Coming home to Montana wasn’t on country superstar, Cal Bridgestone’s agenda. But when his older brother is badly injured in an accident, he has no choice. With a family that’s scattered, a young niece to look after and an estranged father to deal with, he shouldn’t be thinking about his old flame, Millie Sue Jenkins. Seeing her stirs up all kinds of stuff. Their history is tricky, and starting up where they left off is probably not a good idea.
So why can’t he stay away?
Millie Sue gave her heart to Cal when she was seventeen, and he still has it. She’d love to hate him for leaving Big Bend and breaking her spirit, but all she feels is want and need. Starting up with him isn’t a good idea—he will hurt her. Because Cal Bridgestone outgrew Big Bend a long time ago and belongs in a world of celebrity, music, and superstardom. He will leave again.
And this time, she’s got to make sure her heart doesn’t go with him…
USA Today bestselling author and 2015 RITA® winner JULIANA STONE fell in love with books in the fifth grade when her teacher introduced her to Tom Sawyer. A tomboy at heart, she splits her time between baseball, books, and music. When she’s not singing with her band, she’s thrilled to be writing young adult as well as adult contemporary romance—books that have garnered starred reviews from Publishers Weekly & Booklist—from somewhere in the wilds of Canada.
He glanced up just then, and their eyes locked. It was the kind of look that was heavy with memory and things unsaid.
This book took me by surprise. I was expecting an ordinary small town romance with lots of banter, but it was so much more, so emotional and beautiful, with some heart-stopping moments. It touched me from the first page to the very last.
It's as much a story of family issues and self-discovery as it is a love story, when country superstar Cal comes home to help his family out after years away und getting back the love of his life in the process. I think Cal finding himself, figuring out what is important, what he wants out of life and what family and home mean, is very well done. He's a great main character, as is Millie Sue. She is just the right amount of hesitant to get involved with him again because she doesn't believes he'll stay this time either. Of course, there’s no way to resist the love of your life forever, especially not when the great side characters nudge you in the right direction.
The third-person POV (Millie's and Cal's) was a little weird for me because it felt limited most of the time (the narrating MC is a spectator and can only tell what he sees and what's on his own mind), but there were also moments when an omniscient narrator cut in. This kind of POV is certainly not my favorite.
However, I'll be back in Montana with the Bridgestones and their friends.
There is just something about a small town with family drama that makes for the best setting for romance! In this series starter, the country star boy returns when the family he has been avoiding for years, needs him. The girl he left behind is still in town, and their parting left scars on them both. Chemistry between those two, undeniable. Hurt feelings, still there and just as wide as ever. Denying what is there, or trying to control it, is something neither wants to do, or is able to do. Rich with emotions, scorching with heat, full of wounded hearts, this story finally gives our couple the HEA they denied themselves all those years ago <3
It definitely paid off to wait for Juliana Stone's new release, because Cals and Millie Sue's book was exactly what I was hoping for. A well-written, emotional story about two people who are meant for each other and who finally find each other despite many obstacles.
I can't wait to read more about the Bridgestones and their friends! So happy that the next book will be about Taz 😁💕 and then Ivy & Mike Paul and then Vivian, please 😉😍
I don't like music stars!!! Their arrogance, their tendency for self distraction, their huge ego... just don't click with me.
When I realized (my bad) that I had one of them in my hands (because the beginning is so typical of his kind) and I ought to talk about him I was depressed.
And then I read some more (thank God) and some more and then some and I was stuck!
Cal, thankfully, was ready to explore his feelings and reasons for living such a meaningless life away from family, friends and everyone special in his life. Whose dream was he chasing?
Millie Sue, with a divine voice, being a bright star, even without lights and cameras keeping a secret who crushed her spirit and dreams, turned out to be such a strong personality! Still such a junkie for Cal Bridgestone. But leaving because it means everything? What that even means?
Are they going to find any kind of happiness?
Alsooooo there are so many other characters in there like his big brother, a little adorable nephew, a broody little brother, sisters and even Taz who made my mind gone crazy with excitement for new journeys! Can't wait!.

Wow! Loved Cal and Millie Sue's story! If you love 2nd chance tropes, this book is a must-read. Their journey wasn't an easy one but was so worth the read. I'm a huge fan of Juliana and this book didn't disappoint, it was totally worth the wait!!!
