We’re battling to be on top—in more ways than one.
Cristian Rivera and I have spent years locked in a contest to be the highest-ranked racing driver in the world. When he forced me off a track seconds from victory, it was the last straw: I confronted him in his hotel room, intending to teach him a lesson with my fists.
Instead, he kissed me, and now everything is tumbling out of control.
I thought I was straight. Now I’m questioning. And I can’t seem to stay away from him.
Hooking up with Cristian is a terrible idea for so many reasons.
Our rivalry fuels sales, and if what we’re doing gets out, we and our teams could lose millions in sponsorship money. We could even lose our jobs.
I’m the Ice Man, always calm and controlled, in line to the Swedish throne. Dating a fiery Spanish driver is the last thing the aristocracy would want me to do.
Most importantly, I can’t fall in love. Open-wheel racing puts our lives at risk every time those engines roar. I can’t afford to get attached to another driver. I couldn’t bear it if someone I love got hurt—or worse.
Despite all that, when Cristian crashes, the whole world sees me race to his side.
Will our feelings for each other be stronger than the forces dragging us apart?
Off Track is a contemporary MM sports romance about race-car drivers. It features Cristian Rivera, Spanish racing royalty, and Jasper Nord, literal Swedish royalty. These guys secretly rendezvous in Swiss ski resorts, Singaporean gardens, and yachts off Monaco. Off Track is the first book in the Faster series of stand-alones, which also features books from Victoria Denault and Regina Kyle.
Leslie McAdam is a California girl who loves romance and well-defined abs. She lives in a drafty old farmhouse on a small orange tree farm in Southern California with her husband and two small children. Leslie's first published book, The Sun and the Moon, won a 2015 Watty, which is the world's largest online writing competition. She's gone on to receive additional literary awards and has been featured in multiple publications, including Cosmopolitan.com. Her books have been Top 100 Bestsellers on both Amazon and Apple Books. Leslie is employed by day but spends her nights writing about the men of your fantasies.
This wasn’t…bad? Not good either but the guys were kind of adorable. I didn’t remember this author but then I checked and it all made sense. I’ve read another by her and that book had exactly the same problem as this one and that is that this author tends to water down her characters. In her book Ambiguous she made the rock star to be a kitten. She made him the boy next door boring and nicer than Hannah Montana when he was supposed to be this rebel, fashion-forward-no labels kind of guy, best rockstar in the world . I mean rock star , that is self explanatory, no? Going back to the book at hand, we are told these guys are the best race drivers in the world. They’re rich, they’re young and they’re all “macho” etc. And yet, we have AGAIN two “the boy next door” characters. They’re good boys, they’re polite and well behaved, and sweet and they don’t hurt a fly. They’re civil to each other even when they’re enemies and hate each other. And I get it, they’re adorbs and sweet but damn!! RACE DRIVERS , they aren’t supposed to be that boring! Anyway, the book is nothing to write home about and the romance is a little too fast paced. The guys only get together to have sex until one day they’re in love and the book has a lot of sexy times yet it’s not a porny book and the sex scenes aren’t bad. They are, as I said above, sweet and endearing and the book though bland it’s enjoyable.
Ok, what I liked was this story being set in an F1 type racing world, and the MCs were apparently going to be rivals to lovers, which is a trope I love.
Annnd that was all I liked.
The characters were just robotic, there was far too much internal monologue and honestly the overall tone of the book felt preachy and condescending.
I felt no connection to either of the main characters, even though it was written in first person. You don't get to experience their emotions, you're just told they're happening.
I also didn't feel a connection between the characters. For two supposedly strong, bullheaded characters there was no fire, no passion. Everything was just polite and pleasant which is not what I'm looking for when reading rivals to lovers!
The side characters also felt pointless and barely even two dimensional. I can understand formality with the royal characters but not with everyone else.
Huge reminder of why I usually avoid any type of royal romance like the plague - it's always stilted and cold.
This book was a bit weirdly written but alas, I’m an F1 girlie and so I was of course gonna read a book inspired by it, I loved all the racing references that for one I was able to understand in a sports-romance book and like yes at the end of the day 2 race drivers being hot with each other sounds very appealing.
