Als ik je morgen weer zie

Rate this book

I hope readers enjoy my third book! Especially if they're young. Especially if they're queer. And especially if they know what it's like to fight loneliness—a battle my main character Clark knows all too well. Although I love my first two books (THE SKY BLUES and BLAINE FOR THE WIN) with all my heart, Clark and Beau's love story is my favorite yet.

If you love time loop stories, I think you'll love IF I SEE YOU AGAIN TOMORROW. If you think the time loop trope is overdone, fair—but I dare you to give this one a try.

What I liked the most about this story:
- how the time loop plotline was done
- Clark as the main character
- his personal growth and emotional journey throughout the story
- the side characters and their relationships with Clark

As for the romance,

I listened to the audiobook and I have mixed feelings about it. The narrator's performance was pretty good for the most part, but the voices he gave some (female) characters were not so pleasant to listen to.

This was nicely written but I feel it could have been even better if the story was actually centred around friendship and not a romantic relationship.

I'd have loved me a ✨power of queer friendship✨ story with the addition of the time loop premise of this book, plus all the incredible side characters ALOT MORE than a dumb YA “I love you” relationship with a practical stranger who avoided the MC for 90% of the book but is in love with him???

The math isn’t mathing.

HOW am I meant to ship two characters that hang out for one scene (which was admittedly cute, but not enough to get to the “I like you” stage with one meeting) WHO THEN DON’T HANG OUT FOR THE ENTIRE BOOK????

This flip flopped between a 3-4 ⭐️ but ultimately, would have slapped so hard if this wasn’t about love. The love story was WEAK. Weak af my dudes.
Or even make the love between Clark (our main MC) AND HOT CINEMA SILLY ACTOR BOY????? They had so much more chemistry than the stupid MC 🤣

“I sit up in bed, recalling each one of Ms. Hazel’s tips to defeat loneliness:

Try to make a new friend.
Help someone who could use it.
Be vulnerable so others can be too.
Do the thing that scares you.”

I already have Robbie Couch's previous books in my tbr, but once again, I decided to check out his latest release, If I See You Again Tomorow so I could get a feel of his writing, which happily enough, I liked! It was very clear, very direct, with much love and attention to detail, and very on the point telling a story, without wavering in any way.

And yes, while it was a Groundhog Day-esque plot, there were plenty of repetitive scenes that took place, but it didn't become too redundant to the point that I would become fed up from it. Throw in the fact that there's actual a timer to how long our protagonist, Clark, can continue on this endless loop of this one day in his life - then the odds are certainly stacked against him as he races to figure out what exactly could be the tipping point to get him past the clock striking that fateful time of repeat. 🥺🥺

“She referred to the day you’re Trapped as the time gap grace period. The universe is allowing you an additional day to fix your wrong—and make it right.”

My first impactful moment would have to be when Clark admitted aloud to his therapist that he was lonely - we've all been, there - I still feel that way - so for him to reflect on his life and his family - that he was lonely even before he became the only one re-living the same day over and over, was an interesting touch. I enjoyed all the characters choices for who Clark ultimately had to do his good deed for the day in order for him to make sense of this trajectory. 🩷🩷

“I’ve been stuck on my beaten path for so long, reluctant to discover more sadness existing in my today, that I’d forgotten I could come across lots of good things stuck on repeat as well.”

Each of them had a unique touch to their personality, offered a different perspective into Clark's own rationale frame of mind and how he was reacting to his own family situations. And trust me - they were there! Trying not to mention spoilers, but just seeing Clark grow as a person himself, was also cathartic if not rewarding - because when he figured out the reason why he was even here in the first place is when he really shined. ✨✨

“Even with the time loop messing with my memory, I know I would remember Beau; his ease, his energy, his voice—warm, deep, and a touch raspy, like a bonfire crackling on its last log. Nothing about him is subtle, and even less is forgettable.

“Well, I think you’re wrong.” His eyes dart between me and the road. His lips, pink and full, curl up into a grin. “Maybe we met in another life.”

Sadly, I really didn't feel much for Beau - the potential love interest - maybe if we had been offered some perspective from his point of view, or got to see him more than just Clark spending the majority of his remaining time chasing after him in the chance of meeting him again - I would have believed their chemistry. Even if I buy into the whole 'soulmates' vibe and one day can change everything - it fell a little flat for my taste, despite Beau stating, “I’m the luckiest because I got to have you, even if it was just sixteen hours.”

