Winter Break Up

Rate this book
Going home for my last winter break of college had the same feel as the year my parents told me Santa was fictional; the daunting real world loomed too close without a childish safety net.

Working on our family Christmas tree farm is supposed to be a final, blissful reprieve before adulthood. Or it would have been, if my brother’s best friend didn’t return for his first festive season in our hometown in almost four years.

Why did Mercer Russell stay away in the first place? Oh, well that would be because I broke his heart. High school sweethearts never last, or so they say, so I destroyed us before long distance and university drama ever could.

Now that the soccer star destined for one of the best professional teams in the country is home for one last holiday hoorah, it’s clear I’m still on his naughty list … and not in the good way. Between hauling Douglas firs, helping families select their perfect tree, and assisting my mom on the register, Mercer hasn’t lost any love for those he grew up with. Except I might as well be a lump of coal with the way he glowers at me.

With the past lurking around every corner and our futures uncertain, giving into the burning attraction that could torch a row of spruces would be the worst idea ever. Then again, a fling under the mistletoe might be just the closure we need to extinguish this spark for good.

After all, it would take flying sleigh-level magic to turn a cuffing season hookup into a healing happily ever after … right?

Winter Break Up is a cute, new, holiday romance read from Carrie Aarons! This is a second chance romance between former highschool sweethearts who are both back home for the winter break and working at her family’s Christmas tree farm together! It’s also a brother’s best friend romance.

“We all have that one regret, the one who got away, the one who we thought would be everything, and it didn’t work out. She’s mine.”

Mercer has worked the Christmas tree farm every year, it always allowed him to be close to his best friend Charlie and Charlie’s sister Emily, who he always crushed on growing up. Emily and Mercer even dated in highschool and he thought their future was just getting started, when she suddenly broke up with him after graduation. Now it’s 3 years later and both are back home for the holiday, winter break from college. Charlie begged Mercer to spend one last hurrah working his family’s Christmas tree farm together before real life, post-college sets in. Which means Mercer and Emily are around one another a ton!

This was super cute, I liked how they all grew up together and we hear about (and feel) their connection and history without needing flashbacks. Mercer is on his way to be a soccer star and has always thought of Emily as “the one who got away”. Emily is dealing with anxiety attacks and I liked how she opens up the communication with Mercer about the meds she takes and how she feels. His relationship with his grandpa, who raised him, was so sweet too! Definitely recommend this read for the holiday season!

I received an ARC, all thoughts in this review are my own! Winter Break Up is coming to KU on November 17, 2023!

Carrie Aarons' newest release incorporates everything to make it an honest and heartwarming Christmassy read. Winter Break Up is a second-chance, brother's best-friend romance between two former High School sweethearts. TW for depression, anxiety/panic attacks, and parent neglect.

Mercer and Emily are back in town for winter break, helping at her family's Christmas tree farm. Mercer has done so for many years, allowing him to spend time with his best friend Charlie and Emily. These two even dated during High School until she ended things out of fear that a long-distance relationship wouldn't last anyway. It's their last winter break from College, and Emily and Mercer haven't seen each other in over three years. Charlie begs his friend to spend one last season at the tree farm for a final hurrah.

One thing I enjoyed most about this book is that they all grew up together, and as readers we hear about (and feel) their connection and history as the story unfolds. As the two protagonists find themselves in each other's proximity, they are bound to interact with one another. While he has been living with the heartbreak, Emily has been living with the regret. She also struggles to find her balance after an unexpected event. The way she opens up to Mercer and how both of them deal with the topics is so lovely. They are both sincere and open with each other, which helps the reader connect with them and understand their actions a little better. Aarons always has a very mindful and welcoming writing style when it comes to delicate topics, something I like most about her books.

It's surely not your typical cute and cosy Christmassy read, but I think it still captures the essence of these books – the warmth, the feels and the atmosphere. Mercer and Emily are two great main characters, and I also absolutely loved Charlie. The setting was quite nice and definitely brought some winter vibes into my home. I hoped it would be a bit longer, but it's still a great read.