Besides, we all know that Carlitos Sainz was at least a little bit the inspiration for Christian
Cristian and Jasper leap off the pages due to their amazing chemistry in this story that I devoured from beginning to end. They have a fantastic dynamic that is both complicated and forbidden due to being racing rivals, but their insane attraction to one another can no longer be denied. I enjoyed how low angst this story was and how clearly these two care for one another, which is further exemplified by their dangerous line of work.
Overall such a fun read that I could not get enough of and loved seeing Cristian and Jasper's relationship grow and develop in this story.
Well, this was a surprise. Very well written and even though the story was nothing new, it worked really well. The transition between enemies to lovers was well done and it was mostly believable. Plus I just loved both of these characters. Bonus for not being overly mushy which I have no patience for lately.
This was pretty cute and the characters were great together, but I sadly found it a little boring. Maybe it was because of the time jumps but I found it hard to see the connection between Cristian and Jasper. Their story spanned two or more years so there were a lot of jumps from one race to another, sometimes even a long break between races too, and being told in one page that all of these months passed just made the story feel rushed. And in all that time I felt like there wasn't enough backstory for either character. I mean Jasper was legit royalty and that was only ever mentioned as more of a side note about him when I felt like that could have been really interesting to find out how he went from being a Royal to being a racer.
Overall, I enjoyed it and I liked the chemistry that I saw between Cristian and Jasper, I just wish there was more of it.
I finished reading this book on a great race weekend. Brazil is always a fab race because we remember the legend of Senna.
I’m passionate about reading and I love F1. Combine the two and add MM to the mix and you have my undivided attention. I love the passion, the drama, the risk, the team work, the fact that the drivers are like rockstars. Leslie McAdam captured it all.
I don’t know which driver I want to win. The Iceman Jasper Nord. Tall, blonde, Swedish royalty. Or the Spanish son of F1 royalty. Cristian Rivera. The characters are written so well, they leap off the page.
The two men together are fire. They hate each other. They clash in such a hot sexy way.
I was thinking Carlos Sainz for Cristian, Hulkenberg for Jasper, but no, the Hulk is too old, and not blonde enough. Then I got Taylor Zakhar Perez in my head and lordy, lordy, lordy, he’s my Cristian. Which of course then gets me thinking that Nicholas Galitzine should be Jasper.
Both win. Jasper and Cristian win the F1 championship for me. Best BJs ever.
Don’t worry if you don’t understand F1 rules and the strange phrases they use, like box, DRS, pit, they are all explained in the book.
Tropes: secret relationship, rivals to lovers, grumpy/sunshine Feels: 4/5 Steam*: 3.5/5 Kinks: some toys Angst: low HEA: yes Pairing: MM Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: near death experience, homophobia
Jasper and Cristian are 25ish. They are rival race car drivers. One night after a race where Cristian made Jasper spin out and lose/crash, Jasper confronts him at the hotel. And a fight turns into a kiss. Cristian is pan or bi, the attraction is no surprise to him. And he revels in the opportunity to rile Jasper up. Jasper is repressed, he's a Swedish Royal who is very conscious of the impression he has to leave. Jasper comes to the realization that he is gay, what he feels with Cristian dwarfs anything else. At first, they keep their distance and don't really talk about their hookup. But then they cave and hook up again, and then again, and then they're making excuses to find time together and oh whoops were boyfriends and in love! Lol
Honestly, this is a sweet, low angst, medium steam story. I liked it, it was a fun ride. It was fun watching them banter and bicker. Jasper was grumpy and Cristian loved to rile him up. They have a long-term secret relationship and that is something I'm a sucker for, I like the tension and and when they secretly mean so much to each other.
It was a wee bit cheesy at times. And you had to suspend a little bit of disbelief about the he political/royalty stuff and that people didn't realize they were together earlier, especially Jasper's guards. But it was a feel good read.
Some notable moments:
"“I didn’t know you were coming,” I say. “Did you have a nice time?” “Cut the crap, Jasper, and find us a place where we can talk,” he murmurs. His tone of voice makes me shiver, because I don’t think he actually wants to talk. That’s fine with me."
