A dead woman checked in at the bed and breakfast... it didn’t sit well with the other guests.
When the wealthy and notorious Lorraine Baker shows up for a room at Avery's charming Mountain Acres Bed and Breakfast, it seems like an ordinary reservation. But by morning, Lorraine is dead, and though it appears she died in her sleep - the monkey thinks otherwise.
As the mystery piles up faster than the fluffy pancakes at breakfast, Avery, along with her sticky-fingered, kleptomaniac Capuchin monkey, Ali, digs into the details of Lorraine's life.
Fake IDs, pending divorce papers, and a stockpile of pilfered pills led Avery to believe Lorraine wasn’t who she claimed to be.
With the unbeknownst help of her detective friend, Chris, Avery sets out to unravel the threads and reveal the true identity of the guest who checked in but never checked out.
I enjoyed reading about how the amateur sleuth, Avery, inserted herself into the investigation of the death of a guest in her bed & breakfast. Although intended to be a stand alone, I did feel like I was missing out due to the many references to a previous murder and the connection between Avery and detective Chris. The character wasn’t just Uber focused on the murder as she is an artist, has some best friends, Elle and Jessica, employees and, of course, Ali the capuchin monkey. I found it a bit cheesy in places but that is typical of cozy mysteries and was not over the top. The story was well written with a clear plot line that kept me guessing about the whole picture. Would recommend.

This books takes place in a beautiful small town. The author did a nice job of placing us in the setting with her words. Like Avery, I do suspected the unintended guest would bring nothing but trouble but at triple the rate does that translate to triple the trouble. For Avery, getting into trouble seems to have become her norm. She seems to have a knack for finding bodies but when they lead to meeting a cute cop, I guess her story is not all misadventures. Avery was a well developed character and not one I would traditionally think of to find the killer. However, she not only found the killer but put herself in grave danger to do so. I suspect that more stories will come from the bed and breakfast as Avery continues her story. We need more about her painting and how that plays into her story.
Speaking of the killers. I had to laugh when the killer said you are going to tie but at least your last drink will be a good bottle of wine. LOL. Chris may not have been as accepting of Avery's theory but he still came through at the end. That says our author designed him to be more than a hot cop, instead he is a hot cop with character.
Finally, you can't review a book with an animal without mentioning the animal. Ali was cute and I honestly never heard of a monkey with PTSD. Our author made sure even the monkey got his own story. Hope we see more adventure with this crew and their sidekick.

As I missed reading book one of Peyton Stone's Bed and Breakfast Series, I will have to remedy that mistake. The characters are appealing and well thought out. The story is well constructed. Along with a charming local officer/detective, Avery has a pet monkey, essential to the plot, who steals things and hides them in his special hideouts. Surprises and red herrings are sprinkled in when you least expect them. It's a enjoyable cozy and I recommend it highly. I'm a member of the ARC team and have voluntarily left my honest review.
Avery is about to close the front door on her bed and breakfast , having had a trying day. One of her guests , a fussy gentleman insisted on being moved rooms as there’s a draught. Then there’s a last minute guest she wasn’t expecting, although she does know who she is ,Lorraine Baker , her and her husband Richard are well know and are probably the richest in town which is making Avery ponder why this woman has turned up with a rather large suitcase to her humble establishment when there’s a high end hotel the woman could have stayed at. Ali the capuchin is up to his tricks and has a stash of treasures in the hiding place he thinks Avery knows nothing about. When Lorraine is found dead there’s an interesting investigation. Its a veritable web of evidence and misdirection. Whodunnit and why. Delving into a chequered past throws up clues too if you know where to look for them. And what is that smell , air fresheners aren’t masking it so some investigation by Avery to deal with that mystery too. Beautifully crafted writing with great characters , super descriptions and laugh out loud scenes . Totally immersive and highly entertaining read. I read an advance copy of this book and my review is in my own words and voluntary
What a fun book I enjoyed the story it had lots of twists and turns. Avery owns the Mountain Acres Bed and Breakfast and a woman shows up at closing to rent a room. Avery recognizes the woman as being the wife of a very rich man and wonders why she is at the bed and breakfast when she owns a manor and is very well off. She is found dead the next day and another guest seems to know who she is and is now missing. Avery and Chris the local Police officer get involved in solving the case although it looks as if she died under normal circumstances. Avery wants her place of business cleared of any wrong doing and her mischievous monkey Ali is getting into everything and stealing sweet treats and hiding them. Very interesting book I loved the story and the characters in the book and I recommend it.
