Trouble Down Under #2

The Kangaroo Case

Rate this book
I was the last person to see Steve Walsh before he went missing. And as one of my best customers, I thought I knew a thing or two about the guy.

But it turns out I didn't. Not really, anyway. With an impending divorce and a workplace accident derailing his life, half the town of Myrtleglen had written him off as dead in Australia's harsh bushlands. I wasn't one of them, though. I mean, who goes and orders a truck full of soil for the garden before wandering into a treacherous wilderness unaccompanied?

The arrival of a strange magical current in the air was far too much of a coincidence for my tastes. And while I would have sworn Steve was as normal as they came, I knew deep down the two must be connected.

Up against the clock, I had to work fast to establish the cause of the magical disturbance and what the heck it had to do with Steve before exposure to unseasonal heat made his death inevitable. All while avoiding the scourge of kangaroos threatening to run me off the road.

If you enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries with a horticultural twist, this book is for you.

When our hero goes missing, our heroine is the only one to take the case seriously. It is going to take a bit of luck and magic to find him, though, and lots of kangaroos to make this a happy ending.

This is book two of the series, but it is written as a standalone. Feel free to start anywhere.

This is a cozy witch mystery story. The story is well written and easy to read with a some wonderful characters and a nicely developed setting (and I don't just mean Australia). I really like our heroine as she has a great sense of humor and a nice approach to tackling the mystery. I enjoyed the opportunity to really sink my teeth into this one and am definitely looking forward to the next story..

Highly recommended

I’ve been reading a few books by this author in this series, and I think they continue to be fun. This latest has someone in Kat’s small-town disappearing, her experiencing weird electrical surges, and her bunyip and familiar acting a little odd. She has to use all the tools at her disposal to find out what is going on and not lose her life in the process. This continues to be a well-written series, and I like that this is not a series that has murders. Not that I mind murders, but this makes this series unique in the way the author finds for the mystery part of the books. If you just need a quick, fun read, this series is a good way to go! Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

poor Gus might be a very old familiar who once walked on two feet, but he was unprepared for quarantine on arrival in Australia. poor Gus.

Kat has a few regular customers in her landscaping supply business, and a register that seems to zap only her.

when one of her best customers goes missing, Kat struggles to get any attention or support from the Inquisition

what dangers are loose near Myrtleglen, smelling of fire and soot?

Drama and action packed adventures with witchly bureaucracy, a native spirit or elder or two, and a nasty ex hex thrown in

P.A. Mason has once again given a great Aussie witchy paranormal cozey mystery tale life. Has Kat been cursed by her ex's family it sure seems that way because she can't remember ever being such a cluts , Its the wind and heat to something not natural is going on and now one of Kat's customers has gone missing. Not any customer but one of her top. It's definitely time to check things out. As always there are vibrant and colorful characters next to an intriguing mystery to figure out. Acquire " The Kangaroo Case " and be entertained for hours. 🤔🙂😀😔😏😉😀 Kat

A Kangaroo Case is the second book in the Trouble Down Under series by P. A. Mason.

Kat’s busy with her shop in Australia and is dealing with a series of accidents. Then a customer disappears and Kat wonders if it has to do with the odd magic she feels in the air.

I really like this series. It is an easy-to-read, entertaining story. It is great to have Gus, her familiar, join her. It’s an interesting mystery and Kat has to use her limited magical contacts to help investigate.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Wow, I just could not stop myself from finishing this book. It begins with Kat getting zapped by her cash machine, a mob of kangaroos on the road & being saved by Billy the Bunyip as a tree crashes down where she’d been standing. She’s off to collect Gus from quarantine & knows he will not be a happy cat! She’s not wrong there! Then one of her regular customers goes missing & Billy, Gus & Kat all feel bad magic. One they have to solve on their own.

Love this series so far

I really enjoy this series. This is the second entry, and it's even better than the first. They're fun, funny and quirky. Kat is a cool character and I really enjoy her personality as well as that of her ancestral familiar, Gus, and the other regular characters. I'm not going to give any spoilers or details. Just know if you enjoy fun cozy mysteries with a side of witchyness, you'll likely enjoy P.A. Mason's books.

More witchy mystery

This series just gets better and better. Kat is settling down in Myrtleglen, but she can't keep her witchy fingers out of the latest mystery. And her helpful neighbours are improving her knowledge of Aussie slang and customs. So it's a great education for readers as well. Lots of fun, slick prose and likeable characters keeps the pages turning as the plot twists.
A great short read.

A fun read with a new character in Billy the Bunyip, and with Gus already grumpy from travel and quarantine, there is a bit of settling in. I love reading stories set in an area I know - the familiarity of language, culture, weather- even fire danger - is comforting. Received as a complimentary copy from the author in return for an honest review.

When you open the cover to one of PA Mason' s novels you will know your are in for an interesting ride. When writing cozy novels you will find P A writes laugh-out-loud, page-turning mysteries. Her heroines aren’t perfect, but they’re smart, they struggle, and they succeed. I received this n ovel through BookFunnel and this review is my honest opinion.

Too short a story

I found this story curiously sudden in its ending. I was enjoying Kat and the council's adventures when suddenly she phoned her ex and that was it.
I do so hope for a sequel.

Magic everywhere

Fun story set in Australia. Kat moved to Australia when she inherited her aunt's home. Only problem is she's also inherited a water spirit and a magical mystery. Good plot and fun characters. Great world building. Highly recommend.

Hah! At this rate Kat will be joining the ranks of the inquisitors! She seems to be dealing with things fine on her own with help from the bunyip and Gus. I hope she isn’t sans a plus one to Shianne’s wedding! This is such a fun series to read and I am LOVING it!

Ms. Mason has another hit on her hands. The Trouble Down Under Series is, so far, loads of fun with plenty of snark thanks to Gus and enough action to keep it moving right along. The plot is well thought out, the mystery is intriguing and the characters are engaging. I've never heard of a bunyin before but this book has one. And what, pray tell, is a bunyin? Well you'll just have to read the book to find out!

I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Things kept going wrong for Kat, almost as if she was cursed.... ok, she was but being half way around the world and having had quite sometime since the curse was first cast, surely things should start calming down by now? Unless there were other factors at play.....

An interesting read, as always from Mason. I especially like it when she includes some of the Australianisms - eye opening, educational and it makes me smile. Yup, certainly looking forward to the next one.
