Wolf shifter Aldric Kazan is no stranger to pain. Since the loss of his mate a century ago, he won't allow himself to fall for someone again—not even the feisty female who stirs things in him that he thought were gone long ago. But as a supernatural investigator, he's forced to team up with the same woman he vowed to stay away from.
She let him in once; she refuses to do it again.
Natalia Cordona refuses to back down from any challenge—even if it means joining forces with Aldric, the sexy and brooding man who won't get too close. Locating missing vampires before a volatile war breaks out seems nearly impossible as the duo struggle with their explosive and undeniable attraction. Now it's up to Natalia and Aldric to trust each other to stop an all-out war from breaking out that would destroy the harmony they've all worked so hard for.

Katie Reus® is the USA Today bestselling author of the Endgame trilogy, the MacArthur Family series and the Deadly Ops series. She fell in love with romance at a young age thanks to books she pilfered from her mom's stash. Years later she loves reading romance almost as much as she loves writing it. However, she didn't always know she wanted to be a writer. After changing majors many times, she finally graduated with a degree in psychology. Not long after that she discovered a new love. Writing. She now spends her days writing paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense.
4 - "I love it when you use that ‘fuck with me and die’ voice…" Stars!
Book six in Katie Reus’ Moon Shifter series see’s shifters Aldric Kazan and Natalia Cordona, finally become a couple.
This is the first book I have read in this series, and I had no struggle with the storyline or the characters, so it can absolutely be read as a standalone.
"No going back…"
Katie Reus, excels at romantic suspense, whether it be in the normal or paranormal world, and the investigation that has Aldric and Natalia coming back together after Aldric’s sudden disappearance from her life months previously, highlights to him pretty much as soon as they are in the same room together again, just how big of a mistake he made in leaving her.
She already owned him, even if she didn’t realize it.
The second chance aspect to their coming back together really added extra depth to the suspense playing out around them, because as they pursue the leads to try and apprehend the killer, they both start to realize that their attraction has not faded at all, and the instinct to claim the other as their mate just gets stronger the more time they spend with each other during the course of the investigation.
"You’ve got to let go of the past."
This is another series by this author that I have joined in its latter stages, the book was no problem to read because of it though, but you can tell with the inclusion of other couples and little mentions of how they came together, that there are plenty of stories to go back and read at some point. I think that’s one of the things that makes this author’s work so readable, is that although a lot of her releases are series based, most of the books can be read as standalones without causing any confusion.
Cannot wait to see what she has in store for her readers next.
ARC generously provided by the author, as always, is was a pleasure to provide the above honest review.
DARK PROTECTOR is book six in the Moon Shifter series and the first book in this series I’ve read. I’m a big fan of the author’s writing, so it came as no surprise to me that I immediately fell in love with this story. There were some references to earlier books, but I had no problem reading it as a stand alone. Both Aldric Kazan and Natalia Cordona are moon shifters and he hadn’t been treating her right in the past. I loved Natalia’s sass and how she made Aldric work for her forgiveness. And fight for her – which he did! I loved those two and also found the secondary cast intriguing and interesting. As always, the author supplied a generous amount of action and suspense in this second chance love story. Another great page turner that kept me up way past my bedtime!
*I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I love shifter stories! I think it has something to do with the men being pure Alpha that are growly and dominant and Katie Reuss is the queen of Alpha heroes. This is the 6th in a series and you get previous couples in this book, but I don't feel it's necessary to read in order to understand what's going on.
Aldric lost a mate years ago and was unprepared for Natalia. He feels he failed his first mate by not protecting her and doesn't want another mate. Their pull to each other is so strong, he runs. 5 months later they are now part of the investigation into some missing Vampires. Aldric immediately feels the pull to Natalia and this time he's not running.
The romance wasn't as heavy in this book as I would have liked but I did enjoy the suspense just as much. Aldric and Natalia fight the pull and must put it on hold while they investigate the missing vampires. It's not until they solve the case before they can get to the heart of their attraction. Aldric does feel guilt about his dead mate but it isn't something that is stopping him from finally claiming Natalia. Natalia is not willing to be second best. She demands all or nothing which I loved about her. She is no weak heroine and Aldric must step up to prove he deserves her.
