This book is one of the most eloquently written books I have ever read. Adalyn and Zack’s love story is REAL. It is RAW, and it is BEAUTIFUL. There is nothing to dislike about this book.

Rynn Ely’s debut is something of the ages. A book this powerful needs to be read. It encapsulates what it means to be in love, and to suffer loss. This is not a book to read if you want a frilly, silly romance. Memories of Yesterday is a real love, in all of it’s beauty and messiness

Thank you to Rynn and Spellbound Publishing for a copy of this ARC💗 All opinions are my own.

Memories of Yesterday has been one of the best books that I have read in a while. I am in love with the chemistry between Adayln and Zack! These characters don't feel rushed or like they're forced together. It's so natural and real! This story broke my heart but also made it whole at the same time. I wish I could start it over from the beginning, never having read it before. Such a beautiful story on what real true love is! Rynn Ely did an incredible job. 5 stars from me!

Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely is a small town, slow burn romance. Adalyn is a bubbly character and a little terrified about being in a relationship. When she meets the newcomer Zack Blake, she takes the chance after getting to know him.

This is an amazing book. I love how relatable it is about how complicated relationships can be. Ely's writing makes you feel like you are right next to Adalyn each step of the way. She brings out so many emotions from you and you cannot stop reading to see what happens next. Adalyn goes through great character development that she feels like a real person, someone I would want to be friends with. You can easily tell Ely's put their heart and soul into this book. The ending of the book left me speechless with how well written it was..... and left me with some tears.

I wish I could read this book for the first time again. One of my favorite books of the year.

this has become one of my top 10 books this year, for sure! i just know that this book & rynn are going to go so far & im so incredibly grateful to be a part of the arc team for this book.

can i just talk about the ending real quick? because oh my lord did it destroy me!! it left me in tears. i felt so empty when i finished this book. rynn beautifully describes how love can be beautiful & painful at the same time.

❤️SPOILER FREE REVIEW❤️

Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely is a beautifully told, relatable and realistic small town romance. I found myself rooting for Adalyn Dawn and Zackary Blake’s relationship in the same way I did when I watched Lorelai Gilmore & Luke Dane’s on-screen chemistry in the famous TV show Gilmore Girls. Their relationship is messy and complicated, and it takes a tremendous shared loss for them to finally come together and decide they truly want to be together. This novel is perfect for reading snug by a fireplace in the late fall or early winter. It represents a “found family” theme and takes the reader through the process of complex emotions. That being said, I feel obligated to note there are mentions of recreational drug use within this novel that might be triggering to certain readers. While I have nothing but good things to say about how this novel made me feel, I recognize that there are repetitive scenes and some minor inconsistencies that can be easily overlooked by the tragic and emotional ending. I don’t personally believe that I am the target audience. I think this novel would appeal to an older audience than I but nonetheless enjoyed the ride.

Finally, my favorite quotes from the novel.

Chapter 28 Page 209
“She’d pondered time and time again if this was worth it, but there was something that told her to stay; something that told her it was. So, here she was. Was she a fool? Perhaps.” - Adalyn Dawn

Chapter 31 Page 230
“Heartbroken that it was too good to be true, he recognized that to her, he was no longer enough and she wanted out. To which, he simply set her free.” - I feel that putting a name to the quote would be considered a spoiler.

You can find Memories of Yesterday on Amazon or the Barns and Noble website.

Here is how I rate books
5⭐ Loved it and would read it twice or buy it twice without question
4⭐ Loved it, but wouldn’t likely read it twice or purchase it again.
3⭐ I liked it and would still recommend it. I see the potential but I think it could use some work.
2⭐ I didn’t like it but for some reason needed to finish it or there were certain characters or scenes that made finishing it worthwhile regardless.
1⭐ DNF or A book club pick that I absolutely hated but felt obligated to finish.

Finally a Huge thank you to my post editor R. L. Lemon!

Memories of Yesterday is a remembrance of a love story told by Adalyn Dawn, the FMC, as she recounts key moments of her two year relationship.

The writing had a dream-like quality to it as the story jumped from one moment to the next. Adalyn's home in the forest added to the dream-like quality. I did get a bit lost in the narrative as certain moments seemed to cut off abruptly, but in restrospect, since each moment is from a memory, it makes sense that this would happen. After all, one cannot always recollect every single detail of a particular moment or memory.

