Only one thing stood between me and my dream of becoming a creative writer: I couldn’t do two things at once.

Upon retiring from my career in marketing communications, I decided to devote my full attention to writing fiction, thereby solving my multi-tasking challenge.

I began my creative writing journey by enrolling in the online Writers’ Program offered by UCLA. In a series of courses taught by professional writers, I learned how to craft memorable characters, create colorful worlds, and outline suspenseful plots enriched with drama and conflict.

Taking one baby step at a time, I managed to bridge the gulf between writing promotional copy in short bursts to rendering full scale novels. As an interim step, I wrote three screenplays.

My three feature length scripts; "Love Will Find You," “Joshua’s Decision, and "A Prescription for Happiness" have reached the finals or placed in several major screenplay competitions.

My first novel, a Science Fantasy, “Three Days to Darkness,” was nominated to the James Kirkwood Prize for creative writing.

My publishing company, Entelligent Entertainment, has also published "Scarlet Ambrosia" and my latest novel: "Micromium--Clean Energy from Mars."

The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human is a fast-paced science fiction novella that centers on Derrick Faulk, a hard-nosed investigator for the National Science Service, tasked with recovering a stolen file that contains plans for hyper-realistic androids. Alongside his savvy and mysterious partner, Aurora Zolotov, Faulk dives headfirst into a high-stakes investigation that quickly evolves into a journey across dimensions. With synthetic humans on the verge of becoming indistinguishable from the real thing, and a rogue android possibly escaping to a parallel world, the story explores the fine line between artificial and alive intelligence, all while blending espionage, sci-fi tech, and a dose of romantic tension.

Reading this novella was like getting dropped into a high-tech thriller with just enough emotional grit to keep you grounded. I liked how David Gittlin built the world. It’s slick, slightly offbeat, and full of detail, but he doesn’t drown you in explanation. The pacing moves. And Faulk’s dry wit cuts through the tension in just the right way. That said, some dialogue can feel a little stiff, and the inner monologues tend to meander. Still, there’s charm in how raw and personal the narration is. Gittlin isn’t afraid to let his characters brood, stumble, or flirt awkwardly. I appreciated that. Also, the tech hit the sweet spot between weird and cool.

But what really got me thinking was the heart of the story. This idea that machines are edging closer to life. What happens when they start wanting things? Romulus, the runaway android, is more than a plot twist; he's a whole ethical hand grenade. There's something unsettling and sad about him, like a kid who outgrew his purpose. The bigger questions about work, identity, and control aren’t hammered home, but they hover in the background. It's sci-fi that’s self-aware without being smug.

The AndroBiotica File is a fun ride. It’s got brains, action, and just enough emotional punch to make you care what happens when the gears start turning in the wrong direction. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves near-future science fiction with a pulpy edge and a conspiratorial tone. Fans of Michael Crichton, Blade Runner, or even Altered Carbon will enjoy this story.

Alright, this book is seriously amazing! Picture the coolest tech out there, like robots that are the upgraded version of humans. And then, toss in a mystery that's so twisted it'll mess with your head. It's that good! That's 'The AndroBiotica File' in a nutshell. The story starts when crucial plans for making these high-tech androids get stolen, and two clever agents, Derrick Faulk, and Aurora Zolotov, have to race against time to find the thief and save the day.

Gittlin does this amazing thing where he makes you think about deep stuff while you're racing through the story, trying to figure out who stole the robot plans (don't worry, I won't spoil it!). Like, what does it even mean to be human when robots are walking, talking versions of us? And is messing with super-smart tech ever a good idea? Plus, Derrick and Aurora are like the ultimate crime-solving duo—they're super smart and super brave, and they bicker like an old married couple, which is hilarious. And let's not forget the romance—it's not all mushy-gushy, but it's there, adding a nice little layer to the story. The plot itself is a twisty maze that kept me guessing until the end. Just as I was about to conclude, another twist swapped the floor below me. And seriously, let's not even dive into the ending because, whoa, my mind is officially blown.

Lots of books and movies talk about robots and smart machines, but this one is special. It doesn't just show how things might get more advanced; it also looks at the right and wrong parts of it. The way we're going with technology today, what happens in the book could become true. This book gets your brain going. It's not just about the cool tech stuff; it makes you think about the necessary choices we've got to make. If you're into sci-fi that's not just about spaceships and lasers but something more, this is your go-to. But fair warning, your brain might feel a bit fried—in the best way, though!

