Growing up in a notorious motorcycle club sounds like fun, yeah?
It was for a time. I was the Rebel Skull’s cherished and protected little MC princess. My childhood was storybook perfect. In my world, nothing bad existed. My days were spent on the back of my dad’s bike or playing in the woods with my grandfather. Together we battled bad guys and slayed dragons.
And then tragedy struck.
I didn’t know that there were bad guys in real life. Dangerous ones with no moral compass.
Now, their little princess is nothing but angry.
Angry because no one warned me about the harsh reality of life. No one prepared me for this level of pain. And that’s how my secrets begin. I had to find my own way to rid myself of the poison running through my veins.
With each drop of blood that spills, it dulls the ache but never erases the pain.
That is until someone comes along who isn’t afraid of my thorns. No, he presses his flesh right up against them. He thinks he can just walk in and jumpstart my broken heart.
Unfortunately, I’m not the only one he must go through to get to it.
LM Terry is simply a crazy Gemini, writing stories that contain both light and dark elements. Her novels will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. But when you get off, she promises it will be with a happy ever after. LM Terry lives in a small town in the heart of the United States. She is a wife, mother, and book lover. You will find her most days with her head in the clouds.
4.6 stars. Ok. So I’ve been crying for 2 days straight since I decided to read Watercolor Skulls and this book back to back, and I am super dehydrated now. So. Thanks for that. Lol.
No seriously though. I loved this entire trilogy of books. There was so much trauma and abuse and so many dark thoughts in them all,(So check Trigger Warnings before you pick ANY of them up) but the Skulls always had their back and they always got them the help they needed in the end. It was beautiful.
Then the relationship in this. Damn. It was fiery, and a long time coming. The sex was hot, the dirty talk was so on point. The stuff with the sucker made me worry about UTIs a little bit, but I think it was worth the hot factor.
The plot was fucking fantastic. These characters all grow so much and seeing them all defeat their demons was so rewarding.
Oh and the crow. There always seems to be a little something that each of the FMCs have a special connection with and this one had two things but the coolest one was the freaking Crow. I am a sucker for stories where the main characters have special connections to animals and bonus points if it’s a crow or a raven.
I’m so glad I decided to read all three of these books. I need something lighter with a shit ton of laughs, now, but later I’m definitely seeing what else this author has in her back log.
I just found this story to be a little too jumbled for my taste. There was a lot happening and a lot of skipping around and to me it didn't flow very well because of that. I bumped my rating up to 2 Stars because I did think the emotional aspect of the story was done really well. But overall I wanted more from the characters. Especially Elijah and Billie Rose. I felt like their relationship moved at lightning speed and I never really saw a connection between them. Elijah showed up and right away it was like he and Billie Rose were all in together and had this epic love that came out of nowhere.
I cannot tell you how long I've waited for this book. Was it worth it... hell yes it was.
One of the best wordsmiths I've had the pleasure to read. She takes you on an amazing journey. I would suggest reading the first two books in the series first, as there are some bits that will be better understood with the other books' insights.
This couple were meant to be together, though they were pulled apart as kids. A traumatic event brings them back together. Add in expected and unexpected villains, a close knit family and a huge support group of mean ass bikers, and you have the perfect story.
I laughed, cried, felt betrayed and by the end of the story, so loved.
I wasn’t expecting to begin and not put it down until I ended it! Wow. I really enjoyed reading the story of the daughter from the heroine in book one. Jesses book was awesome and now Billie Rose picks up from that. I lot of history so I’m just gonna say you’ll enjoy this book more if you read the other two. I loved the symbolism throughout her link to her grandfather, the love of the club all of the secondary characters. Dirk. I mean who wouldn’t want a dad like him?
