Love when picture books address the weird things kids do - like befriending a hot dog - without making it seem weird. Enola's grandma is fantastic and cool and a great BFF.
A good friendship, forgiveness, grandma, and quirky story.
Ok.....i struggled with the rating on this book just because having a hot dog for a friend seems weird. However, kids are weird and sometimes they make friends out of the strangest things, including hot dogs.
The writing itself was sweet and simple, making it a quick bedtime story. Illustrations also simple but cute. I LOVE that the grandma has tattoos. Never ever have I read a children's book where the grandparent had tattoos and I think its fantastic. I have read many books where they talk about kids with different colored skin, hair, eyes, different sizes and different abilities but nowhere have I seen a book where the adult in charge was a hip granny with tattoos. That might be my most favorite thing about this book!
Having a grandson who likes bedtime stories, I appreciated that it was a quick story and easy to read and easy for him to understand. He also liked that Grandma Mimi had tattoos like his grandma does.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
This cute book seems to be about a girl befriending a hot dog but really (spoiler!) it’s about discovering her best friend is her Grandmother. And what a cool Grandmother! Extra ice cream, golfing, building a fort to sleep in, bingo, swimming, and not batting an eye about her granddaughter pushing a hot dog around in a stroller. Lastly, I love how even though Mimi doesn’t talk much, her support of her granddaughter and her particular ways are clear on every page. A very cute book about fleeting friends and those that last forever. Recommended for ages 3+.
This was a random grab from the library for my 7 month old. She's too young to fully appreciate it yet, but I sure do. It's just a silly little story about a girl who becomes obsessed with a hot dog and carries it around with her as her friend. As a former weird kid turned weird adult, I identified with her character. I also loved the representation for heavily tattooed grandmas.
This book is one of my favorites. My kindergartener loves it. The story is about a young girl who becomes best friends with a hot dog, and then has to deal with her emotions. It is very cute, and I love the story line just as much as my daughter.
This was one of the books my grandson received from Dolly’s Imagination Library and to say it was a hit is an understatement my grandson loves the silliness of it but also said she loves her Mamaw like I love you .
This story has quickly become a favorite in my household. The idea of a hotdog becoming a friend is so child-like. I also enjoyed the grandma Mimi having tattoos, I thought that was a fun touch.