Honestly, it may be my personal opinion, but if there wasn't even romance involved and it was the story of how Clark overcame his own personal demons and gained a level of maturity to his way of thinking - I think it would have been just as a rewarding, if not interesting read. Not to say that I didn't have a good time with it - but, I just think I could have felt more for them and the keen desperate yearning Clark had to make it right for him to find a way back to him - if there was more to them than just what we were given. 🤷

But, if Clark was able to feel something within that short span of time, with the surprise - the anomaly in his redundant space-time continuum - then it matters very little what I think. I definitely walk away with this book with the hopeful prospect of checking out Robbie Couch's other works as soon as I can. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

“Because, if there’s one thing I’ve learned while being Trapped, it’s that time may be able to warp many things, but it can never destroy the life I’ve shared with the people I love—regardless if I shared all seventeen years, or just a single afternoon of running errands.

The time loop may have tried, but it couldn’t conquer me. Not really. In the end, I found my way back to them.”

At this point, Robbie is an auto-buy author for me.

Okay, we all know and understand how much I love Robbie Couch's books. In fact, The Sky Blues is one of my favorite YA books of all time, and Blaine for the Win was one of my fave reads of 2022. And let me tell you, this one did NOT disappoint!

I truly loved this from start to end. One thing you need to know about me is that I'm not a time loop girlie. I find them to be nearly impossible to enjoy, and the story almost always gets way too redundant for me. YET HERE WE ARE WITH A TIME LOOP STORY I TOTALLY AND UTTERLY ENJOYED. My #1 pet peeve with time loops is that they're almost never explained - it's like they're something that just happens in a book, and suddenly they stop for no discernible reason. The time loop is never explored by the characters, and we never find out the how or the why of the loop and where/when/why it started. But this book actually tackles that part of the plot, and does so in a way that was incredibly interesting. In fact, it added a fun mystery element to the book, which I wasn't expecting.

But let me tell you where Robbie's books really and truly shine: THE SIDE CHARACTERS. Specifically, Otto. He stole my heart. In such a short book, we meet a huge cast of characters and learn their backstories and struggles, and it's almost magical how you start feeling like you really ACTUALLY know these characters, too. I don't know how he does it, but I cared so much. I was invested in the acting classes, the side romances, his best friend's struggle in a new town, the story behind the Everything Blue bakery.... I don't know how it happened, but I fell in love with the cast.

The only reason I docked a star is because I wasn't a huge fan of Beau. Unfortunately, I just couldn't understand Clark's draw to him romantically. I can see how Clark would gravitate towards Beau as a means to spice up a time loop, but I never understood what he saw in him beyond that. Beau was brash and impulsive, and Clark was sweet and introspective. And Beau single-handedly made the time loop harder for Clark, which I won't go into because of spoilers, but I was frustrated towards the end of the story. They never really meshed in my head, I guess.

But that doesn't even matter, because that one minor issue is outshined by amazing side characters, discussions of loneliness as a teenager, and an actual interest in the how/why of the time loop. Robbie's books give me the same feeling Lynn Painter's do, but with an LGBTQ+ twist. They remind me what it feels like to be young and struggling and feeling like it's the end of the world, but also that indescribable feeling of being right at the start of your life and just figuring it all out as you go along. It's magical when authors can condense those complex feelings into 300-ish page YA books.

OF COURSE I loved this. Robbie can do no wrong in my book. This is a 4.5 for me.

I'm just going to add the spoiler tag on this review because it is so hard to talk about without spoilers and I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't read it because it is good and I would recommend it!

I loved the time loop plot. Seeing Clark's growth as he relives the same day over and over. And I liked him talking about the stages of being stuck in a time loop, the honeymoon phase where you go crazy, then the depression once the honeymoon phase is over. I even loved the reason he was stuck in the time loop, with the missing his fate to meet someone and having to go back and change that. five stars for the time loop portion, loved it!