Of course the love interest and main man child of he book Elijah who has loved her forever. Even if that started when she was five. That’s the only drag on the story. Yeah, they are lifetime friends. But there is a seven year gap between them. I would have felt a little odd being the mum of a five year old girl who had a twelve year old boy interested in spending time with her ... maybe just me? Anyway, it was a great story and I’ve really enjoyed this authors series.🙃
Wow, what a book! I thoroughly enjoyed Roses and Skulls. The characters are entertaining, strong willed, and intriguing, especially Elijah and Billie Rose. And I loved that we got to catch up with others within the Skulls MC family, who are featured in other standalones (Sugar and Skulls, Watercolor Skulls). The storyline keeps you reading...and guessing. And the pace and ending were on point. If you are looking for MC romance, featuring second chances, a bit of an age gap, strong willed, evolving heroines, sexy dominant alphas, and several triggers to boot, Roses and Skulls will check all of your boxes and more! 5 Stars!
Although I am starting this series in the middle, I have found that I will need to go back and read the beginning of the series. This is a new to me author and can I say that they have caught my attention with Roses and Skulls. Will absolutely have to go back and find more books by this author. I love the background and plot of the story. The characters stand out in the story. While Rosie has some issues growing up she finds that her parents were only trying to protect her and that they will always be there if she falls. Elijah, has always been part of her life but not that recently as they were to grow apart for several years before things can come full circle.
Absolutely amazing!! Just as powerful as all of her other books, also just as sad and overcoming. There are so many twists and turns, I was not expecting any of it. Great read and I can’t wait to read it again. ( you definitely need to read the first two in the series to get the full affect )
Oh this book broke my heart and soul into a million pieces and then slowly put everything back together again. The plot, Character development, mysteries, romance, heartfelt anguish, hotness, spice, and happiness all combine to make such a beautiful story. This isn’t an easy book to read. I cried. I cried a lot because you feel so much for Billie Rose. I don’t recommend reading this book unless you’ve read the first two books in the series. You won’t understand the backstory or characters, especially Billie’s Rose’s mom Jesse, without reading in order - and truly understanding this family and MC family comes from reading the prior two books. This is not a light and fluffy rom com. There are very real triggers and I’d advise any reader to read the warnings before proceeding, however, everything is handled with respect and all topics are written very well. I cannot express what a wonderfully devastating read this book is for a fan of the series.
This entire series has been very different from anything I’ve ever read before . It’s MC but focuses more on the family aspect and very little MC politics or drama. This author doesn’t play around when she causes her characters to feel pain and suffer. She tackles some very graphic and dark issues so check your trigger warnings before reading. If you can read these tragic stories it’s so worth it.
This story is about Jesse and Dirk’s daughter. If you’ve read the first book in the series you know Jesse and Dirk as the main couple. Their past is very dark. They were determined to save Billy Rose from experiencing the same pain but they kept her sheltered to the extreme. That being said these parents were awesome. As overbearing as Dirk was he loved Billy Rose fiercely. I loved him even more in this book then I did in his own. Everything about the way he was to Jesse, his wife , to his their daughter, and even the things he did to Elijah just made me love him more.
Elijah made me squee! He is officially on my book boyfriend list. I loved the way he was dominant and possessive but protective and loving . He knew from the beginning Billy was his and he wouldn’t take no for an answer.
I could talk about this book for days but I don’t want to spoil it all. In case I wasn’t clear I loved everything about this story. It was amazing . I would like a touch of MC in the story but the amazing storylines really had me so mesmerized I didn’t notice it was missing until I got to the end. The characters , the family togetherness , the tragedy and the unpredictable twist were so amazing. It was all the only perfect mix . This is truly one my favorite reads of the year . It’s a must read!
Good lordy! My heart was not prepared! This is the story of Billie Rose, Jesse and Dirk's daughter from book one. So many things from the past coming back to haunt and torment as new truths are uncovered. I laughed, I cried, and I went away with a huge smile on my face. I feel like I should be pacing myself on these - they're definitely not light reading - but I can't seem to make myself stop, lol. Fantastic storyline and characters that grip you tight. Can't wait to start the next one!
