5 stars.
Madeleine was on her way to Paris for Christmas to meet up with her sister but a cloud of vulcanic ashes makes it impossible for planes to take off and so, for her to leave London. Alone and thinking about the one-year anniversary of her friend's death, she meets Julian, a cab driver, who's gonna be the one person keeping her company during this hard time and taking her all across London.
As a Christmas romance lover, I couldn't wait to read this book! I really enjoyed Madeleine and Julian's journey.
Just imagine being in a cab with a charming British driver that takes you around the British capital to do some sightseeing, chatting about historical and architectural heritage of London's most famous places and buildings or even doing Christmas shopping and meeting his closest friends in a pub! Dreamy right?! But grief gets in the way... This topic is one of the most important elements of the novel and it was really well brought and Jacquelyn Middleton
dealt with this difficult and touchy subject admirably. "Grieving is a deeply personal thing."
London is a city I'm dying to see again, mostly during Christmas. I was transported there without moving from my bed. The atmosphere described, as we wander in the streets with the characters, is magical. I learnt and discovered a bunch of stuff with the depiction made of the monuments and with some historical facts or cultural allusions, it was so enchanting.
So if you're like me and you love Christmas romances, London, caring men (please somebody gets me a Julian!), then this book's for you! I'm sure you'll enjoy it too, especially if you get comfortable with your favorite blanket, a cup of hot cocoa and a lit wood stove, plus your favorite Christmas playlist!
"Grief shifts and changes, but it never goes away, not completely. Like love, grief lasts forever. You will find new ways to cope with it, to live with it, but it won't magically disappear. Grief will always be in your heart, just like love."