There is hints of who the next book will be focused on and I can't wait! The minute Niko was introduced, I was intrigued. ARC provided by NetGalley.
Intriguing storyline. Interesting characters. I received the book from the author as a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this.
Dark Protector is the sixth book in the moon shifter series and focuses on Aldric and Natalia.
Aldric is the brother of Jayce, the Enforcer, whom he cut contact with years ago when he lost his mate. Now, centuries later, they start to rebuild their relationship whilst Aldric and Natalia get to know each other as friends🙃
This book is quite interesting as it allows us to follow the brothers on an investigation, whereby some very powerful vampires have gone missing and no one appears to know what’s happening. It appears the peace treaty between shifters and vampires in this particular region, might not get their peace after all….or will they?
I enjoyed reading this book and I really want to jump into the final novella, even though I was hoping we might get a story for Niko and Gloria and perhaps the younger pups, Vivian and Lucas, later down the track🤞
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
Wolf shifter Aldric Kazan is no stranger to pain.
Thoughts: As always, Reus has hit a home run with this one. I thoroughly enjoyed Dark Protector…there is just something about a male who has been fighting so hard against love but eventually realizes how much he has to lose. Something that has him fighting to keep her when for so long he has just been pushing her away. That alone keeps me glued to the pages, but throw in a writer like Reus that writes with such vividness and you have an instant book favorite.

REVIEW: DARK PROTECTOR is the sixth installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult MOON SHIFTER paranormal, romance series. This is wolf shifters Aldric Kazan and Natalia Cordona’s story line. DARK PROTECTOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Several of the characters from previous story lines play secondary and supporting roles including Aldric’s brother Jayce Kazan and his mate Kat.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Natalie and Aldric) DARK PROTECTOR focuses on the hunt for two missing vampires. With the potential for war between the Clifton Coven of vampires, and the Kinley Pack of wolf shifters, the Brethren and the Council have implemented a search and rescue for the missing vampires. When Natalie and Aldric are teamed together old feelings resurface when Aldric’s internal beast demands Natalie for his mate. What ensues is the re-building of a relationship between Natalie and Aldric- a relationship destroyed when Aldric ran from the woman who called to his heart: and the search for the person(s) responsible for the missing creatures of the night. The investigation turns dark and dangerous when Natalie and Kat find themselves facing down a familiar foe.
DARK PROTECTOR is a story of second chances: a tale about one man whose life was destroyed when his first mate was murdered leaving a grief stricken Aldric to suffer alone; and one woman whose heart is unable to bear another rejection by the man that she loves.
There is a slow build up of the story line premise as the characters search for the missing vampires. There is also an equally palpable sexual energy of attraction and need between Natalie and Aldric but Aldric knows he screwed-up royally the last time he ran. The $ex scenes are limited but erotic and intense.
DARK PROTECTOR is a story of suspense and mystery; adventure and investigation; examination and acceptance. The premise is imaginative and creative; the characters are passionate and engaging; the romance is fated and encouraging.

A sexy second chance romance amidst an intriguing suspenseful storyline…
This is the sixth book in the Moon Shifter series that can be read as a stand-alone.
Wolf shifter Aldric Kazan, a paranormal bounty hunter, is investigating a missing vampire whose disappearance could complicate treaty negotiations between a shifter pack and vampire coven, its derailing could lead to a war that would affect many. Aldric was devastated when he lost his mate and unborn child a century ago. Though they weren’t bonded mates he did love her and his failure to protect what was his is an emotional pain that he lives with and taints his future. Meeting Natalia, a shifter who makes him want to claim her, terrified him to such an extent that he ran away from her presence, now six months later she’s involved in the investigation with him and in close proximity. He doesn’t feel he deserves such a woman or any for his failure to protect.
The wolf shifter Natalia Cordona lost her family, then she lost the male shifter who helped her through the grief, they had a friendship, strong chemistry and what felt like unspoken feelings for much more but he disappeared without a word for months. Wanting to help the pack who took her in she was glad for the assignment into seeking the missing vampire until she realized that Aldric would be a part of it. She’ll work with him but he’s lost her trust, she’ll keep her emotional distance. Knowing his history she understands his issues but with the depth of feelings she has for him she can’t just be friends anymore, he’ll have to make peace with his past to be in her life. Can he do so? Does he even want to? Those are questions that need answering.