Exceptional read!! Loving this series so hard right now I devoured it. I wish author's could write faster. I know she's working on book 4 and I can't wait to read it. Fair warning these books contain trigger warnings.... but if you like dark books then this is for you! I absolutely love them. This book is Billie Rose's story. The daughter of Dirk and Jesse and if you haven't read Sugar and Skulls and Watercolor Skulls I highly recommend in doing so first. Loved the storyline, the characters and how everything unraveled in this book. And Elijah I want one. A love and fierceness that started out so young, has nowhere to go but all the way. Love how this one unfolded. And seriously love this author's style. So I would recommend it. I would also give it more stars if possible. Bring on the second generation I'm ready to one-click it. thanks jamie nibarger ellis
Tissues I’m running out at my house after I have read this series. I am rung out! Also staying up half the night to read them all cause I can’t put them down doesn’t help!
2.5 Interconnected standalone, that's ok as a stand alone. (Only one I've read)
It changes POV from Billie Rose to Elijah to Dirk and Jesse(her parents)in parts. Maybe a couple others, I don't remember. It didn't really add anything? It didn't give the secondary characters more depth or provide more perspective/info. It was just there. Kind of like the random ass flashbacks
I do think it's creepy that the romance between Elijah and Billie Rose is set from when she was 5 and he was 12. The whole thing is that her mom saw how 5 year old Billie looked/followed Elijah when they visited- so Billie's parents kept them apart. That's extreme. 5 year old with a crush, overreacting parents ok??
BUT
Elijah somewhere between 12 and 23 realizes he loved her, without seeing or speaking to her again. Literally at 23 he sees pictures of her from the car accident- she's 16 and he "knows"
Not to bring twilight into it, but it's Jacob imprinting on an infant vibes.
Especially when this fucker says shit like 5 year old Billie always carried around a baby doll, so he knows she's meant to be a mother. SORRY WHAT
BECAUSE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THEM (and everything they knew about each other at that point) IS FROM WHEN SHE WAS 0-5 AND HE WAS 7-12.
If that's not enough to give you the ick.
I ignored it while I was reading because there was at least SOME effort to establish new bonds between Billie at nearly 20, and him at unacknowledged 27.
Other than that, the whole drama is Billie and her grandpa were hit by a car when she was 16. Her grandpa died, she saw who(on purpose) did it- never told anyone. And stopped talking and starts self harming/cutting herself for 3 years. Her family sells Grandpa's bar unintentionally to Draven, the guy that killed him thats also from a rival MC.(Because that makes TONS of sense) Elijah comes to claim his woman because she hasn't spoken in 3 years, and her mom thinks it's time.
Weird almost triangle between them, while Billie plots to kill Draven. Elijah gets her to talk. She tells her family/their MC what happened, they join the plot. Shit happens. SPOILERS AHEAD
She's drugged/kidnapped and assualted as some leftover vengeance from her mom's book by her best friend(who kills herself) and a semi not rando from the moms book. Billie escapes Draven's besotted clutches, who wasn't part of the kidnapping and drugging- but did the raping- also telling her the now dead bestie fucked with her birth control so she's probably pregnant now. She makes it back to her family. Violence ensues. She decides that because she's also slept with Elijah she doesn't want to take plan b. Oh. Draven is related to her
She decides she needs to get real help for her self harming, goes to a 90 day program. Meets the heroine for the next/future book, who is 16, abused, and ends up being adopted by Billie's aunt and uncle.
Billie IS pregnant, her and Elijah agree that neither want a paternity test. But because it's possibly an incest baby, they'll get it tested and send the results to someone else. Which doesn't super make sense because what's the point- so her uncle can hold his breath until the kid has health issues???
Any way. Epilogue 5 years later, it was a little girl(who I'd just like to point out is near the same age as Billie was for their "soul mate" connection. Again gross.)They also had a son, and Billie is pregnant again. And the Uncle passes on the DNA results, because Elijah has proven himself. Turns out it's not a rape/incest baby. Which is probably the sort of news that DIDNT NEED TO BE WITHHELD FOR 5 YEARS. Sure, leave a survivor of sexual assault wondering if her daughter is a little too biologically related to her.
