Sometimes after you've made it through the difficulties there is more to come, and J.C. Bryer doesn't shy away from the difficult times in Call the third book in the Keep series.

Before I get into a brief review, I just have to give a huge acknowledgement to the narrator Michael Katz for bringing this story to life. It is always difficult for a solo narrator to pull off multiple parts, but he does such a brilliant job with Bayn and the others. Even with Lila, but he pulled it off and the further I get into the series the more I have become so accustomed to him reading me their story I can't possibly imagine anyone else doing it.

As with my previous reviews I have kept the details limited and I plan to do the same with this one. The author keeps her blurbs short just giving you enough to entice and that is how this series deserves to be read. There are difficult themes at play here not only in this book but in the previous two as well. What you need to remember is Bryer doesn't hold back on the difficult topics. She gives them to you so while your heart is aching just know that she is going to make it all better before too long with something so lovely you'll be wondering why you were in tears just moments ago.

Lila really showed her strength in this one. That's not to say she didn't struggle because she did, but she also showed what she was made of. Strength, beauty and grace. There are still two books to come in this series and I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see where J.C. Bryer takes it!!

This is such a beautiful series and I love how each book builds on the last. It is perfect that each book focuses on a few of the characters in detail so you really get to know them. Lila is the heart of this story and her husband's band around her. I love seeing each characters back story and the depth that their feelings bring to each other. This is such a fun fantasy world that I would recommend!

Unexpectedly Better Book by Book

At first, the POV flashbacks tended to pull me out of the book. Then, gradually--by book 3, that's when you really notice it--the characters gained significant depth. I knew what the author was trying to do in book 1, but she really delivered here.

Lila, the FMC, had lines in this book that I laughed myself silly on. I made my sisters listen to me and read them out loud.. They laughed, too.

The worldbuilding is dark but truly well done.
It's clear and beautiful, for all its thorns,

Now, I would recommend this novel to anyone interested. I have to say that the books keep you reading, and they get better as you get further into the series.

Give them a try.

This book seems like a step backwards from the second. In Stand I was used to the structure and flow of the first 2 books, Call seemed like way more story lines thrown together without a flow into each.

That said it was nice to get some understanding of Ren past and present from this book. I personally wanted more of little Ren and Ket, they are so adorable to read. So far Wil is my favorite but I have high hopes for Bear in the next book.

Check trigger warnings- Bryer does good of keeping the darker sections spread out but this book has the most triggers out of the first 3 for me- beatings, attempted murder of a child, and bordering sa or harassment at least toward the end, this probably isn’t all of the triggers just the ones I remember so please check