Natalia is a survivor of tragedy and she’s retained a good outlook on life, she’s quite sassy, Aldric has been a lone wolf for a very long time and is overprotective when it comes to her, he can’t stand when another male of any species shows interest in her, the unexpected level of jealousy threatens to break his control over his inner wolf. The more time they spend together the more Aldric realizes that Natalia is the mate he has to claim but will she let him after the pain that he’s caused her?
This was a sexy second chance romance amidst an intriguing suspenseful storyline with numerous points of view, the protagonists navigate their mounting complex feelings as they help to solve the mystery and bring the decidedly wicked perpetrator to justice, there are many participants involved in the search, it’s always good to see again the previous characters in this series.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.
Although I have not read the entire Moon Shifter series – and how in the world did I miss these? – I found Dark Protector to be complete in itself so I would agree that it can be read as a stand alone story. But now, I’m going to have to go back and start from the beginning on this series because it’s that good. And I’m fascinated by the premise and some of the characters from previous stories involvement in this one.
Aldric has been grieving for his murdered mate for years now. It’s not only the loss of the woman he’d loved, it’s also guilt that he was unable to protect someone so important to him. Now, he’s feeling the pull of another woman, few get the second chance for another mate but Natalia pulls him in ways he thought to never experience again. And, of course, being a typical male he leaves and won’t acknowledge what they could have together. Natalia is understandably hurt but she’s not some weak female. She’ll deal with Aldric when they are forced to work together on an investigation to locate missing vampires before a war breaks out that no one wants. During the investigation the attractions between them still burns and Aldric is ready to admit that he made a huge mistake in walking away. Natalia isn’t going to fall into his arms easily, he’s going to have to work to get back her trust. All the while working a very frustrating case.
I enjoyed Dark Protector and easily followed the story without knowing any of this series history. Both main characters are strong, stubborn and sexy as sin. Although the sensuous tension builds between them, the actual sexual scenes were few but very steamy and intense. What we have is a strong mystery as to where the missing vampires are now, and who is out to start a war. That aspect of the story was intriguing and kept my attention sharp on discovering clues along the way.
Dark Protector captured my attention enough to make me want to go to the beginning and discover more about these interesting folks. And since this is the sixth story in this series, that’s probably saying something about how much I enjoyed it. If Paranormal Romance with shifters and vampires is your genre of choice, then this story is a perfect match for you.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this novel. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this story.*
I love coming back to this world! All the male heroes are so alpha-possessive and protective (and sometimes yes, annoyingly overbearing! hehe) but oh, so charming and sweet *le sigh* And the females are strong, kick-a$$, not-going-to-take-your-crap women ready to love and be loved.
We met Aldric and Natalia, our couple in past books and their relationship was gearing up to be a great one, but then at the start of this book we found out Aldric just ghosted out on Natalia. She was hurt but being the strong female that she was she’d decided to stop pinning for him and move on with her life. That is until a mission to find out missing vampires threw them back together and Aldric was no longer able to deny the attraction, and possibly mating instinct, that Natalia awoke in him.
Ok, confession time (and possible spoilers). So I loved Natalia and Aldric. I very much liked that she refused to rush into the relationship after the way he behaved. She was tenacious, resilient, and strong-minded, so a few pretty words or closeness to Aldric wasn’t going to change her mind, no matter what her body or heart were telling her. Aldric sounded like a huge, cuddly bear. The kind that scares you upon first impression but the more you get to know him the more you fall in love with him. The relationship moved slowly but surely and the way they got open up to each other was perfect. I think it was one of my favorite couples.
Now, and perhaps of what I just said, I feel that the fact that another couple’s love life was continued in this book I was not able to enjoy Aldric and Natalia’s love story to the fullest. I think I would have been happier if the time we spent with that other couple we’d had spent with the main couple. As it is, I feel we just brushed the surface of what could have been a more dynamic and sexier relationship *wah wah*
But beggars cannot be choosers and because I liked the plot and frankly I would still have liked the action, mystery, and paranormal world that this series never fails to achieve, even if there wasn’t any romance included, I definitely recommend this book (and series) to any PNR lover.
