"It comprises three novels: Union Clues, Broken Lock and Grand Stand. Whilst boating features prominently, I did not want to write traditional canal-based novels, where the protagonists travel from A to B and have a bunch of adventures along the way. I have tried to do something genuinely different and, judging by the reviews, many readers really appreciate that.
At the heart of the series lies a very unusual crime, which sets off a train of events that gains momentum with each book. I can't say anything more without giving away the plot, but I'm confident you won't have encountered a crime like this in any other novel. However, the books themselves are not crime novels per se. They are about friendship, guilt, revenge, courage, deceit, despair, love, loyalty and - above all - self-discovery.

Ice Magic is a charming and elegant collection of 29 tales ranging from the short to the very short — the author has even kindly put an estimated read time for each story in the front of the book — so there is a tale to fit whatever spare time you have.
It takes great skill to write short stories which contain a complete and satisfying tale in just a few pages, or even a few lines, and this author delivers in spades. A mixed bag of different genres, I loved how I never knew what the next story would bring and I consumed this book over a couple of evenings. It’s now sitting on my bedside for me to pick out tales and read again, this time to savour them and give them the attention they deserve.
This was a wonderful introduction to a new-to-me author and I will be going on to buy more of her books. A thoroughly enjoyable five shiny stars from me.
