I honestly didn’t want to put this down. Loki is full of humour, full of evil plans and his perspective of the mortal world brings me so much joy - like you have no idea. I love seeing glimpses of the mythology in this. I chuckled away loads at this! And I love Louie’s illustrations too - so much to look at! Can’t wait for the next one now!

Someone has stolen Thor's favourite hammer, Mjolnir. Everyone is blaming Loki, but for once it isn't him. Loki is determined to prove everyone wrong and show them that he is a GoodGod.

The main question is who did it, if not Loki?🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Could it be the frost giants? It probably wasn't because the only people who went upstairs during the time it was stolen was Loki, Georgina, or the new girl, Sarah.

I thought this was a GREAT sequel! I loved Loki’s growth and the new experiences the author wrote for him. Navigating friendships is the main focus in this volume, as well as a fair bit about trusting one another. As with the first book, the story is told with humor and Ben Willbond does a fantastic job narrating the audiobook!

Another cute and funny book in the Loki series. I enjoyed the humor and drawings a lot. Even had some real mythology tossed in to make Ya readers interested in learning more about the mythology. A fun read for sure!

Loki has been banished from Asgard. Odin has given Loki the form of an 11-year-old human, and sent Thor, Heimdall, and Hyrrokkin (also in the form of humans) to keep an eye on him. Loki must learn to be good and keep a record of his good or bad deeds in a magical journal. In this second book of the series, Loki is trying to make some new friends, but he goes about it in all the wrong ways.

This is such a funny series! I liked all the cartoony comic illustrations on each page. Sometimes the text of the story changes to a comic strip for one or two pages, then back to the regular text again. The narrative is told from Loki's perspective as he is writing about his quest in the magic diary that gives him points for being good. I thought this was a wonderfully effective story-telling technique!

The characters of Thor, Heimdall, and Hyrrokkin were really hilarious! They are all trying to adjust to life as a human family, and they try to do human traditions like birthday parties to fit in with other humans. They want to give Loki a chance to be good, but he keeps using his selfish trickery and that makes it hard to trust him.

All the kids Loki meets at school are pretty typical. Some are bullies, some are nerds; they are just kids. Loki keeps trying to make new friends, but he just bribes or bullies them instead of really connecting with anyone. One of the side characters, Valerie, is Loki's only friend, and we meet her two moms. She calls one Ma and the other one Mom.

I liked that, although Loki is selfish and mean, he really is trying to do good in this book. He is such a crazy complex character, and this book did a good job reflecting that. I liked that although Loki does bad things and bullies people, this book turns that around into a positive moral message about kindness and selflessness.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a free and honest review. All the opinions stated here are my own true thoughts, and are not influenced by anyone.

I loved the way that this story was based on Norse myths, and referenced them in such a way that the reader would want to learn more. It is a very silly story - and made me laugh out loud. I think it would be especially popular with boys of about 10 or 11 (there are a lot of mentions of farting) although girls would enjoy it for the messages about friendship. I think the youth speak might date it in a few years time so I hope they can update the language. I would like to read the first book in the series.

3,5 sterren

Greetings mortals, Loki is back! Louie Stowell serves up another Thor-some read that is riotous fun from start to finish.

Still living on Earth (Midgard) in the guise of puny mortal schoolboy Liam, Loki has been given another opportunity by the almighty Odin to prove that he is worthy of return to Asgard. But reinventing yourself and getting others to see you differently is no easy task.

When Thor’s hammer is stolen, the master of mischief is suspected of the crime. But this time is Loki really to blame? All he needs to do is find the hammer, identify the real thief and get everyone to admit that they were wrong about him. Simple, right?

Prepare to roar with laughter at the brilliant follow up to Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good. Loki, Thor and the rest of the godly family are back enjoying, and all too often being exasperated at, life on Earth, with Loki still trying to make amends to Odin and improve his ‘Loki Virtue Score’. And Loki certainly has his work cut out with a missing hammer, an unhappy goddess out for revenge, Frost Giants planning to destroy the way back to Asgard and to kill all of humanity, including Loki’s friend Valerie, and then there’s the teachers at school who are not overly impressed with Loki’s attitude and ability to learn.