Now the romance- I didn't buy at all. Clark & Beau spent one single day together. Was it day 309 or day 310 I forget, but that was it. They had a day. They ran into each other a few times after that, but only one actual day together. Then they declare they are in love and are each others soul mates. Talk about insta love- it had been a day!! lol one star for the romance. Honestly my expectations for the romance were pretty low anyway, just due to the characters being 17- so the fact that they thought they were in love after a single day didn't bother me as much as it may have in a book with older characters, so I was willing to overlook that, especially because I loved the time loop part of the book so much.

What really disappointed me was how the book ended. Not a single chapter of them finally living the next day? No epilogue? There was so much I would have loved to have seen. One more chapter plus an epilogue would have made this book an easy five stars! I'll go with four, I overall did love this and read it so fast I couldn't put it down but dang if only an editor had helped make a couple small tweaks!

Overall, fairly cute YA story and interesting premise with themes of loneliness, new friendship, and opening yourself up - but found the relationship part of the story lacking.
Got major Adam Silvera déjà vu vibes while reading.

Well written and story arch easily flows, so I still think this might appeal to the YA readers in your life.

Clark has spent 309 days in a time loop - the same conversations, same classes, same pizza for dinner, same Monday, September 19th, just like Groundhog Day...  He doesn't know why or how, despite researching all the crackpot theories, he can't get out.

Until day 310 when Beau drops into his last period and shakes up the day - he joins him on a series of "errands" and meets new side-characters that are interwoven into the big picture of how he became stuck in the first place.

The relationship, if you want to call it that since they only spent a few hours actually together, didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel their connection and thus wasn’t emotionally invested in them together. 😔

[3.9] imagine being doomed to repeat the same day, forever on loop in true groundhog day fashion. that’s Clark’s reality as each iteration plays out the same old way. that is… until it doesn’t.

as Clark works to uncover the mechanisms behind his predicament, he also embarks on a personal journey of empathy, vulnerability, and human connection. his character arc shone in brilliant rays, and as the bulk of the story, i was certainly not dissatisfied.

warning to those thinking of picking this up solely in hopes of an epic YA romance: i’d recommend giving it a skip if that’s the only thing catching your eye. the romance tag is a bit disingenuous in that very little pagetime is actually dedicated to the romantic interest (felt like <5%), his inclusion, minuscule development, and later ilys falling short. however, if you’re looking for a compelling tale exploring loneliness, growth, and interpersonal relationships, i think you’ll enjoy this.

I have to say it: this is by far one of my favourite queer YA novels that I have read. As Robbie Couch mentions (I saw he mentioned this somewhere but I forget!) it's his first book in the speculative genre, and I can only anticipate what else he brings to the table! I loved, loved, loved it!

Before we get into it - yes this is a time loop story. Yes, we've seen many time loop stories in media and I think by now, we know there's usually a general formula of how to break the loop. Recent film additions Happy Death Day (2017) and Palm Springs (2020) spun the time-loop story in new ways I hadn't thought of, and then we also got The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021), which brought us a romcom contemporary with two teens in a time-loop. All this to say, I'm a time-loop story fan and I was still very excited when received this advanced readers copy in my hands (Thank you Adam Silvera!) and it's goes to show that after finishing, I'm still excited for this book and for everyone to read it!

There's a great level of care in the way this was written - the writing made it easy to read but hard to put down. I really enjoyed getting into the mind of the MC and his logic, as well as meeting the secondary and tertiary characters. Each character plays an important part (no matter how big or small). And there were many lovely endearing moments, ones where I could not stop turning pages, and ones where I just thought this was a ton of fun.

Mental health rep is fantastic in this and if anything, this book should remind you of the importance of perspective and is a testament to the "stop every once in a while to smell the roses" statement.

Thanks Robbie (and Adam) for the opportunity to read this before it's release. This will definitely not be the last time I mention this book!

If i see you again tomorrow

Robbie's spin of a Groundhog Day story is a personal journey of overcoming your loneliness, making the best of your time and being honest to yourself and your loved ones.

Clark's Monday repeats over and over again, with no end in sight. Until he admits to his therapist that he is lonely, and triggers a change in the time loop.

Enter Beau: chaotic, spontaneous, charming. Clark has a reason to look forward for his next today now, and while looking for how to exit the time loop, he makes some unexpected friends and comes to terms with uncomfortable truths.

The story, not unlike The Sky Blues is more of a personal journey than of a romance (and that's my only complain from Robbie, not nearly enough couple time - this book could use an extended epilogue chapter for sure!) and the destination becomes clear only when a lot of seemingly unrelated pieces come together in the final part of the book.