Adalyn is portrayed as being terrified of relationships and very picky. But in meeting Zack, she is utterly captivated. He is someone that is willing to stand the test of time, but her reticence held her back. I felt like Adalyn jerked Zack around her hot and cold behavior. I felt so frustrated for him.

The ending was absolutely heartbreaking and the sense of despair was undeniable. I was not expecting it despite the prologue.

I may have helped the Rynn in the process of creating this book, but I would say this even if I hadn’t:

This book is something special. It’s made with a lot of heart and is truly a journey from start to finish. There are so many threads and intricacies to the story that will surprise you. It is not a story that you think you will be able to predict, but it IS a story that you will love the journey of. There is something so beautiful about Rynn’s writing, and again, even though I had a small hand in helping with the end of this book, I was immediately taken with it as soon as she showed it to me. The book has an incredible journey with a great stack of characters that will leave you with a full heart and a newfound love of stories.

Seeing this book from where I landed in the process to where it is now has been an incredible journey. I know you will love this book but only if you love heartfelt journeys, stories, and characters that feel like friends.

This was a really emotional book, the concept and characters have lived through some truly heartbreaking moments and their love for each other really shone through throughout.

I liked the characters in this and wanted what was best for them. Would have loved to see more development of them as individuals.

I struggled a little with the pacing- the story moved quickly and in places I would have liked to see this fleshed out more which would have helped to understand and really care for them.

The love story is sweet and genuine. It’s quite insta love and fast paced and I would have liked to see it develop a little slower.

Overall and enjoyable read but a few pacing issues

Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely
Memories of Yesterday is about a small town girl whos world is turned upside down due to tragedy, and looks back on two years worth of memories from her relationship.

I don't know where to start with this book. This book made me feel so many emotions! This got me going from frustration, to smiling, to shock, and then to crying! I also really loved the concept of the dates and hopping through those two years looking back on memories. That was new for me. I do have to say the first chapter immediately grabbed my attention. I was hooked right there. But after that I was lost throughout the first 10 to 15 chapters. I felt like things were a little too descriptive in the beginning. Don't get me wrong, I love it when authors are descriptive. It helps paint a picture but in this book I got caught and lost in reading the description instead of picturing it. Also the dialog in the beginning was a little dry, but towards the middle and end it got a lot better. To the point where I felt like I was standing there next to the characters. Now to the emotions and character part. I absolutely loved Zach and Adalyn together. It was a slow burn at first, but once they finally admit their feelings to each other i was smiling! Now there were some parts where Adalyn annoyed me. I'm gonna leave it at that cause I might drop some spoilers. But I will say, she did grow on me towards the end.... Now the ending. Oh my goodness! I wish I had a box of tissues next to me. I couldn't stop crying!! Overall I'm giving this 3 stars.

Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely is a beautifully written story about a complex relationship that touched on many real and raw emotions that most love story’s skip over.

Overall, while I appreciated how emotionally charged this story was, I felt there were some things lacking. The writing was beautiful but sometimes I got lost in the flourishing descriptions, and I hoped there would be a little more description of the town and go deeper into some of the characters. Things such as Adalyn’s role in the town that is mentioned many times but it’s not really explained until the second half of the book and only briefly, would pull me out of the story because I didn’t understand what it was supposed to mean. It’s hard to say if it was because of pacing or lack of in-depth feelings from the characters, but I never fully connected with Adalyn’s character or the main relationship in this story.

I really appreciate stories that don’t rely on happily ever afters, and I think the ending fits the story here. However, because I didn’t feel that connection to the characters, I found myself thinking that I should feel sad about this but the emotions never surfaced.

I enjoyed this raw and real portrayal of a love story and it was worth the read, but I wish I liked it more than I did.

This debut novel by Rynn is something you need to read asap!

If you’re a small town romance lover like me this book should be on your TBR, the author made me fall in love with the characters in this read from the first page, I couldn’t help but relate to Adalyn and seeing her character development through out the book was such a treat to read. Zack the mmc is probably my dream man now, Rynn really knows how to write deep and complex characters.

