The twisted tale continues. It's tough to say much without a spoiler.

Glad there is one more in the series.

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars)
Read: October 2024

Series: Shadow Stalkers, #3 of 4
Format: Kindle e-Book
Challenge: EOW’s “and independently published book”- - read anytime in 2024 option - (read in October)

Book #101 of 2024: Another fantastic instalment to this awesome series. I started reading it last night and ended up finishing about 1:45am.

I could feel Riley’s absolute exhaustion and fed-up-ed-ness (invented word!). It got to the point where she channeled it into putting an end to all of it. She put the energy into ultimately protecting her kids.

The back and forth about who was honest and who lied, who was bad and who was good, takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride. This book has more frequent intensity than the second book, which had a great balance, yet it was done in a way that didn’t become tiresome. Riley kept her wits about her despite the mental anguish and questions she had. She used her critical thinking skills.

I am really looking forward to the fourth and final book in this series!

Harris never disappoints. The pace she sets is always great and keeps you turning pages, quickly! Riley receives a shocking phone call in the midst of a happy family moment. Her relationship with Tucker Shaw, the US Marshall, has begun to move beyond law enforcement and friendship. Even Riley's 2 kids, Sadie and Oliver, can see a time when the 4 of them could become a family. And then this phone call rocks Riley.

The plot thickens as Riley discovers what she's believed for the last 12 months about her husband, Lucas, is false. This sets up a series of dangerous situations for Riley as well as making both Tucker and herself question their feelings for the other.

The action is good, the suspense tense and the authorities are struggling to play catchup in identifying the moles within their organisations and where exactly the $25million has gone to. Not to mention the whereabouts of Jas Krueger, the apparent mastermind.

A couple of the scenarios felt a little far fetched and needed a bit more explanation (eg, Morrison's) and the story comes to an exciting conclusion on the Tucker/Riley relationship front.

And then Tucker shows Riley a photo ... setting us up for the final conclusion in book 4 which I'm going to start immediately.

Maybe it's my 40 years, but Riley drove me up the wall in this one! Her seesawing between whether or not she can trust Tucker, whether or not she can believe her manipulative husband, made it feel like I was losing my mind. I usually love everything that Lisa writes, but this one was rough.
I prefer reading print, but could only find this series as audiobooks. I ended up listening to this one at a faster speed because I just wanted to get through it as quickly as possible. Especially because there also seemed to be quite a bit of overlapping content from the first two books... I'm not sure why we had to relive the same memories over and over again, which I also didn't expect from this author.
The good points? The story moved forward. Lies were revealed. And it seemed like maybe Riley ended up more stable in her faith. I hope! If she has significantly more episodes of indecision in book 4, I will absolutely regret that I can't throw a physical book against the wall.

better but but great

This book was actually better than the second one, IMO. It’s a short and quick read, but I just cannot get past some of the typos or punctuation errors. One sentence was completely missing words. I read and reread thinking it was just me, but it wasn’t. The writing sometimes is very jumpy. In one sentence we are in one location talking about moving locations and then the very next sentence we are in that new place, no break in text or separation, anything to note the sudden jump in scenes.

The storyline itself I found better and more fluid than the second book. I’ll definitely still read the fourth when it’s released.

Awesome!

Lisa Harris doesn't disappoint! This series of books held my attention and delighted me from word one. Such a good mixture of intrigue, faith and family. It's so nice to read good, clean books with no bad language. Authors that can keep your attention without the nastiness are true authors. Wonderful read.

I read the first three books in this series back to back (well listened to them) and now I've come to a screeching halt because I have to wait two whole days before the fourth book comes out! Ack!!!! How will I survive? This is a riveting series - full of thriller vibes but not creepy. More psychological mind games kind of suspense which kept me emotionally on edge all the way through! Phew! This author knows how to torment her characters and readers (in the nicest way, of course!) Can't wait until Tuesday to find out what's next for Riley and Tucker!

Lisa doesn't disappoint!

Lisa Harris is a master of suspense, she gets you thinking you know what's coming next and you turn the page to another question, now, who really did it? Lisa will keep you in the dark until she's ready to release the surprise!

This was such a fantastic psychological thriller. Definitely did not see certain parts coming - much of this plot was completely unexpected. I really have enjoyed this series, and I am glad that there will be one more book!

A great series. I couldn’t put these down without waiting until I had time to move into the next book. I’m looking forward to the final book. Appreciate the Christian insights.

Terrible, she could have done all three books in one and cut out 1/2 of the characters telling you how they feel

"Riles? . . . I recognize the voice but it can't be . . . "

Riley Bishop's husband was dead, but his voice on the phone was very much alive. It was all so confusing, forcing Riley to make a split-second decision whether or not to meet the presumed alive and persuasive Lucas at a pre-determined location. Just when her life and the lives of her two children had begun to revolve around a new normal, which included Deputy U. S. Marshall Tucker Shaw. . . . . Riley's nightmare had awoken to reality.

"You don't have to do this alone."

With its confounding, disconcerting and perplexing plot twists, this psychological thriller is custom made for the avid reader who loves to get lost in a story.

So I really enjoyed the 1st and 2nd book but I was disappointed by this one. There was too much overlap in the beginning of the same dialog from the end of book 2 (maybe this was highlighted because I listened to the books back to back).
Honestly, throughout the book I was just really annoyed by Riley. I understand her wanting answers but it's be months since she met Tucker and she still doesn't trust him? 🙄
Glad to have more answers to the storyline but there's also more questions. I just feel it's time for this series to wind up and come to a close.
Also there was a lot more about religion in this book. Is this book in the religious genre? It just threw me off a bit.

I listened to the audiobook. Same narrator as the 1st 2 books and she did a great job!

The Enemy Between Us is the third Shadow Stalkers book by Lisa Harris. The story picks up right where the previous one left off. While Deputy US Marshal Tucker Shaw is considering proposing to Riley Bishop, she learns her husband is alive and wants to meet with her.

I didn't enjoy this part of the series as much as I did the first two books. I got impatient with Riley still not trusting Tucker. However, I am looking forward to seeing what comes next for the couple.

I purchased a paperback copy of this book.
