Mia

I've been trying to get that TA job ever since my senior year at college. I'm in the last semester of my Master's degree and finally got the job. The only problem is our new professor is a sexy, middle-aged, brilliant writer and an even better teacher.

He runs the English department, and now he's my boss, my professor, and the center of every last one of my fantasies. There's no way I should want him this much, but it's those dang glasses, and that smile, and that little dimple in his chin.

I was swooning the moment I met Professor Harlo, but the moment he opened his mouth, I fell in love.

Owen

This is the last thing I wanted. I'm fresh off a divorce, and with two kids and two demanding careers, I don't have the time or energy for this.

Except, this girl sticks inside my brain like ABC gum, and I can't shake her. It doesn't help that we're crammed in my office grading papers several days a week for hours at a time. The whole innocent thing she has going on kept me away, but she's a writer, too, and I made the mistake of reading her half-finished romance book.

Unfortunately for me, the things I love about this girl are her mind and spirit, and those are the two things I can't say no to.

L.L. Ash is a Washington-born writer who has traveled and lived across the western coast of the US. She lives in Utah with her husband and 3 kids, all of which are a handful!

Ash has been writing fiction since she was 11 years old, and finished her first full-length romance novella at 12. While her writing has improved since then, her love for literature has not changed. Oftentimes you can find Ash reading an indie romance or enjoying a historical fiction. She has been an artist for decades but found her true love and passion in romances.

But Ash is not content to write a romance with untried characters or predictable ‘happily ever afters’. Ash strives to create honest stories revolving around struggling heroins and bruised heroes, both trying to find happiness and acceptance, just like we in real life do. She writes about real struggles and real hardships, often giving the characters a tarnished facade. But through the constant loving and hating of the characters, you will fall in love with them as they grow and change and evolve through the stories.

As Ash always says, it’s all about real romance for real life.

Well, this was just stinking adorable! Low angst, no 3rd act break up. Sexy and fun. The characters were well fleshed out and had great chemistry.

Student/Professor age gap. She's 23 and he's 42. He's a divorced dad and he's a Sapiofile, so he falls for her brains. 🥰

It was just slightly kinky and they explore toys and anal so that was fun too!

Also, a relatively healthy relationship with the ex-wife. And we love to see that!

I am a sucker for forbidden, age gap romances. There's always extra points given to certain tropes, especially student/professor ones. Teach Me by L. L. Ash fit all of the above, so I was extremely excited to read an advanced copy.

Mia is a graduate English major. She's always wanted to TA for her English professor, but he retired without ever taking her on as an assistant. Luckily, Mia gets the TA position for his replacement: Professor Harlo. Professor Harlo, also known as Owen, is gruff and rough around the edges upon their first meeting. While there was something between the two, I didn't really feel the build up or tension initially. Mia becomes infatuated with Own from the beginning. He's brilliant, broody, and sexy.

One evening, Owen offers to take Mia to dinner after they finish grading essays. An undetermined amount of time has passed of Mia being his TA. I'm going to guess a couple of weeks, but I'm truly not sure. I didn't get the vibe that Owen felt anything toward her while she graded papers with him. However, the dinner is told through Owen's POV and he's especially flirty.

Most age gap romances I've read always have that "I'm too old for you, we shouldn't do this" dialogue. It's usually the MMC who is hesitant to act on his desires because of the age difference. It's no different in Teach Me. Owen is a sapiophile and is ridiculously attracted to Mia and her intelligence. It doesn't take long before they give into each other, but this is where I struggled with the story. After sleeping together for the first time shortly after the dinner, Owen says he can't do this with Mia. Obviously, she doesn't like that at all and fights for what she wants: him. He gives in; they say they'll give it a try and see where things go. This is all to be expected. EXCEPT, not a few days later, she decides she wants more than their secret relationship (because they obviously can't come out with her being his TA) and says they need to break up. Mia is a naive 23-year-old and boy, does it show. She tells Owen she loves him, asks to stay the night, then sneaks out the next morning. She leaves a note saying she's sorry for bugging him. At this point, they've only been together for a week. What in the world? It felt like it came out of nowhere, considering she pushed him to give their relationship a try 5 days prior.