Mountain Acres Bed & Breakfast seems to be a delightful place to stay, except for the dead body in Room Four! The big issue to solve is why did the richest woman in town check in for one night and why is she now lying dead in the B&B when her mansion is only twenty minutes away? Detective Chris Killian starts his official investigation, while Avery Jenson, owner of the B&B, sets off on her own, frequently with some help from her Capuchin monkey. The setting, characters and dialogue are perfect for bringing you into the story. Twists, turns and red herrings abound and the conclusion is unexpected yet satisfying. This is a great read. I received this book as an ARC team member and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Avery, the owner of Mountain Acres B&B, has an unusual late-night guest who ends up paying triple the going rate just to stay the night. Oddly, the woman is a rich, socialite who lives in the local area. Even stranger, Avery discovers her lifeless body in the morning. Detective Chris arrives to begin the official investigation but Avery and her kleptomaniac Capuchin monkey decide they need to find out the truth for themselves. Everything is not what it seems and after sifting through several suspects, they finally find out the truth. This is an entertaining cozy mystery with a trail that was fairly easy to follow with a not-so-unexpected ending. I enjoyed it.

A cozey murder mystery from a small town mountain range at a B&B with a curious owner and a cleptomaniac monkey for a companion makes for an entertaining murder mystery location , throw in an over sharing detective and a body found dead in the B&B and there's where it all begins .Avery the owner of the B&B and getting tomonkey are colorful characters along with the charming detective Chris that has difficultly keeping evidence and information under wraps from Avery. They will draw you into this cozey ,while the plots ,intrigue of deception, betrayal and murder will have you turning page after page until you've reached its unexpected and climatic conclusion. Acquire " Mischief, Murder and Monkey Mayhem " for hours of intriguing and enjoyable entertainment. Kat
There is nothing like having a dead body turn up and having way too many suspects.
I enjoyed this book. I don’t believe I read the first book but I didn’t feel like that was an issue. I loved Avery’s relationship with the detective. They’re always making sarcastic jabs at each other. lol. And the monkey is adorable! Who doesn’t love a klepto monkey?
The story moved along nicely and made sense. The characters were well developed and mostly likable. It’s also nice that Avery wasn’t obsessed with solving the murder. She took time for her hobby, her business and her friends. She’s a well rounded amateur sleuth.

This was lotsa fun and I'm so glad the series came back to Kindle Unlimited so I could finally borrow this second book. It seems like it’s been so long I read the first book. I love the chemistry between Avery and her detective friend (just a friend, so she says lol) Chris. He came in very handy once more when she required some killer assistance.
I was pretty sure I knew fairly early on whodunit and I figured it right. No amount of hollering at Avery on my part stopped her from doing something stupid—I was glad to know I was in good company when Chris told her the same thing lol. Can't wait to read the next book and see what that little stinker of a monkey (makes me think of Dexter in the museum movies lol) gets into next. And what could be next for Chris and his very eager sidekick who swears she doesn’t wanna be a cop and prefers running her B&B? Hoping to borrow the next book and find out soon.

The culprits poison her. She gets away from them and starts out through the woods. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This in no way affects my opinion of this book..
Avery ran a bed and breakfast and Police officer Chris Killian was her friend who investigated a wealthy woman found dead at the B&B. Avery’s capuchin had stolen a wallet that she found in his stash. Looking at a hidden compartment she found a lot of IDs in different names and states but all with the face of the dead woman. Avery could not help getting involved in the case, greatly irritating Chris.