I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an enjoyable read - fun and steamy.

When Emily Palmer broke Mercer Russell's heart before they went to separate colleges, she broke her own. She thought it was for the best as he was set for soccer stardom, while she was just a smalltown girl. Three years later, they're in the same place for Christmas winter break, and they are faced with the reality that their chemistry is very much alive and their feelings refuse to be tamped down. A Christmas fling seems like the best idea for Emily, if that was all she could have of him. It was the best idea for Mercer, if it gave him the chance to convince Emily of forever with him. However, Emily's recent past is a clear obstacle for Mercer, whilst Mercer's future is what keeps Emily from pushing for more.

I didn't find myself as hooked into this story as I have been with some of this author's previous works, but it was still enjoyable nonetheless. Both Emily and Mercer trod carefully for fear of upsetting the balance of their fling but there was no denying their history, their connection, and their fierce attraction and enduring love for one another. I loved Mercer for his good heart and loyalty. Emily understood him, having grown up with him, and the decision she made at 18 was one she regretted deeply. However, maybe they needed that time apart to realise that they once they were back together, they were in it for the long haul.

(I received an ARC for this book)

Trigger Warnings include:
mention of parent neglect/child abandonment, mention of cheating (not between MCs), a focus on struggling with mental health including depression and on page anxiety/panic attacks

High school sweethearts reuniting on the family tree farm during Christmas?! And make it so much spicier than Hallmark?! Yes, please, and thank you! Mercer is back in his hometown for the last Christmas before graduating college to help his best friend’s family with their Christmas tree farm. Which means seeing his best friend’s sister…who just happens to be his high school sweetheart. The girl who broke his heart, the girl who got away, the girl he is STILL a goner for. But he isn’t the only one who has spent the last 3 years unable to move on. While he’s been living with the heartbreak, Emily has been living with the regret. After an unexpected life event derails Emily’s self confidence and her mental health, more than ever, she doesn’t feel good enough for Mercer. But he won’t let that stop him from pouring his heart out to her on a silver platter. Things between them are fragile, delicate. Her doubts become his, their inner battles aligning. Truly a heartbreaking (and so very realistic) journey balancing mental health and love.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “I’m not messing around when it comes to you.”
• “I’m not going anywhere.”
• “I’ve always been in awe of you.”
• “He sure is gorgeous, especially when he’s pretending not to be in love with you.”
• “I can’t seem to stay away from you.”
• “It’s been years since I’ve eaten and I’m fucking starving.”
• “Fuck, that’s the best feeling in the world.”
• “Do you understand how I’m drawn to every part of you?”
• “Those fucking sounds you make drive me crazy.”
• “For the record, you have always belonged here.”
• “I might just make you scream my name in the bathroom if you keep taunting me like this.”
• “I’m unworthy of even being in your presence half the time.”
• “Only ever you.”
• “I am always going to love you. Everything else, we’ll figure out.”
• “It’s always been you. Will always be you.”

Not Carrie’s typical book! I was so excited to see Carrie giving us a holiday book, but for some reason this one fell a little short for me. Mercer and Emily were high-school sweethearts, dealing with the drama surrounding their relationship in the beginning because Mercer was so close to Emily’s family because he is her brother’s best friend. But when college hit and they decided to go to different schools, Emily broke up with him because she thought that they couldn’t handle the distance combined with Mercer’s upcoming professional sport career. Everything changes when Mercer gets hurt his senior year and Emily develops anxiety through a recent breakup. I was slightly confused with this couple – I wish I would’ve got more of a backstory on them, but in the end it was an enjoyable read.

Second chance and Christmas romance wrapped up in a bow!

A second chance romance between former high school sweethearts is one of my absolute favorite tropes. This one was so dang cute! They are both home for winter break working at a Christmas tree farm. The setting couldn’t have been more perfect for these two.