One of the points in the story is Mia's best friend and roomate, Clea. Initially, Clea was a side character I could get behind. She seemed funny and was the extrovert to Mia's introvert. Their relationship drifts apart when Mia confides in her BFF. I felt that Clea didn't quite live up to her purpose. She caused trouble at the end, but it was anticlimactic.

I enjoyed Him by L. L. Ash, but I was a little disappointed by Teach Me. I felt the dialogue was juvenile, especially when it came to Owen and his ex-wife. They are both in their 40's, but they sound like they're college students. This book had some great potential, but it wasn't for me.

Read 2: I decided to give this a reread because it had just been so long and I was in the mood for a student/teacher read. I forgot this isn’t as heavy with the genre as I like. Mia is a graduate student and his TA. It doesn’t really satisfy that student/teacher itch. I’ve moved my star rating to a four. The story just didn’t hit for me as well this time. It’s by no means a bad book but I think part of my problem is they just get together too early on. I also think Mia does some things in the beginning that would be out of character for her and someone from her background so it kind of takes me out of it.

This book has the unfortunate problem of being compared to “Him” by the same author and which stands as one of favorite books. It’s hard to live up too.

4.5 rounded up to 5. A great read.

I picked up this book because Him. by l.l. Ash is one of my all time favorites. While I really enjoyed this book it didn’t replace Him. in my heart.

Some of the things I loved in this book and some I would tweak a little. Like I would like there to be a slower burn before they got together and not have almost the entirety of the book having them just trying to make their relationship work.

But I really liked both the MCs. I was a bit weary of Owen at first but he totally grew on me.

I highly recommend this if you’re a fan of forbidden age gap romances.

I liked it....but didn't love it. I didn't like all the religious stuff honestly. It was taboo enough based on the age gap and student teacher trope. Adding the hard core religious angle was over kill. Plus Mia was slightly too wishy washy considering she is the one that pushed for the relationship in the first place.

I love age gap and a forbidden romance but this was just lacking. There were spelling errors. And all of a sudden Mia was from a super religious family. I had to power through but the book fell flat.

The beginning was so strong! I was excited about every single page up to 50% mark.
At the beginning conversations had an amazing flow. I loved the banter between our main characters! Although I wish more time would pass before they got together.

And then..
1. Family of our main girl. Oh god.
2. Christianity. Her family is one of *those* families. And it pissed me off.
- I found this element of the story annoying, brining too much unwanted drama. I really thought it was brought in so Owen could say that he will help her in her faith and shit.
3. Our main character. God… She pushes him to give in to their attraction. He finally does, putting his career and life on the line. 2 days later she’s like “I can’t do it”. She knows he can’t come to her dorm. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS and she still gets upset about it.
4. The thanksgiving scene. No. Just - no.
5. Somehow I felt their love to be too quick. They fell in love within seconds.
6. Her “bestie”…. Ugh

In conclusion - Owen is too good for her. Too good!
Owen is a great character. Flirty, confident, sarcastic, smart, easy going. And she’s there…

The sad thing is it started out as a instant 5 star read and then it just kept going downhill….

This book was adorable! I loved their story. I loved how there was no third act break up, because that sometimes really annoys me, even though I understand its purpose. I’m not really into age gaps, so I would have liked him to be a bit younger, but it didn’t stop me being invested

Too much purity culture

Great story if you can get past the purity culture aspect of it. Owen and Mia were perfect for each other. I couldn't believe Owen's mother was put into a cab and sent home on Thanksgiving when she laid into Mia's family for shaming her after Mia's grandmother slapped him. She's 23 years old but her family acts like it's their right and business to police her v card. They were horrible and more concerned about her marrying the man that took it than anything else about him.

4 Worth It Just to Feel Love Stars ⭐

This is the first age gap, student/ teacher romance I've read that felt romantic and like our hero wasn't robbing the cradle. Instead our heroine Mia was mature and following her heart and not her hormones whilst Owen was totally smitten.

From the very first meeting, you know the arrangement will work. An English Professor hiring a TA passionate about literacy and desperate to secure the role. Owen and Mia are perfect colleagues, teaching each other to be happy over the simplest of things.