*** I received this book from one of the authors at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.***
Aldric Kazan, a wolf shifter and bounty hunter of supernatural beings lost his mate a long time ago. Since then he hadn't allow himself to fall for someone again not even the beautiful, intriguing and sassy woman by the name of Natalia Cordona.
Natalia Cordona, a lupine shifter and member of the Armstrong-Cordona pack was seeking an adventure. She liked her jobs within the pack but she was looking for something more, she was going stir crazy on the ranch. Jayce (MATING INSTINCT) allowed her to tag along with him and Kat on an investigation.
There's been a feud going on between the Clifton coven and the Kinley pack. The leaders wanted to call a truce when they found out that the Kinley princess and one of the coven's highest-ranked warriors who happened to also be Elian Clifton's nephew were in love with each other.
Not everone was happy with the upcoming mating of the shifter and the vampire. With a string of Vampires kidnappings happening, Jayce, Kat, Niko (a vampire), Natalia and Aldric had to work together to ensure that the feud ended soon. So it was a race against time for them to find the missing vampires and the culprit.
No matter what Natalia might have said, she wanted to know the sexy, brooding Aldric much better. But the man wasn't having any of it even though he felt how strong the attraction between them was. She knew his past and understood where he was coming from but she couldn't be just his friend. Would he accept that?!
Hunting down the culprit behind the kidnappings turned out to be very dangerous and deadly. While working closely together, Aldric was able to work through his issues and fought for Natalia, the only woman who made him come alive again after centuries of being in the darkness.
DARK PROTECTOR is the sixth installment in Katie Reus' MOON SHIFTER series. It was a masterpiece, one that will capture your heart from the first line until you read those two words...The End!
I love this series, to have the previous characters mentioned or make an appearance was a delightful treat. Katie Reus will have you asking for more, she did an amazing job. Two thumbs up and 5++++

OMG, it is another awesome Moon Shifter book- its # 6 in the series. In this book, we have Aldric Kazan, who is a wolf shifter and bounty hunter of supernatural being, who lost his mate a long time ago and Natalia Cordona, a lupine shifter and member of the Armstrong-Cordona pack . We find out that Aldric lost a mate a long time ago and shut himself down when it came to women and finding another mate. As for Natalia, she is into adventure and action. She likes her job but feels alittle underappreciated because she needs more in her job , she feels like there is more she needs to be doing but it doesn’t really get to happen. Aldric and Natalia had been together once before before he suddenly disappeared on her months before. He was with her but he just up and left . Then he suddenly is back in her life and Aldric realizes he made a HUGE mistake in leaving her when he is back in her presence when being in the same room. Natalia is working an investigation which is what Aldric is now doing and there is huge upset with the feud between Clifton coven and the Kinley pack. That is a huge story in itself going on so they are trying to prevent war from breaking out. With a string of Vampires kidnappings going on , Jayce, Kat, Niko (a vampire), Natalia and Aldric all had to work together to ensure that the feud ended soon. Natalia knew her dark and sexy protector Aldric had issues that prevented him from seeing her and from giving her the time of day but would he ever? While working closely together, Aldric started to have his eyes opened to possibilities that he could have it all with his sensual and sexy woman. This was an emotional and hot story of 2nd chances after centuries of being in a place of hopelessness and pain. I fully enjoyed the action, adventure, emotion, passion and hope that the author told. I cannot wait for more in this series by Katie Reus.
My rating: 4.9 stars **** "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
Aldric, a centuries-old shifter, lost his mate hundreds of years ago when she was attacked. He felt guilty that he failed to protect her. So, when he met the young shifter Natalia and was drawn to her, he ran from his attraction and her. He didn't want to fail again.
Aldric and Natalia end up working together to investigate the case of a missing vampire. Natalia gives Aldric the cold shoulder for the way he left her for 5 months. Aldric, once he sees Natalia again, knows he has to gain her forgiveness and make her his. But first, their investigation takes a turn for the worse... *** I enjoyed Aldric and Natalia's story. Aldric was wonderfully possessive and protective of Natalia, as a good shifter should be. Natalia was strong. She was a help in the investigation and made Aldric work to get back in her good graces.