First time author for me and sadly this book was a whole lot of meh.
The MMC came across as an ahole from the little we get to know in this book. He's left his hometown and the FMC - who is claims he's always been in love with - never looked back, never checked in on his family or the FMC. But now that he's back, he wants it all, without so much as a sorry I abandoned you. The book hints that he had his reasons for leaving but never really gets into it. There is not one single flashback of either the MCs together or time spent with his siblings, some shenanigans they got up to together, time with his parents, as a family, flashbacks to how difficult it was after their mother passed. Nothing! And that was my whole issue with this book. It is so soulless, heartless that even if you force yourself to care about this characters, you just can't.
The FMC is the most spineless doormat character I've ever read. She's left behind, has gone through some trauma, survived it all on her own, built a life for herself and in walks the MMC and she's a puddle on the floor for him. Have. Some. Self-respect!!! Oh but he's so handsome and charming that she just can't help herself! 🤮 🤮 🤮 In the beginning of the book, when she told him off, I though here's a strong FMC who'll stand her ground and demand respect that's her due. Nope! She's happy being a spineless doormat. And the MMC's big gesture that makes her take him back? He gets on stage with his band, in the bar she works at, and tells her with the most unromantic words ever written that he loves her. And she's jumping into his arms and going home with him. The end. Don't even get me started on the full names mentioned in every single sentence - Millie Sue, Cal Bridgestone, Mike Paul - why??? It's so irritating! Reading "and then Cal Bridgestone kissed Millie Sue" makes me feel like I should be reading this in an exaggerated voice for a 5 year old. There was also a wolf that's the family's pet and is mentioned more than the dead mother. Don't know why. This book is barely longer than a novella and it was a pain to get through.
Such an amazing and emotional second chance romance. The characters were well written and had so much depth to them. Country superstar, Cal, is faced with going back home when his brother is laid up from an accident. There are so many family issues to deal with here. Not only that, he is now going to face the woman he left behind, Millie Sue. She is not happy at all he is back in town with the way he left. Their story is full of so much emotion and heartbreak. Loved every page of it. I felt the beginning with the backstory and all the characters being introduced would have been a little easier as a prequel to this series.

This is book one in The Bridgestones of Montana series and it is Cal and Millie’s story and omg what a great start to a new series and definitely a must read. Cal and Millie have history because at one time they had been so in love and wanted a future together only for Cal to leave so that he could pursue his career as a country singer. Cal is now a famous country singer which was his dream and also a totally player but when he finds out that his brother Bent had just been involved in a serious accident Cal realised that he needed to go back to the family ranch which he wasn’t looking forward too as it held some bad memories for him but his brother needs him so they had to cancel the dates of some of his tours that was planned until he knew what he was dealing with. Millie co-owned The Sundowner Bar with her cousin Zach but when Bent had his accident she knew that Cal was returning to their hometown but what she wasn’t expecting is for him to be in the bar but Millie tried hard to keep her distance from him because she never got over the fact that he left her and his family and also she never stopped loving him not that she would let him know that as they were different people living different lives now and she would never make the same mistake again as she had gone through so much. The more time that Cal and Millie spent together the harder it was too deny that they never stopped loving each other but what will happen when secrets are revealed and Cal’s brother Bent recovers from his injuries, Will Cal and Millie realise in time that they are meant for each other and get the happiness and future that they both deserved after everything that had happened and also what they had gone through or will history once again repeat itself leaving them both devastated and heartbroken yet again. Wow I absolutely loved this book and it certainly takes you on a rollercoaster journey of emotions and the chemistry between Cal and Millie was off the charts hot that is sizzled off the pages even after all the years that they were apart and everything that they had gone through and i couldn’t put this book down as it was so addictive and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing and addictive series.
I've been reading lately a lot of Juliana Stone. I read a very a couple of years ago but haven't really kept up with her until lately. In the last few months, I've been reading her stories and loving them. I started to slow down on reading her because I noticed she hadn't been writing anymore. It's been years since she's had anything out. When this came up for review, I knew I had to read it.