“You ok there?” he asked, the accent tinging his words coming out stronger as he teased me. “You look a mite bit flustered.”

“Oh, shut it,” I mumbled, which made the man laugh.

“Don’t be embarrassed, darling. Everyone fucks in this world. It’s only human.”

I grumped. Everyone might, except me. Damn my geeky, introverted self.

These two are wonderful. They may have bonded over their minds but it wasn't surprising as their respect and affection shifted into something intimate. However it was the depth of the actual story that elevated this.

Owen is in his 40s, divorced with two kids and insecure about lusting over a much younger women. While Mia who's in her 20s is a well adjusted girl with a healthy dose of faith and self respect. You immediately know this hookup is so much more.

“This happened too fast, Mia. A few weeks isn’t worth risking an entire career for.”

All the air in my lungs whooshed out as agony raced through me.

“But this,” he added, sparking a flame of hope. “This feeling in my chest is worth it. It’s worth…everything.”

I will say the first half of Teach Me was awesome while the second half was spent wading through many emotions and self doubts. My first book by this author and I was impressed with the quality of the writing and plot, and of course the sexy times!! BTW, how hot is the cover??

There were funny moments in this book, but it was dramatic and unrealistic.

Mia and Owen meet, and it felt like there was insta-love. Supposedly they got to know each other through their talks, but I didn’t see it. Also, their relationship was supposed to be forbidden, but it never felt like that as they never even attempt to stop themselves, and instead it’s casually mentioned a few times that they can’t be together since he’s a professor and she’s a student.

There’s a point in this book when Owen decides that their age gap (around 20 years) is too much, but as soon as he says something, Mia immediately stops him. Then not even a few pages later, Mia is the one having a meltdown and goes to his house to break up with him. That really annoyed me as it made no sense.

There were some side characters, but I thought that they could have been shown more. I liked Paula (Owen’s ex-wife), and the scenes with Mia’s family were funny, but Mia’s friend was predictable.

This book was fine, but a lot of the main characters’ actions were unrealistic and dramatic, so I’m not too interested in reading other books by this author.

Age gap romances tend to not be my thing, but I enjoyed this because it was real. Their struggles with their romance and the implications of it, how it would affect their families etc, it just had a level of depth to it. I also really appreciated the differing beliefs between the two. Again, just a relatable aspect to the book. The spice was good and novel. Not the same old scenes you see time and again.
Given the two main characters were writers, the author really broke down the art of writing. While telling a story, she also shared what it is like to imagine, create and produce literature.
It was really just a good book overall without the need to consider the genre, sub-genre and so forth. If you're looking for plot twists and turns, this isn't for you. However, if you are just wanting an easy read to pass a day, this is for you.

Mia is a graduate student her major is English. She's always wanted to be a teacher assistant for her English professor, but he retired and never told her. Luckily, Mia gets the teacher assistant position for his replacement. Professor Harlo, is weird during their first meeting, he agrees to hire her if she gets the coffee out of his shirt. Mia becomes infatuated with Owen from the beginning. He's brilliant, broody, and sexy and she is drawn to him. We really don’t see that Owen is attracted to her until they go out to dinner one night after marking papers. I love a taboo romance because there is always angst. Things you can’t do or shouldn’t but you desperately want to. This is the second book in the Sophisticated Seduction Series. I must admit I have the first book but never read it, but I plan on going back now and read it. A truly enjoyable book.

Sin acabar... Yo....

Ahí me perdió...

This author has jumped to #1 in my adult reading experience. Not only did she consistantly bring the heat, but also brought in the faith of an MC and the family in a positive light. Mia's upbringing played an important part in decisions, yet still gave her the choice to follow her heart.
Mia desperately needed to get the TA position to the new English professor and while Owen tried to keep his thoughts to himself, their intellectual connection couldn't be ignored.
L.L. Ash had me debating with myself, my upbringing being very similar, with wrong decisions taken and having to live with consequences. I think Mia made the right choice.

This book was garbage. I wanted to dnf so badly but I refuse to have too many of those in a year so I kept going.