This is a slow burn packed with many emotions and a journey you are going to want to go on but make sure you pack your tissues, I really enjoyed the plot because it was unique and the author has a unique writing style, you’re jumping in time as you read, this concept really kept me hooked while reading. I picked this book and was unable to put it down until I got to the last page. I hope to read more by this author soon.

Before I begin I want to thank Spellbound Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this book and also preface this by saying I don't believe I'm the intended audience for this book.

The book starts out with a pretty descriptive death scene of an unknown character before jumping backwards two years to introduce everyone and start the story. All of the characters felt very one dimensional to me with the exception of our main character Adalyn Dawn who has main character syndrome. The interactions between Adalyn and her family/friends felt like they weren't close at all with their conversations being mainly small talk.

The timeline of the book and how quickly the months passed between each chapter left me feeling like I didn't get to know the characters well. The characters don't have a chance to grow and get fleshed out well when literal months are being skipped every time a chapter changes, so you as the reader are left feeling like you've missed parts of their lives.

The Author uses descriptive language, but I was beginning to wonder how often a thesaurus was used with all of the showy words and run-on sentences I had to read to get to the end of this book, much like this sentence itself. I shall be happy if I never had to read another food analogy to describe someone again.

All in all, I don't think there was enough plot to this book to hold my attention well and the characters were lackluster to me. I was moved by the ending and what Adalyn went through and I feel for the characters and the author but this will not be a reread for me.

Memories of Yesterday felt so relatable when it comes to heartache, finding love, friendship and self growth. It was very much of a pleasure to read it early as a beta reader and I can't wait to see what Rynn Ely comes up with next. Never give up on your dreams like she did as she is inspiring each day and when we chat.

I enjoyed this one! Watching the relationship unfold between Zack and Adalyn was really fun to read. I’m usually not a fan of slow burn romances, but this was definitely a book that made it worth it to read till the end. We gotta talk about the ending too. Definitely make sure that you have tissues ready because the ending had me sobbing. All in all, I give it a 4 out of 5 stars for sure.

This was a really nice and beautifully written romance novel that follows the highs and lows of Adalyn and Zack’s relationship. Ely does a wonderful job with character development for Adalyn, I only wished the same for Zack’s character. Through their life-altering trials and triumphs, we get a glimpse of their blossoming romance in very real and relatable circumstances. This novel is not without a few tearful moments that were unexpected but truly bring the whole story full circle. Thank you for Spellbound Publishing and Rynn Ely for this ARC. I’m looking forward to more books by Ely.

Thank you to Spellbound Publishing House for the ARC!!

Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely recounts the heartbreaking, yet saccharine story of Adalyn Dawn’s life with her found friends, her sleepy mountain town, and her love interest, Zackary Blake. Told through memories over the course of two years, this tale depicts the sweetest and most devastating moments. Adalyn, her friends, and occasional visitors have lived their lives in complete comfort in their respective cities, but they are all continually drawn to slow down in a small town called Dawn Hills. Being a confident, driven woman, Adalyn works hard to ensure that Dawn Hills stays a picturesque, a forest sanctuary for those looking for reprieve from the hustle and bustle of life. Adalyn knows who she is, what she wants, and where she wants to go - until she is irrevocably changed when she meets Zach. Through beautifully detailed snapshots of Adalyn’s life, we follow their slow-burn relationship as they grapple with their gravitational pull toward each other, while deeply struggling with the unmistakable bleakness of both their haunting pasts.

Ely’s writing style is reminiscent of Tahereh Mafi where the memories being portrayed are framed with incredibly detailed exposition. There were so many times where I was stunned to silence at the poignant picture Ely was able to paint. As a reader, writer, and teacher, I applaud Ely’s abilities to weave this amount of intention using figurative language; there wasn’t a single scene where I couldn’t viscerally imagine where I was. Even as a debut novelist, I’d love to see her cross genres into poetry!

Where her writing style is one of my favorite aspects of this novel, I sometimes struggled with the depiction and actions of her characters. For a novel that is told as a recollection of memories, there were several characters that weren’t memorable enough - I fought to keep track of all the characters being introduced so closely to one another. Because their characterizations were usually limited to a few lines, they were easy to confuse with one another. While one or two had a character arc, most characters were static and superfluous to this beautifully-crafted story about two characters’ complicated love story.

