How can he protect her from himself when she keeps winding up in his arms?

She never gave up hope. After ten years of prayers for her husband, presumed dead in the Peninsula Wars, Abigail Emerson is shocked to discover him alive. Yet what should be the happily ever after of fairy tales becomes a nightmare when he coldly instructs her to forget she’d ever seen him. Abigail refuses to let her beloved slip through her fingers again, and she's willing to battle for his love, despite the walls he’s created to barricade his heart.

Nicholas Emerson’s time as a spy for the War Office has left physical and mental battle wounds. He can never be the charming, carefree man he once was—the man his wife deserves—but when a threat to Abby’s life returns him to their small Midland village, keeping her safe proves more challenging than expected. If only Abby would forget him and remarry, then he wouldn’t have to face the torment of all the tender, buried feelings she evokes. The consequence of his life as a spy means he can never have her again…

Warning! This book is impossible to put down. Reclaiming the Spy is the second book in the Agents of Espionage series and will definitely tug on your heartstrings. After reading the first book in the series, I was excited to read Abby’s story. Hers is an emotional journey of faith, second chances, and strength as she deals with unimaginable circumstances.

The day after their wedding, Nicholas Emerson left Abby to serve the crown in the Peninsular Wars and is presumed dead. After ten long years of waiting, Abby has nearly given up hope, but when a stranger appears at her mother-in-law’s funeral, she begins to question if Nicholas is still alive. Suffering a bout of food poisoning, she collapses in the woods and is rescued by a man she thinks might be her husband, but is she delirious?

Nicholas is alive but suffering from severe PTSD. He’s temporarily taken shelter in a cabin in the woods waiting for his next assignment. Though he longs to be with Abby and still loves her, his traumatic experiences during the war make him fearful of inadvertently hurting her. When he finds her collapsed in the woods, he risks exposing his identity to save her. But when Abby recognizes him and begs him to stay, will he?

This is a heart wrenching story that’ll have you admiring Abby for her faith, caring, and persistence, and railing at the awful predicament she finds herself in. My heart ached for Nick. It’s clear he loves Abby, but that one misguided comment from her in the beginning of their courtship put him on a treacherous path that’s lead him far away from her. It’s a tender, painful journey as they both try to reclaim their marriage. And just when you think things might work out, danger and more problems threaten their future.

This faith-filled, action packed, angsty story was perfectly balanced with romance and a touch of humor. I enjoyed the local busybody Lady Etheridge who provides some much needed lightness to the story. I also liked the references to werewolves and the town’s superstitions.

The ending was definitely a surprise with plenty of twists and turns along the way. It’s a must read regency romance that’ll keep you turning the pages. Though it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. Looking forward to the next book! I received an advanced complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. All opinions are completely my own and voluntarily provided. 4 1/2 stars raised to 5

Whew, y’all. Keep a fan, fainting couch, and perhaps an alternate source of oxygen handy because the romantic tension between Abby and Nick is off. the. charts. I barely breathed whenever they shared a scene, so palpable was the electricity in the air.

This story, y’all. It had me captivated from the beginning. Actually, I was captivated by the possibility since book one, Revealing the Truth, when I met Abby and suspected that the mysterious man who guarded his identity but only had eyes for Abby might just be her long-lost husband. Two madly-in-love newlyweds separated by military duty the day after they were married, and then Nick disappeared – presumed dead, a casualty of the Peninsula Wars. Then, ten years later, a scarred (internally and externally) Nick is forced to reveal himself as very much alive when Abby’s life is in danger. He’s been working for the War Office all this time… so why hasn’t he come back before now? What torments his spirit? And why is he insisting that he won’t stay?

Ahhhh the tension!! All kinds of tension abound in Reclaiming the Spy (my favorite, of course, being the romantical kind which we’ve already established is swoonilicious). Not to worry, though, despite some angst from all of the above, this novel is not without a plentiful amount of wit, joy, or KISSES (i know… i keep bringing up the romance but y’all….. whew). The joy is hard fought but that just makes it all the more meaningful, doesn’t it? Most of the humor comes from Abby and Nick’s respective interactions with Lady Etheridge, whom we were first introduced to in Dudley’s Leeward Island series book The Merchant’s Yield. Let’s just say her nickname seems to fit perfectly, but in this book very little is as it seems.

