Name’s Chuck. Not sure if you’ve heard of me, but you will. This is my story. I was bowling when the Gamemaker came and turned our perfectly normal world into an apocalyptic hellscape. Now, I’m going to have to pick a class, pick a crew, and pick a fight if I have any chance of surviving this new world. And what better way to build a better me than by picking all the skills. That’s right. We’re going unspecialized. Pretty special, huh?Well, we’re about to find out just how many skills one man can have… or die trying. Literally. But if I win, I hear there’s pizza, so at least I have that going for me.
A great idea that was ruined by childish writing. Understand that this is just my opinion and you might enjoy it. I liked the idea of being able to do any skill. The ability to loot everything. I thought that this would be more of a solo adventure, however for no reason the MC just started picking up monster chicks and adding them to his party. The conversations between characters came off as awkward and strange. I just wasn't able to enjoy the story. I posted a few mistakes on Goodreads. I won't be looking for it on Royalroad.
3/10 it's a readable book if the blurb is to your liking.
System Manipulation definitely wasn't the kind of LitRPG story I like to read. First off, there's harem aspects (I've grown to intensely dislike harem related stories over the years), earth being integrated into a system (I generally like those kinds of stories, but this one just didn't work for me), and loads of adventuring, puzzles, and levelling. Normally, all things I really enjoy in a LitRPG adventure, but in this case, they just didn't gel well. I couldn't bring myself to care if the main character lived or died (though it's obvious he would live), every time you turn around, there's another animal girl joining his ever growing harem, Cats, possoms, centaurs and I don't even know what else. Admittedly, the story wasn't terrible, but it really didn't grab me and draw me in like most LitRPG tales tend to do. Obviously, your mileage may vary, but this one was a bust for me. I won't be reading anymore in this series.
Though nothing groundbreaking as far as player leveling and skills, I did enjoy the pace of this book. You jump right into the action from the start of the book and the dialog between the MC and Gary makes foe some food laughs. Will definitely keep an eye out for a second book.
System Manipulation is a good starting book for a new series. It has an interesting class progression with a cool skill system. The plot is pretty standard, find monsters and kill them, so I hope it gets more involved in future volumes. A good light read.
This was a fun read, way over the top but very very entertaining. It leave you wanting more, as it take you to another place and world. If you want to escape our world and live in an adventurous place, then this is for you. Looking forward for the next instalment.
Totally enjoyed this book, has some areas which repeat but story line is solid, characters are different which is great. Would like there to be a next book as follow up.
I enjoyed reading this book and I recommend this book to anyone who likes LitRPG and progression type of books with apocalypse themes with lots of action
