My life was normal. Just my mom and I, living in a small town on the East Coast. The eve of my twenty first birthday, it all changed. A father I have never known returned and took me away from all I knew. Trapped and tortured. Destined for something I knew nothing about. Little did I know, my entire life, I’d been haunted by the devil himself. He was always watching and waiting. As leader of an infamous cult in our area, this is no longer a haunting. He is here. And I’m terrified.
*This is a very dark horror forbidden romance. Does end with a HEA
Kinsley Kincaid is a long time fan of psychotic dark book boyfriends. She does not limit it to just Dark Romance but Taboo as well, yes the scandal!
She enjoys pushing boundaries, so don’t be surprised when you see this also reflected in her work. Be sure to stalk her on her socials and reader group shared with Isla Gray; Tainted N Taboo.
I was very excited to read this book but as I read this book, it was lacking something. That power to capture a reader into the story, I don't know if it makes sense but that thing was missing. I expected a lot from this book & honestly, I was just waiting when will it finish.
I think I'm going to rate this book 2.5 star. Please read trigger warnings before you read this book.
Book Review:
What happens when you are excited to celebrate your 21st birthday but the night of your b'day you end being kidnapped? What happens when the next thing you know, you are being held in a cage and you have no idea what's going on? What happens when they drag you somewhere and all you see is people wearing cloaks and masks? What happens when things starts to register but the next thing you see is going to be the one you'll never forget? What do you that can be?
Tropes & T/Ws: >> Step-siblings >> Crawl to me / Spitting / collar >> Kidn@pping / Captive >> Secret society / Cult >> Extreme Torture / Murder >> Mask/ Praise >> Blood Play >> Satan worship >> Pierced p**n / Bite mark >> Serial killer >> Mystery / Revenge >> Ends on a cliff-hanger
I liked the blurb of this story but I don't think so I'll be reading the next book.
I hated this book. I've really struggled with how to review this because there are so many good reviews and I just don't see how that's honestly possible... the whole thing is just bat shit crazy. ..if my mother, whom I loved, was murdered in a cult sacrifice on my birthday.....right in front of me, I surely wouldn't fall in instalove with the man who brutally murdered her. ..I also wouldn't fall right into bed with him and become his little assistant murderer helper person and absolutely get off on it. ...This girls dad is also the leader of said cult and wanted to marry said daughter... oh and the guy she's madly in love with.... yeah, thats her STEPBROTHER, but oh he buried mom in their yard so she can visit and talk to her mom, which she does and she hears her mom telling her basically to be with the brother because hes just so awesome. Strange family. Idk. I wanted to dnf this the whole time but stuck with it because of those highly rated reviews but nothing good ever came out of it... I'm not bashing on stepbrother lovers, just instalove with your moms murderer... like you're covered in your mom's blood that the cult bathed you in but you're just so in love with the guy who did it. I just can't wrap my mind around it.

I DNF'd at page 79. It just wasn't good. I realized it was by an author who just isn't going to work for me. I haven't liked anything she's written so far. I'm not giving any stars because had I checked she was the author, I wouldn't have read it.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this and I was thrown off almost the entire time and I loved it.
I loved not having a helpless FMC and Elijah is what every dark romance girlie loves in their MMC. He will literally ☠️ someone just for looking at you.
Kinsey’s done it again with an amazing taboo and gory book! I loved the plot and the characters and how culty it was, the cults always know how to get really crazy 🤪
An unhinged, non blood-related step siblings, cult society, Erotic Horror / Dark Forbidden Romance?? I immediately said “Sign 👏🏼 me 👏🏼 up.”
In this story Rain, our female main character, has been kidnapped by a mysterious man she feels a connection to—who also happens to be the local cult leaders stepson, AKA Rains’ long lost father (Say what??? Wild right?!) Once she’s in their midst all the truth and sinister plans for her all come to light, and with it, the realization that her life will never be the same again.
Look, I was willing to free fall right into this story, ready to uncover the level of depravity this was about to deliver, but the hook was never cast. That one element needed to hook me as a reader and get me invested in this story or its characters never happened. I feel this mostly happened due to the writing. It felt like it was choppy, jumpy, or like things just kinda happened out of nowhere without a smooth transition— is the best way I can describe it.
With our character Rain, I was not a fan of the immediate acceptance of her situation. Like girl what??? Did we not just experience the same thing or am I tripping, because I was there too?!! 😭 But again, I think I had to do with the writing. I just needed more than the “instant connection” reason to validate her decision-making.