Overall the rape and pregnancy were incredibly unnecessary. It felt like a "ooooh how can I make this more traumatic" than part of a plot. But I'd toss the rando POVs and flashbacks in that same trash can.
Having heard her mom's trauma rehashed multiple times from different but similar povs I have 0 desire to go back and read what I'm sure is described super graphically.
Oh it's on KindleUnlimited.
Ok went back and read a review for the second book, and it sounds literally the same. Rape. Suicide. Pregnancy. I guess LM Terry thinks it's a winning combination
Loved it. Loved these two together. Lots of drama as always. Have a few questions that won't get answered. Did he stay faithful while waiting for her to grow up. Just wondering. Also in every book with the bad guys. Why do they wait to get there revenge. And there women take care of it first. Don't get me wrong these men are alphas for sure. Also, writing off Jesse's dad. Why???? One more question, why the big jump to the next generation. I wanted more like junkyard man's story, etc. I wanted to read these kids growing up with the 1st generation. Please don't kill off Dirk or Dan or Jesse soon. That would suck.
This book was disappointing on so many levels, I'm not even sure where to start. 1. This was a SLUG of a read. I really had to work at this one, and I read every word up until about the 60% mark, and then I started to skim just to make sure I understood what happened in case I read the next one. Billie Rose just didn't do it for me. 2. I was on a HIGH after Watercolor Skulls. I absolutely loved that book, so much so, that I bought the paperback, and I don't buy actual books because I live in an RV, and I don't have room, but I had to have that book. I assumed the next book would be JD's story. Instead I ended up reading about a bratty teenager with a chip on her shoulder who stayed nineteen throughout the story. I was hoping that it would be a bit like Jesse's story where she would age. (A caveat, I'm older so reading about a teenager's sex life isn't exactly my cup of tea.) There were times when she breaks the fourth wall, which made it even ickier because she can't even tell us that he's grabbing his dick, she just says, "you know," or whatever it was, I can't remember exactly because I had to skip over it. I felt like a pervert for knowing that about her. And the lollypop thing? Girl you're gonna need to be prepared to see a doctor..... 3. Billie Rose wasn't an interesting character to me. After taking the journey with Jesse and Dirk, and Lily and Dan, it was hard to sympathize with her when she was so rude and awful to them. I can understand a lot of it, but the whole thing with blaming her dad and being a dick to her mom, and always running away from everyone (a pet peeve I had with Lily as well, LM Terry likes to send the men on the hunt after runaway women...), and refusing to speak, came across as a pouty, sullen obnoxious child pretending to be an adult. Then we get this shift where she decides that she is going to actually be an adult, and I just couldn't get behind it. Whenever she was referred to as the "MC Princess" I had to roll my eyes, it was super gaggy. (Again, my opinion.) 4. Elijah was absolutely the most boring character so far. In some ways, he's like the stereotypical female personality that is just part of the story to propel the MMC to be able to progress. His entire role in the story was to be a crux for BR. In the beginning of the book, Dirk says he wants a mole at the bar, so my impression was that Elijah would be secretly working there for the Skulls, but then there's this big show about how he's her bf and they both want to work there with Draven. Obviously, once you realize (like it's hard) Draven's motivations, there's no way that Draven would want Elijah there, but I guess maybe Draven figured out that Elijah had about as much spirit as wet cardboard box and he didn't have anything to worry about. It's so strange to me bc I've seen so many reviews with readers gushing over Elijah, but after Dirk and Dan I just found him to be as appealing as an unsalted saltine. 5. I get that we write romance novels because this is how we wish men were, but there are times when these men are so over the top that it's almost impossible not to groan out loud. Example: When Elijah tells her to straighten her crown I had to put my Kindle down and walk away. Vomit. Also, we have Jesse, Lily, and Rachel in this story, but it's always the men who are coming to comfort or demand answers. The amount of times that Raffe or Dan pulls her onto their laps is odd. It's almost like RH but with family members, and I noticed it in the other books, but at least Jesse and Lily in their stories weren't being treated as children, and there was a lot of touching and hugging, but they weren't sitting in laps. The unending patience, and the big declarations of love, as much as I want those traits in my MMCs, started to kind of fall flat after BR just cannot seem to get her shit together. 