Very interesting book. Had me hooked right up to the end, very suspenseful, I never guessed the ending. Very enjoyable read
I was given a free copy of Mischief, Murder and Monkey Mayhem for my fair and honest opinion and review.
Mischief, Murder and Monkey Mayhem is book 2 in the Bed and Breakfast Series by Peyton Stone. I believe that this cozy mystery has very good characters with a good mystery. Avery and her monkey sidekick, Ali, operate a Bed and Breakfast. However, Avery was not expecting to find dead body in one of her rooms. Detective Chris Killian is investing the murder and he tries, unsuccessfully to keep Avery out if his case. I found the author does a wonderful job of leading me through the clues along with a few surprises. I think that this cozy should be on everyones TBR least… it is that fantastic. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Full disclosure: I've not read book one in this series. That said, I really did enjoy this book. Avery, a B&B owner, has the bad luck of someone dying at the hotel. Avery doesn't feel right about all of the events and becomes certain that the socialite who died, didn't die a natural death. Police Detective Chris isn't quite sure what to think and must find proof of natural death or not, either way. There are several suspects in this book and people with reason to want the socialite gone. But finding who the real culprit is might end Avery up in some hot water. This book was given to me for free and I am leaving my own, honest review.
Avery runs a B&B and is used to unusual things, but when the wife if the richest man In the area is asking for a room at 11 pm even she is taken by surprise.
It doesn't end there because the next morning this guest is found dead in her bed.
Avery and Chris, the local police detectiv, find her sudden death disturbing and both start an unofficial investigation.
Murder or natural death, that is the question. Ali, Avery's Capuchin likes to take things and he sheds involuntarily light on that one.
After Avery ask too many questions her life is in great danger and she escape death only just.
I loved this second book of the Monkey series! I read the first book and loved how well the characters are developed in this second book. The mystery was intriguing, I was invested and eager to find out who-done-it with the fun, overly curious main character, Avery, and her kleptomaniac monkey, Ali. The soft slow-burn romance is so sweet and is building perfectly, I cannot wait to see that relationship grow over hopefully, more books. Mischief, Murder & Monkey Mayhem is the perfect cozy mystery I highly recommend for any cozy mystery book lover.
I received an ARC of this book and leave a review willingly!
This is the second book in this series; I haven’t read the first book yet, but this stands alone very well. I love the small town setting and the bed and breakfast. Avery is a great main character, as she runs the charming bed and breakfast and also tries to solve any mystery that comes along. There’s an unfortunate death at the bed and breakfast and plenty of clues that something is very off. Was it murder? Ali, Avery’s kleptomaniac domesticated monkey, is a surprising help as she tries to assist the police. I can definitely recommend this book and I’m eager to go back and read the first book now too. I was provided an arc, but these opinions are my own.
This book was a joy to read. I really like the B and B owner cum sleuth Avery and am enjoying her burgeoning relationship with detective Chris Killian.
The pace of the book was fast and the story was unpredictable and, therefore, really exciting. I made a mental note to myself, don't ever keep a capuchin monkey as a pet! As adorable as they are, they are worse than a pair of two year old twins!
The book was everything that you expect in a classic 'Whodunit' with the extra 'Feel good factor'.
I look forward to reading another whodunit with Avery.

A murder mystery full of twists and turns, along with a kleptomaniac capuchin monkey for giggles! Avery owns Mountain Acres Bed and Breakfast in Brooke Acres, NC, near Boone. When a local woman who lives not far from the B&B shows up asking for a room late one night, and is found dead the next morning, Avery tells herself she has to investigate, much to Detective Chris Killian’s dismay! Great characters, a mansion with slightly eccentric wealthy inhabitants and the Ali the capuchin monkey make for fun reading. I received a free advance copy of this book and write this review voluntarily.
Very good. I really enjoyed the book and Peyton’s writing drew me along at a fast pace. I also learnt a lot about small town USA (I’m a European) most of which I did not know. The monkey was a wonderful adjunct and I can well see why the detective (Chris) wants to include him on the force. Avery’s girl friends were also tremendous fun and I loved the budding romance.
