The second in a hilarious school-based comedy series for ages 7+
With black and white illustrations throughout, the Lenny Lemmon series is a modern day Just William, perfect for fans of Wimpy Kid and Pamela Butchart!
When an important visitor turns up at school one day, Lenny and his friends are surprised to find themselves sent to the back field to count the footballs and tidy up the bibs. The school dog, Crumbs, has been sent there too. He's quite a lively dog and prone to over-enthusiasm. Suddenly they realise it's all a ruse to keep them away from the guest! Furious, and not a little hurt, our heroes rush into school, demanding answers and an apology. The subsequent encounter (chase) with the important visitor nearly brings down the school. But, of course, Lenny and friends, with the help of the enthusiastic Crumbs, save the day and show everyone that Fleurwood Academy is the place to be!
A really fun book full of chaos, fun illustrations, and three characters who always seem to get in trouble~
I first saw this series promoted on Twitter and I was planning on buying them soon, imagine my delight when, while I was visiting a bookstore, I found this book there (and for a normal price). It just had to come with me! I could use some funny children’s books in my life!
In this book we meet a boy named Lenny. He has oodles of energy (sometimes a bit too much, but he reminded me of myself, haha) and inherently seems to get in trouble even though he doesn’t mean to. OK, sometimes he is just asking for it. But quite often he is just chaos energy personified. I have to say I instantly liked him.
I felt for Lenny and his friends when they found out that they were send away to do some meaningless task because there was someone coming to visit, someone important. That must really suck. I loved that instead of just being like, well, never mind, they went for things and wanted to make things right. Though as you may read in the blurb.. you can guess that chaos is following our group as the try just that.
Mostly that chaos is Crumbs, the school dog (yes, for real though that dog has as much chaos energy as Lenny, if not more). Crumbs is adorable. And chaos. But mostly adorable and I just wanted to hop in the story and give him a hug.
But the other chaos is a girl who thinks she is a dog. Yes. Remember the pig who thought he was a sheep? Well, this time it is a girl. She really goes full for it. And you know, while I could understand the despair of the parents, I quite like the girl. Plus, for some reason she seemed to understand Crumbs. And come on, I just loved seeing her with Crumbs, it was cute.
I loved that, despite the way the teachers and headteacher treat him and his friends, he tried his best to make sure the school looked good. I mean, I am not sure if I would have made a video about my school being great when I was treated this way. But I guess if the alternative is to go to an even worse school? Mm, I guess maybe I could find some care for the cause in me. Haha. I liked that they tried their best with the video.
I liked reading more about Lenny and his friends and also about his family.
The illustrations were just A-Plus. They really made me laugh and I love the style.