I absolutely love a timeline-hop story, and I love going back to the first chapter after finishing the book to complete the timeline. I was so emotional as I reread the first chapter after that ending! On the other hand, with this sort of story setup and the massive time gaps between interactions, we need to feel like we know and empathize with the protagonists. Because of the distance (reader to story and memory to memory), a few of the ‘plot twists’ felt like they came out of nowhere. Without consistent, concrete foreshadowing or profound dialogue to ground us to the story and characters, retelling a love story through fragmented memories can fall off the tightrope into an ocean of unreliability and disingenuity. I’d love to see Ely perfect her craft that we see so impeccably illustrated through exposition and imbue it into the depth of her characters’ dialogue and interactions.

Plot-wise, however, the story’s pacing works well. This story keeps you on your toes while you follow the adventure Adalyn goes on to find the same solace she has in Dawn Hills in a romantic partner. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will find yourself cheering for different characters at different times. I found myself empathizing with how truly difficult it is to follow your heart when faced with a fallible love. Through these short memories, we are able to navigate (usually soul-crushing) themes of true love’s timing, forgiveness, grief, and found family through the relationships in Adalyn's life. By piecing together these snapshots of Adalyn’s, Ely weaves a touching love story sure to surprise you and will settle in your heart forever.

I highly recommend Memories of Yesterday to anyone who is seeking a unique take on a love story, prose that takes your breath away, and heartache that you will welcome to stay. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a review. There are a few slight spoilers ahead.
Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely is an entrancing story that is full of emotions ranging from bliss to despair. She takes us through two years of Adalyn Dawn’s life, two years that she spent with her friend and boyfriend, Zack. This love story is set in the fictional town of Dawn Hills, which is a well-crafted setting that this reviewer would love to visit in person.
Adalyn is a tremendously loveable main character, and in spite of her privileged upbringing that would normally predispose someone into turning into a Regina George type of character, Addy remains loving, generous, and kind to a fault. She is a leader of the best kind, one who thinks with her head but leads with her heart.
Zack, as the love interest, is set up to be a relatively perfect dreamy man, and he lives up to that expectation. Although he’s not perfect, none of the characters are, and these faults are what make him and the rest of the cast believable and relatable. The cast meshes together very well and it’s easy to see how their histories together have shaped their interactions in the ‘present’ day.
The overall premise of the book, being that of a once in a lifetime romance cut far too short, is intriguing and well crafted. Learning Adalyn and Zack’s love story through small vignettes of their lives together, seeing how they grow and change for and because of one another, is a beautiful tale that kept me turning every page. If you’re not paying attention to the date stamps at the beginning of every chapter, things may seem like they’re moving quickly, but once you realize this tale takes place over the course of two years it feels much more natural.
There are two small critiques I have for this book, and one is that at times the dialog feels very businesslike and formal during conversations that are meant to be charged with emotion. A scene with Adalyn and her longtime friend Ragnar in particular sounded as if they were speaking to each other in a conference room instead of in Addy’s living room. This only mildly detracts from the story, and is an absolute non-issue the further you get into it.
My other small critique is that there are a few scenes that ended sooner than I personally feel was necessary, and lengthening them would have added a lot more depth to the tale. There aren’t really any threads left untied, but there are some mentions of things in Adayln and Zack’s pasts that I would have loved to see expanded on, and the secondary and seemingly rival setting of Shadow Mountain was a huge mystery that could likely fill another book. There’s absolutely a huge history to Dawn Hills and the surrounding area, the position of the Architect, and other things involving the setting that would likely make for a wonderful saga if Rynn was inclined to add more books to this setting.
Rynn Ely is an absolutely talented writer, and I feel like she is really finding her groove and where she’s comfortable with this book. Towards the beginning, things feel a bit more formal and stiff, but as Rynn leads us through the story she allows herself to loosen up and let all the heart and love she has for her own tale shine through. From here on out, Rynn’s books can only get better and better, and I for one am absolutely looking forward to her next tale.

Memories of Yesterday
By Rynn Ely
ARC Review
⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely tells the story of a girl in love who loses her true love in a car accident which was tragic or something like that because it was interesting ar first for the context but I felt that was boring through the next pages.