Bottom Line: Reclaiming the Spy by Lorri Dudley is a heartfelt romance with a gentle-but-profound message of faith and richly-developed characters…and swoony kisses! I found the PTSD plot to be fascinating and layered – the perceptions, the stigmas, the dangers it presented, etc – because it’s not something we see often in historical fiction even though it was very real even then. I’ve been rooting for Abby & Nick since book one in this series, and I was delighted to watch their story play out on these pages. It engaged all of my emotions and had me reminding myself more than once that i DO in fact trust this author to deliver a happily-ever-after, even if it looks like an impossibility in the middle of the story. (And isn’t there a spiritual truth for all of us in THAT statement?) In short, I loved it, and I think you will too! If you’re a fan of Mimi Matthews or Jody Hedlund, you need to be reading Lorri Dudley too!

Reclaiming the Spy, by Lorri Dudley is the second book in the Agents of Espionage series. Nicholas was sent to war the day after marrying Abigail. After being injured and presumed dead for ten years, he returns home and hides out in a cabin. When she become ill and unable to get home, he carries her and sends for help.

I just loved this story. It has so much hope despite the desperate situation. I was left hoping Abigail could convince Nicholas to stay, while he felt he had to leave and return to his life as a spy. This is a story of unending love and faith. I appreciate how the story show how severely affected Nicholas was from the war and how unknowingly it affected others. The ending of the story was a surprise. I like how the story shows the different ways people look at others.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.

After reading the first book in the Agents of Espionage series by Lorri Dudley, I knew Abigail Emerson had her own tale to tell and this is Abby’s story. While Book One was more action-oriented, Reclaiming the Spy was no less compelling as it drew upon the internal struggles faced by a married couple who had been separated for ten years. Nicholas Emerson had undergone much hardship and trauma in his service to the Crown, leaving him broken, defeated and reliving in his mind the horrors he faced. I love how this author imparts inspiring spiritual truths into her stories and this book focused on the power of prayer and personal faith to impact one’s life for the better. While dealing with serious issues and scenes that might have you grabbing for some tissues, this story also had its light-hearted moments (i.e. Lady Awfulridge, you just have to read it). I felt like cheering for Abby and Nick while at the same time shaking my head at Nick for some of his decisions. Despite these decisions, the author brought the pair to a beautiful and uplifting conclusion. I came away feeling inspired after reading this book and believe it would make an excellent book club choice.

I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher via BookFunnel and Celebrate Lit. These are my own opinions and I was not required to write a positive review.

Reclaiming the Spy is the Agents of Espionage second book that I have been waiting for since reading the first book in the series. By Lorri Dudley, it was everything I had hoped for in Abby’s story. Abby is the sister of the hero from the first book, Stephen which is where you meet Abgail. She is just a delight especially since she has never given up hope that her MIA military husband, Nicholas Emerson is still alive. Of course, he is not the same man who went to war but then neither is Abby.

There are several unique supporting characters that bring some quirkiness to the story and several very sweet ones such as young Lydia. However, this is Nicholas and Abgail’s story with most of the focus on them, their situation, pain, difficulties and recovery. PTSD is not new to contemporary times but it would have been a misunderstood disorder when Nicholas served. Still I appreciated the way it is handled in the story showing the ignorance of society but with compassion and hope.

What a wonderful story of trusting, believing and yielding to the grace of God, I highly recommend Reclaiming the Spy as well the entire series. Now I am hoping that Lieutenant Sparks receives a future story.

The publisher Wild Hearts Books provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

I have read many of Lorri Dudley’s novels. Each one offers a unique, action-packed journey with expressive, deep characters.
Abby has suffered alone for ten years, believing her husband had died. She holds him close to her heart, dreaming of his unlikely return, a life that could end in happiness.
Instead, intrigue and mystery surround her days as a stranger rescues her and opens her heart to possibilities.
Join the journey.