Told over thirty insane and wild days and packed with references and links to Norse mythology, Loki’s second diary-style narrative is another absolute treat. Zany, ridiculous fun and extremely readable, it is bursting with clever and witty writing, doodles galore and a God that is very much out of place, out of his comfort zone and who is having to deal with more problems than your average mortal.

Chaos, confusion, sarcasm and sharp-eyed observations once again reign triumphant as Loki hilariously alternates between his two personas - the immortal trickster God and the mere mortal schoolboy Liam. Loki’s hilarious understanding and views on the mortal world have me in absolute stitches as he acutely observes and points out the random things we do on a day-to-day basis (spitting on birthday cakes and then offering it to others being a personal favourite, ha ha ha). And his all too accurate observations don’t end there; school, chores, parents’ evening, friendships, adverts, babysitters, reality television, birthday parties and sexism all get a good old Loki bashing.

It is once again a gloriously entertaining look at the life of a Norse God trying to make do in our world and all of the challenges that that entails; yes, even an immortal God is not immune to the mortal troubles of childhood and fitting in on Earth. For all his godly bravado, Loki is rather insecure, would quite like to fit in, struggles to cope with Thor’s popularity and feels deeply betrayed when a supposed friend ditches him for a new girl - outrageous!

Whilst Loki’s virtue score may have improved by the end of the book - and he is definitely on the the right path - Odin doesn’t appear to be completely satisfied which is fantastic news as that means another rollickingly good read coming soon in the form of Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Ruling the World.

With huge thanks to Walker for the copy I received in exchange for an honest review.

I don't give star ratings to the books I read my daughter because I am torn between rating how she felt, rating how good a book for children I thought it was and rating how I personally found this book.

But this one is a cracker, let's be honest, so I've given it the full 5 stars on reflection, because it's a 5 in all three of those areas.

This sequel includes the appearance of Lady Sif talking about the cutting of her hair so was also a catalyst to me and my daughter going back and watching S1 of the Loki TV series where that comes up and also watching the first film as it features Sif prominently.

Another outstanding Loki book from author and illustrator, Louie Stowell.

Loki is still trapped on Midgard (or Earth as we know it) in the body of a young boy, who just happens to be called Liam, like me. He's accompanied by his brother Thor, pretending to be his brother Thomas, and Heimdall and Hyrrokkin, pretending to be his parents. His best friend Valerie now knows his secret, and he still has his diary to update, the diary that keeps him right and awards him his virtue points.

One of my favourite things about this book, and this series really, is the metatextuality of it all. This is a story that has a lot of fun playing with the idea of being a story and how it is being told. The diary is the main driver in this, and the way it comments on Loki's plans and corrects him when he goes wrong, and the way it snidely explains human concepts, is just brilliant. It's so funny, sharp and clever and really suits the irreverent style of Loki.

The main storyline here is Thor's hammer going missing, which isn't actually anything to do with Loki. Firstly he's stuck taking the blame. Then he has to help retrieve it from the people who actually have it. There's a lot of witty commentary on Loki's past mistakes and some very good reasons why no one actually believes his innocence. I absolutely loved all of the references to actual Norse myths, mostly glossed over with a "That's a long story, I'll tell you later." I really hope this inspires lots of readers to pick up a retelling of the original myths (Neil Gaiman's is very good) and discover for themselves just how ridiculous, epic and fun a lot of the old stories actually are! Then Loki and friends have to get the hammer back, which leads to a brilliant series of plans, both good and bad, and a lot of exciting action.