I just finished reading "The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human" by David Gittlin, and it was pretty awesome! Many of you may have heard of Blade Runner 2049. This novel reminds me of the movie, where Artificial Intelligence (AI) became a part of humanity, as described in the book. The plot revolves around Derrick Faulk and Aurora Zolotov, two characters on a high-stakes journey to recover plans for an ultra-realistic android.

The protagonist, Derrick Faulk, is a Deputy First-Class Investigator in the National Science Service, tasked with ensuring that scientific and technological advancements don't lead to global destruction. The second main lead is Aurora Zolotov, Faulk's associate, who is described as captivating and other-worldly. Faulk struggles with his growing feelings for her despite her apparent, indifference. The story of the book appears familiar at first glance, but the author's vivid,fast-paced descriptions of future components carry the narrative along and make you hungry to solve the next mystery. I've watched a lot of films about artificial intelligence, but this book skillfully explores topics of technological advancement, science ethics, and the intricacies of human interactions inside a high-stakes investigative context. The story promises mystery and suspense, with a focus on the ethical concerns of developing life like androids and the emotional dynamics inside a high-pressure team of professionals.

The story is more than just a story; it dives deeply into philosophical aspects of our existence, replicating the thought-provoking topics present in Philip K. Dick's books. It makes us think about what it means to be human in a society where artificiality is becoming the new normal. If you appreciate sci-fi and stories about robots and secrets, you should read this book. It's a fast read, but it makes you consider what it means to be human and what the future may hold with modern technology.

The AndroBiotica File is a thrilling sci-fi novella that revolves around a missing file and the unexpected things that unravel along with it. Set in a world of advanced technology and interstellar travel, the tale follows two individuals who are assigned to solve the case and are caught up in the chaos that ensues as a result. Deputy First-Class Investigator Derrick Faulk, along with his partner Agent Aurora Zolotov, embark on an adventurous, investigative journey that defies time and space in search of a bureaucratic secret which induces intrigue, thrill and awe in the minds of the readers.

The story is told from the perspective of Agent Faulk in first-person narrative, with occasional chapters featuring the narration of another character. The characters' tone is intentionally devoid of strong emotions, creating a professional and futuristic ambience within the text. The author uses distinctive vocabulary irregularities to effectively differentiate and emphasize the unique features of the world he has created. As the characters embark on their quest to locate the elusive file, they uncover hidden facets of themselves and experience new emotions blossoming between them. Not only does the book offer an intriguing plot, but it also provides a thought-provoking commentary on the moral and ethical implications of advancing AI technology. As we move closer and closer to creating genuinely lifelike AI, the author prompts us to consider where we draw the line between progress and potential danger.

In conclusion, this book is an exhilarating and thought-provoking read, masterfully crafted to captivate a diverse audience. Despite its fast-paced nature, the work is meticulously detailed and doesn't leave the reader in the dark. Overall, it is a well-constructed book with a 5-star rating for anyone looking for an engaging and ponderous literary experience.

These Androids are part of a clandestine government experiment, and the implications of the pilfered AndroBiotica file falling into the wrong hands are potentially catastrophic.

As Faulk and Zolotov immerse themselves in the investigation, the stakes escalate, intensifying the race to retrieve the stolen file. The storyline unfolds with suspenseful twists as the agents follow diminishing clues, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. David Gittlin's novella, The AndroBiotica File, follows the narrative of Agent Derrick Faulk, a high-ranking investigator for the National Science Service. Along with a fellow agent, Aurora Zolotov, they race to find the person responsible for a technology breach. They speak with Adrien Mattias, the president of the AndroBiotica Corporation, and deepen their knowledge about AI, which they know as Alive Intelligence. When they seem to reach a roadblock in their investigation, Mattias reveals a secret that may help the agents solve their investigation. However, the secret and the surrounding circumstances are so deep they could change the way Agent Faulk and Agent Zolotov view their lives, time, and space.

David Gittlin takes sci-fi to a new level! With fantastical tech advancements, right down to color-changing walls and artificial intelligence that is human in almost every way, Gittlin enthralls his readers with his attention to detail. It's almost impossible to fully convey the full extent of advancements in a novella, but the author focuses on two important aspects of science and delivers an enhanced vision to his readers. Derrick and Aurora are layered characters, and the reader learns a lot about them from Derrick's thoughts and a brief flash into Aurora's mind. The agents are on a timeline to solve the crime, and the reader gets pulled in quickly, learning the reason for the specially emphasized words the author has italicized. The AndroBiotica File is a good selection for readers who enjoy science fiction with a hint of action and romance.