"Not long after I enter the bathroom, the door opens, and Cristian falls into my arms, kissing me fiercely. Fuck. Yes. I lock the door behind him, and he scrambles back to me, like he can’t get enough. Like he wants to consume me. Rip my body apart but also worship it."
*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.
**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
“I’m not risking my future,” “I’m creating it. With him.” They were so gosh darn cute together! The story is covering like 3 years, so I was a bit bored in the middle and skimmed a bunch. I loved their banter, even though it was insta-love (definitely NOT enemys) they were funny. My favorite part was when they were in Mexico together. I was straight cheesen my cheeks hurt 💚
I started reading my grandmother's 70s era Harlequin romances when I was 10 and it's where I learned a lot of my random geography knowledge. This book had that nostalgia to me with all of the gallivanting the race teams did. The setting was almost like a separate character. I could picture evenings in Singapore or a "Thelma and Louise" style road trip in the Southwest.
This book has minimal angst and I knew we'd get to that happy ending pretty quick (first chapter iykyk) but it was a fun ride with minimal sharp turns. Jasper and Christian were super sweet and I loved them. They have great families and I think I see another book in the future...
I received an ARC of this book, however, I was not compensated for my review.
I have been following Leslie's career and books for several years now and I love her books. I really believe her M/M books are her best, and Off Track is one of her best. She takes the enemies to lovers trope and gives it a spin that makes the whole story feel like a fairy tale. A handsome prince, a gorgeous commoner falling in love in this fast paced and dangerous world of racing. I've never read a book like it.
She brings the heat with the spicy scenes and finds a way to infuse them with so much heart and love. I'd give it 4/5 🌶️ if you need that warning. ;)
This book was amazing. Loved the tension, sparks and intense sizzle between Cristian and Jasper. The zaps and zings these two generate practically burn through the pages. This seductive romance is full of emotion, drama, heart, twists and humor that is straight up irresistible.
I really enjoyed this sports romance. Their chemistry was amazing. The racing stuff was interesting and added an intensity to the story. Definitely worth reading.

(ENG) This is the first book in a multi-author series set in the world of Formula 1 which is absolutely novel and totally attracted me. In this story, we have Jasper and Cristian, who have been rivals since they were children. One day, instead of hitting each other, they kiss, and everything changes. I really liked both characters, but I did have a little trouble with the pace of the narration. I felt like I wasn't quite able to feel the love between them. We understand each other's perspectives, but I would have loved to see some deeper conversations that really make the relationship romantic. Overall, I found this book entertaining.
Esto estuvo demasiado divertido esta relación entre Jasper 👑 y Cristian 🤦🏼♂️ ha sido lo mas entretenido loco y adorbale una mezcla de todo. Rivalidad, poder, pasión, deseo y más ameeeee
this book was kinda written for me, because i love formula 1 and i love mm romance books, so to have them both in one book, is something i’ve been wanting for. but unfortunately it didn’t live up to the expectations (… or my expectations). because i love sport’s romances, and it’s nice to see it set in a racing world instead of the typical football and hockey world. but the story was rushed, the characters were very shallow with not much development, the story was weak and i just didn’t connect with it. idk if the two other books are gonna have the same vibe… i hope not. anyway, i had a lot of thoughts while reading the book…
okay, i haven’t m started the book yet, but i read the blurb and i already have thoughts about this book. first of all, this paragraph: “Hooking up with Cristian is a terrible idea for so many reasons. Our rivalry fuels sales, and if what we’re doing gets out, we and our teams could lose millions in sponsorship money. We could even lose our jobs.” - i mean seriously? it’s not just a thing with this book, but do anybody really buy that? i mean i know people love a good enemies to lovers or enemies to friend’s story, but i don’t think a frula 1 team is dependent on a rivalry between to race drivers. i actually think the teams would try to avoid it at any cost. also… finding out that two (hypothetical) formula 1 drivers are secretly hooking up and are in love, i think that would create even more attention and by that fuel sales than a rivalry does, so i can’t really see the logic in that paragraph. also, i’ve read so many mm enemies to lovers or rivals to lovers stories, where they weren’t that unfriendly towards each other, so yeah i wouldn’t even call it enemies to lovers. so i really hope cristian and jasper are actual enemies, or that they at least have a nasty rivalry, because otherwise you can’t really call it that
another thing that kinda struck me with the blurb was the description of the two main characters: “It features Cristian Rivera, Spanish racing royalty, and Jasper Nord, literal Swedish royalty.” - idk but i don’t think any monarchy would allow one of their highest and most important members to take part in a sport that is as dangerous as formula 1. and idk… swedish royalty? i remember reading that mcadam was inspired by “young royals” so that’s why she made jasper a swedish prince, but idk it just seems quite unrealistic to me, and i know that it’s fiction and that a lot of writer takes a lot of freedom to write whatever they want, and i know not everything needs to be realistic in a book, but for me… sometimes i just can’t look past the things that makes the book feel unrealistic to me.