There's more going on here though, and some of the side plottage is just fantastic. There are two new girls at school. First Loki tries to be nice to one of them, Sarah, and we see the repercussions of his lack of social graces. Then Valerie has a new friend, Gabrielle. They're both "horse-girls", which works really well, but it also leads Loki to learning about some new emotions, specifically jealousy. Watching his emotions waging a war within him is both funny and kinda sad, and it's a really good treatment of this difficult emotional state without ever losing the comic elements of this hilariously funny book.

There's also a lot of comic relief to be found in Heimdall's attempts at parenting, with frequent reference to a variety of self-help books, but behind this is a serious message about family.

The art somehow perfectly matches the rather anarchic, chaotic style of the story.

Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Taking the Blame is chaotic, silly, clever and fun!

Everybody's favorite Norse god is back. Forced to live on Earth by his father, Loki spends his days as an eleven year old boy with too much time on his hands. When Thor's hammer is stolen, of course Loki is the one who is blamed. He is the trouble-maker after all, but he didn't do it. Not this time at least. Now, Loki must do what he can and take on the trials ahead of him to prove his innocence. But it isn't about being innocent. No, he just likes to be the person who is right and wants to rub it in Thor's nose. To do so, his path leads him to new students who are threatening to take his place.

LOKI: A BAD GOD'S GUIDE TO TAKING THE BLAME is packed humor, cute doodles, and Norse Mythology. It's honestly the first book I've read in this series but I don't feel like I missed anything. The format is a mix between a middle grade novel and a graphic novel. The doodle-like cartoons bring even more laughs to the story. This book is the perfect look into Loki's mind and how we can all imagine him to think. His comments just make the story and I couldn't get enough. There are hints of mythology splashed throughout the plot to keep things interesting. I love watching as he interacts with humans while he thinks they're beneath him. Even though I haven't read the first one, I can see Loki grow the more he's around humans and how it's helping him learn right from wrong, even though he's so good at being bad.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children aged 9 and up who enjoy fantasy, magic, humor, and Norse Mythology. Since it reads like a diary, it's an easy read will bring a laugh to children who dare to open it up. Like it's crazy how much humor is packed into this one book and I love every second of it.

Louie Stowell jedynie wykorzystała postać Lokiego i całą otoczkę do stworzenia czegoś zupełnie nowego i przede wszystkim nawiązującego do obecnych realiów dzieciaków.

Oczywiście robi to w sposób przekomiczny, a zarazem boski!

Serdecznie 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗠!

This series looks set to run and run, much like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Tom Gates. And it deserves to, it’s funny and well-written with fabulous doodle drawings to break up the text. I enjoyed this sequel, and more than that, it had my nine-year-old daughter guffawing and reading out to me the best bits. She particularly likes the truth-telling diary that pulls Loki up on his lies and misdemeanours and the points-based system that sees Loki lose points whenever he is bad, although this part was declared to be not as funny as the previous book as there were no minus-a-zillion negative scores. However in this sequel god-come-eleven-year-old-schoolboy Loki is as hapless as ever. Unlike in the previous book in this book he is actually trying to be good, but that is difficult when his best friend Valerie has made a new friend and he feels deserted, and he finds himself being blamed for stealing Thor’s hammer, something he actually didn’t do (for once). Can Loki solve the mystery of the hammer’s disappearance without alienating his one friend forever? As an adult I love the mythology interspersed with the humour and it’s cleverly enough done to be intriguing rather than instructional. Recommended for middle-grade readers, especially those who find full-text novels overwhelming, and for everyone who wants to laugh.

I LOVE these books. Audio and regular. The narrator for the audiobooks is SO. GOOD. I am a 40 year old childless woman and I think they are so entertaining and hilarious. I’m also immature so there’s that.

I love how they make fun of the absurd/silly things humans do but that have been socialized and that people see as normal now.