I really enjoyed listening to how these two grew up together and the history they have, what brought them to the place they’re in, and watching them find their second chance at a happily ever after. It was such a wonderful read for the Christmas season!

Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.

A Christmas love story

Oh I loved these characters!

Mercer is trying to become a professional soccer player after his knee injury. Before this happens he goes back to him hometown one last time for nostalgia. Then he runs into the girl who broke his heart (who he never stopped loving her).

Emily is working on becoming a nurse, she is working on keeping her anxiety down. Then while she is working on her family Tree Farm she see the man who’s heart she broke, working too.

Oh the unspoken feelings they still have for each other had me reading this book in two days!

Mercer Russell is back in his hometown, and he’s helping out at his best friend’s family’s Christmas tree farm, just like he always did when he was younger. His best friend, Charlie, is there, of course. But Charlie’s sister, Emily, is also there. That’s a problem for Mercer because he and Emily had dated in high school, only for her to break up with him before college, breaking his heart.

Now these two are spending time together again, and there’s no denying that there’s still something between them. But Emily is afraid. She has anxiety, especially after her college ex cheated on her. And she doesn’t know what the future holds with Mercer being a soccer star. So she agrees to just have a winter fling with Mercer.

This was such a cute and angsty winter romance. Mercer was so sweet with Emily, and it was clear that he had never gotten over her. Normally I don’t like second chance romance when the MC has been sleeping around after the break up, but in this case, they both did, so I didn’t mind. Also, the chemistry between Mercer and Emily was so strong.

I thought Emily’s anxiety was written well. And I loved how caring and understanding Mercer was when it came to everything Emily was battling. Yes, it was all in her head, but he never once judged her for it. He was there for her and always tried to calm her mind. And even though he was a star soccer player, he never forgot where he came from. He was never an arrogant a**hole.

This was my first book by Carrie Aarons, and I really enjoyed it! It was cute, sweet, and great for the winter season.

Sweet Christmas second chance

Carrie Aarons has delivered a sweet, heartwarming, emotional Christmas story with WINTER BREAK UP. It is a beautifully written second chance romance between two childhood friends and once high school sweethearts.

Three years ago, before heading off to different colleges, Emily Palmer broke the heart of her sweetheart Mercer Russell, in doing so she shattered her own. Emily and Mercer have returned home for Winter break before beginning their final college year. Mercer has returned at the request of his best friend Charlie, Emily's brother, for one last chance to work on the Palmer's Christmas Tree Farm before they enter the 'real' world. This will be the first time Emily and Mercer have seen each other since they broke up, what will their reactions be?

I adored this story. It's obvious from the beginning that neither Emily nor Mercer have forgotten the times and fun they both shared together. (I loved that Ms. Aarons included memories of the past they shared; they enhanced the emotions I felt while reading.) Being back home and working together at the tree farm only heightens the feelings they still have for each other. When she sees Mercer again, Emily realizes the huge mistake she made three years ago and deeply regrets it, but how was she going to tell him how she felt now? She is hesitant to say anything because of what she went through at college and the effects it caused. Mercer is still hurt and angry, yet he is willing to put those aside as she is still the girl/woman he still loves and wants. I loved Mercer, he was caring, loyal, understanding and loving of those close to him. Would he be able to be around Emily and not want more?

Carrie Aarons' story really pulled on my heartstrings. The way in which she wrote about Emily's mental health situation was done with complete sensitivity and compassion. I loved that she wrote Mercer's response, it was honest and truthful. He became Emily's crutch, the one who she could fall back on, the one who brought her calm amongst the chaos. I need to mention Charlie, oh how I loved him. He was hilarious, crass, and the best brother and friend anyone could wish for. He really needs his own story.

WINTER BREAK UP. was a wonderful and magical Christmas read, one I couldn't devour quick enough, but also one I didn't want to end.

