The big day has arrived. Hali Waverly is finally getting the surgery she so desperately needs. Her boyfriend Gray Hunter is determined to be by her side for it. She thinks she’s ready for it. Is she, though? The surgery itself goes off without a hitch. Hali’s recovery is another story. Ceding control of her beloved tiki bar to her brother and her boyfriend’s brother only amps up her anxiety. Things get worse when a storm hits, and it’s of the magical variety instead of the natural. When a body is found in the aftermath, things are bad. Things get worse when the body is identified as belonging to a local pack member, and the last person seen with the woman is Gray’s mother. Helene, of course, denies being up to anything nefarious. Unfortunately for her, Hali is in on her big secret, and it’s time to share it. Hali thought the hardest thing in the world would be the surgery. She was wrong. Now she has to tell the man she loves about his mother’s betrayal and keep him from cutting his parents out of his life forever because of it. It’s not just the pack closing in, though. The dark merrow are also making their move. Hali’s small sliver of beach is about to become very crowded. Even though this is the exact worst time for a war, Hali finds herself embroiled in one. One side will fall forever. Hali wants to be on the winning team because if she’s not, they’ll all die. The big battle is here.
Hali finally has her surgery nd the Merrow make their move.
I only give this four stars as the post surgery recovery is quite inaccurate, speaking as a person who he he joint replacement surgery it is no walk in the park. No mention is made of the risk of infection and with Hali living on the beach thiswould be high risk, then they have Hali walking without a stick.crutch or walker after only eight days or so again not happening. Apart from the new hip lots of tendons, ligaments and muscles have to learn how to move properly again, and that is extremely painful as are the exercises. As for walking on the beach unaided, I'm not sure, with hip.replacement surgery there is a risk that you can pop the hip out of the joint and walking on the beach would definitely provide plenty of opportunities for this.to happen. But.....it's fiction so ..................... Also I have to say the Dark Merrow get taken out far too easily in my opinion, this same thing just happened.in the Hannah Hickock series a bit villain defeated easuuily..........
Hali runs her tiki bar with unswerving dedication, so stepping away for critical hip surgery is terrifying. Letting her sweet shifter boyfriend Gray be her support is just as terrifying too since she is fiercely independent, but she goes through the surgery and makes it with flying colors.
The recovery process is tougher though (would be for anyone, right?) but added to the physical pain and therapy (ugh and uggggh) is that family members are running Halis much loved bar and she can’t get anywhere near it with the bum hip to check on it. And for the control fiend that she is, it makes her crazzzzzy, no matter how she attempts to disguise it.
So when an unexpected magical storm hits the beach, Hali demands that Gray takes her to the bar to see the damage and assess the bar. Unfortunately Hali also spots a dead body, and it is a local pack member…and Hali has to tell Gray his mom’s secret and allll hell busts loose once it is revealed.
Unfortunately Gray’s moms betrayal is tied with the supernatural merrows and their determination to kill Hali and take over the beach, and then the world- crazy but true. Add in that Russell, Grays former pack Alpha now wants Gray back in the Pack and there are strannnngggge things happening- and all involve Gray and Hali.
GREAT read, wonderful story and a satisfying finishing and a totally worthwhile read
Why is Gray gatekeeping and gaslighting Hali? All information about Hali’s bar is funneled through him daily and he decides what she needs to know? Are you flipping kidding me? She had hip surgery for pity sake! it’s not like she’s on her deathbed. There’s no reason staff shouldn’t call her daily with updates.
Gray is further isolating Hali by not taking her to the Salty Cauldron. She’s 10 days in to recovery and is able to walk short distances? Either go in the dune buggy or freaking carry her (I mean, Gray already infantilizes Hali on a regular basis.)
I am bothered by the conversation Gray had with Andrew in which he decided that he and Hali would move into a house and then he’d use the villa as an office. The villa that belongs to Hali. I don’t have high hopes that as I continue reading Hali will smack him down.
Gray just had an explosive temper tantrum in which he yelled, stomped, and slammed the door so hard the paintings on the wall rattled, and what did Hali want to do? She wanted, “…to chase after him and make things better.” THIS IS AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP, PEOPLE!
Hali is sore from physical therapy and wants a heating pad for the pain. But Gray knows better and makes her use ice.
This is an action packed paranormal cozy mystery series. If fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. A young witch who owns a tiki bar on a resort property because the owner ran into with the golf cart and injured her hip. She worked a deal where she has a condo on the property and owns the tiki bar. Free and clear And irrelevant of what’s going on at the resort. She also happens to be a witch and she is dating a shifter who is a private investigator. The beginning was a bit rocky but they soon became close and began dating and fell in love. Together they battle against evil paranormal that are trying to cause issues in their town St. Petersburg Florida. For a little while they have been fighting the who are basically a type of siren but they are the Apex version of them. In this book everything is about to become intense and come to ahead. Read and see what happens who is on his side and what friends or enemies will fall or emerge victorious. Very entertaining and action pack series. Check it out.
We've been waiting for this since the golf cart hit Hali in the first chapter of the first book. Personally I'm glad there weren't medical complications, although I would still like to meet the shaman Gray found. I like seeing more coven involvement; I like seeing character development with Rusty, Jesse, and Helene; I am interested to see what happens with the pink hotel. The series seems ready to proceed without Hali being hobbled. It does look like Hart is turning her into one of her overpowered magical heroines, but as long as she keeps coming up with fresh plot twists, I will probably keep reading them (until they get married and she ends the series).
