Successful artist Jurgen Ziewe enjoyed his practice of meditation which helped balance him in his busy career. One day, he found himself out of his body in a reality that would be impossible to believe if he wasn’t the one experiencing it.
With a belief in science and approaching things from logic, Jurgen began testing these new vistas he found himself in, recording his discoveries in journals. Since then, he’s published two books on his OBEs (out-of-body experiences), sharing all that he’s learned from his decades of exploration of the astral realms.
His main frustration was that, even as an artist, there was no way to properly describe the otherworldly places he experienced. Until AI. With the help of new technology, he was finally able to utilize his background as an artist properly to bring what he experienced to life in photorealistic ways. He does just that in Elysium Unveiled: A Visual Odyssey of Life Eternal.
I enjoy hearing people’s Near-Death Experiences. They stretch my mind and help make me more open-minded. However, I always make sure to read with my analytical mind turned on so I do not lose myself in the beliefs of others. Because of this, I found Jurgen Ziewe’s two books on his Out of Body Experiences, and how he approaches what happened to him with logic, extra refreshing.
When I found out he was creating an illustrated book, rendering the places he experienced, I was beyond excited to finally see what he saw.
That said, my glowing review comes with one caveat. Like his other books, and most of the spiritual gurus out there, Ziewe makes blanket statements about humanity letting go of their ego, something I strongly disagree with.
A healthfully functioning ego is necessary to be a psychologically healthy, functioning human. (Anita Moorjani’s one of the few in the spiritual community that has a different view, and I highly recommend What if This is Heaven if you want to hear a more rational perspective on the importance of an ego from someone who had a Near-Death Experience.)
They often say that our beliefs slant what we see in the great beyond, and I think that’s just as true with Jurgen Ziewe. He might be more logical than most, but what he saw was most certainly colored by his Buddhist background and his belief in releasing an ego. However, his anti-ego rhetoric is one of the only things that bumps me with Ziewe’s writing. Because the guy is brilliant and genuine—and has so many interesting things to say—I can look past the ego stuff, as I do his minor typos.
Elysium Unveiled is my favorite of his books. The illustrations are candy for the eyes; stalwart skeptics will not change their beliefs, but I think even they would be uplifted by the beautiful art in this book. It would be great on any coffee table.
Thank you so much, Jurgen Ziewe, for so openly sharing your experiences.