The reason I gave it four not five stars was I guessed who did it too early and the end struck me as a little too inevitable but nonetheless it was a fabulous read and I’m so glad I got to review. Thank you.
4-1/2 stars. 2nd in series. Avery is running her B&B, with help from her adorable kleptomaniac monkey Ali. Wealthy Lorraine Baker checks in unexpectedly late at night, but doesn't check out as she's found dead in bed the next morning. Avery feels uneasy about the circumstances & starts snooping, despite being discouraged by Detective Chris. With family issues, missing medication & jewelry, & fake IDs, there's definitely something amiss. I received an ARC copy from author & am voluntarily reviewing.
Avery runs the Mountain Acres B&B and had a late night lodger one night that paid triple the normal room rate. She just happened to be married to the richest man in the area. Seemed strange that she had shown up at the B&B but a full house is a good thing. Found dead in her room the next morning, things get a little strange. Ali, Avery's monkey, had stolen things again, this time from the dead woman's room. Chris the detective in town is working on the case and Avery keeps getting involved causing lots of drama. Good story with lots of twists.
Peyton Stone always writes a winner and this does not disappoint. Avery owns and runs the Mountain Acres Bed and Breakfast. Late in the evening as Avery is locking the door on her B&B, Lorriane Baker (the richest woman in town); wants to rent a room for only one night. Avery wonders why, when she owns a mansion down the street? In the morning at check out time, Lorriane has not checked out. As Avery checks on her, Lorriane is found dead in her bed. Has she died in her sleep, or is it something more sinister? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters.
Avery the owner of Mountain Acres Bed and Breakfast is busy with her work and her pet capuchin monkey “Ali” is upto a lot of tricks. Samuel Vanson comes as a guest to the inn. Then Lorraine Baker comes wanting a room for the night and the next day she is dead. Detective Chris Killian is in charge of the case. Samuel vanishes and it looked like it is related to Lorraine's death. There is a lot of humour with the mischief of Ali. A intriguing read to the finish. I enjoyed this read which I received via booksirans. I recommend this book to other readers.
Mistchief Murder & Monkey Mayhem written by Peyton Stone. Wow I couldn’t get enough of this book. From start to finish was WoW 😮. I didn’t want it to end. There were twists & turns, murder and mayhem in this book I thought I had who had did but no I only had part of the answer. This was a great book and I really suggest you get this book. I totally enjoyed it. Yes I have the book. And have to look for book one and want book 3 if it’s done. Go get the book you will love it.
Avery owns the Mountain Acres B&B. A guest dies. Avery has an overly-curious nature and can't resist to investigate the case herself. He rmonkey Ali provides some clues. This is a fun, entertaining and easy to read story with likeable characters. I just couldn't stop reading. I didn't read the first book but that was no problem at all to be able to follow the storyline. I received an advance review copy for free and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.
This was an interesting mystery to try to solve. Of course, I kept guessing without luck until the very end. Avery puts herself in danger to investigate the rich Baker family for possible clues surrounding Lorraine's death. There were some very intense moments that had me at the edge of my seat. Ali is one busy monkey and into everything. He made me laugh frequently at his antics. The ending was super sweet. Check it out!!!!!
This is my first read by this author and it was everything I expected. I have found a new cozy author that I will seek out to read. The main character Avery is a charming and intelligent owner of a Bed & Breakfast in a beautiful small town. Add in her pet monkey and a bit of romance it made for a quick and fun read. The author keeps her plot moving and didn’t make it feel hurried at the end. Upon completion of this book I immediately started another on from the same series.
Awesome book! I absolutely love that Avery has a monkey - it's great. Rich lady dies at Avery's B&B, Avery starts to investigate and of course, her sidekick monkey is by her side helping. The police, Avery's "friend" Chris comes thru for her. I really enjoyed this book, lots of interesting people, twists and turns on finding out who the murderer is. Peyton Stone is one of the new authors that I will follow from now on, is on my got to read list.