but again, i haven’t even read one word in the book, so i might get surprised who knows…. anyway, i’m curious to see how true it will stay to formula 1 (… i’m thinking not much to be honest) and how a mm romance is gonna work in the world of formula 1. i absolutely love formula 1 and i love reading mm romance books, so this book (and this book series) should be the one for me, because it’s made for me, but yeah… let’s see how it is
okay, i like that the authors made a note about how their “formula 1” world works with the teams, and that they made it clear that this is fiction, so it will differ from reality (… i kinda thought it would too, but it’s nice to get the confirmation). anyway, i was a bit surprised by the big time jump, because since we jump two years back in time after the prologue, it seems like cristian and jasper has been hooking up for over two years… and yeah that first hook up came a lot earlier than i was expecting. i mean i’m kinda confused, because there was no lead up to it. okay cristian pushed jasper off track and then won the race instead of jasper, which of course pissed jasper off, but cristian was coming in quite strong and i don’t really get why, because in the twenty pages before the hook-up he hadn’t really mentioned that he was attracted to him or anything liked that. it seems like the kiss was just to gain the upper hand on jasper, but it was just very impulsive and very out of the blue. and yeah it just seemed very random to have it happen like that and for it to happen so early in the book
i’m not that far into the book, but so far it doesn’t feel that coherent… idk the story just jumps a lot in time and in place, so that makes it quite confusing and because of these big gaps, it feels like i’m missing something. again, cristian and jasperms relationship feels every rushed and very out of the blue. i’m missing a lot of details, but when the book is barely over 200 pages it also doesn’t leave much for plot or character development.
both cristian and jasper keep referring to each other as “my rival” or that they are rivals. because apperently them being rivals mean that they can’t ever be anything else. they can never be seen taking with each other, they can never become friends or just friendly with each other, because they’re rivals. and i can’t really see what the big problem is? i could understand if they were afraid of what the world would say to having two racers being in a relationship with each other (… and both of them being men)? but i can’t see why they can’t go from rivals to being together? the way they’re acting and handling is just a bit atupid, because they act like they can’t even talk with each other or like each other (in a non-romantic way) because they have to keep up the image of them being rivals. again, i don’t really see the issue, and everytime they mention the fact that they are rivals, they just make it clear that they’re not rivals and never really have been. i mean theyre competitors, competing in the same competition for the same price. so yeah, the premise is juat a little weird and seems stupid to me. like this quote; “We lose our briefs, and I’m naked and making out with my bitter rival in my own bedroom. If this came out on social media? The world would end.” - sorry to disappoint you, but i don’t think so. again, i don’t think anyone would care, and in fact i think more people would love and enjoy the love story rather than the story about two drivers being rivals, because every race driver are essentially rivals. again, i don’t get why they make such a big fuss about it.
apperently jasper’s family has a problem with jasper and cristian being a couple, because cristian isn’t ‘blue-blooded’… i don’t think the royals actually care about that anymore since the younger generations are marrying ‘normal’ or common people. so yeah, i don’t really buy that. also… erik and jasper talks about their grandmother’s brother and how him marrying a flight attendant apperently caused big trouble, so jasper should be aware of choosing someone better than a racing driver for a partner. but didnt jasper’s cousin marry a bodyguard? how is that acceptable then? also, why isn’t cristian acceptable? because jasper stas it has nothing to do with the fact that cristian is a man, and that they would be in a same sex couple… so what is the problem. him being a famous racing driver with famous people? is that really so bad? idk it feels like the book is contradicting itself.