If I See You Again Tomorrow will make you laugh, frown, shake your head, rattle your teeth (some characters really don't want to let their secret out!) and not for a single moment let you think of putting the book down!

Robbie Couch is such a versatile author. If you gave me his three books The Sky Blues, Blaine for the Win and If I See You Again Tomorrow to read, without telling they're from him, I wouldn't guess they're all from one and the same author. All they have in common is that they're all brilliant and I love all of them.

This book is an urban fantasy based on the popular Groundhog Day phenomenon. Clark is trapped in a time loop. It doesn't mix well with his anxiety and loneliness already but it's also somehow one of the worst days in his life.

I love the world-building, the mysteries, the clever plot-twists and the love story. It's one of the books you want to race through because you can't wait to know how it all plays out. On the other hand, it's also such an amazing story, you also want to read on and on forever without ever coming to an end.

Brilliant book and straight to the favorites shelf. Can't wait for Robbie's next books.

3,5/5✨

łezka się kręci przy zakończeniu.💧💜

__________pełna recenzja:
Choć główne punkty pierwotnego poniedziałku zostały, to każdy kolejny miał nowe, a niekiedy nawet i jeszcze bardziej zaskakujące zwroty.

Polecam!

A well written page turner with a time loop premise. The intrigue and mystery of why the loop was happening and how to make it stop helped me breeze through. It was hard to rate but in the end the book failed to supply what I was (and am always) really after. ROMANCE!!! So I had to round my stars down to 3.

Too much of it had our MC's apart. They actually spend very little time together and Clark spends a lot of time searching for an elusive Beau which is frustrating and agitating. The time that they do spend together is excellent. It would have been so much more satisfying if there had been more relationship building.

Other than an excellent first kiss there is zero steam which is fine, particularly for a YA book.

Side characters were great and the friendship building side of the plot was enjoyable.

There 100% should have been one more chapter , something that my book buddy Drew and I couldn't agree more on.

I am a true sucker for time loop novels and the premise for this YA M/M romance had me completely hooked!

When Clark finds himself repeating the same day over snd over again he starts to worry he’ll never escape the trap he’s in.

Enter, Beau, who’s also stuck in the same time loop and needs help from Clark to escape. This was perfect for fans of delicious treats, messy divorces and fated soulmates.

Great on audio narrated by Kurt Kanazawa (a new to me narrator) and recommended for fans of See you yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon.

I can count on one hand the times I've read a novel in less than 24 hours. "If I See You Again Tomorrow" is maybe the most surprising addition to that short list. Yes, I basically couldn't put it down, but it isn't really a page turner, in the traditional sense. It's compelling, has intriguing plot elements to decipher, etc., but it isn't a cliffhanger-at-every-chapter/leaves-you-breatheless-to-know-what's-next kind of book. I couldn't put it down because I just felt so good being part of the story.

I love me a time loop narrative or pretty much anything that uses non-linear concepts of time as narrative devices to explore human relationships. And while each new offering to the genre can benefit from what came before (you basically HAVE to mention Groundhog Day or it will sound like you think you invented this idea), it also needs to do its own thing. This novel succeeds big time. It uses previously charted territory to tell its own story at its own scale, and as a reader, I felt in good hands through every "iteration" of the way. It doesn't set out to impress with reinventing the loop story, but it also doesn't lack its own creative take(s) on the "what now"s that characters have to face in a loop scenario.

With a big concept/story device like time looping, the simpler the story, the better. And the simplicity here works extremely well, while still giving the reader plenty to hypothesize, wrongly predict, revise, then discover along the way with our main character. And while the (ultimately) high stakes may push some of the narrative/relational dynamics a little farther than felt necessary (in light of how down-to-earth the character depiction is throughout), I don't begrudge these characters or this story anything. It's a book about loneliness that manages to be as direct and as hopeful as it wants to be about the kinds of things that can really make a difference in the face of feeling isolated, hurt, or invisible, and does so with gentleness and warmth; it promises possibility without pretending any of it is easy.

I am officially a Robbie Couch fan.