The mystery was interesting and suspenseful. The pace of the story was fast. As a bonus, we also got to peek into Jayce and Kat's current relationship. Aldric is Jayce's brother, and Jayce and Kat also worked on the investigation.
My only wish is that we'd seen more of the relationship between Aldric and Natalia. Their personal story felt like a novella within the book, overpowered by the mystery and even Jayce and Kat's relationship.
I hope that Gloria and Niko's story is next, and that it's a full-length book. One can hope...
Another fabulous entry in the Moon Shifter series! Dark Protector, Moon Shifter, book 6, gives us Aldric and Natalia's story. Ancient supernatural investigator Aldric Kazan has been a loner since he lost his mate centuries ago. But when he met Natalia his feelings started to change, the man and his wolf wanted to claim her. Suddenly flooded with guilt, Aldric left and didn't return. Now, he must work with Natalia on a case of major importance to prevent a war.
Natalia had fallen for Aldric and was ready to take the next steps when he left and didn't return, breaking her heart. Determined to put Aldric out of her mind, and her life, she's moving on. But when Jayce Kazan (supernatural enforcer from Mating Instinct) offers her an opportunity to work on a case outside of the pack, Natalia jumps on it, not knowing that she will be reunited with Aldric for this one.
Forced to put their feelings, and unspoken words, aside they work together to find the missing vampires, and a murderer. But before it's all over, they'll have to face the undeniable feelings they have for each other, and trust each other enough to be vulnerable in love.
Highly recommended story and series. While it can be read as a standalone, you'll enjoy it more by reading the series in order.

Can Natalia find her mate this time, she really thought that she had a thing with Aldric but then he left her. She has just found out that they will be working together to find a missing vampire. There are now two missing vampires and the covens are getting antsy, will they be able to find out who took them and why? There is someone out there sending a message and they want their revenge but can Aldric and co stop them for good. Will they get a chance to be together after this is all over or will he walk away again? Can Natalia give him another chance, she is scared as he has hurt her already and she knows that she can't go through that again. Another great book in the series. I am so glad that we go to read their story and we got to see the other characters as well. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netalley and the publishing house in return for an honest unbiased review.
Aldric found and lost his mate a long time ago. Afterward, he became a loner and focused only on his work. Until he meets Her. Natalia makes him feel alive again, but he doesn't believe that he deserves her in his life.
Natalia met Aldric while working on assignment. They became friends and she hoped it could be more until he left on another assignment without her and didn't return when it was over.
Vampires start to disappear and Aldric and Natalia are assigned to the investigation but on different teams. Seeing each other again stirs up all those feelings but can they manage those feelings and the job in order to prevent a war?
This book is a great addition to the series. There's danger, suspense, conflict, and love.
I volunteered to review an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This one was just ok for me. Not sure what made it that way, the romance or the drama with the missing vampires. The romance was standard fare, the drama all about vengeance. The odd thing is that with the long lives of vampires it means they can wait a long to get their revenge.

Locating missing vampires before a volatile war breaks out seems nearly impossible as the duo struggle with their explosive and undeniable attraction. Now it's up to Natalia and Aldric to trust each other to stop an all-out war from breaking out that would destroy the harmony they've all worked so hard for.
Review:
I have been waiting for Aldric to get his Happily Ever After!
One of my favorite supernatural romance series and this is a great addition to the series. I have felt for Aldric from the first time he came to the series and we found out about his painful past. Natalia is a perfect partner for him. Aldric is scared and rightly so after what happened to his first mate and because he is scared he pushes away Natalia....stupid male...lol Once he sees another male touching her it throws his want into overdrive and he quickly figures out he cannot live without her. Natalia is tough and gives him a run for his money and makes him work for it. Of course there is a case of missing vampires that gives great tension and action to the story.
Ms. Reus always creates exciting stories and characters that you can root and care for. This is book six in the series and can be read as a stand alone, but the series is so good I would recommend reading them all. I cannot wait for the next one which looks like it might be Niko and Gloria's story, but I don't know for sure.
Exciting supernatural romance!

