I really enjoyed this book. Central to the idea of the book is obviously very useful mind mapping, but I also found this to be a comprehensive capture of every facet of life that you face dealing with symptoms of ADHD. From executive functioning and emotional regulation to overwhelm and time management it switches from coping with these issues to building resilience and creating healthy habits! You can dip in and out of whichever chapter is relevant to you at the time you need it. I'll be referring back to this all the time for help!
“Mind Mapping for Men with Adult ADHD” has invaluable tools and insights. As a parent of a high schooler with ADHD, I am continually looking for information on the subject. I appreciate and could tell that this book is written with the insider’s eyeglass. It identifies relatable struggles well and also gives some pretty impacting positive outlooks, easy suggestions, and simple exercises. Well written.
Not my cup of tea. I read maybe 20% of the book and completely lost interest.
It could be me of course. Ihaven't seen how the book has been rated by others but no this was not for me.
I guess I should point out that I DO NOT at all relate to the "negative talk, negative feelings, depression-like symptoms" many peeps with ADHD seem to have. I've been diagnosed with ADHD and I think my diagnosis is correct but as far as I'm concerned it ONLY manifests itself in the difficulty to stick to tasks I find boring or uninteresting, and the difficulty to start tasks that aren't super interesting to me where completion isn't outrageously simple. Do I get pissed at myself in the moment, yes sure... but I immediately move on and just cannot relate at all to any negative feelings so I find a lot of ADHD material that seems to insist that I must have self-loathing feelings to be ... you know boring an uninteresting... ... I mean you read the first sentence about ... I read about 20% and gave up, right? To be clear that's not my typical experience with books about ADHD or other subjects. I've happily finished reading a lot of books. And yes if a book loses my interest I do NOT have that sunk-cost thing about "I've already invested 20 hours they'll go to waste if I don't finish it" ... if a book loses me I drown it in the bathtub instantaneously and move on... I have maybe 20-25 years of life left if I'm lucky and thousands of books I want to read so... NO MERCY :P
if you have been diagnosed with ADHD this book is a must read
As an adult male I was diagnosed with ADHD. It’s been pretty obvious all of my life that I’ve had ADHD but getting a formal diagnosis has helped me to understand myself better.
Getting the diagnosis was probably the easiest part. However as an adult male I have found it hard to find resources that are helpful. Most resources seem to be designed for parents with children children that have ADHD so that parents can help their children. This book as well written for adults with ADHD.
while the title includes the words mind mapping, this book is not just about mind mapping. Jimmy Taylor provide some examples of some fantastic tools in the later chapters of the book. The tools don’t really have anything to do with mind mapping but have been a massive eye-opener for me.
There’s not enough words to come up with how amazing this book was it is truly transform me into somebody else thank you so much for doing this you save me and made me feel like there is support
I never knew all the different types of ADHD. Amazing! This is not a one size fits all book and it really gives you an opportunity to assess and reopen your world to a better place. Big bravo!
This book zeroes in on the frustrations of living with ADHD as an adult male. It speaks directly to the male psyche, laying aside judgment. The exercises are not complicated. They could help any ADHD man stay on top of his daily schedule. Recommend.
Helps with the constant battles of fighting to stay positive and struggles of everyday life with ADHD. I recommend this book even for people that don’t have ADHD or have loved ones that do.
The book has lots of useful info on handling someone with ADHD and various techniques to execute brain exercises that help people with ADHD.I love the elaborate explanation in this book.
Some of the exercises work better than others. The three-column method was particularly helpful for me to keep negative thoughts from spiraling out of control.
