Widow Darcy Spencer abhors the very idea of marriage, but to become a Pinkerton agent, she must marry her trainer. She's assured that it's in name only, so she begrudgingly takes the position. Although her new husband is infuriating, she’s determined to prove herself worthy as an agent – and as a person.
Agent Porter Shaw can’t help but tease his tight-lipped, stubborn bride. She keeps her secrets locked up so dang tight that even his usual charm fails to break through her defenses. When they are assigned a case at a cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains, they quickly discover that someone is very serious about keeping their own secrets buried.
Can a jaded widow and a cocky agent learn to work together, and maybe even find love?
Laura Beers is an award-winning author. She attended Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management. She can't sing, doesn't dance and loves naps.
Laura lives in Utah with her husband, three kids, and her dysfunctional dog. When not writing regency romance, she loves waterskiing, hiking, and drinking Dr Pepper.
3 stars. The heroine was infuriating. She is a new Pinkerton agent and thinks that she knows everything and ends up getting the hero shot. Actually, for both of them being supposedly pretty smart people, they made a lot of really bad decisions. The writing isn’t bad, but the plot line is really terrible. Also, the heroine is devastated after the betrayal and loss of her first husband, but is cured of all her misgivings after five days with the hero. How stupid.
Safe: No sex Heroine widowed No info given about either MC Heroine does end up pregnant in the epilogue, so I guess they must have gotten down and dirty off page 🫢😉

I loved this book! The thing I loved the most was that it wasn't quite like the other Pinkerton Matchmaker books. You had the background of each character and the mystery took off fairly early. The couple trusted early on, but you still had the woman trying to prove she was of value to the case and the man trying to protect her. I especially liked that there wasn't a lot of wordy descriptive paragraphs talking about the dilemma the characters were going through because of their conflicting feelings and such. The story moved quickly and the ending was one I especially liked. I loved this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
Darcy is heartbroken, betrayal has left her reeling and she is determined to never marry again. She needs a new life and the Pinkerton Advertisement offers everything she wants...and everything she is determined to avoid! Her disappointment almost gushes from the page when she feels she has been duped....again. But as their investigation proceeds you she the light enter her eyes again, feel her sass and confidence increase and we see a whole new Darcy emerge. Porter almost gives you whiplash with the speed he changes from never wanting to marry to being all growly and protective whenever Darcy speaks to another man, his possessive outbursts will have chuckling...or wanting to throttle him! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Another good story in the series. I like Laura Beers as an author and have read another series by her and enjoyed it, so I was expecting this to be quite good, and it was. It wasn't as polished as her other stories, but I liked the story and it flowed really well.
Darcy is jaded about husband's and men in general. She wants to be independent of a man and go her own way. The ad for Pinkerton agents seemed just the right thing. She even married her partner without a qualm as long as there was an ending to it. But as with all the other teams, this one doesn't go as she planned and they fall in love.
The job they go on put them in danger of a deranged man who kills at will and they don't know why.
Laura Beers masterfully crafts a story that grabs you and holds your attention from beginning to end. Darcy chooses to become a Pinkerton Agent while embracing and using her past experiences to solve the case of the disappearing cowhands. Darcy and Porter are a perfect match but need to learn to be partners in both work and life through love and trust. I highly recommend An Agent for Darcy, a Historical Romance filled with suspense.

“That was touching, but we have a mad man barreling after us. Do you think you could wrap this up anytime soon?”
I loved this story. Darcy is such a fun character, the back story with her previous husband was an interesting one that I don’t believe I have seen before. Porter was such a cocky agent I absolutely love the affect Darcy had on him. I even loved the side characters, can I get a story about Adam finding his new love story please? That’d be great.
I have enjoyed this series immensely. Each book works well as a stand-alone but I have managed to keep up reading as they come out.
Darcy is a bitter widow. Porter is a charmer. Darcy is a college educated nurse and experienced rancher. Porter is a former rancher and experienced agent.
One of the highlights of this series is the focus on the skill set that each woman brings to solving crimes or problem solving.
I just live these Pinkerton books. Smart saucy women with attitude meet arrogant agents with no need of a partner much less a bride. Thinking being a female Pinkerton agent would give her the independence she craved Darcy left the ranch and headed to Denver only to discover that the job requires she marry her partner. Another winner in this series!
Warm Hearted I enjoyed how the Agent wanted to know all about the background of the partner so that they could understand each other better. The sensitivity help to dissolve walls so they could trust each other for their case.
I liked that the Agent wanted to know about the partner so they could trust and understand each other. It was a beautiful story and I enjoyed it very much.
Porter and Darcy married in name only so she could become a female agent Darcy had to set Porter straight a few times to get her point across finally ported knew she ment business.A book I would recommend to anyone.of course a happy ending. I hope Adam meets his future bride
I couldn’t sleep so I decided to start this book in hopes that I would get tired, nope that was not the case, it hooked me right away and I ended up reading the entire book in 3.5 hours. You get invested with these characters from the very beginning. And like all of Laura Beers books, there is a little mystery mixed in with a love story. Very well written. And I love a nice quick read.
Darcy doesn’t want to get married again so she took a great step to become a Pinkerton Agent......and she ended married to Porter. Will they learn to count on each other during their undercover assignment? I really enjoyed this story, it has the adventure and love you want to see in a book in this series. This is becoming one of my favorite series.
The Pinkerton Matchmaker series is my favorite series currently. This story in particular has a great deal of impact for the sharing of a disastrous past to help someone else along the road to recovery from devastation. Great story! Enjoy 💜👍👍👍
Another great book by Laura Beers. A fun addition to the Pinkerton matchmaker series. I immediately connected with Darcy and Porter and enjoyed watching Darcy face her past while helping Porter solve a mystery.
Simply heartwarming. This story had a little of everything. Murder, betrayal, envy and greed. Love was discovered. Hopefully Adam and Ralph will find happiness in a new story. Loved this happy ending for Porter, Darcy and all of their love ones.
I liked the fact that Darcy decided to take her life into her own hands after what life dealt her. By becoming a Pinkerton she was able to solve not only multiple murders, but also help someone who had gone through similar circumstances.
This story draws you in...and you don’t want to let go! Laura Beers doesn’t disappoint- her books are well written and keep you guessing what will happen next. Great read!
Loved this story! Darcy and Porter made a great couple! They got so perfectly together. I don't want to spoil anything, so I will just say the ending couldn't have been better!!
Although the books in this series run along the same line, I truly love Laura's development of the romance. She bases it on struggles, compassion and true love. Then through in a great mystery and it creates a wonderful novel.
With hundreds of men proposing to her she had to get away and what better way than becoming a Pinkerton. He loved his job at Pinkton and was alright with having to marry a lady Pinkerton if necessary. Good read with great characters.
An Agent For Darcy by Laura Beers Aug 14, 2019 5 stars
This was a wonderful story! I loved the set up and the way the case matched their qualifications so well! I loved how i couldn't solve the case or the reasoning behine the crime!
Really good. There was a ton of mystery in this book. I love mysteries and it still kept me guessing. I also enjoyed Darcy and Porter's interactions. Darcy is a widow who hadn't had a good marriage. But she has to marry again in order to go on the case. I liked seeing how caring Porter was towards her. A clean, sweet romance.