I can say without a doubt that this is the BEST book I've read this year, and is definitely on my 'Most Loved' books list!
I loved the first book in this series, but THIS one... tops that one by leaps!!
A great story once again, but in my opinion, the the author took it a few levels higher.
I will occasionally highlight certain lines in a book because they appeal to me or move me.
In this book, I lost count of how many lines and whole pages I highlighted!
Beautiful prayers, scripture, and loving marriage advice.
***If you happen to struggle with a difficult marriage - for any reason, this book may be a blessing to you.
The struggles between Abby and Nick may be different than your own - with him being gone for 10 years, having PTSD from war, etc, but there had to be growth in each of them, which we can All identify with.
They both had to learn to trust God for their futures and surrender their fears and anger to Him.
Abby had to choose to forgive - in the hardest of circumstances.
This book was exceptionally well written, with great characters, and superb drama and tender moments.
Steamy - but CLEAN romance - between husband and wife. The author handled this beautifully.
I advise that you keep some tissues on hand... yes, more than one... I just finished this book a bit ago, and am now in that contented 'afterglow' of reading a good book with a happy ending...
An excellent, emotional, happy ending..
I highly recommend this book!
Better to read the first one first - to better understand some of the characters!
And Lady Etheridge... You Rock!!! Who would have thought??? lol!

“I didn’t want the world. I just wanted you.”

Set in the broader scope of Regency England, Lorri Dudley’s Reclaiming the Spy is a great novel to read on so many levels. You could read it for the romance. Will Abby and Nick ever get their conflicting, see-sawing emotions and actions on one plain?

On the marriage front, several thoughts emerge. When is enough, enough? How long do you keep hoping and praying for change? Can you assume you know how your partner will respond to your trial?

Who are the true friends? Who are the enemies? You may be surprised!

I loved that Mama Em’s words of faith often come back to Abby, even after Mama Em has passed. Our words of faith can have such power! “Now, it was Mama Em’s words that kept Abby from teetering over the edge into hopelessness. ‘Bring your questions to God. He can handle them.’”

And, our intercession for others can makes all the difference, in Heaven’s economy. “There were times when Abby hadn’t been able to pray. It had been too painful, but Mama and Katherine had prayed in her stead.”

And a thank you to Ms. Dudley. We are dealing with a ongoing, painful, family crisis. I laughed my way through the last part of the book and felt healing for my soul!!

A must-read!! I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also bought a copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“It’s like I told you, even when He’s silent, He’s working.”

“God hasn’t deserted you.” Her voice pleaded for understanding. “It says in His word that He will never leave you or forsake you. I used to think God had forgotten me, but I grew to realize that He was by my side pulling me though. He’s with you too.”

“…marriage isn’t an emotional thing. People don’t merely fall in and out of love. You make a decision to love, for better or worse. Sometimes you have to make that decision daily—sometimes it’s hourly.”

‘The success of one’s turnaround depends upon the depths of one’s desperation.’

I adored this story and have been waiting for Abby and Nick's story since finishing the first in the series. They have been married for ten years, really only spending one day and night together, their wedding day, before Nick was expected to pay his due to his commission. A reckless decision he made when he purchased that commission, all due to a snide remark that Abby made once upon a time.

Now ten years later, Abby is living on her own having just lost her mother-in-law. She has not given up on her hopes of Nick being alive, even though the crown had a funeral for him and declared him dead. There was no body, and Abby is not quite ready to let the love of her life go.

Nick is a spy, and his next mission has brought him close to home. However, he cannot bear to let Abby see his scars that almost killed him. Nor can he control the night terrors he is suffering because of his PTSD. He does not want to harm her, nor does he want to be sent away to Bedlam and never return. So, he keeps to himself, working missions alone, hoping that Abby will move on with her life.

That is not to be done once Abby finds out her husband is alive. She is willing and will fight the uphill battle for him. She is so thankful her prayers were answered that she views his scars as testament to those answered prayers. But she is fighting alone, as Nick is very hardheaded about his views.