Groundhog Day meets They Both Die at the End in this heartfelt time loop novel exploring loneliness, mental health and love in its many forms. Incredibly readable and entirely engrossing, I flew through this gorgeous book in a matter of sitting and regret absolutely nothing (other than not having a blue brownie whilst reading).

Well, here it is – another knockout by Robbie Couch, further cementing his status as one of my absolute favorite authors and one of the most talented YA authors in the game right now. I will read anything by him at this point.

The Sky Blues was something special, and is one of my favorite books. It explored difficult topics with grace and levity. It was such an eloquent YA novel that brought me to tears. I could not believe it was a debut.

Blaine for the Win was the perfect blend of tones – it was serious when it needed to be, but it was also light-hearted fun with plenty of emotion.

If I See You Again Tomorrow is yet another fantastic body of work.

I loved the premise. Robbie Couch can add “sci-fi / speculative fiction” to the “skills and abilities” section of his resume, because he has more than proved that he can do that with this novel. The time loop plot was so well-done. It was complex, but not overly so. The mystery of how to overcome the loop was intriguing as well. It was claustrophobic, adding to the urgency of overcoming it as the story unfolded.

Clark was a fantastic protagonist – multi-faceted and layered, loveable, and big-hearted. You were rooting for him from page 1.

More so than the romance aspect of the book, I think the most important part of the story – and what I was most invested in – was watching Clark develop into an even more thoughtful, empathetic person who wanted to help others as he ran the daily errands.

My one thing – I didn’t care too much for Beau, and I was indifferent towards the romance. I was also a bit skeptical over the fact that in totality, maybe 20 pages of the entire book had actual real-time interactions / appearances of him, but at the end of the book they professed their love for each other.

Everything else? Perfection. The story. The supporting characters. The writing. The themes. The uniqueness.

I’ve come to expect brilliance from Robbie Couch – and he continues to deliver exactly that. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

LOVED the time loop.
Hated the romance. Since they don't actually spend any time together.

“I’ve been stuck on my beaten path for so long, reluctant to discover more sadness existing in my today, that I'd forgotten I could come across lots of good things stuck on repeat as well.”

1 Sentence Summary: Clark has been reliving September 19th for over 300 days, it’s monotonous and lonely and he doesn’t know if he’ll ever make it tomorrow, but on Day 310 something different happens; a new boy named Beau shows up in class and when he convinces Clark to accompany him on a series of errands across the city, Clark meets new people, learns how to get out of his comfort zone, and becomes more determined than ever to escape the time loop he’s stuck in.

My Thoughts: Robbie Couch has done it again! This is by far the best time-loop novel I have ever read. The reason why Clark is stuck in a time loop actually made sense, and the way the time loop worked had a satisfying explanation and was almost like a mystery as Clark tried to figure out how to stop it.

The character development was phenomenal and I could really relate to Clark and his struggle with loneliness. And I really loved how the romance wasn’t the main focus and it wasn’t just ‘if I fall in love then all of my problems will magically go away.’ Yes, Beau (the love interest) definitely helped, but ultimately it was Clark’s own efforts reaching out to others and going out of his comfort zone and being vulnerable that made the difference.

“I could really use some friends in my tomorrow.
And I'm realizing maybe they could use me in theirs, too.”

Also, the story was amazing. It grabbed my attention from the first page and I never wanted it to end. I legitimately laughed out loud at some parts, and teared up at other parts. And I loved the ending; it was open-ended yet still a satisfying conclusion. This was very well written and is one of my favorites that I’ve read this year and I’m officially obsessed with Robbie Couch.

“I’m not lonely when I'm with you”

Recommend to: People who enjoy YA time loop novels (even if you think the time-loop trope is overdone I promise you will not be disappointed).

(Warnings: swearing; underage drinking; parental separation)

it is 2:47 am and i am a snotty mess. i love this and will have something more coherent written soon, but wow!!

Robbie Couch is one of my auto-buy authors, and If I See You Again Tomorrow fully cemented my choice.

As a child of divorce and no stranger to loneliness, Clark's journey felt so personal to me. I understood some of his emotions almost viscerally, and I shed several tears for my confused younger self while reading.

Like with his previous books, Couch focuses on the importance of mental health and I love him so much for it. He does it without feeling preachy or feeling like a gimmick; it's something genuine Clark is working on and I love the way Couch handles important topics.

Another knock-out story from Robbie Couch.