I was so glad that I had. Right away I was drawn into the story and wanted to know more about everyone. I have to admit as I was reading the story my first thought was, who else is going to get a story because I need to know more about these people.
Both Cal and Millie Sue are great characters, but I understand why they didn't work. They both truly wanted different things at that time in their lives when they went their separate ways. There is more to the story, but you need to learn that for yourselves.
The author did a good job of showing us who these characters are flaws and all. There is no one to really place blame on the fact that as kids they didn't work. Sometimes you're just too young to deal with emptions that are chasing you. As they work through things, you'll notice that even as adults we have trouble facing those emotions.
As a whole this is a wonderful story that has many ups and downs. They might not have had an easy ride to happiness, but you can feel their love from the first phone call. I can't wait for more from this series.
Wow!!! Heartbreaking Beautiful Second Chance at Love
Wow!! This story just had me all in my feelings. I can’t lie, I wasn’t really feeling Cal Bridgestone. My initial impression was that he was a total tool. My impression changed as I got to know him better. Cal was flawed but he was a product of his left experiences. He was just living and I realized that it was not my place to judge how he did it.
Cal is a country music sensation who comes home when his brother is injured. He hasn’t been home in years and he has a lot to answer for. He especially has to answer to Millie Sue, the girl he left behind. He and Millie Sue were soulmates. Gosh, I felt their love for each other jump off the pages of the book. Millie tried to stay away from Cal but her attempts were futile. She and Cal’s reconciliation was inevitable. I can’t lie, I judged Millie for falling for Cal’s charms. How could she take him back so easily? How could she just accept scraps from him? Hell, she loved that man and he loved her. I had to give them a pass because sometimes love is hard, love hurts but it also heals. Cal and Millie have grown while they were apart. They had to learn how to compromise. They had to forgive each other for their past hurts. They had to let go of the trauma that they each carried and just live life to the fullest. There so much more I can say but I don’t want to spoil it. Everyone deserves to feel all that this book offers.
I really really really loved this book. I have always been a Juliana Stone fan and I’m so glad she’s back. She has come back swinging and I’m here for it. Kudos!! This was a 5 star read for me.
What a great start to a new series, so many stories to tell. A family brought back together. Old love rekindled, old hurts healed. Cal has returned home after years away. He left to follow his dream. But what he left behind he has never forgotten. A love with Millie he never thought he would lose. He thought she would have went with him and shared their dream of music. But they had different realities. While Cal couldn't wait to leave and follow his dream Millie chose to stay behind. Now years later he returned to help because of his brothers accident. Millie knows he is back but for how long. How long before he leaves again and continues his dream. He hasn't been home for so long what could keep him here. She has never forgotten the love they shared but it wasn't enough all those years ago to make him stay how could it be any different now. Aside from Millie, family issues also are what pushed Cal to leave. Now that he is back how long can he ignore them? In order to heal and move on he has to face them. His relationship with his father is strained. Can he forgive his father and move on? The story was about healing and love. The bonds they once had are still there but time has buried them deep. Coming home and growing up it's time to settle the past and the hurt. Time to find the love Cal and Millie once shared as well as the love Cal had with his family. Time for forgiveness and opening your heart to love.
I’ve greatly missed having new Juliana Stone stories to get immersed in. I was so excited when she announced her much anticipated next book and thankful there wasn’t a long wait until its release.
Cover Me Up started a bit slow due to Stone having to build the foundation of The Bridgestones of Montana series. There’s considerable backstory and a diverse cast of characters to introduce. It was difficult at first to keep everyone straight, but once the story gained momentum, it all fell in place. As with her other series, I was soon engrossed in the story and totally invested in the lives of the Bridgestones and the secondary characters in Big Bend, Montana.
A strong, straight forward heroine who suffers no fools is my favorite, so it was no surprise I loved Millie Sue immediately. Now Cal was a different matter entirely. I liked him for the most part, except for his arrogance of wanting everything his way. Thankfully, secondary characters quickly called him on his bs. The story was wrapped up, but I don’t feel he fully made amends to Millie or his family.
Juliana Stone is back with what looks to be another great series. I enjoyed book one and am anxious to read the rest of the series. She revealed just enough about the other Bridgestone siblings to make me crave more. Book two should be a page-turner. Scarlett is a spitfire and Taz a complete charmer who stole my heart with his protectiveness towards Millie.