6. I was so close to DNFing during the scene at the bar or wherever they were when the girl hits on Elijah in front of BR and so she punches her?? Eww. There was another book by one of my very favorite authors who had a similar scene in one of her books, and it was an instant DNF. That trope for me is such a turnoff. In Watercolor Skulls, when a couple of cute girls are making eyes at Dan, Lily kisses him and makes plans with him. She doesn't turn around and deliver a beatdown while the rest of the club watches their "princess" show that girl who Elijah belongs to. It just made my skin crawl. 7. I HATE pregnancy tropes. (Totally a personal opinion.) I'd say it ruined the book for me, but I have to be honest, I knew in the first few chapters I was going to struggle. Why did I give it 3 stars? 1. I love Dan. Is he a bit unrealistic? Yes. But I want that. I want a Dan in my life, and I loved that he tried so hard to help her. 2. The wind chime thing was so beautiful. Sometimes the way LM Terry writes can be a bit of a turnoff, but the visual and metaphorical choices she makes are stunning. I love the tattoos and the art, and the dragonfly, and here it's the whispers of Heaven. Losing Bill was so hard, but I love the idea that he's still watching out for everyone in some way. 3. This story would have made a hugely different impact on me had either Billie Rose been older and less of an obnoxious brat teenager, or had a different FMC altogether. There was a lot of potential here. I understand the cutting and the trauma, partly because I've been through some of that myself, and partly because I understand that being a teenager / young adult is a really scary time and LM Terry probably got most of it right. That doesn't mean it was fun to read. I just looked at the next two books in the series and I think I'll probably take a break for now. I like Jackson, but I'm not dying to know what happens to him. And the book after that has an MMC named Petey. So yeah, I think I might be too old... It's ok, because (yeah I'm going to say it again) Watercolor Skulls gave me the most incredible book boyfriend, some of the most beautiful imagery I've ever read, and it opened my eyes in so many ways to the life that I'm living verses the one I want. So thank you LM Terry for that.

This was one of those late night, saw a blurb that looked interesting proceeded to read the whole thing kind of reads. Like, had I not blasted through the entire book last night I would not have picked it back up again.
It's a hot mess kind of book, and there were some parts of it that I absolutely loved, and you know what? It made me cry several different times. (I was already feeling emotional, so it wasn't a hard thing to do) and I like when a book makes me cry, and I've been told recently that the occasional cry is good for you. But other parts I didn't much care for.
One thing I did NOT appreciate was how... aggressively the men handled the women. Like, far too often. But it's a dark romance, soooo. Definitely check out the trigger warnings before you go into this one.
Roses and Skulls is book 3 in the Rebel Skulls MC series by L. M. Terry and boy is it going to take you on a rollercoaster ride. We’re thrust straight into the story when we meet Billie Rose who has been through a traumatic event which has left her broker. Refusing to use her voice and angry at her family, she wants to make someone pay for the death of her beloved grandfather, she knows the only way that she is going to become stronger is to find the one who hurt him and avenge his death….little does she know that it is going to open a can of worms and secrets are going to spill forth that could change everything.
This story was unbelievably emotional at times as Billie Rose struggles with the aftermath of her grandfather’s death and surviving her own ordeals. The lengths that she goes to to stay sane at times are heart wrenching and even though she has the support of her family….at times, she just wants to do it alone.
I enjoyed at the beginning of the book that you didn’t know who was going to be her love interest and I have to say that Elijah was an intriguing character, alpha male, but soft when he needed to be. Nothing about Billie Rose and what she went through scared him and he just kept being there as her protector and strength when she needed him to. I also liked the side story about the crows too, it was a very interesting perspective.