A couple of quotes I loved but really you have to hear the narrator say it or read it in context:

“‘Visit Sunnyville. It has good food and attractive people, unlike your pathetic excuse for a town.’
‘Your life is tragic. But if you buy these clothes, you will be popular and successful’… At first, I thought they might be some mortal code of moral conduct. But then I remembered, they were what mortals called ‘advertisements.’ The diary had explained them to me just the other day:
‘Advertisement: a way of persuading mortals to spend money or do things that they don’t want to do. Adverts are not supposed to contain outright lies, but they bend the truth until it cries out: “please stop- you’re hurting me.”’”

“Yes, they’re married. Long story. Actually, it’s not. They got married. The end.”

If you remember The Wimpy Kid, or like reading beano magazine, you will love Loki. I loved reading the comic design illustrations throughout this funny book. Meet the cast Loki, Thor, Georgina, Valeri, the dog Fido, Heimdall, Hyrrokkin, Sarah! Odin, and Sportsboy one.

I think the most important messages that is being displayed in this story.

1) Be kind to all your friends

2) Be nice to the new person in your school

3) Never take what doesn’t belong to you.

Loki is now is a god, sort of. It’s complicated. These days, Loki is living on Midgard ( aka Earth to you) in the form of a punny mortal boy called Liam.

Loki, performed a mighty test feat being nice to the new kid.

Once upon a time he would have kicked Thor in the shins for talking about god business. When Thor goes to polish his hammer it wasn’t there. It’s been stolen. Thor,Heimdall, Hyrrokkin and Fido all glared at Loki, but Loki tells Thor, he didn’t take Thor’s stupid hammer. The question is who stole Thor’s hammer?

Perhaps understandably I didn't take to this book quite as well as the first, but the sheer novelty and surprise last time round, at a semi-illustrated diary-styled kids adventure being so joyful in this day and age, was always going to be impossible to repeat. It's still a lively and fun adventure, with Loki being framed for crimes he didn't commit, and the pages still turn with wanton pace, but yeah, something felt a little lacking – for me, at least. Loki might be kvetching about the human lot a bit less, even if he still likes wacky crisp flavours and finds some of our habits (picking up dog poo, etc) a bit bizarre and beneath him. It's not a case of this series going downhill fast – the interaction with the diary and his conscience, and his relationship with Thor, could not be said to be becoming old hat already; it's just I can't quite hold it in such rarefied esteem as before. Still, for now, there is definitely reason enough to turn to the conceited character and have him confounded by both a fellow trickster and by a certain green-eyed monster. Four stars.

I enjoyed this a lot. As with the first book, it was funny, and clever and heart warming in places as Loki learns to care about his friends and found 'fake' family and not just about himself. I just didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first.
I felt that with the inclusion of Sif the story came very close to doing the "thing" where a supporting female character has to outdo the main male lead...but not really.
In this case, Sif was sometimes more tricky than Loki and was declared by a confused Thor to being quite like Loki. She even has to rescue Thor and Loki after a Loki plan fails.
However, it was Loki to come up with the final plan to save the day. And Sif does suffer some humiliation. This balances out the dynamic between them, making Sif more Loki's equal than his trickster superior and opens up the possibility of friendship.
And I liked that Sif was allowed to be strong, just as a Norse goddess should be. As Loki himself says, not just wife of Thor.
The plot felt sturdier and more fleshed out than the first.

Odin has given Loki another chance to prove himself worthy of Asgard. But earning everyone's trust is tricky, and when Thor's hammer goes missing, everyone blames Loki! Outrageous!

To clear his name he must:

1. Find Thor's beloved hammer
2. Uncover the real thief
3. Force everyone to admit they were wrong

An easy feat for someone as handsome and clever as Loki…

This book feels like a really fun way to introduce kids to Norse mythology in the form of a naughty gods diary. Jam packed with hilarious tales of the mischievous Loki, trying his "best" to do what is right, this book would be great entertainment for middle-schoolers. His perspective on the human world is fantastically relevant and I am sure kids will connect with the complexity of growing up (let along being a God sent to earth to complicate things).

Get this one on the school bookshelves stat.