I always love reading Carrie's books and this holiday story was an easy and enjoyable read. I loved Emily and Mercer's second chance and how despite the years they spent apart, they never stopped loving each other. Mercer was Emily's brother's best friend so they had known each other since they were kids, the 3 of them were always together until Emily and Mercer fell in love in high school. Going to college was a new experience so Emily decided to break up with Mercer and they didn't see much of each other until now that Mercer was back in their hometown working and helping Emily's family on their Christmas Tree Farm.

Emily wanted to be a nurse so she always loved to help people, she had a great relationship with her family and her only regret was leaving Mercer before they went to college. Working with him was hard at first but she always tried to act cordial with him and they still had an undeniable chemistry so little by little they started admitting their feelings and how they felt after the years they spent apart. Emily was very easygoing but after breaking up with her cheating ex she started suffering from anxiety and that really affected her. I loved how she finally decided to fight for what she wanted and get the happy ending they both deserved.

Mercer was a soccer player and his only family was his grandpa so after a break from college he went to his hometown to be with his grandpa and help Emily's family. He always loved Emily but he was still hurt after she broke up with him and he never got over her so he always tried to stay away so he couldn't suffer watching Emily move on from him. Spending time together only made him realize that he still loved her and that nothing was perfect if they weren't together. I loved how their attraction and love were still there and how they eventually got back together, they had to sneak around but I loved their steamy scenes and how in the end they figured things out so that they could be together like they always wanted.

Their story was very entertaining and I loved reading about their interactions and how they finally came together after spending years apart, Emily and Mercer were really good together so I loved the moments they spent together and how they worked things out to have a future together.

Winter Break Up is a standalone Christmas themed Romance about Emily and Mercer.

Although Halloween is my favourite holiday, I really love Christmas and reading Christmas themed books. Carrie Aarons is an amazing Romance author, I've enjoyed many of her books, and I'm always looking forward to her Christmas themed Romance books. They always get me into the holiday spirit, and now I'm excited to decorate my Christmas tree! (In Belgium we usually decorate our Christmas trees after December 6th, 'Sinterklaas', but I usually decorate mine late November.)

Winter Break Up is a beautiful Romance story with second chance romance in it. Although this is a Romance book, this book also talks about friendship, family, anxiety, long distance relationships, depression, cheating, ... One thing that Carrie Aarons loves to do, is adding extra/interesting topics in her books and making certain things more discussible, such as mental health. I really love her for that! I really could relate to Emily's struggles, and I really loved reading about how Mercer supported her!

Winter Break Up has a mix of different tropes such as second chance and brother's best friend, two tropes that I really enjoy reading! If you're looking for a cute Romance book with hints of Christmas, then this book is definitely something for you! I always enjoy books written by Carrie Aarons, and this one was another hit! I'm really looking forward to Carrie Aarons' next book!

Winter Break Up is a sweet and spicy brother’s best friend/second chance romance by Carrie Aarons that is sure to get you thinking about Christmas! Mercer and Emily were high school sweethearts that seemed destined to go the distance, until she broke up with him right before college, breaking both their hearts in the process. Three years later, Mercer returns home for his last winter break to help Emily’s family work their Christmas tree farm, just like he used to do. Despite the lingering pain and anger, the old feelings and desires come rushing back. Giving in to the chemistry is a risk. Can they pull off a temporary fling without ending up devastated all over again, or can they work through their issues for a long-term win?