It's hard to talk about what I liked about this book with out spoilers. Pros, I am glad she went threw recuperating and just didn't bounce back like it was nothing. I also liked that the last fight scene didn't go on and on and on. I really like this book! Would I recommend it? I would recommend the whole series starting with book one! Now for the cons, the only one I have is I wish it was told why or how she's getting more powerful. I hope it is explained in the next book which I can't wait to read!
Hali had surgery and is in her rehab period. There is murder on the beach during a magical storm. Gray finds out about his mother's deal with the merrow. Gray's ex pack leader, Russell, puts in an appearance and is up to no good. I liked reading more coven involvement, the additional development of the Rusty character and Vin involvement. The merrow show down was anti-climactic and disappointing by itself. Interested to see where this goes in the next book with all the loose ends left behind in this book.
I couldn’t put this down. After a long series of blocks Hali is finally getting her hip surgery. Just because she needs to pause for recuperation doesn’t mean the warring factions are dissipating. Shifters and Merrow continue to plague the beach and Hali’s recovery time. How much will they have to do to keep the ancient race from wreaking havoc?
Wonderful story. Literally had to read it all in one day because I couldn’t stop!
WOW!! this one has broken the mold for this series. Still got a dead body on the beach but the circumstances that surround the reason for that body are what is focused on in this book and it is QUITE INTERESTING!! and a TANGLED WEB of deceit and back stabbing--metaphorical back stabbing. IT IS JUST REALLY GOOD. I'd tell you more but it would ruin the BEST parts for you and there are MANY BEST parts!!
So, this is book seven; it truly do love this series and these characters, it seems the series just gets better and better, the story and the writing. I'm hoping there's many more stories to come in this series; it is so good and I too love Lily's philosophy on the endings. Another fantastic book and please keep them coming.
I love Gray and Halie. And it was a nice change not to have a totally perfect heroine. I’m also really liking the larger role that Rusty has in this book. Eager to see what’s next in store for them all. Definitely better if you start at the beginning of the series.
I’m so glad Hailey finally got her surgery. What a relief. The merrow, on the other hand, turned out to be quite adept at political alliances. It was tough to know who all had an agreement to help them, so everyone had to be very astute in planning ways to uncover and dismantle those alliances. Another good addition to the series
Hali finally has her surgery but a restful recuperation is too much to ask for with a magical storm, a death on the beach, and the dark merrow acting up. So much packed into one story with one threat wrapped up but another left for the next book. As always, another great story by LHH. Can’t wait for the next one!
I love this cozy mystery. I enjoy reading about the main characters love for each other. The team they have assembled to fight bad guys and their family relationships. This cozy mystery had several leads some good most in the wrong direction. But it was a fun page turning read. Loved the final outcome.
Hali is stubborn, independent and strong. And she needs all of that to get through the recovery period after she’s finally had the operation to fix the terrible injuries to her leg. Of course, little things like beings who feel she should not exist, do get in the way. Sweet, fun , and exciting as I always expect from this series and this author.
Well it looks like the hip surgery came out great. And now the beach is safe again. Hopefully Gray and his parents will finally makeup. And she can't wait to get back to the tiki bar. All of the main characters are so much fun. I really enjoy these little Cozy mysterys.
Another funny, easy read from Lilly Harper heart. The characters are well developed and follow along from adventure to adventure. I like the banter between the characters
I really do love that Lily/Amanda continually comes up with storyline’s that make me want to come back time and time again. I’m so disappointed that they finish so quickly but I love to reread each series before I read the new one.
Hali is one of my favorite characters by Lily Harper Hart and I love them all. She finally had her hip surgery but still manages to take on the Merrow while going through her recovery.
I have really enjoyed reading this series. I hope more info about Wayne (flamingo) is shown soon. The merrow seemed interested in him even after the one fight. Missed Carry in this one but nice to have Martha.
Such a good story in the series. I have totally enjoy reading this authors' different series and getting to know the characters. Her storytelling is.just so good!!
I absolutely love reading wanting that Lily Harper Hart has written and this book was no exception! It was filled with witches and magic, destruction and murder, love and laughter.
I’ve read EVERY book series this sassy lady has written. Working in healthcare watching TV reminds me of patients who have limited options. Reading is my escape. This series is by far my favorite. Cute quirky and filled with witchy intrigue. Enjoy!
It's amazing how some people can't get past the fact that you can change if you want, not just because you only know one way. Strive for the change. He was a little miffed about what his mom did, but even more so that the truth popped out at the most inconvenient time.
Finally a solution to Hali's hip problem. I was getting tired of slogging through the snappiness of Gray losing his manhood. He carried Hali half the time. I'm still intent on finishing the series. I just was hoping for more witchiness.
Needless to say each book in this series keeps getting better and better. More new characters and more new people to fight them. Hope you all enjoy this series as I am. On to the next one.
This was another fun read with the gang in St Pete’s. I enjoyed having the whole family in the story but missed having the regulars be in the story more than just a mention. I look forward to finding out what happens with the pack in the next episode.
Continuing the lives of Hali and Grayson with her recupeation after hip surgery. Then a murder, then parents interfearing.....the list is long. Great story highly recommend.
I love the way the series keeps evolving, how characters relationships are getting stronger and the storylines are always interesting. This book brought a lot of answers, but also more questions. Can't wait to see those answered in up coming books.