The plot wasn’t enough to create an interesting book because it had some gaps which they needed to be filled with some thoughts from the girl who lost her true love or less drama but it wasn’t, so I couldn’t read more with positive vibes. Instead of that I read this book with issues because of the mistakes and some boring details.

The characters were interesting and really catchy because they had a creative way to describe the negative thoughts and feelings even though there were some important details about their relantionship and their love for eachother because it’s sad to lose your true love which brought the book’s popularity. Despite of the tragic events, our girl recieved a second chance somehow to fix everything with her boyfriend. I didn’t like it because of the details which they were boring by the way.

For a book that had many plot twists, it was a complete dissapointment because of the boring details, because of the mistakes in the author’s writing style which was pretty disturbing for me as a reader who wanted to read something classic or something clear and creative about true love at the same time.

For the record, I won’t recommend this book because of the reasons which they appear in the previous paragraphs and for the lack of creativity for a writer who wanted to be a good a storyteller but it was the opposite.

The love between Adalyn Dawn and Zachary Blake is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. No matter how complicated and messy things get, they are certainly each other's person. The reader gets to join Adalyn and Zack for snippets of their whirlwind romance. I feel that giving more details about the plot could ruin the book for someone else, so I will be stingy with the summary this time.

This book was difficult to rate. It was beautifully written; but the writing style took some getting used to. It also took me awhile to get into the story. I didn't immediately feel close to the characters and it was hard to keep my attention on the book at the beginning. The writing was very flowery and wordy and the descriptions were plentiful. Unfortunately, in the beginning, this hindered my impression of the book. The further I read, the more I began to let in the characters and the writing style grew on me. By the middle of the book, I was invested and I didn't put the book down from there until the last page. I also found myself in tears once or twice, which shows how powerful the writing was and how much I grew to care about the characters.

While a slow-burn romance is not my everyday read, I've been trying to widen my reading horizons this year. I'm glad I gave this book a shot. It was absolutely worth it in the end. It's a Read It for sure!

Note: I received a misprinted copy of this book from the author. I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

4 Stars!
Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely is a book about Adalyn Dawn as she looks back on the past two years of her relationship with Zack Blake after an unfortunate accident. This author’s writing style made it easy for me to read as I have dyslexia. My only qualm about this book is that it felt a little dialogue heavy for me personally at times. I loved how descriptive Ely was throughout the book. As someone who has trouble visualizing some written and spoken words, I was easily able to visualize what was going on throughout the book. I absolutely loved the characters in the book. Rynn did an amazing job with characterization. Adalyn was very relatable and I loved Zack’s Golden Retriever energy. Everyone else is exactly what you want in a small town romance and it felt like I was in the books with them. I love the premise of the plot. Being able to see how their relationship developed with an inkling of a hint to what happened in the present is a great selling point. The small town romance and friends to lovers themes are ones I will never get tired of. It was heartbreaking and you will definitely need a box of tissues nearby in the end! Overall, I loved this book and what went on. Congratulations on your novel, Rynn! I can’t wait to see more from you in the future.

Memories of Yesterday by Rynn Ely is a sweet love story that felt like reading a script from a Hallmark movie. It follows the story of Adalyn and her relationships in a small town.

I had a hard time connecting with the characters due to a lack of depth, and found the story generally rushed. I found Adalyn very annoying at several points which did not help the lack of development in trying to connect with her. I had trouble picturing several of the scenes due to certain verbiage, like “visiting the States” which made me question where exactly this is set in addition to the type of town she lived in, and that she apparently helped design. I also couldn’t figure out what her job was thought it was mentioned several times. I would’ve liked more development in this way. However, the author clearly has a firm idea of the complicated love story she wants to tell, and there are several twists in the story. Though I think it could’ve been more developed, it is a nice story of a woman trying to find her happiness. If you enjoy anything on Hallmark you will probably enjoy this debut.

This book is a great well written emotional read. I loved the chemistry between Adalyn and Zack! They meet and become friends and then things start to change in their relationship. I resonated with this as a reader, as I had this exact relationship with my husband:)

Both of them don't want to say anything to each other and there are so many things that happen and come between them. The story follows the love that they have for each other and then what happens when they are always coming across obstacles in their lives and relationships.

You will need a tissue for this one y'all!
