The adventures of Saree, Captain Ruhger, and the crew of Lightwave Fold Transport continue!
In her newly confirmed status as Queen of Lightwave Clutch, Saree plans to train new human clock maintainers to carry on the work she tuning fold clocks and smoothing space. But the skills that came so naturally to her prove difficult to transfer, and progress is slow.
When a shady faction in Gov Human decides to take matters into their own hands, Saree, Ruhger and Lightwave’s crew must run for their lives—and the lives of their future children.
Dependable allies refuse to assist them. Neutral parties become adversaries. And every fold seems to drop them into a hotter system with new enemies and more conspiracies. Saree and the crew are running out of time and places to hide.
Sometimes the best defense is attack. Do they dare take the fight to their enemies? And if they do, can they possibly survive?
I like this author. I like the overall series; I've read every one of the books in the series. This one says it is a new series, but it isn't. It is clearly a continuation; a new ark perhaps. This story, though, was a disappointment. It was not exciting and the story was bland. It felt like a filler, like a check-in to what's going on with our family of genius misfits. There was no character development either. Just, like I said, a check-in. There were at least two scenarios that should have been exciting and anxious. They weren't. I found myself skimming a lot. Will I read the next one? Yes. Definitely. I loved the previous books in the Folding Space series, so I know this COULD be good. If it isn't, though, then I will probably not continue. But, I will give it a chance.
To fully appreciate TIME GUILD, I recommend reading the Lightwave series first. You’ll love it! This book is intense. There’s non-stop action with literally constant life and death level threats. I prefer a bit of breathing space between crises and lots of feel good character interactions. There are also a number of pages of mechanical and technical descriptions of folder repairs for readers who are interested in such things. The crew is absolutely wonderful; each person is uniquely interesting, brilliant, and charismatic.
