Rate this book
Gods and Goddesses presents a treasury of more than 130 deities and highlights their special functions and spheres of influence. Drawn from the religious traditions of classical Greece and contemporary India, the Americas and Oceania, Europe and eastern Asia, Africa and ancient Egypt, they reflect our deep need for a spiritual dimension to our everyday lives - and also demonstrate, in the legends that surround them, how men and women have created divine beings in their own image.
With more than 200 illustrations selected from the wealth of art that the deities have inspired, this unique reference book will fascinate and delight all who are intrigued by gods and goddesses and the part they have played - and still play - in the cultural history of humankind.

This book definitely is not very good. It's missing many of my favorite stories from mythology. Also, several very important gods and goddesses are left out.

This factual book describes research about gods and

goddesses.Among all the gods, Poseidon is my favorite. He

is my favorite god; he was Zeus’s brother and he was the master

of the sea. This book has gods from other countries and

different cultures. This book is great for students who want to

research a particular god. In addition, it tell

many facts about gods and goddesses of all cultures, but it does

not tell about the unpopular gods. I like this book because it

tells me factual things and has Greek Gods that I'm learning

about in Latin. I recommend this book to all students that are

in latin and are learning about gods.

The book is about the different gods and goddesses in world mythology not just your typical Greek, Roman and Egyptian gods and goddesses. It also includes some Celtic, North European, African, etc. gods and goddesses. Elizabeth Hallam did a wonderful job on giving brief yet complete descriptions of each deity that she included. I give the layout of the book and the descriptions 4 out 5 stars. I wouldn't change anything in the book. I recommend this to anyone who loves mythology and studying world cultures.