Overall, this was a great story with some triggers that other readers might find difficult. But overall, the story is about overcoming what life throws at you, as well as dealing with our pain in our own way without judgement. There’s definitely a lot of twists in this story and reading the previous books would help with who the characters are, but it certainly doesn’t detract from the story if you don’t know who everybody is. Definitely not a story for the faint of heart!
“You have nothing to be sorry for Rosie. Besides I would take a thousand punches from him to be with you”
First of all DIRK and DAN ❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍 my absolute favorites and this book just proves why ! Second omg what a sexy man Elijah is 🌶️🥵🌶️🥵🌶️ The VERY first time he appears and have his little fun with the sucker ! OMGGGG ! Hot Hot Hot ! Again another banger for me in this series. I loved that this book is very centered in the family and my favorite characters from previous books are heavily part of this book. I missed more of Jess pov cause she IS the BADDEST BITCH OF THEM AL, love her. Billie Rose is also cool but she was in a bad place. I was super sad with what happened in the beginning and I didn’t like it, but it wouldn’t be a story without it so I get it. The story is like the other books very dark and with heavy topics, read TW cause all the books in this series deal with sexual assault, violence and suicide. I love Billie Rose and Elijah love story and I love how ballsy, brave and sexy he is. I got emotional in many parts of this book, very full circle story and Jess got to show he bad bitch side once again…. Loved the mother and daughter “revenge”. Let’s now talk about Daddy Dirk 🔥🔥🔥🔥 what a perfect possessive and protective father he is ! Amazing. The love he has for his daughter is WOWWWWW ! And my other absolute favorite guy in this series is obviously Big Dan and HE IS AGAIN amazing in this book. I just am in love with all the books in this series, can wait to read Jackson story in the next one.
“I will always be your shadow Rosie. And not because the club elders tell me I have to be. I will always stand behind you, trapped in your shade.I welcome it. It’s where the parts of you no one else can reside.I love all of you. Every single piece”
So many Motorcycle Club stories focus on the illegal side of things like drugs and violence, murder and criminal ways and yes that takes part in this book but the main focus of the Rebel Skulls isn’t any of those things it’s family and LM Terry portrays that so well. Even when things are tough between family members the love and support still shines through.
This book had me going through all the emotions and I’m not afraid to admit I even cried a little bit. It was so well written. Based over a decade after the last book the kids are all grown up now and it’s about them and this book focusses on Billie Rose.
Billie Rose has been sheltered from all the bad in a hope to protect her from the evil things Jesse went through in her past. However life has a different plan and throws Jesses past and more at Billie Rose making her question her existence and the life that she knew.
Featuring loss of loved ones, betrayal, self harm, kidnapping, murder, rape and revenge this book is a whole journey of self discovery, growing strong, falling in love and rebuilding life instead of letting the bad take control.
Some beautiful relationships were explored in this book and there were twists and turns throughout the story that made me just want to keep on reading. LM Terry is amazing at creating characters who you just want to know more about and I’d love to see even more books added to the series.
Really enjoyed the first book in this series. I skipped ahead to this book because I really loved Jesse and Dirk and was entrigued to see there was a book about their daughter. I really wish I loved Rose as much as I loved Jessie but honestly I found her a bit annoying.
She cried a lot. Wallowed in self pity a lot. Was a brat to her parents a lot. I really just wanted to kick her butt most of the time. Her mother and father are such strong badass characters that assumed she would take after them. However she can't even defend herself and seems very naive 🙄. Everything was a big show of how she hates herself and blames herself and her parents for her trauma. She's already decided, at the wizened old age of 18, that she is done with life and not interested in love or anything to do with joy. I was especially annoyed that she doesn't seem to know ASL. Really it's super easy to learn and she and her family would have picked it up quickly. Using text-to-talk was just humiliating and silly .
Elijah is a fun guy but I had a hard time figuring out WHAT he saw in Rose other than their childhood history. Sure the lolly scene was spicy (especially for her vagina which will probably be itching like mad later) but he seems to have decided he is in love with her before he even knows a thing about her.