I liked this book a lot! The concept was so interesting and makes me wonder if that is what the future is heading toward or even wants. The idea is that human-like androids are being created. They are so human-like, that real humans don't recognize them. Talk about impressive technology. I thought the sci-fi aspect of the story was well thought out and presented. Nothing seemed too far fetched or impossible, but maybe that was the good tech/science talk from the master mind Adrien Mattias. Despite his geniusness, I understood Derrick's qualms about what Androids would me for the human race.

The story begins right in the middle of an investigation in which sensitive data has been stolen and Derrick Faulk has to find out who stole the info and why. Starting the story here set up everything nicely and let the plot unfold naturally. I like Derrick's partner Aurora (she was a nice surprise later in the story) and really liked the character Adrien and how someone so young had accomplished so much...though his ego clearly needs to be checked. I even liked the supposed "bad guy" Romulus, though I'm still not quite sure what he was hoping to accomplish. I thought the concept of other dimensions was great and totally wasn't expecting that and definitely didn't think Tier 2 would be what it was.

Overall, a fun, quick read that checked all the sci fi boxes for me and makes the reader question what "human" really means both for the humans and the androids who are supposed to simulate humans.

This is the second book by Gittlin that I’ve read and reviewed (the first being the Silver Sphere Trilogy), and once again I was taken on a fun and fast-paced read and adventure.

This book manages to capture the past, present and future with its timely narrative focusing on AI that has evolved from artificial to alive intelligence. This subtle change to the famous abbreviation that is becoming more prevalent in our lives today, is a huge motif that kept me thinking about the consequences of AI androids becoming sentient as I turned each page, especially the irony in the antagonist’s plan.

I felt that the story was slow to begin with, especially considering its page count, but once the story’s stakes were raised, so did its pacing. I appreciated a few twists that were thrown in here and there, with a good amount of hints thrown in as to not completely blindside the reader.
There were a few perspective changes which I appreciated as they gave this already complex story more depth, however I think they came too late in the book and should have been sprinkled more evenly throughout it.

Gittlin’s ability to write an understandable sci-fi story exploring complex yet relatable human and non-human concepts, made this book a quick but easy-to-follow and enjoyable read.

If you love thriller and spy stories, whether in book or cinematic form, and you also love SciFi and robots, you may enjoy The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human. David Gittlin is an author who doesn't write fluff around intense SciFi plots, rather he is methodic, goes into detail and his writing allows you to follow the investigation as if you were there in person.

The AndroBiotica File is a novella that tells the story of investigator Derrick Faulk and his partner Aurora Zolotov as they must find a missing file -- one that contains tech secerets -- from the AndroBiotica databases, a company that produces human-like androids. The investigation doesn't go as expected and suspense grows as we read.

My only disappointment is that I would have liked to see more of Aurora's POV and more involvement of her character and lines in the story. Also, it would be nice to see a female character who isn't necessarily beautiful and sexy but an ordinary woman like many out there.

Finally, if you come from YA novels, The AndroBiotica File may read harder for you. Give yourself time to read slowly to fully appreciate adult-level SciFi novels (and novellas).

Overall, a well-deserved 4.5 from me.

Captivating!

"The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human" by David Gittlin is a gripping dive into a future where the line between human and machine blurs into an electrifying mystery. Derrick Faulk, the sharp investigator, teams up with the captivating Aurora Zolotov to recover stolen plans for creating remarkably human-like Androids. With the government's clandestine experiments at stake, the stakes couldn't be higher. If these plans land in the wrong hands, it's an apocalypse on the horizon.

Gittlin weaves a thrilling tale where dwindling clues and escalating desperation steer the investigation into unforeseen territory. The duo of Faulk and Zolotov is as dynamic as it gets, making for a riveting read as they navigate this high-stakes world of AI and robotics.

What makes this book stand out is its peek into the future of technology and its impact on society. The tension between the potential advancements and the catastrophic consequences of misusing them keeps the pages turning. Gittlin doesn't just create a whodunit; he paints a vivid picture of a future that feels simultaneously thrilling and unnervingly possible.

Futuristic AI Thriller

The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human by David Gittlin is a futuristic sci-fi novella focusing on Derrick Faulk and Aurora Zolotov, government agents tasked with uncovering the person responsible for stealing top-secret plans for advanced androids. If the plans fall into the wrong hands, it could prove dangerous.