With Elijah, the ingredients were there. I was already invested in this man from the book promo alone, he was set up and ready to go from page one. However, I just did not feel invested in either character as much as I wanted to. I usually like to know what is the driving force behind this level of depraved psychotic behavior, like what is that makes this character tick? I did, however, love the soft vulnerable side of Elijah towards Rain and his “little bat” name for her as well.
Despite all that, I still think anyone who enjoys a dark forbidden horror romance with an unhinged MMC would still enjoy this one, especially the 🌶️ 🥵 and dark cult elements as well. Looks like there will be a second part to this story so hopefully we get to dig in more into these characters.
Elijah is a psychopath, he loves to unalive people and he’s brutal and violent. He’s the go-to hitman for the devil worshipping cult called The Chapel. He gives me Evan Peters in AHS vibes, maybe just because he has skeleton face tattoos. He’s way more emo
On her 21st birthday, Rain is kidnapped by said cult and intended as the cults next heir. The cult is run by her long lost father and he intends to make her his wife… creepy right? The cult is untouchable, police in their pockets and death to anyone who opposes them.
I thought the plot itself was good. Cult leader using his power to exert his own agenda, diabolical man, revenge; I could roll with the whole story and Elijah was pretty hot! Sure he needs therapy but whatever!
But the thing is, I just didn’t like Rain at all! She seemed to have no personality other than Elijah’s girl and she just felt like another dumb 21 year old getting way too attached to a guy. I don’t like the instant devotion trope; following him around and trying to be like him just because he gives her attention. It wasn’t even because he’s her step brother, hey I’m ok with that, but she just wasn’t for me.
The spice was really good though, I liked the scenes! Dominance, praise, pain and pleasure… that kinda thing. 5🌶️
The wording and descriptions at some times seemed kind of juvenile and amateurish, but I suppose that’s just because they’re younger. “Hot as shit” “called him on his shit” everything being described as black… we get it, you’re spooky.
I also didn’t like the depiction of a satanic worship. I am aware that stereotypes exist and a lot of history uses satanism as an excuse for evil doing, murder, manipulation etc etc… Satanism is taboo still I guess, especially if you don’t understand it. It just seemed ignorant and helps perpetuate a negative image. Maybe check out the Satanic Temple in Salem and see what good work they do

"I only dr!p for you, I only crawl for you, I only submit to you."
Unhinged and hot af. Those are two ways I'd describe this book. I have had my eye on this author for a while, as I kept seeing her pop up on socials and she got me curious. So I got myself a couple of her books, but hadn't gotten around to reading them yet. Then I got the chance to read this book and woah!! No wonder her name kept popping up. I devoured this book 🖤
This is a dark romance/erotic horror story about step siblings. Be sure to check your trigger warnings before you dive in. Elijah and Rain are completely unhinged (here for it) and there are graphic murder scenes in this book. I won't give you any further spoilers, just go read this book if you are into:
I made a New Year resolution to actually allow myself to DNF books and I’ve never been happier to delete a book off my kindle.
The writing? Horrible. There was absolutely nothing that drew me into the book.
The characters? HORRIBLE. You’re telling me, that the MMC murders her mom in front of her during a ritual sacrifice, but less than 48 hours later I get this quote from the FMC:
“Deep in my soul, I know this is right. He is where I am supposed to be. My mom would agree, he is my safe place now. Our connection is undeniable.”
EXCUSE ME?!? I don’t think your mom would agree after being murdered, thanks though. Their “insta-love” wasn’t even written great. I could see the MMC being obsessed with saving her, but for her to instantly feel their “bond” so strong immediately?! I just couldn’t take it anymore.
At first read the trigger warnings before starting this book. This book was gifted as an arc to me in exchange for an honest review.
The book started with a girl named Rain she is living with her mom and doesn´t know her biological dad. She works at a restaurant. On her birthday she is kidnapped by a boy named Elijah and brought to a really dark place. The people in that place are a cult.
Im not gonna tell too much because im not going to spoil the book. This was something new to me. In the first few chapters i was like: what am i reading and i was close to drop this book because i had the feeling this was not going to be for me. But somehow i was drawn to the book and i wanted to continue. And im glad i did! i really loved the relationship between Rain en Elijah!
There are some points that could've been better in my opinion. I wish we knew more of Maxton and his background and also from the mother of Elijah. I missed some background and information about the cult too. I feel like we don't know enough. The spice was very hot in this book!
I really loved it and i am very thankfull to be a reviewer of this book.
