A specialist in European colonisation and de-colonisation and British foreign policy in the nineteenth century, Muriel Evelyn Chamberlain was emeritus professor of history at the University of Wales, Swansea. She earned her B.A. as St. Hilda's College, Oxford in 1954, her M.A. in 1958, and her D.Phil. in 1961.