The story was good. But not what I expected from this series.

I can NOT get enough of this biker series! LM Terry never fails to deliver a biker series with all the drama, suspense, spice, angst, and romance we fantasize about 😉
This book was a very interesting POV take. I had some why choose vibes at the start of reading and even had a struggle on who my MMC was going to be! The character build and story was perfect to keep you hooked and trying to out the pieces together. In this story you follow Billie Rose, who is the MC Princess. Her dad being the Prez leaves her in a position of power but also shelter and hidden from the world.
You mostly read this book in her POV and you put the pieces together as she does. There are some big triggers please read the warnings before reading. Billie Rose has her struggles and has to learn to over come them. Getting the occasional chapter in other important male figures in her life help you see what she is going through and her struggles to find her place in the world.
Who does her heart belong to? The dark mysterious dangerous biker from out of town who is trying to make things right? Or the boy she grew up with who is no longer a boy and plays by his own rules? OR will Billie Rose find herself and choose herself this time?
Read this book you won’t regret it! And the spice is on point! 🔥🔥🔥 plenty of angst and build up tension to set the house on fire!
I adore LM Terry and the stories she writes. I can’t get enough of them. Roses and Skulls is no different. There are trigger warnings so please be aware of them. We are finally getting Billie Rose’s story and Terry did not disappoint! This story wrung all the emotions out of me. I cried and laughed and cried some more. It was such a beautiful story that Terry created for us. Getting to see Jesse and Dirk as the overprotective parents we all knew they would be was absolute gold! Loved the Daddy Dirk name! Bill broke my heart and I’m not sure it is healed yet. Might need to go get a windchime just to see if it will help. Elijah was everything Billie needed and more. Fair warning: Terry has a unique ability to rap realism into her stories and make you feel things that are sometimes uncomfortable. But, the way she handles the aftermath is what I find comforting. She doesn’t make it all go away just because a hot guy falls in love with the female character. Terry actually promotes self-healing and outside help in her books. There are some things that are so consuming that you need to get help even if you don’t want to. Terry doesn’t sugarcoat these things and writes them in ways that are true. I cannot recommend this author or her books enough!
Trigger warning Car wreck Death of beloved character Cutting SA Dubious consent Spitting Kidnapping Forced drug use R ape Suicide by gun
Billie Rose is growing up. Her parents, Jesse and Dirk, are way beyond helicopter parents. Bill tries, but everyone just shelters her so much. Then, the car wreck happens, and Bill is no more. For more than 2 years, she goes without speaking to anyone. Everyone walks on eggshells around her, not wanting to upset her; no one is really being honest with her. She has only one way to release the pressure inside, and that's through blood. One day, she comes face to face with the man who killed Bill. The man her best friend is dating and living with. Her problems don't stop there. Things are getting out of hand, quickly. All her secrets are coming out, biting her in the butt. Just when they think everything is worked out, someone crawls out of the beyond to blow it all up.
Don't get attached to characters. The spitting in her mouth - gag. I do not like that. I am glad she got in-patient help and the book is honest about coping measures and fear.
We jump forward a few years from the last book and are now following the FMC Billie-Rose who is Jesse’s and Dirk’s daughter from Book 1. She is the protected MC Princess but one night when she’s 16 is the first time she feels like she’s been let down from all their promises to protect her. Her body and heart was broken and no one saved her. She’s angry and 3 years later is not like the girl she remembers.
Call it an intervention but when things start getting out of control her mother steps in, in the form of MMC Elijah, they have been friends since they were kids. His dad is her mother’s best friend. She saw something in them when they were children and kept them apart, now she knows he’s the only one who can get through to her.
This book was heavy on triggers so check those, it’s a journey, this book and story is about grief and how it can manifest itself in so many ways and it’s never a straight road. It’s learning how to survive when that feels like the last thing you can do.
I love all these books, I love the jump to the ‘next generation’ I don’t think I will ever tire of reading about the Rebel Skulls.