Nick and Abby belong together, Abby and everyone else knows that. Nick needs to realize that too and to fight for his marriage. Ten years have already gone by. This makes for a great fall read as talks and rumors of a werewolf roaming about the woods adds to the drama.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

If you are looking for a book that will reach deep into your emotions, you won’t want to miss Reclaiming the Spy! It’s a book that is almost impossible to put down. Seriously.

Reclaiming the Spy hooked me right from the prologue. Nick and Abby were newly married, and happy–so happy that I had a sense of impending disaster. And sure enough, then the letter arrived, changing everything.

This book has earned every bit of a five stars and beyond. It dug deeply into my emotions. It made me laugh and cry (I was so glad my sister wasn’t in the room). Best of all, it delivered a perfect ending, giving my emotions a much needed soothing.

I love a book where I can’t guess what’s going to happen next, and the unique circumstances of Reclaiming the Spy kept me turning pages. Every character was perfectly developed. Lorri used real skill in portraying Nick, making him likeable, yet also displaying the trauma he faced. I was on the edge of my seat every time he started sneaking around Abby, trying to hide his identity. Those were some of the best parts of the book.

Lorri threaded a beautiful theme through the book, showing the sanctity of marriage and the importance of unconditional love. Abby provided a lovely picture of what a wife should look like with the strength of her love for Nick and her determination to stay at his side no matter what.

I also loved how Lorri emphasized that God is the One who heals. The way that she delivered truth in Reclaiming the Spy gives this book a deep impact and makes it a story that will linger in your mind long after reading the last word.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book, but my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

It has been ten years since Abigail has seen her husband. They married young and suddenly he was called away to war. Now after losing her mother-in-law she feels very alone. In her heart she still feels that Nicholas is alive and can’t give her heart to someone else. I admire her loyalty and faith which has helped her all these years.

Nicholas has been damaged by the war emotionally and physically. What his wife doesn’t know is that he is very much alive. He has endured so much that it has affected him in ways that many do not understand. Being tortured and having to keep your cover is difficult. I think he may be dealing with PTSD. When he runs into his wife he is happy yet scared for her life. She has no idea that he has been a spy and hold secrets that could put others in danger. How will he explain that he can’t stay? Will he be able to forget about her?

I could not put this book down with its deep faith content and illustration of trust in God. No matter what trials Abigail faced she never gave up hope that her husband was alive. Nicholas continues to tell Abigail that he must leave het. She fights with all she has to let him know that he is safe now.

Emotional scars run deep and are hard to overcome. Nicholas allows his fears to convince him that he can never be happy or have a life with Abigail. There are deep scars that only God can heal for him. The journey in this story is filled with sadness, pain and forgiveness. The truth lies in believing God and allowing him to heal what the enemy tried to use for bad. Will Abigail and Nicholas get their happy ending?

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

After reading the first book in the series, Revealing the Truth, I needed to know more about Abby’s story and her husband, proclaimed dead, but she believed was still alive. I was incredibly excited when this book came out and just had to read it.

While there was much about this book I liked, I was left with mixed emotions. I loved being able to learn more about Abby and Nick’s love story, to be able to meet Nick and journey with the both of them through their reunion and the trials that followed. The author does a great job pulling on the reader’s emotions, ensuring that he or she keeps turning the pages. I also appreciated how Dudley did not sugarcoat the hardship of war and the effects it can leave on a person. Nick is damaged, both physically and mentally, and it’s what makes it difficult for him to stay in Abby’s life.

I’m going to be honest, however, there are a few aspects of the novel that keep it from being my favorite Lorri Dudley book that I have read. First and foremost, there were a couple subplots within the book that I felt were resolved too quickly. I would have loved to see them unfold more. I think it would’ve made the story that much more interesting. There is one especially that I can’t say because it would spoil the story, but there were big issues that one of the main characters struggled with that I felt Dudley just put a band-aid over and it disappointed me.

Overall, however, I recommend this novel to those who enjoy historical romance.

I had received a copy of the book as part of the Celebrate Lit Blogging Team and was required to give an honest review.