This book was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy for a holiday romance, with some real emotions (including mental health rep), a little drama, and a great small town feel. I loved the setting of the Christmas tree farm, and the way it forced Emily and Mercer to spend time working together without pressure. Mercer stole my heart every time he assisted a customer.😍 He was such a sweetheart throughout the book, and a fighter as well, whether he was putting himself out there for Emily or fighting to get his soccer career back on track. After reading his heart-wrenching backstory that trait makes sense. While I liked Emily and empathized with her struggles, I am not really a fan of the miscommunication trope, or making decisions for someone else. I did enjoy the way everything played out though, and I am super curious about Genny and Charlie!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Winter Break Up is the all new Christmas standalone by Carrie Aarons. This one has something for everyone. If you want to get into the holiday spirit, you love Hallmark movies, what better setting than a Christmas tree farm? This is also a high school sweetheart, second chance romance with all the feels and all of the emotional angst that Carrie is known for. This is a brother’s best friend book, and while that is not a favorite trope of mine, I love how Carrie wrote this one. Emily, Mercer and Emily’s brother Charlie were a solid friend group and Charlie rolled with the punches when Emily and Mercer changed the dynamic. Maybe it’s because they are twins so the connection is different, regardless, I loved that aspect of the plot. It’s easy to get swept up in emotions especially coming home for the holidays, and working with Mercer everyday in such a festive environment really made Emily take a look at what they had. The chemistry is great, they are young and how they react to things shows that. Mercer is such a golden retriever main character. He’s this incredible athlete that has faced so many different adversities, and he still looks for the positives. While I understand where both are coming from it hurt my heart to see Mercer so broken hearted. Carrie did a fantastic job of showing mental health and how it can drastically affect someone. I really resonated with Emily and what she was going through. I feel she was depicted in a way that was respectful but shined a light on what can be a very dark and vulnerable situation. It wasn’t candy coated but Carrie didn’t shy away from the grittiness of it. The family love and loyalty in this book is top notch, the smexy stuff is very spicy, characters are fantastic, the plot keeps you engaged, the character growth is so good, and the Christmas vibes are just what I needed. Winter Break Up is just what you need to start off your holiday season, pick this one up!

I love nothing more than a good second chance romance and this is the perfect second chance romance with a splash of holiday cheer! 🎄 We’ve got Emily and Mercer, high school sweethearts who went their separate ways for college only to be reunited for “one last season” working the tree farm that Emily’s parents own before they graduate college and go off into the real world.

Mercer is an up and coming soccer star and Emily is a nurse in the making. When they are reunited on the tree farm, they both are confronted with feelings they tried very hard to bury through their 3 year hiatus. Both Emily and Mercer still care deeply for one another and that is very obvious from the beginning. They have just enough angst due to their break up to keep this story interesting but not so much angst that it feels depressing. Emily does struggle with anxiety and panic attacks after finding out her college boyfriend was cheating on her but Mercer reassures her that she is *exactly* what he wants. However, they are both still hung up on what the future holds and through much of the book, this remains the prominent issue. The author navigates the issue of Emily’s mental health really well and it was very relatable as someone who also battles anxiety and the idea of not being or feeling good enough.

The one thing you can’t deny between these two characters, however, is the love they have for one another and the spice 🥵. I’m a firm believer that two characters having the right amount of chemistry and love between one another makes the spice in any book way better. This book definitely gives you that fuzzy Hallmark feeling coupled with a dash of angst and spice that makes you wanna keep reading!

3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I’m slowly starting to get into holiday books and this one was really sweet! It was the perfect ease into the holiday spirit.

Thoughts:
-This was a brother's best friend, second-chance romance book, which had me over the moon! I loved the second-chance part especially - you could feel both the lingering chemistry and hurt between Emily and Mercer. I do wish we got to see more of Emily’s brother's reaction to their situation, but I still love the complexities the brother's best friend trope lends to
-I loved both Mercer and Emily, but especially Emily. She was so incredibly relatable
-The Christmas tree farm added a sweet element to the book. I loved the traditions rooted throughout the story and the little interactions with customers
-I do wish it was a little longer, I think characters could have been developed deeper to give more meaning to the relationships
-My main qualm was both characters seemed to go on and on about their relationship: Emily about her regrets breaking up with Mercer years prior, and Mercer about how Emily broke his heart yet he still loved her. It was obviously an important aspect of the book, it just felt repeated quite often
-I absolutely loved Mercer’s relationship with his grandpa, that may have been my favorite part of the whole book

Overall, I enjoyed this book! If you like Hallmark Christmas movies with a little bit of spice, pick this one up!