I read a sample and didn't stop until I turned the last page. The romance between Cal and Millie Sue as well as the Bridgestone family dynamics–which I didn't expect to play a role in the story–kept me hooked.
My introduction to Cal wasn't at his best moment, but quickly learned there was a lot more to him than just that snapshot. While he is very successful as a country artist there is a lot he had to overcome from his childhood. Those tough times pushed him forward and away from his family and Millie Sue at the same time. Something happens that brings him back to Montana and the history of his family and Millie Sue.
Millie Sue also carries a lot of pain, one big part of which involves Cal, the man she loves and always will. She has accepted that they are not meant to be. When Cal comes back she expects him to leave again as soon as possible. Due to circumstances, he is staying for a while and it is hard to keep her heart close to the only one who has ever had it.
The progression of their romance and the reintegration of Cal back into his family felt organic–not rushed. I routed for them to work through their past and hopefully find a way to be together in the end. Millie Sue is feisty and Cal has a big presence and confidence. Their connection is authentic based on a real friendship growing up together that became more when they were older.
There was one secret that revealed itself at the end that I didn't feel needed to be added to the storyline. It still didn't change my enjoyment of the overall story.
I’m a sucker for Second Chance Romance storylines, and Juliana Stone did a beautiful job with Cal and Millie Sue’s story. My feelings were all over the place when reading their story and I loved not only getting to know Cal and Millie, but the other Bridgestone family members.
I understood why Cal left his small town due to family drama, and he didn’t really want to come back, but he had to due to his older brother being badly injured. Cal knew he would have to step up and put his music career on hold temporarily, especially when it came to taking care of his niece, amongst other things. Cal is what I consider the typical famous star getting into things and having fun, but he’s not over the top like I expected. (I’ve read Rockstar Romances where they tend to be over the top and drive me crazy with their player ways). It was obvious once Cal returned home, he had feelings for his old flame, Millie Sue, and I loved how he was determined to win her over again.
The book was paced perfectly, and I loved that I got both POVs because I felt both characters’ feelings for one another while reading the book. This book was hard to put down, especially once you find out the reason why these two went their separate ways. Whenever a book can make me feel so much for its characters and their story, it immediately becomes a favorite, especially when I find myself smiling and also crying for different reasons. Yes, I cried, especially at the end.
Cover Me Up was an amazing start to Juliana’s new series, and I give it five stars. I’m so glad Juliana Stone is back, and I look forward to reading the rest of this series, plus whatever other book she decides to write in the future.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you love reading Small Town Romance with Second Chance storylines, this is a must-read to add to your TBR.

I think this book takes its title from the Jason Isbell song, which is one of my favorites . . . I felt like it was a lot to live up to, but Stone did an amazing job here.
The first thing she got right was the family dynamics. The Bridgestones are a struggling family. The siblings obviously love each other, but their contact is sporadic and the male MC here hasn't been home for several years, leaving his siblings unsure of where they stand with him. When his older brother is seriously injured, he returns home to help his family but it also allows him to connect with the woman that he left behind years before.
There's a lot of drama in this book, but Stone knew when to let things stand. There was no feeling of artificially ramping up the conflict. In fact, there was a scene towards the end of the book that I was dreading because I knew a lot of authors would have used it to have the male MC freak out and prompt a 3rd act breakup (which I don't mind, but I do mind when they feel contrived). Nope, the author completely subverted my expectations in an enjoyable way. There's a lot of additional characters (there's a LOT of Bridgestones), but it didn't feel crowded or distacting. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
At first, I found Cover Me Up a bit slow and the writing style didn’t immediately pull me in. The pacing felt a little off, and I struggled to connect with the characters at the start. However, as the story progressed, something shifted. The characters deepened, and the emotional stakes increased, drawing me in more and more.
What started out as somewhat bland became intriguing and, eventually, completely captivating. The complex emotions, the raw tension between the characters, and the growth they experienced hooked me. Juliana Stone has a way of sneaking up on you with her storytelling—what feels like a slow burn becomes an emotional rollercoaster by the time you reach the end.