I loved this quote from Lorri Dudley about her writing viewpoint because I think it describes this book so well: “I believe readers should be led on a heart journey. Romance should allow for an escape from everyday life. It should also lead us to a better understanding of the human condition and how God views us.” All of the above was my experience in reading this book. I completely understand why, as of the date of writing this review, it’s the “top new release in Christian historical fiction” on the Amazon chart. There’s romance, adventure, faith, hope, and love interwoven all through the storyline. Abigail Emerson was an example of never giving up faith and hope that her husband would return to her after 10 years of not hearing from him, as he was serving the Crown in the role of a spy. Nicholas Emerson didn’t think he was fit to be Abby’s husband after all the tragedy hed seen and experienced in the war, but Abby was willing to fight for their marriage and the chance to have a family with Nicholas. This was a book that I found it difficult to find a stopping place while reading. I have moved Lorri Dudley to my “must read authors” list and look forward to reading her next door in this series. Just one note: There’s a “closed door” scene suggesting affection between Abby and Nicholas when Nicholas returns home to Abby. There’s nothing inappropriate about this scene, and it’s written very well, keeping in mind that this is Christian fiction. But for readers of this blog who like the book they’re reading to have only one kiss at the end, be aware that this scene is there. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Christian Historical Romance has become one of my favorite Genres to read. Reclaiming the Spy by Lorri Dudley is Book 2 in the Agents of Espionage Series. I am excited that Book 2 is finally out, as I have been anxiously awaiting this book. I read Book 1 and really enjoyed it.

Abigail Emerson has been praying for the past 10 years that her husband, Nicholas Emerson, is still alive. He has been presumed Dead in the Penisula Wars. She is shocked when she runs into him and discovers he is alive. Nicholas has been a Spy for the War Office and he is not sure that he can ever be the same man Abigail had grown to love. He encourages her to go forward in life with his blessings. Abigail is determined to keep him her in life and will fight for him as much as she needs to. Will Abigail and Nick get a second chance at LOVE and Marriage?

I truly LOVED this book from the very first chapter. The setting and Historical times of the book are very well-researched. Abigail is a very determined to find her husband and never gave up the faith that he was still alive. Her joy and love for Nick when he is found alive is so admirable. Nick wants to be the husband he used to be but he now suffers from PTSD and is unsure of what life in the future hold. The Twists and Turn in this book kept me intrigued and I didn't put the book down until I was down reading! I am so excited to read this series as future books are released! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance. WONDERFUL BOOK!!

Reclaiming the Spy is a sweet historical fiction novel that you’re going to love reading. It’s also part of a series. It is book two of Agents of Espionage.

I love that Abigail or Abby has held out hope for ten years that her husband will return. She didn’t just decide he must have died and move on with her life. She still longs and dreams for him to return.

Nicholas feels he can’t return to Abby because of what he did during the war. He is trying to protect her by staying away. And don’t we all know how well that normally works. Eye roll. So of course it’s not going to work and he’s going to have to come out of the woodwork.

I loved this take of PTSD from the earlier wars and how one person is putting another above themselves. Nicholas is still working spy jobs but he is always also watching over Abby. He just doesn’t want to be with her for fear he’d hurt her.

But what happens when his choices are taken away and he must act?

Wonderful book! The characters were amazing and I loved how well-developed the plot and characters were. A must-read. You’ll love it!

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Abigail Emerson never gave up hope that her husband, Nicholas, would return after the war. But, after ten year she begins to lose hope that he will. When she falls violently ill on her way home from visiting the orphanage, imagine her surprise when she realizes that her rescuer is none other then Nick! Questions abound and life is not easy for either of them as they negotiate their feelings and their relationship after NIck’s absence.

Lorri Dudley handled the issue of what we call PTSD with great care, showing the effects upon not only Nick, but upon Abigail and others. Abigail demonstrates loving someone and honoring the covenant of marriage in good times as well as bad. The faith and trust that Abigail had in God was what really brought her, and ultimately Nick, through dark days. I loved seeing the faithfulness and commitment that Abigail had for Nick’s well being.

Besides Abigail, Lady Etheridge was my favorite character. Her brusque nature and forwardness made many people intimidated. But, she truly had a heart of gold and helped Abigail when others did not.

This is part of the Agents of Espionage series, but it can be read as a standalone. I am looking forward to reading more books in the series.