"Dark Protector" by Katie Reus. Book 6 in the Moon Shifters series. *finale*
I really enjoyed this final book in the Moon Shifters series. Technically, this is the last full length book of the series but, as a bonus, there is a Christmas novella, "A Mate for Christmas", after this book. This book is the long awaited story of Aldric and Natalia. Such a great story.
Aldric has been denying his feeling for Natalia ever since he met her. She's the first female that has made him feel anything since the death of his first mate over 100 years ago. He obviously can't offer her anything. What if he can't protect Natalia? What if he fails her like he did his first mate? When Aldric realizes that Natalia is on the same mission he is, to track down a missing vampire that may start a war between a vampire clan and a wolf shifter pack, he can't believe a vampire, Niko, is hanging all over her!
Natalia has never understood why Aldric has stayed away from her. They work well on missions together and they even are attracted to one another but he keeps himself at a distance. When Aldric starts a fight with her undercover partner Niko while on a mission, she has to confront him. He left her 5 months ago and now he's acting possessive? No. Just no. Once this mission is over, they are finally going to have it out and figure out what's really going on between them.
Such a fun story. Loved the mystery part about who the kidnapper is, although is was a little bit obvious. A very hot beginning to this book with Jayce and Kat (from Book 3, "Mating Instinct"). Nice to see that couple still going strong. The chemistry between Natalia and Aldric simmers off the pages with great sexual tension. The overall story line flows really well with little glimpses into the mind of the kidnapper. The romance and the mystery are intertwined very nicely. The only problem I had was that another new romance was hinted at, at the end of this book between Niko and Grace! I hope they get their happily ever after in the next novella!
I liked this last full book of the series. I can't wait to read the last novella.
Wonderful story of painful pasts and being able to overcome fear.
DARK PROTECTOR is the 9th book in Katie Reus Moon Shifter series and she is still entertaining me with a wonderful story. This story centers around the relationship between Aldric Kazan, Jayce’s brother, and Natalia Cordona. Natalia is a spitfire of a character. She is strong and independent and is not willing to give an inch when she feels that she has been wronged by Aldric, but readers are also able to see her softer side when Aldric beings to show her things that were previously hidden.
Aldric knows what Natalia is to him, but his past has shaped the person he is today and he is fearful of his feelings. Losing his mate to a feral changed him and made him go lone wolf for a while. But Natalia is not a typical female shifter. She is strong and due to Aldric, she is hurt and not willing to trust him again. But Aldric has finally pulled his proverbial head out of his backside and is willing to do whatever he can to show her that he has changed.
Thrown into the story is the disappearance of two members of waring groups. Aldric doesn’t want Natalia helping with the investigation, but he is more than willing to work with her to spend time with her and because she is good at her job. When things escalate and death replaces abduction, the group investigating knows that there is more to the story than they can see. Digging deeper begins to reveal betrayal and deception, and a person bent on a path of vengeance that could destroy both groups looking for peace, as well as the investigators themselves if they are not careful.
I really liked this story. If I could give it a 4.5 stars I would. I highly recommend and will definitely be on the lookout for any new books in this series or by this author. Katie Reus is definitely an auto-buy author for me.
The Moon Shifter series is one of my favorites from Katie Reus. Being a fan of the Red Stone Security series, I've only recently started the Moon Shifters. I've enjoyed every one so far. Having said this, I think this particular book is suffering from a little series fatigue. The themes are familiar and, unlike the others, the story does not stand out.
Aldric is an outsider to the pack. He keeps himself on the fringes, not wanting to commit to any group or anyone after his wife is killed many years prior. He still feels guilty that he was unable to protect both his wife and unborn child. He loses his mind after their death even going so far as to attack his own brother, Jayce. But there is something about Natalie that calls to him and although he fights it, it is a siren's call. Complicating things, Jayce and Aldric are on the hunt for missing vampire. One particular vampire holds the key to a truce between the vampires and shifters and his kidnapping puts that peace in jeopardy. The mystery and suspense are straightforward and I wished for a little more complexity.
I'm not sure if I'm impacted because I have read so many of Katie Reus's books. If you are new to her work, you will definitely enjoy the fast pace of the narrative and the sexual attraction between the two characters. For me, it might be just a little to easy and tame.