This was a quick read, one that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a blend of science fiction and thriller, with a story that's fast-paced, well-written, and with likable characters. The suspense and plot twists are enough to keep you turning the pages as the story unfolds. Though the story focuses on the two main characters, it is told from Derrick's perspective. It would have been nice to see it from Aurora's point of view, too.

I love how the author tackles the issue of AI, considering it's a hot topic at the time of writing this review. I think the author paints a realistic picture of the future of AI, including some of the ethical issues we may face.

The droids project belongs to the government and their disappearance spells disaster especially if they fall into the wrong hands. Quite a ride

Detective Faulk and his partner Auora are given the case of a missing file. In particular, the file contains the build plans for the near human androids by the successful AndroBiotica company. Having gone missing just short of a product launch cycle, the company and the government will do almost anything to get these files back. Faulk hits roadblock after roadblock though and need to switch up his tactics to crack this case. I've read a few books by this author, and as with the other books, the world building is fantastic, the character development is detailed and the dialogue is witty. I liked the various twists and the ending was well done in closing off all plot lines.

“ …travelling interdimensionally on monster motorcycles.”

The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human by David Gittlin is a quick read sci-fi novel where the main characters are secret agents that are trying to save the world from an AI fiasco by going interdimensional travel. The story gives me a “Fringe” vibe with the interdimensional travel. The author painted a vivid imagery of each scene so you can easily imagine the characters actions. I would say it would greatly benefit the book if we can observe something more unique in every dimension and maybe work on the superficial characteristics of the hero and the lovely arm candy. The characters have great potential just needed to be explored further. It has very short chapters so you can finish this book in one sitting.

The AndroBiotica File by de David Gittlinnis, a sci-fi novella that kept me reading for hours. This story merges 3 different genres to make a magnificent final result. Based on a crime story, with a good amount of sci-fi, and a touch of technothriller; I loved the book. Thanks to the writing style of the author and his detailed descriptions, I could feel like part of the scenes. The Androbiotica File: Nearly Human, by David Gittlin, deals with the familiar literary trope of advanced AI infiltrating society in various ways. The action follows detectives Derrick Falk and Aurora Zolotov as they attempt to recover a file that details how to create lifelike androids.

This novel is a touch of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes crossed with the Blade Runner movies. It’s an immersive experience and one the author manages to flesh out with vivid detail and several suspenseful scenarios. The central theme, which is that technology is a Pandora’s box that humanity should only open with care, manages to be simultaneously timely and timeless.

"The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human" is a novel written by David Gittlin, where the readers will follow Derrick Faulk and Aurora Zolotov, to recover stolen plans for the creation of human androids by the AndroBiotica company. Despite the many issues our characters encounter, they will not stop until getting those plans.
This was a great sci-fi story! The author's descriptions were on point! But the thing that stood out the most for me was the development of the characters, even though I didn't appreciate Aurora's ending; I expected a better one for her. This was a great book! This is the perfect read if you enjoy adventures, futuristic scenes, and robots!

Timely, well written

The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human gives us a peek at what it means to have intelligent and human-like AI living amongst us. Agent Faulk and Zolotov are tasked with stopping a rogue AI with complex human emotions and intellect. The story was engaging, thought-provoking, and even gave us a taste of romance. I like the twists and turns, though I wish things had turned out differently for Aurora. The story left me eager for more, yet satisfied with the conclusion. I would recommend this book to friends and lovers of science fiction.

“The AndroBiotica File: Nearly Human” is a fast-paced, futuristic novel where Androids have become a reality. While the characters are debating when and how best to integrate them into society, a file for their development is stolen. Two agents must travel to another dimension to retrieve the file and risk an AI catastrophe coming to light. Although the action and science was entertaining, I felt like there could have been a bit more character development shown versus just told. Overall though, this dramatic mystery, was a quick read that would be enjoyable for sci-fans.

The book offers an enthralling glimpse into the future, exploring the implications of AI and robotics for both dynamic individuals like Derrick Faulk and Aurora Zolotov and society as a whole. The novel blends elements of mystery, science fiction and even ethical exploration, creating a narrative that not only captivates with its plot twists but also prompts us readers to ponder the potential implications of rapidly advancing technology. I recommend reading it!

The AndroBiotica File is another refreshing novella by David Gittlin. It is brilliantly written and I could not put it down for a minute. One of the closing sentences really touched me: “Love and hope spring eternal in the human heart”. Like the author, I also trust that this fact will light the way for a better future.

It goes into thought-provoking themes such as ethics, identity, and the morality of pushing the boundaries of human potential through technology. It's a must-read for fans of thrillers and science fiction as it is full of suspense throughout the book!