It's not that guy in the mask you need to be afraid of. It's the one behind the mask that should terrify you, little Bat.
Well first of all, this was DARK and horrific and utter deliciousness! Definitely one you need to check the trigger warnings for, Kinsley's books always hit the mark in terms of dark romance perfection. The two MCs were just as unhinged as each other, the chemistry was off the charts hot, and they just worked together perfectly in the most disturbing way. I love dark stepsibling romances and this one ticked all the boxes, with them being the best vigilantes but also the best bad guys, and I ate it all up! The plot was developed really well, I felt I was on the journey with them, and I loved every second of it! Overall an amazing read.
What To Expect: ⨳ MF Dark Romance ⨳ Stepsiblings ⨳ Cults ⨳ Psychopathic MMC ⨳ Cliffhanger ⨳ Tons of Triggers
Nothing can happen to you tomorrow. Do you get that? Without you, there is no me.
❤︎ ARC provided in exchange for an honest review ❤︎
Rain is working in a bar, when her coworker informs her that a guy is staring at her. He has bat wings tattoo’d on him, the symbol of a cult that is in Blackwood, a few miles away. That night she goes home and goes to bed, but she is awoken to that stranger in her room, he puts a cloth over her mouth and she blacks out. Rain wakes up in a cell, but the stranger isn’t there. Elijah is the stranger from the bar. Rain was promised to him by the leader of the cult. Rain is led into an open room where there is a group of people in cloaks and masks. The leader tells her ‘Rain, my girl. Welcome home’. The leader of the cult is her Dad, and he is married to Elijah‘s mum! Rain has been brought to the room to witness a sacrifice to ‘The dark one’. How will Elijah react when Rain is to be taken from him?
This is my first book by Kinsey and I had such high hopes for this book but unfortunately it just didn’t hit the mark for me. It was still a fun read and I enjoyed what the characters got up too but I think if there was more plot and more fight from the fmc, I’d of liked this book a lot more.
One trope I really can’t get behind is instalove. I just can’t do it, it stresses me, especially when it isn’t done right and that’s how it felt in this book.
Rain came across so naive, and it honestly grated me so much! Something horrific was done to someone she loved, and she automatically was like ‘I trust you’ and was happy to be with him and was proper instalove. I’m sorry, what?! 😅 I don’t care if all he did was accidentally kick my dog.. I’d of been a bit more cautious than she was and have a bit more fight against him 🙈 There needed to be a part where he had to earn her trust after something like that, you don’t just hand it out whether you’re connected to his energy or not 🙈 Then there was a part where there was blood coming from a victims mouth and hearing a cracking noise.. she had no idea where it was coming from, and Elijah had to explain to her like she was a child that it was his teeth cracking and breaking🤦🏼♀️ How could she not put 2+2 together 🤷🏼♀️ This just kind of made her character seem really immature and I couldn’t gel with her as she fell flat for me.
I did enjoy Elijah’s character and tbh he is what made the book. I enjoyed how protective he was over Rain and that he would do anything to keep her safe. I liked how he was teaching her to embrace her dark side.
I did enjoy reading about the killings, I found this fun and so creative!
With regards to the plot, I would have enjoyed there to be more danger against them. This is a cult and it would have been more exciting/gripping, if they had of tried coming to get Rain or to take out Elijah. However, the plot felt very easy for them going to take everyone down, it didn’t feel anything got in their way to make it challenging.
I was so looking forward to this book and I am really sad I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked too. I definitely want to give Sutton Asylum a read as heard good things! I will keep an eye out for the second book as now the characters are together, I may enjoy it better!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving the ARC didn't affect my opinion of the book. This book, for me, was somewhere between 3.25 and 3.5 ⭐️
Haunted By the Devil is an unhinged erotic horror/romance novella that delves into the depths of obsession with a satanic cult backdrop and a hero with a murky past. I usually criticize the fact that the word psycho is used somewhat inflationary by authors, but this time, I can say: Prepare to meet your new favorite psychopath, Elijah Sinclair. Elijah is a force to be reckoned with. He is the right-hand man and the instrument of no good until he is sent to take the one girl that would change his entire world. Meanwhile, the FMC Rain, leading a relatively ordinary existence, is drawn to the unknown stranger despite the danger he poses. She is uncertain about her place in the world until she is taken in by The Chapel cult's dark and twisted world.
Although the book is undeniably entertaining, it does have some flaws. The cult framework, which was incredibly fascinating, had the potential to be a powerful tool in creating suspense. It should have felt like a constant looming threat to the main characters, a source of thrill and uncertainty. However, the cult setting was weakened too quickly in order to highlight Elijah's heroism, even though he was portrayed in a rather anti-heroic manner.
