She's caught between two men, two worlds, and a heap of trouble.
Lucy's wedding to Laurent is drawing near, and she can't seem to stop it. Even worse, as she gets to know the Lord, she realizes he isn't the monster she thought he would be.
Her immense power, gifted to her by The Elderwood after her time with Micah, is complicated and unique, just like her forbidden relationship with the human.
As guardian of the Elderwood, Micah should be keeping the land safe, but the portal has been cracked open. Shadow creatures are creeping out and threatening to destroy the land. If he continues to fail, he'll disrupt centuries of Denoran tradition and never have the life with Lucy he sacrificed everything to obtain.
Lucy must make a decision. She can break the chains of Denoran tradition and save her lover, or she can give into the call of her arranged marriage. She can't have both.
If you want a fun, action packed fantasy with a love triangle, badass women, interesting magic, and family secrets, LOOK NO FURTHER.
First of all: I am a very critical reader and reviewer. I take stories and reading very seriously (more seriously than I should probably) and this is a FIVE star read for me. The highest of praises. This story kept me engaged from the very beginning and kept me up until 1AM so I could finish it.
It is a perfect follow up to Book 1 (The Archer’s Amulet) and a must read.
Lucy is such a well developed, badass woman. Brax and her insults kept me laughing. Micah and his little marshmallow soul. LAURENT. 👀 listen. Lots of twists and turns. Non stop action. Quality writing!!!! Seriously, S. A. Heiden knows how to write an action scene. For someone who visualizes everything she reads, Heiden’s writing is a perfect match for me. Genuinely impressed and cannot wait for Book 3!

You could bet that I was jumping at the opportunity to ARC read the continuation of this series and it did not disappoint.
Following on from the first book in the series but with more twists and turns along with a bucket load of secrets and betrayal!
We were introduced to new characters as well as getting to know those we have already met, this all helped the story to bloom even further.
Lucy and Micah’s characters continue to develop throughout this book alongside the storyline. They go through ups and downs, their relationship being thoroughly tested. I loved the continued information we get following on from the mysteries in book one, and being able to learn more about the history driving the story and the magical system.
This book truly builds on the magic of book one, providing a perfect balance of storyline, world building and character development.
That ending though! I truly can’t wait to see where this goes next.
Review: This is the second book in the Lumen Series and it did not disappoint. Lucy’s strength and determination continued, though she did show her weak moments, it made me feel more connected to her overall. The more and more Micah learned about his heritage and his new power, I was yelling for him! The new characters that were introduced added so much to the story, I loved (and hated…) them all appropriately!
Favorite quote: “’Each picture, one small body part, one small memory. Hands. Arms. Feet. The parts I love about me, like my strength, and the parts that betray me, like my eyes.’ She looked at Micah, with glossy eyes that refused to cry. ‘And it reminded me; I am not one thing. I am not just a warrior. I am not just a daughter or a sister. I am the sum of all of my parts, each one more intricate than the next.’”
So the base story of this one is really good. Fae and magic and secrets and other worlds what’s not to like. I’m excited to see how the story rounds out and the ending of this one was a great cliffhanger. There were some slightly repetitive moments where I think one more editing pass through would have really polished off the book but this is a new and self published author so a bit of that is expected and didn’t take away from the story much.
So many twists and turns and revelations! Book 2 keeps you on your toes while also diving deeper into the world Heiden has built. I LOVED the introduction of Brax and her food-related insults made me laugh out loud each time. She has definitely become a favorite character for me. There is also a potential love triangle that is thrown in, but Micah will always have my vote!! And ohhh, how it ends. I need book 3 in my life right now!
In book one you are left with a serious cliffhanger. Lucy returns home and this is the story of what happens once returning back from her adventure to the Elder Wood! I feel like I need to share that I normally hate anything that remotely resembles a love triangle...but this book definitely passed all my expectations and still remained such a good story and I still love every single character.
Along with Lucy and Micah you get to learn more about Lucy's Family, her betrothed: Laurent (probably one of my favorite characters), and a couple others that really help this story grow in depth and intrigue.
Like book one I loved every single line of this story and love the journey S.A. Heiden took me on! If you want just a very nice adventure/fantasy with not a ton of romance, and a relatable female main character, this checks all the boxes.
