Riley Bishop couldn’t be happier. Her daughter Sadie is in therapy and starting to heal from her ordeal, her son Oliver is doing well in school, and her business is booming. On top of that, Tucker Shaw has unexpectedly stayed in their lives, and neither of them can deny the growing attraction between them. But the past is about to catch up with both of them, when the three men involved in Sadie’s kidnapping are brought to trial. Tucker is called in on the high-threat judicial proceedings when it’s discovered that the three men are also tied to a large-scale international trafficking organization. Unexpectedly, it’s Riley who holds the key to putting the men away for good, but her decision to cooperate could cost her everything. At the same time, Tucker has his own secrets, and when his past is exposed, it threatens to unravel the new life he desires to build with Riley.

The Secrets We Keep is book 2 in the Shadow Stalkers series and picks up shorty after The Lies We Believe (book 1) ended. While, in my opinion, book 2 wasn’t as suspenseful as the first book it’s still a good story that kept me guessing what would happen next. The ending definitely has me ready for book 3!
Lisa Harris never disappoints! Book 2 in the Shadow Stalker Series continues the eerie physiological thriller vibe that began in Book 1. Riley Bishop lost her husband, dealt with the kidnapping of her daughter and is now trying to put her life back together as she and her children heal from all the trauma. She is able to breathe once again and not look over her shoulder. A long-anticipated date with Tucker Shaw, U.S. Deputy Marshall has her looking forward to an evening of relaxation and normalcy. But it isn't to be - and things are off and running once again as Riley is hounded by those who think she has the prize they so desperately want. I couldn't put this down and you won't be able to either!
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars) Read: July 2024 Format: Kindle e-book Challenge Prompt: CFG’s “a novel from your favourite genre” (suspense is one of my faves!)
Book #74 of 2024: I’ve been excited to read book 2 ever since I finished book 1 last spring, shortly after it was released!! This one released yesterday but I had just started another book. However, I managed to sneak it in today to end July with my favourite book of the month! It was well worth the wait but I’m SO glad the next two will be out before the year’s end.
I love that this novel, and the first, have a blend and balance of the psychological thriller’s ‘twisty-bendy’ parts, personal struggles, suspense, regular/everyday things, and romance. It winds you up and gets your adrenalin going and then you have time to breathe for a while. Normal life stuff happens. I respect that because any suspense or psychological thrillers that just have that high suspense/thriller aspect all of the time become tiresome fast. There’s no build up when it’s constant. There are few normal life moments to keep it real. However, this author weaves it all together to keep the reader engaged and invested.
Not only do we continue with Riley and her story, we learn more about Tucker’s. We see their insecurities, self-imposed guilt, doubts, attraction for one another, their grit, etc. We enjoy Riley’s kids again. We see the amazing friend that Melody is and how strong the human spirit can be under great adversity. The author points toward God and growing in our dependence on Him through all the things life can throw at us.
This is a stellar series that keeps you on your toes but also has beautiful and thoughtful moments to appreciate equally as much. I strongly recommend this series! I’ll be purchasing the next two when they come out. While I haven’t read everything by Lisa Harris yet, I believe this is her best work!
It had been a while since I'd read the first book in the series but it wasn't really a problem as Harris provides sufficient outline for the reader to catch up.
Riley Bishop wonders whether she's losing her mind. Even though she spent some time in a mental health facility recovering after the trauma of her husband being murdered and he involved in a number of criminal activities including embezzlement, Riley questions if it cured her. She's struggling to discern the sometimes fine line between reality and the mind's ability to skew it especially when suffering from PTSD.
Riley thought the worst was over, until suddenly the nightmare of her husband's infidelities and criminal activities come rushing back. Someone wants the money he apparently embezzled and believe Riley knows where it is. Does she?
Tucker Shaw is a hunky US Marshall who is still grappling with his childhood trauma of losing his brother, Wyatt, in strange circumstances. He's grown attached to Riley and chooses to involve himself in the mystery of this lady who is demanding Riley handover the $25million or else.
Like all Harris stories, it moves fast and it's very easy to keep turning pages. There were moments that felt a bit rushed that took away some of the tension for me and made it a little predictable.
The story ends well and is set up for a chilling 3rd episode which I'm looking forward to reading soon.
"The lines between reality and imagination aren't always sharply defined . . . "
What had just happened? Riley Bishop had no proof (didn't the woman refer to herself as a ghost?). . . . even after a visit to the hospital there was no evidence of drugs in her system (why was she still so disoriented?) and the gallery security feeds didn't show anyone following her into the ladies room (but that conversation had seemed so real). Evidence, or lack thereof aside, what hurt the most was Deputy US Marshal Tucker Shaw's reaction; appropriate concern with shadows of doubt . . . was their first date really going to be their last . . . . after all they had been through together?
Determined to find answers, Riley takes off on her own. Her late husband had been quite a hustler, embezzling millions of dollars which were never recovered, while apparently cheating on his wife in the process; it is obvious that someone thinks Riley has access to that fortune. Quickly realizing that she is in over her head, Riley teams back up with Tucker, only to be taken on a wild ride, endangering both of their lives and hearts in the process.
"God doesn't always take away the pain we face on the journey, but He does walk alongside us." . . . even if that path is through "the valley of the shadow of death".
Quite the story! Don't miss reading a single page! (especially the last one)
I did not enjoy this chapter of this series. There was too much of the characters talking about their feelings, their faith or lack thereof, why they can't get into a relationship, what happened in the last book, and not nearly enough story. The actual story could have been told in 150 pages and was anti-climactic.
Had I not already started the Enemy Between Us, I would probably give up on this series.
It has been a year since her husband's death, and Riley Bishop is finally going on a first date with Tucker Shaw. However, things don't turn out as they had hoped, and once again, their lives are in danger.
The Secrets We Keep is the second Shadow Stalkers book by Lisa Harris. I'm still enjoying this series and look forward to reading the next one.
This book was a little shallow, jumping from one important thing to the next in too light of a way. The storyline was interesting but the book was too short, sort of undeveloped. I have to mention the terrible editing as there were missing word, extra words and wrong sentences.
It’s got a strong storyline but I feel the wrap up for Riley’s side of the story is kind of abrupt and left me thinking “surely there’s more to this story and doesn’t end like that”, but sure enough, it does. I didn’t hate it, but it just came suddenly and halted real quick.
Whoa! I'm gobsmacked. Just...whoa! This second Shadow Stalkers novel is just as gripping as the first with the same kind of jaw dropping cliffhanger ending. Definitely a series to read in order. A psychosocial thriller that kept my heart rate all the way through and now I'm an emotional mess with a huge need to read the next book immediately! Off to do just that!
The beginning was great. Intriguing events happened during their first real date that made you wonder if Riley really was crazy (or not). The storyline remained good throughout the book and again I was looking forward to the next book in the series. I also liked that Tucker's past story was resolved.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was great!
This second book in this series is every bit as captivating as the first book. It keeps you guessing and very hard to book down. I read this two books in two days. I had trouble setting them aside to get supper cooked. Lisa Harris you are an awesome Christian author.
Great mystery- left with a cliff hanger! Only 1weird discrepancy…. Earlier in the story, the hero’s dad helps on a stakeout as he is a retired detective. Later he was introduced to his girlfriend ( our main character) as a retired CEO of a financial institution…?? I’m surprised this was not caught in editing!
This second book in the series was much better than the first in my opinion! I was on the edge of my seat and wanted to know what was going to happen. Ending was a cliffhanger!

This Series has been Amazing & I read this book in less than 2 Days!! I cannot wait to see what happens in the Next Book!! Lisa Harris is one Amazing Author!!
