An interesting insight into the working of Irelandia, but can't help but feel we are presented with a view through rose tinted glasses. An interesting story all the same
Tremendous story about how an Irish investment company took the Ryanair low-fares carrier model around the world and the hair-raising times they had doing it. I just wished it was better written and edited. The fact that Irelandia - the book was about the company - published the book cast a shadow over its independence for me.
The book is about the Ryan family and its investment company. The Ryan name is global aviation loyalty. Tony Ryan, the patriarch, started Ryanair to bring low-cost flying to the masses. Whole Ryanair is highly successful now, the early days were a struggle and on many occasions came close to shutting down.
Once it was firmly on two feet, Tony Ryan thought about bringing low-cost idea around the world and put his son, Declan, in charge.
Declan Ryan led a band of executives, mostly young, on the charge into new markets in Asia and South America, starting new airlines to take on existing carriers which they felt weren't doing enough to make it easier for people to fly.