Apart from a short novella this is the last book in this wonderful series and this time we get Aldric and Natalia's story.
Aldric lost his pregnant mate years ago and still feels responsible because he wasn't there to protect her and his baby. He went a bit crazy after their death, broke all contact with family and became a loner. When on a job he meets and saves Natalia, they become friends. Both feel the pull but Aldric doesn't want a mate anymore and runs, leaving Natalia devastated and with a lot of questions.
During an investigation into missing vampires 5 months later, Aldric and Natalia meet again. The pull towards each other is as strong as ever, and this time Aldric isn't running anymore. He wants a second chance, wants her as his bondmate but Natalia doesn't give in that easily. She's hurt and he has to work really hard to gain her trust again and prove to her that he's all in this time. Meanwhile they're trying to solve the case with the help of Natalia's packmates.
I've really loved this series and even though couples from previous books are returning, I feel you could read these books as standalones. Of course they are so good that I recommend you read them all. If shifters and paranormal is your thing then this is the series for you.
*I kindly received a copy of this book via Bookfunnel. This is my honest review.*
Aldric, Aldric, Aldric. What a self-torturing male you are! He thinks he's undeserving of a mate or even fleeting love after the loss of his mate and unborn child decades ago. So all the roiling emotions that Natalia causes are making him act less than gentlemanly towards her. In fast he's been a complete d&%k!
Natalia really thought Aldric may have been attracted to her but he did a runner. Now almost 6 months later she's going to have to work with the insufferable male if she wants to keep working with Jayce and tracking down rogue supernaturals. Jayce has wangled it for her to work with Aldric to hunt down some missing vampires and now they have to work together.
Aldric and Natalia are both trying to keep the other at arms length but that pesky intense chemistry they have is determined to make them see sense. They almost don't get off the ground at all when Vampires decide to run amok and interfere with a possible treaty with a local wolf pack. Romeo and Juliet has nothing on these two star-crossed lovers.
Natalia may be inexperienced but she demands everything from Aldric - no half measures for her.
Every time I get a new paranormal book of Katie Reus, I say: This one is the best of hers. Every. Time. It was no different with this one, even though Aldric and Natalia are not my favorite couple of the Moon Shifter series (that would be Aiden and Larissa if you need to know), BUT they are a close second. I really liked the character development both characters had throughout the last two books since they turned up. I loved how Aiden explained the relationship to his deceased mate to Natalia and I was so GLAD that it was like it was (don't want to spoiler here). The whole plot was great developed and as always Katie Reus' writing style made it easy for me to get sucked in the story. There were no mistakes or plotholes that disturbed me while reading. The only thing negative was the fact that I suspected the bad person the moment she turned up. It ws a little bit too easy, but okay. You can'T have everything. 4.5 stars for another great paranormal book from Katie Reus universe!
When two high level immortals go missing, will this affect the proposed truce between the shifters and vampires? Aldric Kazan, Jayce’s brother, is investigating the missing three-hundred-year-old vampire. When the intended mate of a female shifter is also missing, the investigation will involve members of the Armstrong-Cordona pack. Natalia Cordona has been training with Jayce and has been chosen for this mission. She has great instincts and is able to distinguish the scents of both shifters and vampires. Aldric hasn’t gotten over the violent death of his mate, but knows that he needs to deal with his grief and move on, hopefully with Natalia. He has amends to make after having left her alone for over five months, hurting her and the feelings that she had begun to have for him. As they work together, another vampire is viciously murdered. Will they find the murderer and the two that are missing, before other lives are lost? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
I'd previously read the earlier books in this series but returned after a break. It was easy to reacquaint with the Armstrong-Cordona pack, this time with Natalia and Aldric as our main couple. There were appearances by pre-existing characters and references to what happened in the past but it was still an easy, enjoyable read and for the most part a fresh storyline without the usual setup of a story arc running through an entire series which means it could be read as a standalone - but really you want to meet and know all the pack members and their mates. Natalia is a feisty shifter who cares deeply about her pack and friends and she has been hurt in the past by the actions of Aldric so whilst her head and feelings say one thing her heart and instincts say another. Aldric has demons from his past which means he does what he can to keep people away, he was the epitome of a lone wolf.