The concept was there but out of nowhere I felt like I was being preached to about chastity and sin. The FMC did not act like a 23yr old at all, also why was a masters student living with an undergrad student in student housing? The constant back and forth from her was annoying and I really skipped pages of writing to just get to the point.
There were so many random unnecessary colloquialisms that popped up too. None of it made sense as to why when there was a perfect sentence or perfect paragraph that did not sound like a 13yr old wrote it.

Grammatically and spelling wise, just needs a double glance over before publishing. Whoever edited this book just didn’t.

Mia is a graduate student and had wanted to be a teaching assistant to her favorite professor, but he retired before she got the chance. Now she is the teaching assistant to his replacement Professor Harlo. Sparks fly between them. Things heat up between them one night after they are done grading papers. Will they get into trouble for being together? Can they find a way to be together?

This is a great story that will draw you in from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

I enjoyed the start quite a lot, it's a trooe I like and the characters were a quirky enough to make it different but it started to lose me at the double date with the ex. The fight didn't seem to gel with the story and the hanging out at make out point after was just weird. But they fully lost me when she told her parents, her father was very harsh and she just kind of accepted that and forgave him. And Thanksgiving was ridiculous. Her family said hurtful things and acted really inappropriately but the reader is meant to see them as the nice family?! I didn't get it.
Also I felt the storyline with the BFF was kind of unresolved or didn’t go where it could of.
So, kinda disappointing.

"𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭. 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠"

Should I go with the best part of the book? Owen Harlo. (My perfect man if you ask me).

DNF @ 80%

Religion ruined it.

Mia gave up her virginity to her professor, sticking to her stance with her family that it was her choice then to turn around and give advice to her brother’s girlfriend about waiting… how it’s not worth it?

Mia telling her family and agreeing to their marriage terms without even speaking to owen?

Mia being with her family, she turns her confidence self into an unlikable and parent pleaser child. Not the mature adult Owen knows and loves. Proving that she is not the type of woman Owen would genuinely love.

It was an okay read until Owen went to meet her family and it just became word vomit… and unrealistic.

I enjoyed this book, there were some moments that made you smile, others that made you giggle and others that frustrated you. Mia and Owen were just too cute. Paula and Patrick were great characters. There were a few spelling errors such as holt for halt and immerged for emerged. But, overall this was a pretty good read. Not a book that would inspire you to read it again, however, definitely worth a read. Nowhere near as good as Him or Boy Frenemy, these I would absolutely read more than once.

Freaking love an age gap

I am a total sucker for age gap romances!
For those readers that have issue with teen year characters, the ages are 23/42.
She's a masters student in college. He's the divorced, father of two English professor she TA's for.
It's an insta love story that is so sweet and next to no angst.
My only ick is the timeline. Their romance went from 0 to 100 in 3 months. My preference would be a year, but that's just me.
Other than that it was an extremely enjoyable fun and easy read.

Brilliant and well written professor/student story. This book had me gripped from the start and I couldn’t put it down. I loved how Owen was with Mia, this gentle, loving giant who just wanted the same things as she did but was worried about the age gap. Mia soon put an end to that worry and their relationship just blossomed. I knew it was going too well and just waiting for something to go wrong, but love conquers all and Mia and Owen got the HEA they deserved. Definitely worth a read.

God!

I loved, just freaking loved this book. Two of my favorite tropes together- age-gape and professor/student- it couldn’t get better than that. The level play of spicy senses and plot was perfect. The plot was realistic with the challenges the MCs had to overcome, and the drama added by the college friend was perfect.

Good book

This was one of the better age gap books I have read. This author writes a well balanced book, the story and the characters draw you in. Mia and Owen had some great laugh out loud moments and some great steam! I would recommend this book as well.

Part of me wanted to continue reading, but the other part was just like no. I DNF’d at 30%. The book progressed surprisingly quickly, and I wasn’t that interested in the characters. I appreciate what the author was trying to do with the literature aspect of it, but I just wasn’t interested enough.

pretty good

it's sweet and had all the age-gap feels I'm liking at the moment hence the four stars

got a bit preachy with religion every now and then from FMC and family but (I was listening on audio book so just skipped forward) that may interest, or at least not bother, some