Emily Palmer and Mercer Russell haven't seen each other in over three years, but the moment they reunite, their old attraction flares to life... whether they want it to or not...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Winter Break Up was a sweet and charming, second chance romance read! When Emily broke Mercer's heart, she damaged her own more than she ever realized. But when they return home for once last holiday season before adulthood settles in for good, will just might be an epic reconciliation between the couple that should have never called it quits...
This book takes place on the Palmer family's Christmas Tree Farm, and provided many nostalgic and heartwarming holiday moments for the two exes to fall in love all over again. Both Emily and Mercer are home on their last Christmas break from college. Emily on her way to becoming a nurse, and Mercer working to fulfill his dream of playing professional soccer.
I enjoyed this book, with its reunited for the holidays theme, and the growth that it shows between Emily and Mercer since they last dated. With new challenges and real life impeding upon them, this Christmas is the last chance for a second chance at love.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Carrie is back with another sweet holiday romance! “Winter Break Up” is another great holiday standalone that’s not only a relatively quick read, but also puts you in the holiday spirit! (Plus it pairs perfectly with Taylor Swift’s holiday song, “Christmas Tree Farm”!)
Right from the start of the book, it’s clear that Mercer never got over Emily. Combine that with him being best friends with Emily’s brother, and him working on her family’s Christmas tree farm, and they’re in for a wild winter break. While they’re both grappling with their feelings for each other, they’re also both dealing with their own personal struggles as well, Mercer with is soccer injury, and Emily with her anxiety.
I have absolutely no data to back this up, but in my head, in second chance romances, I feel like it’s usually the guy who breaks up with the girl in the original breakup, so Emily being the one to originally call things off (prior to the start of the book) felt refreshing.
As with most new adult romance books, I recommend it for 18+ due to some of the adult content.
If you’re looking for a sweet second chance romance to get you in the holiday spirit, I really recommend picking up one of Carrie’s holiday romances! If you like this one, she’s released one for the past two years as well, so there’s no shortage of books to read!
Huge thanks to Carrie for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Tis the season! Time to get into the Christmas spirit and the Winter Break Up is the perfect seasonal read.
This book has so many well-loved tropes: small town romance, second chance, brother's best friend. So there's really something for everyone!
This is Emily and Mercer's story. They were high school sweethearts, but Emily ended it before she could get her heartbroken from long-distance and college life... at least that was her thinking. These types of romances never last, right? In the process, she broke both of their hearts.
They've avoided each other for years, but now they're back on Emily's family Christmas tree farm helping out for the holiday. What happens when you force two people who still love each other to work closely together every day?
Mercer is so angry at Emily, but you can tell how much he still loves her. However, their lives are getting ready to go in two totally separate directions again - is the timing right this time? Can they make it work when they're about to go through all the same issues that made Emily feel like a breakup was right the last time?
I docked a star because sometimes I really hate how little characters communicate and how many problems could be solved if they just talked for five minutes. Instead, these two like to talk sans clothes, which while fun, isn't the healthiest.
They both struggle in this book, and it's great to see how they're there for one another and help each other through it. You'll definitely find yourself rooting for the two of them to get their act together and realize how much they love each other!
Are you looking for an adorable second chance Christmas story? If so, you want to check this one out! Things to look for in this book:
Brothers best friend ✔️
College romance ✔️
Second chance romance ✔️
Small town ✔️
Christmas tree farm goodness ✔️
Almost pro soccer MMC ✔️
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice level: 🌶️.5
Angst level: 💔
When Emily and Mercer broke up 3 1/2 years ago, both were individually left devastated and heartbroken. And both have avoided each other all of these years in self preservation.
But now they are both back helping out the Emily’s family’s tree farm for winter break and are forced to be in close proximity again. Neither of them has fallen out of love with the other and neither has moved on.
