Romeo & The greatest love story … or a cautionary tale?
I hate Holden Dorsey. I hate him almost as much as I want him.
I’ve worked my entire life to get into this prestigious theater department and as a freshman paying my own tuition with every one of my hard earned dollars, I’m not going to let anyone stand in my way of achieving my dreams to become a Broadway actress.
Especially not a cocky senior quarterback who rolls into the Romeo & Juliet auditions and snags the leading role.
This may be a joke to him, but it’s my life.
But when Holden makes me an offer I can’t refuse, I know he isn’t just going to break me…
He’s going to shatter me beyond repair.
And what’s worse? I’m going to beg him to do it.
*Please note that Shattered Juliet ends on a CLIFFHANGER! Kate and Holden's story will continue in the next book, Broken Romeo!
Katana Collins is a USA Today bestselling author of over twenty novels, novellas, and comic books in a variety of genres. She is most known for her sensual contemporary romances and her wildly popular comic book— Batman White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn with DC Comics.
When she was younger and stole her mother’s Harlequins to read beneath the covers with a flashlight, she wanted to read about the tough as nails heroine. The perfectly imperfect girl with quirks and attitude and sass. And the anti-heroes who were anything but “Prince Charming.” Forget the knight on a white horse … she wanted the bad boy on a motorcycle.
An avid animal lover, she lives in Portland, Maine with her kind of mean cat, derpy lab-pitt mix, mellow chihuahua, and very not mellow cairn terrier puppy. Oh, yeah… there’s a husband somewhere in that mix, too.
She can usually be found in a coffee shop with her nose buried in a laptop wearing fabulous (albeit sometimes impractical) shoes.
She loves connecting with book lovers like herself, and fellow sassy storytellers, so feel free to drop her an email, visit her on her website. She also loves connecting on Instagram, Facebook or in her reader group, Kat’s Kittens!
This was a nice prequel of events leading up to Broken Romeo. I don't think it is entirely necessary to read this prior to Broken Romeo as many of the scenes are repeated between the novella and the novel, but there are a few scenes that are new or expanded. I was hoping to find out what the big betrayal was leading up to Holden and Kate/Katherine's big fallout, but alas I have to wait until Rebel Romeo. Fortunately, the wait is short as that comes out in less than 2 weeks.
I'm glad I did read this as it was a nice recap of Broken Romeo, and refreshed my memory for Rebel Romeo which I am anxiously awaiting.
I'm about to read Broken Romeo, and it mentioned there was a prequel, so I had to read this first! And I loved it! This short prequel gives us an introduction into these two characters, and while I feel I got a read on Kate, Holden is an enigma. Kate is a sweet, innocent, never-been-kissed 18 year old freshman whose dreams of making it on Broadway are only just beginning. She's doing what she can to pay her way through college. Holden, on the other hand, is the star Quarterback, completing this course for an 'easy A'. I can't even say he comes across as a jerk, because whilst he openly says he's bad ews and yes, some things he does are questionable, I feel like there's something deeper there, something dark that is weighing Holden down and he's simply doing what he can to survive. The chemistry between these two is undeniable, and their banter feels natural. Holden is 3 years older than Kate, so at 21, to him, he's too old for her. Yet, as you move through the story, you just know he's holding part of himself back. I love Kate's innocent nature. She's a unique character, and she also doesn't really let too much get to here. I really enjoyed this, I really would have liked to see Holden's POV as i like a dual POV story, but it was still a good read.

Kate arrives at college as a freshman with stars in her eyes and lots of hopes and dreams. Early on, she meets a senior named Holden, and they both witness something that bonds them a little, and sets the stage for starring roles in a university production of Romeo and Juliet. Kate is strapped for cash, so she has to earn spending money by working a couple of jobs. She has a side gig as well, but it’s one that very few people know about. Yes, this story ends in a cliffhanger, but it’s not a jarring one as far as those usually go. This story is the prelude to an upcoming duet focusing on Holden (and Kate).
This story is a fast read, with protagonists that are intriguing. Holden freely admits he’s a jerk at times, but Kate sees something else in him. She’s quite a bit younger than Holden and much less experienced, and that is making him pause. Readers are left in the dark about what happens with the play, and whether Kate finishes school, but those questions are probably answered in the duet. This looks like the start of an interesting story!
Shattered Juliet is the prequel to Katana Collins new Shattered Hearts Duet. It's Kate and Holden's story from Kate's POV and takes place five years before the events in Broken Romeo. I already read Broken Romeo and I was in knots after that cliffhanger on both timelines. And after reading Shattered Juliet I'm still in knots because that end left me with more questions than answers. But I know one thing for sure, that Kate is totally my hero. She's smart, talented and sassy . Add her heart of gold and steel backbone and you have the perfect match for Holden. Even though he still isn't the perfect one for her . Kate fought all her life for the things she wanted in life. It was so sad that she doesn't have the support of her family and was left completely on her own. But that only strengthen her and build her character. On the other side Holden was the golden boy but only on the outside. He lacks courage and will to stand for himself and it's evident that he lacks backbone and his character is still a work in progress. And that epilogue that brings the timeline to the events prior to Broken Romeo brought up more questions and now I can't wait for Rebel Romeo to see what will happen next.
This is the prequel to the Shattered Hearts duet which tells of how Kate and Holden met at college. Kate is an innocent, never been kissed freshman from Indiana who dreams of making it big and Holden is the quarterback of the football team, a Senior and a trust fund kid from Boston whose future is mapped out. When these two meet something clicks between them and so starts a love-hate relationship that will threaten to ruin them both! I loved this book, and am so excited to read the first book in this duet!
Whew boy! This book is hott! It felt decadent. Like I shouldn’t be reading this, but I can’t put it down! Kate is a freshman in college and she’s trying to balance working and classes. She soon finds herself with an unexpected debt. I enjoyed the banter between Kate and Holden. The chemistry between them was intense but he let her know he wasn’t the guy for her. Yet couldn’t stay away … I couldn’t read this fast enough! Looking so forward to Broken Romeo!
This is just the prequel and I’m already hooked. So with that said it does leave you hanging, but that was expected. Enjoyed reading this as there is much detail in this story that will capture your attention with the characters and everything. Loved Kate and her optimism with Holden, as she knows there is more to him then what he lets show. Can’t wait to read the next book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Shattered Juliet is the Prequel to Katana’s new Shattered Hearts duet. It was the back story on Kate and Holden. I would highly recommend reading it prior to reading Broken Romeo as it ends on a cliffhanger!! It was a sexy and fun, quick read!
Kate was determined to make her dreams come true. She worked harder than most to get into the best college for a theater major. She certainly was not going to let Holden, a cocky quarterback, get in her way, right?
I can’t wait to dive into Broken Romeo! I loved watching these two and can’t wait to see what happens.
A good prequel with an amazing cliffhanger that makes me definitely want to read the next installment. Holden and Kate have an interesting hate to love story, and knowing the time jump post college will be interesting to see how they’ve both changed from the actions of this book!
This prequel is just what I needed before I started Broken Romeo. This book gives you the back story on Kate and Holden's relationship and boy is it ever so juicy. You get to see what happens before and then you start Broken Romeo.
Not all that interesting tbh… supposed to be kinda a retelling of Romeo and Juliet but we barely get to see the show they are acting in and they aren’t great at being star crossed lovers.
Always love a Troy Bolton moment though, good for Holden.