I was given a complimentary copy through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

The book's introductory scene happens when Nicholas Emerson and Abigail get married. Everyone is happy up until Nicholas goes off to war. The focus of the story is on this couple and how war affects them and their families. Abigail discovers that her husband has been reported missing in action shortly after kissing him goodbye and telling him she was proud to be his wife. Despite the devastating news, she is loved and supported by her family.

This story focuses on the difficulties and recovery from PTSD, a condition that was not recognized back then. The conclusion is charming and motivating despite the choices Nicholas and Abby make. This is the second book in the Agents of Espionage series. Even though II haven't read any of the other novels in this series. I never felt lost. This can be read as a standalone.

Reclaiming the Spy” is an emotionally charged second-chance story! The fast-paced plot kept me at the edge of my seat with surprises, mystery, and moments of danger. The author has delivered another compelling and memorable story in this sequel.

The book doesn’t shy away from tackling deep, heartrending moments. Abby has been separated from Nick or a decade but is determined to make things work despite the obstacles. Nick feels undeserving of her love. The exploration of PTSD, unconditional love, and compassion adds so much depth, making it easy to empathize with their struggles and triumphs.

The combination of action, romance, and emotion make this such a well-rounded and satisfying read. Be prepared for a rollercoaster ride of emotions, and don’t forget to keep tissues handy.

Scars can be a reminder of just how precious life can be.
Abigail Hartington Emerson, daughter of an earl, married just like her mother-in-law had done; a man without a title. All Abby wanted was to be a wife and mother. She had a heart for Mama Em and the orphaned children of Altonwood.
Nicholas Emerson had been a cross-eyed-kid, whom classmates bullied, who grew into a handsome kindhearted man whom the ladies noticed. Longing to prove himself and so he could give Abby what he thought she wanted, a man with a title, he enlisted and left for the army the day after they married.
Years later the war ended but Nicolas never came home. Abby still wanted children and time was running out, but would she give up on her prayers that her husband would return.
Secrets, dark shadows, a poisoning, rumors of werewolves and promiscuousness.
A cast of colorful characters from Lady Etheridge, better known as Lady Awfulridge, whom someone was trying to poison, Miss Quiller, a reproachable spinster who was hard on the orphans, Scar, the spy who lived in the shadows, gossiping towns people just to name a few..
A love story intertwined with a Who Done it.
Not to be missed!

Reclaiming the Spy by Lorri Dudley is a Christian Historical Romance. After ten years of praying for her husband’s return, Lady Abigail unexpectedly finds him again when she falls sick, and he cares for her. But the things of fairytales turn into nightmares when he tells her to forget him and move on with her life.

Nicholas Emerson married the girl of his dreams and then immediately got pressed into service for the Crown. War has ravaged his physical appearance as well as his mental state. He returns home after ten years for his mother’s funeral. He has no plans to see his wife, but that plan fails.

Lorri Dudley creates a story filled with faith, hope, charity, and, most of all, love. I found myself unable to put this book down. The book contains characters that surprise me, including one that I initially disliked but then proved to be one of my favorite characters.

So, if you enjoy Christian Historical Romances, check out Reclaiming the Spy by Lorri Dudley for yourself. I highly recommend it!

I often reserve a five-star rating for those books that really impact me in some way.

I can't say that this book did that--no spiritual epiphany or emotional breakthrough. However, I didn't want it to end. I couldn't even start reading another book that same day...I wanted to keep "talking" to the characters.

In some ways, this was a traditional regency romance...with title characters and an eventful ball. However, the bulk of the story dealt with the effects of PTSD after the Napoleonic wars, even though PTSD has gone through a number of name changes over the years, starting with coward and madness.

I loved how loyal and strong the heroine was, both in faith and in character. She was someone I could appreciate, even though she started off with saying something she never should have said. We are all human, even the best of us.

In the end, I highly recommend this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as part of a Celebrate Lit tour, but the opinions are my own.