even though they’re okay cute together, i still think cristian and jasper’s relationship is pretty shallow and not that… idk deep? it seems like all they do is kiss and have sex. there’s a few conversations between them, but i don’t really feel like they get to know each other. it’s like the book is trying to say that they don’t need to speak in order to get to know each, they can just have sex and then the job is done. idk, it’s just not that interesting to read about them deciding who’s gonna top and who’s gonna bottom, and never really talk about themselves. just because they started out their relationship by sleeping together, doesn’t mean that they can’t talk or get to know each other. it annoys me that the main characters in mm romance always take about the other one being naked, about wanting to be naked with them and feel their lips on their body and everything else similar to that. but they never wish to just get a hug from them, just being near them or talking with them. i know not all mm romance books are like that, but a lot of the ones i have read, the men’s relationship are always highly sexual. and i don’t mind that, but i need something else too. i need to see and read about them sharing more than just sex, because i don’t quite understand who that can be the only vital thing in a relationship. being able to talk to someone, to share stuff with them is just as (… if not more) important than just having sec with them. so i have a hard time connecting with cristian and jasper, because i don’t really see the connection between them
again, i don’t understand what the big deal is about cristian and jasper being a couple. for example this line said by cristian’s father; “The fact that he’s a man is not the problem. The fact that he is your rival? That is a big problem.” - so i ask again, why is that a problem? again, i could understand why everyone was so against it if it was because they were two men being together (… even though it’s absolutely not), but i don’t get why it’s such a big deal when them being rivals is something that was created by fans, by the media, and used by both their teams as a marketing strategy, but it’s not like their whole career or the sport is dependent on them being a couple or not. and i think it’s weird the book is not explaining it more, like what exactly is the big deal with two ‘rivals’ being a couple? what are they afraid of will happen when the old finds out? the whole premise of this book is the fact that they’re ‘rivals’ which i don’t see as a problem or any different than them being rivals with the other drivers… so yeah it me just frustrating that the book doesn’t explain it
i know jasper and the other drivers showing up at the hospital after cristian had his crash, is supposed to be a touching scene, a scene that shows how much jasper and the other drivers care, that they are a tight family. but all i can think of is how that would never happen in real life, and how cringe it actually is. i get that jasper wants to see cristian, i mean i can only imagine how scary it is to know your loved one is in the hospital after such a crash, but the way it happen was way too dramatic and unrealistic. i mean him just storming off like that… and the fact that everyone just allowed it? yeah, that would never happen. if jasper would just have taken a breather and maybe waited five minutes and maybe changed out of his racing suit, somebody would have made sure that he was taken to the hospital. also, then six other drivers are coming to the hospital as well, but we have no connection to them whatsoever so the meaning behind the gesture doesn’t really hit or matter, because who are these characters anyway. because they haven’t really played a part one before; and again i know that you can’t really create much well developed plot when you only have 220 pages, but it would have been nice to see either jasper or cristian hanging out with some of the other drivers or just some of their friends. why is it that characters never have friends? and if they do, they have one friendship that’s almost too much, like the author is trying too hard to create a friendship to make up for the lack of other friends.
Hmm… I don’t know where to start from. Honestly speaking? It’s not good, but also I enjoyed it lol. It somehow doesn’t make any sense yet I kept going. Unfortunately it is fast paced, some link-ups don’t make any sense. The amount of internal conversations pissed me off I have to say. Barely any build-up besides sex, no real conversations, nothing. BUT I still enjoyed it, I guess I really liked Cristian and Jasper which made me keep going. 3 stars for enjoying their moments, nothing else. Call it a guilty pleasure.
pleasently surprised by the way the racing was explained for a racing book, felt like there could be more focus on that though. it felt like a lot of spice without much communication, still a very enjoyable book