The ending was overwhelming in the best way possible. I wasn’t prepared for how deeply it would affect me, and I found myself in tears. It’s one of those stories that leaves a lasting impression after you’ve turned the final page. Despite my initial hesitation, Cover Me Up delivered a powerful, heartfelt story that stayed with me long after.
In harmony - Calvin rushes home to hold down the fort when his brother is laid low in an accident. He never intended to set foot back in Big Bend, MT. Never intended to see her again. Millie Sue Jenkins. The one he left behind all those years ago.
Millie Sue is less than thrilled that Cal is back in town. He left her without a backward glance. No letters, no calls. Nothing. How can her heart take knowing he's so close but will leave the first chance he gets?
This is an absolutely wonderful second chance romance. The MCs have a lot of baggage to work through to reach their perfect HEA. Reading their reunion story was a pleasure and a joy. A bit steamy, a bit amusing, a lot good. The characters are a great bunch, down to little Nora and Mr. Higgins. I can't wait to read more about this family and the denizens of this small town.

Cal is on tour with his band when he finds out his oldest brother has suffered a accident and he needs to return to Big Bend to help his family on the ranch. He never expected to go back after the heartbreak of leaving Millie Sue the one woman he always loved. Millie Sue is not happy that Cal is back but she plans to stay far away but then things have a way to pulling them together. Loved this wonderful story that pulls at your heart as Cal and Millie Sue reconnect and the secret she has kept for years finally comes out.

Millie and Cal made a great couple in their teens, but time and circumstances were not on their side, leading to many years of living lost with broken hearts. Now they have the opportunity for a second chance at love when Cal returns to his small hometown.
It was a very emotional and immersing read that made me root for the couple from the first chapters. A total page-turner and the great beginning of a new series. I want to see more of that town and the Bridgestone family!.

When Cal's brother is injured, he comes home to help his family. He also comes face to face with the woman whom he hurt when he left town. Millie is not too thrilled at seeing Cal again, but her heart is not on the same page. Sparks are still there between them, but will she let her guard down and allow Cal back into her heart. This story had my emotions all over the place on this one as I cheered this couple on to getting their second chance for happiness.

This is the first in a new series, and this is Cal and Millie Sue’s story. Cal left his hometown to pursue his dream music career, breaking Millie Sue’s heart in the process. Now Cal is back home for a brief time, will he and Millie Sue stand a chance of being together? This is a well written story which is emotionally charged, with family, friendships, drama, undeniable chemistry, humor, witty banter, challenges, second chances, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and steamy small town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
A wonderful introduction to a small town family and the trials they all face. The story follows Cal thru his internationally famous band to his return to small town Montana. The interactions with these characters is realistic and the every day struggles are realistic. This is a series that I personally want to follow. Ms. Stone has a skill to weaving heart filled life experiences that make a book a true page turner.
My heart was put thru the wringer with this one. I love 2nd chances as they always make my heart happy but the emotions in Millie Sue and Cal’s 2nd chance were off the charts! The heartbreak, the distrust and the grief were just so great that I wasn’t sure how in the world Millie Sue could ever forgive Cal but love found its way and brought Cal to his knees with all that he had missed and walked away from. Now he just has to find a way to prove it to Millie Sue. Loved it!!!
When Country Singing Superstar Cal comes home when his brother has an accident and needs his help with his niece it brings up all sorts of history for him. Especially between him and Bar Owner - Millie. With the backstory that they have together not all of them are good. Bringing up old unresolved feelings, hurt as well as family issues mixed into all of that. Cover Me Up is a bittersweet and Heart-warming story about second chances with characters I really liked.
Another excellent read for this amazing new family series. A must-read as it is full of amazing characters and lots of feelings, laughter, tears, but always lots of love. Cal and Millie Sue do not disappoint. Love the storyline of second chances. Together, they sizzle off the page. Can't wait for the next installment of Bridgestones of Montana.
I loved this book and devoured it in a day. I really felt how much Cal and Millie (Mills) loved each other. But he broke her heart when he left. He’s in his hometown now to help out when his brother’s in the hospital. I really felt their emotions and if they are willing to get their second chance. I didn’t expect to cry so hard and I’m so glad they finally got their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book.