Another really special, faith filled love story. Full of lessons to rely on God and not on your own understanding. Abby and Nick were just married when he was called into service for the Crown during the war with Napoleon. He became a valued spy and stayed away from home for 10 years until the death of his Mother. Circumstances made him reveal himself to Abby, when he had planned on leaving again. She had never stopped loving him even though she was told he was dead. Wonderful love story with a great deal of struggle for both of them, heart wrenching times. The proof of God's faithfulness shines through. Solid faith, very believable characters to get caught up with. Second book in series, but stands alone (read the first one too, you'll be glad you did!)

This is book two in the Agents of Espionage series and although they build on each other I was able to read it as a stand-alone as I had somehow missed book one. I was so glad I did as this was gobsmacking good and left me with heart palpitations. Abigail has waited ten years for her husband to return from the Peninsula War. Unbeknownst to her he has returned a broken man suffering from PTSD that could have him placed in a mental hospital permanently as in those days it was not understood as it is now. It is written with finesse and empathy and you are quickly drawn into Nicholas life and his love for his wife that he wants to protect from himself. Abigail has an undying love for her husband and a faith that gives her strength as well as compassion for the local orphans so you will quickly love her character. The romantic tension is swoon worthy and the storyline well developed and leaves you not wanting it to end. I highly recommend a fainting couch for this one.

Reclaiming the Spy is written by Lorri Dudley. This is book two in the Agents of Espionage series. I have read the first book and it’s been a wonderful series so far. This is Abigail’s story.

Abigail never gave up hope that her husband was alive. He was presumed dead after the Peninsula Wars. When he shows back up she’s shocked. However he’s been through a lot. He doesn’t think he can be the man that Abigail remembers. He’s been a spy for the war office and has seen a lot. He’s suffering from PTSD and wants to lay low and wait for his next assignment.

Abigail has such amazing faith and persistence. She had hoped for so long to be reunited with her husband. I just love how the author put in such rich historical detail. This story also has a great mix of action and suspense. The author has woven in twists and turns that you will not expect.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed reading the start of the Agents of Espionage series, Revealing the Truth, and was excited to have the second installment, Reclaiming the Spy, in my hands. I was far from being disappointed. I adored Abby’s story. I found this journey to be full of adventure and love. I was inspired by this tale and could not put it down until I was completely finished.

In my opinion, Reclaiming the Spy is a five star read. I believe other fans of clean historical fiction will love it just as much. I am eagerly awaiting for the next book in the Agents of Espionage series to see what other stories the author has in store for her fans.

I received a paperback copy of Lorri Dudley’s Reclaiming the Spy from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

I absolutely loved this book! It was the second book in the series but definitely stands alone. Nicholas weds Abigail and without even spending a moment married to her, he's called off to war. Unbeknownst to Abby, Nick is highly sought after as a spy for the Crown but presumed dead by everyone else because it's been 10 long years since he's been home, and he's been declared dead. Everyone has pressured Abby to remarry but she shuts them all down. She firmly believes that Nick is alive and will continue to wait. She's shocked when she actually sees him accidentally but he firmly tells her to forget she's seen him and leave him alone. Nick is suffering and doesn't want to drag Abby into his nightmares. What follows is true and pure love as Abby fights for her man! I loved this second chance romance so much! All the characters involved were fantastic! I highly recommend it!

Whisked off to war the day after his wedding, Nicholas is missing in action and presumed dead. Abigail refuses to believe he is gone and it would appear that her faith has stood her in good stead. However, Nick is now a highly sought after spy for the King and thus not free to return to her even after 10 years.

This wonderful story of second chances is not to be missed. There is plenty of mystery to keep you wondering on more than one front. I loved Lady Etheridge - she definitely keeps the reader guessing. The effects of war are shown in more than one area - nightmares are common. Is there any relief?

This early copy was received through WildHeart Books and BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the first book so I was really looking forward to this one. I liked that in this book we got to see what happened to Nicholas and why he vanished for so long. I loved seeing Abigail showing Nicholas how much, not only she, but God loves him. I also liked that this book showed that marriage takes work and we may think we know what may be best for the other person but can be completely wrong. I liked seeing Abigail and Nicholas’ love story grow and progress and I loved seeing Nicholas heal. I also liked some of the side characters that were sneaky. I thought they were a fun addition.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