I really enjoyed the way the male main character fiercely protected his 'little bat' and was ruthless towards anyone who crossed him in the novella. However, I struggled to connect with the female main character and felt that the character development fell a bit flat. It seems like the author may have started with a clear idea of a strong male character and a particular setting to showcase his strengths. However, as the story progressed, the focus seemed to shift to making us like the new psychopath in town. As a result, the female character, Rain, was clearly overshadowed by Elijah and ultimately appeared underdeveloped. I believe Rain's quick adjustment to Elijah's lifestyle could have been balanced by a more vigorous initial struggle and a push-and-pull between them before accepting that her inner darkness matches his. This would have given Rain the much-needed emotional character depth.
Despite these minor flaws, “Haunted by the Devil” is a gripping read for fans of dark and twisted romance. The book leaves hints of more to come, particularly regarding Elijah's unresolved issues with his past, promising an exciting second installment! Be sure to check for triggers before diving in!
3.75⭐️ This was some dark depraved shit but I loved it.
If youve read Haunting Adeline, Rain, our FMC, starts out like Adeline, but by the end she's Sibby.
Rain goes home after work on the eve of her 21st birthday to be kidnapped and taken to a cult. There she meets her father for the first time where he orders the murder of her mother before her very eyes.
Elijah, her step brother, wielding the knife, then saves Rain from the possessive claim her new-found father demands from her.
Together, Elijah and Rain, unleash unhinged horror on the members of the Chapel in revenge while enjoying depravity with one another
i must be 𝖎𝖓 𝖒𝖞 𝖍𝖔𝖗𝖗𝖔𝖗 𝖊𝖗𝖔𝖙𝖎𝖈𝖆 𝖊𝖗𝖆! this is my first kinsley kincaid book and this won't be the last! I'm obsessed with Elijah and his psychotic ways! I cannot wait to see more of him in the future books! E + Rain is just ugh so perfect! the step siblings trope is superior!!! the spice was spicin'! there was one specific scene had my jaw drop on the floor ☠️
also, there were someone specific in this book had me wanting to throw hands, if i everrrr catch this person it's on sight 💀
i can't wait to read more horror erotic! it's so fun and different!
Audiobook Review Rain’s life is turned upside down when she is kidnapped from her bed only to become a prisoner of a cult leader who turns out to be her own father. Elijah is about us unhinged as they come, so he doesn’t bat an eye when tasked by the cult leader, Master, to kidnap Rain and bring her to him. I loved this dark romance! The spice was fantastic, but I also really enjoyed the story and the connection between Rain and Elijah. Although they were brought together in a very unconventional way, it was clear the two were meant to be! Elijah brought out Rain’s fierceness, while Rain brought out Elijah’s softer side. For such a dark book their love had me swooning. The audio is so good! Ash Kingsley did a great job bringing Rain to life, she had this innocence to her voice that was perfect for Rain. Bryant Walker must be made to voice unhinged MMCs because I can’t imagine anyone else voicing Elijah. Both narrators gave incredible performances and I highly recommend the audio!
this was beyond fucked up and i've read a lot of dark stuff but this whole taboo-romance ish i'm really not a fan of... (step-)brother ? hellooooo? (tough i have to say they didn't find out about this until a few days after meeting (fmc) the mmc knew that from the beginning and still persued her. WEIRD BEHAVIOR!!!!!!!
BESIDES why tf would you fall in love with the dude that killed ur mom? never mind that he is a psychopath and that he did not mean the kill and was just following orders but wtf?
Additionally why was there always blood and death involved in a lot of yalls fucking? HELLOOOOO??? who smashes over their fathers corpse (whom you slaughtered in cold blood as well)? very morose. very morbid. (i skipped those parts bc ???? - but then i skipped most sex parts bc i was only interested in the story, which was kind of a cult horror story)
this whole bit with the feeding of each others energies and being able to read them was a bit over the top as well bc it seemed too magical and this book was not set in a magical world was it?
safe to say i didn't enjoy this but at least the writing was good

This was an absolute whirlwind of a book and I was absolutely trapped in it! Rain and her mother are taken by a cult to become their next offering to the Dark One. While Rain’s mother is offered by her step brother, Elijah, Rain escapes her fate because the Dark One has chosen her to be the Master’s (and her father) new wife. But Elijah has a connection with her and steals her away to become his as he was promised when he took her. A dark, twisted, and very wild revenge story, Haunted By The Devil took me down a path I never knew I wanted. Rain finds her inner strength and passion with a fire and Elijah finds he isn’t as emotionless as he once believed. Make sure to check your trigger warnings with this one but trust me when I say it is one you will be thinking about forever!