Their lives are moving in two different directions now. Will they be able to move forward together? Or will all of the reasons that broke them up the first time, continue to keep them apart now?
Emily and Mercer were SO sweet together and you could truly feel their love for each other through the pages and I loved that. Mercer is the kind of boyfriend that anyone would want with the way that he tries to take care of her and love her.
I loved the individual relationships that they both had their families as well!
*ARC Review*
I was lucky to receive Winter Break Up as an ARC and once finishing it, it was an OK read for me. It gets one ready for that holiday spirit, small hometown, college winter break, family and everything that goes with going back home.
Now comes the part where you have the MC's, Mercer and Emily. I get it, its 'spicy' romance read. But the feeling they both feel when seeing each other again since breaking up 3 years ago is I want to be naked with them, or how their body felt against theirs. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy smutty reads but for two people who still love each other that's the first thought that comes to mind? It was what it was.
I did enjoy that Mercer and Emily cared for each other and helped each other when they were going through issues being mental health, physical injury, etc. The need for them to just talk about what had happened before leaving for college 3 years ago and how they still loved each other played through the entire story and they didn't talk, they pulled away when the conversation of the past and possible future would be. I understood why, insecurities and what not but please just talk!
Overall it was ok, there were parts that I enjoyed and some not so much.
If you are looking for a Christmas love story than pick up this book. Winter Break Up is a second chance romance story between high school sweethearts Emily and Mercer as they reunite to work on Emily’s family Christmas tree farm one last winter before entering the real world. They were young and in love but Emily made a hard decision to break up before leaving for two different colleges but that didn’t stop the hurt and the love. Now the pull they still have towards each other is there so do they give into it and enjoy the winter break together before going out into the world or does it have a recipe for disaster all over again?
You can tell right away that Emily and Mercer were meant to be together and that their time apart gave them the opportunity to grow. A lot had changed for both of them and for them to share those changes with each other after their time apart really showed how much they cared for each other. It certainly didn’t hurt that the physical connection they share is only magnified more because of their emotional connection. Super quick and easy Christmas book to read for this holiday season!
Winter Break Up by Carrie Aarons
Loved loved!!!
Can you imagine living with the regret of letting your one love go? Well that is exactly what Emily has been regretting. Years ago she decided to let Mercer Russell go before starting her college career and it was her biggest regret. That decision has come with her living life with a feeling of loss an emptiness her missing piece. Mercer was heartbroken when Emily broke things off and has not been able to let go or forgive. They both end up return home for the first time since the breakup alto help on the Palmer's Christmas Tree Farm. For Emily it just solidifies what she already knew that she made a huge mistake but how can she tell him and explain what happened especially with her experience at college. Mercer still feels all this love towards her but hey he doesn’t know how to let go of the anger he feels too. I loved that even though Mercer was still hurt and angry, he was willing to put those feelings aside. He just wanted and felt that she was still the same woman he fell in love with and that he still loved and wanted. You guys I loved this book and you will too. The author did an excellent job with this book it is so well worth the five stars and more. Highly recommend.
Winter Break Up follows Emily and Mercer who were high school sweethearts up until Emily broke up with Mercer before they headed to college. Emily feared the unknowns of what the distance would do to them so she ended it before giving it a chance.
Mercer is on track to be drafted into professional soccer and Emily is in her last year of school to become a nurse.
But what happens when 3 years later, Emily and Mercer both end up spending Christmas break working together at her family’s Christmas Tree Farm? Will flames reignite or will history and broken hearts be too much to overcome?
I have been reading Carrie Aaron’s romance novels for quite a number of years now and she never ceases to amaze me. I adored the Christmas nostalgia and all the feels of this book. Watching their story unfold and Emily power through her struggles was absolutely beautiful. You just can’t help falling in love with Emily and Mercer and I found myself rooting for the two of them throughout the book. The spice in this book was also spectacular!