Elijah is an absolute psychopath… and I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 He is unhinged in the best way and all my morals are out the window because I swear he has became my next book boyfriend Now we talk about Rain. She turned into a complete bada$$, and it was amazing! She matched Elijah’s unhinged completely. They are perfect for each other. I love some cult theme books so I knew I was gonna love this story, and I did. I cannot wait for more because I’m am not even close to being done with Elijah and Rain! 10/10 read 🖤
4/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️ 4/5🎧 Yall, this book is WILD! Look at her and die; touch her and die a slow, brutal death. It has all those dark lil kinks that us deviants love. It has a psycho masked stalker that ends up obsessive and possessive over his little bat. When he delivers Rain and her mom to the cult he entertains, Rain is promised to him. But when The Master goes back on his word and tries to keep Rain for himself, all hell breaks loose. Elijah will stop at nothing and unalive anyone that even has a hand in harming or taking her from him. Now, the two are on a revenge arc against the cult that took Rain's mom and threatens to separate them. And damn do they burn shit down. I'll never look at a vegetable peeler the same way again.
Not only is Haunted by the Devil super fast pace and full of blood and various blades, it is freaking hotttt. Elijah has a pierced peen and loves to fuck over in the blood of his enemies and over the bodies of the dying. And let's not forget to mention his dirty mouth as he takes what he wants from his little bat.
If 'couples who unalive together stay together' is your vibe, this book is for you.
Ash Kingsley and Bryant Walker did an excellent job voicing these characters in duet.
Well, what an experience this was! I loved every second of this dark and sinfully delicious story, and it was made even better by the narrators who brought the characters to life perfectly.
Elijah and Rain are 100% made for each other. From the second they see each other, there is an undeniable pull, and the attraction just grows from there.
This is a dark and twisted spicy quick read with lots of twists and turns and all of the unhinged characters you could ever need.
Definitely check the trigger warnings and then sit back and enjoy.
2.75⭐ Oh boy. Could've been good. The writing didn't do it for me. Something was missing. I just read... I wasn't into the story. I'm so disappointed. It could've been so, so good... And Rain? Please. Worst FMC ever. She's a freaking puppy. Elijah? Not too bad...
This read was unhinged but at the same time hot😅 Elijah is a walking red flag but you know what? That’s okay with me. It was certainly okay with Rain😂
Very fast pace. I loved the chemistry between Rain and Elijah, sure the man offed her mom but she felt comfortable and safe with him… at least he buried her close so Rain could visit her. I liked how well they balanced each other, Elijah learning how to be more soft while Rain learned how to be ruthless. They’re perfect together.
I could have done without the brother and sister comments, but it didn’t take away from the overall read.
Let me start by saying both the MMC and FMC are crazy in my humble opinion. The MMC just commits an atrocious act and she’s just like oh …. Okay I understand it’s the other guys fault (which technically it was) but that’s when I was like yup this chicks crazy too.
I believe Rain always had this instinct in her and Elijah just awoken it in her. I very much believe in energy so the way they connected, loved it. It was instant. She could basically feel him, idc what anyone says that type of stuff is real.
Also, I loved the balance between the storyline and spice, perfect combo!
Looking for a dark forbidden romance, unhinged characters, kidnapping, masks, blood play, piercings/tattoos, weapons, spitting, praise, gore, step siblings, secret clut, (alot of heavy themes throughout) then look no further, Rain and Elijah are your perfect match. Relatively short so I read this in a couple of hours, super grateful to have been given an ARC of this book.
Kinsley Kincaid has done a phenomenal job with Haunted by the Devil. Elijah Sinclair is a psychopath and he can be MY psychopath.
This book is full of cult horror, gore, spice and a connection between the MC's that makes the reader fully engrossed in their story. Their deep connection manifests fast and hard and their need to protect each other is intense as are they. Elijah lets Rain spread her wings and fly, while he stands next to her. The story of the cult is interesting and both MC's are tied to it in different ways.
Once I am sure she is asleep, I whisper, "Take care of my soul, it's yours now."
Please read TW’s before starting this book. Your mental health matters.
"I'm always keeping you" "Promise?" "Promise."
*I received an ARC and am leaving an honest and voluntary review*
