Tell me you wouldn’t leave Earth behind for the promise of a utopian life with an alien mate.

I dare you.

The Agency plays matchmaker for women willing to travel across two galaxies to a planet in desperate need of them.

Too bad I had to sell my soul to get on that ship.

When the Sian envoy arrived on Earth willing to trade almost anything for the one thing they need, I knew I wanted an alien of my own, and Richter… he’s perfect.

The Agency has requirements I couldn’t meet without help, and the organization that falsified my records wants information in return.

Those records might be the reason Richter isn’t the accountant I’d been matched with. If he was, I’d have been able to bore my handler back on Earth until they gave up on me. Instead, he’s a part of the Shadow Zone Brotherhood.

The paramilitary group tasked with protecting their world from the monstrous creatures that wiped out the female population three decades ago has plenty of secrets I could send back through the comm channels.

And even though he wasn’t supposed to be mine, now that the bond’s in place, no one can take him away from me.

The man who should have been my mate is determined to try.

Dalia Davies fell into monster romance--almost by accident--and loves it here. She drinks her weight in tea every day and has been told on numerous occasions that she “knows too much”.
She pairs old gods, monsters, and aliens with human women who get exactly what they want and maybe a little more than they came for.
Brought up on fairytales read while hiding in the back stacks of her small-town library and sneaking in creature features at friends' homes, she always wanted a way to meld two fantasies into one. When not writing, she plays the banjo poorly, dreams of traveling the world, and avoids large crowds and loud noises.
Living in the southwestern US, she lets the outside heat permeate her stories and hopes they leave you panting.

This is, of course, a pen name. It is one of many I write under. You can find my other works as:

”Welcome home.” I say. It feels strange to say that to another person. Strange, but right. As if the space has always needed her. As if it’s been waiting for her. As if I have, too. Richter, Ch. 2

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️
Spice: 2.5/5 🌶️

I found the book had a certain solemn atmosphere to it and I liked it a lot. The pacing was good and everything flowed very well together.

I can totally relate to Laurel. An agency that can match me with an alien on another planet? Sign me the hell up, please. Thinking that she doesn’t meet the necessary requirements, she gets help from a suspicious group. As for what they want in return? She will figure out her end of the bargain once she arrives on Isia first. She meets with her bondmate, but it is not the accountant she expected.

Richter is, of course, just a great alien MMC. He is part of a Brotherhood that patrols the Shadow Zone and hunts cavrinskh, monsters on their planet that is the cause of the extinction of their females. He tries to take things slow, but our girl knows what she wants and he definitely cannot deny his mate.

I would have loved to see Richter and Laurel bond beyond the physical. With what was shown of their relationship, I am not completely sold on their love for one another.

There is a mystery surrounding the Company (the group that helped Laurel), the cavrinskh and the origins of the Brotherhood that is very interesting, and the taste we get towards the end is just the tip of the iceberg. I am curious for more!

I enjoyed reading this book, for sure.
But I just felt like it could’ve been shorter and had the same impact.
It’s set up like it’s meant to be a novella. With the insta-lust that very quickly turns to love, and the subplot that’s interesting and intriguing but kept simple to fit. And the conflicts were super easily solved.
It kind of felt like a prequel, setup for the full story, kind of book.

🤷🏻‍♀️And that’s totally fine.
I still liked it.

I received an ARC and am leaving a review.

Yes to ALL of this book. I was a little bit nervous during the beginning of this book, but Davies came through like they always do.
Laurel and Richter were HOT for each other and still brought the tenderness during the plot heavy moments. This book was at least 40% spice. Both MCs were sexually confident and competent, so there was no fumbling around.
The plot was pretty dark at times, which I loved. High stakes is 100% my jam. I wasn’t anticipating the plot twist, which is ALWAYS a plus in my book.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: hypothermia, violence, gore, murder (off page), medical experimentation (off page), trafficking (off page)

First book of 2024 that I have loved.

I like competent MCs. I love that you feel the passion/connection between Laurel+Richter. Their sex scenes were hot and added on to the story/them literally getting closer.

I loved Laurel telling off the jerk (I can't even remember his name). For his book I'd love to see him literally worship the ground his potential wife walks on.

I love that there is an overall storyline and that hopefully each guy gets their partner.

I understand it's a Mars Needs Women series so primarily the women are there to get pregnant, but I'd love for a working woman. I know Cindy is a nurse, but we didn't really see it. I'd love to see an FMC who maybe works with the guys in some ways as they are trying to fight off the Cavrinskh.

More of Margot please.

I hope we get to see more from the landscape of Sian. Not just cozy winter cabin as the series continues.

I loved their communication. I'm also hoping/predicting maybe her two sisters will end up on Sian as well.

Richter scale de Dalia Davies Serie Shadow Zone Brotherhood libro 1

Argumento:

Adoré a Cindy!

Here's the thing... I specifically picked this book up for the express purpose of needing a silly little smutty alien book. And on that front, it delivered exceptionally. (This is the Dalia Davies who wrote the Easter Bunny smut so... You know.)

But this book suffered from major pacing inconsistencies and I think it had a lot to do with the excessive amount of spicy scenes. Spice for the sake of spice is fine unless you also have an actual plot that I'm trying to follow.

I enjoyed the premise. The beginning started off very interesting. I was a little confused on the whole "bonding" thing. Do they bond with anyone that they have a sexual encounter with? If so, that's super inconvenient. Do they have ways of preventing that? Do they just not have sex until they want to bond? Seems confusing. But I don't think that was ever addressed.

The middle was a slog. Definitely meandered and I think the sheet number of spicy scenes muddled it.

The ending picked back up and got interesting again. There is definitely more story to be told in the series. Unfortunately I don't know if there was enough side character development to make me interested in picking up the next one when it comes out. None of the other brothers really stood out to me.

So idk. It was fine and did what I needed it to do at the time.

Obsessed with Richter and this series already. It is HOT. Like whew. Blushing. Change your panties hot. But there's also phenomenal plot that will have you on the edge of your seat! Laurel accidentally walks off with the wrong alien match, oops! The agency made a little mistake but hey, no one's perfect! Richter has his own secrets too. Speaking of secrets... WOOF. Ok ok I won't give it away but seriously where do I get me one of these guys? Ridged peen? Dark fluids? Copious fluids? YOU KNOW IM ALLLL OVER IT. Also: SPACE BDSM CLUB. Yep. Go grab a copy right now.

This series is just fun to read. I've enjoyed all the plot points as they've appeared, and the characters are written very distinctly. I'm not sure how many of the pieces I've put together already, but my suspicions are flying and I enjoy that in a series. Really fun and quirky world, highly recommend.

Merry reading!

The Agency plays matchmaker for human women who are willing to travel across two galaxies to help a planet in desperate need. However, Laurel had to sell her soul to get on that ship.

When the Sian envoy arrived on Earth, she knew that she wanted an alien of her own, and Richter seemed absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, The Agency had certain requirements that Laurel couldn't meet without help, and the organization that falsified her records wants information on the Sian people in return. Laurel accepted their terms, believing she was matched to an accountant and thinking that they'd get bored of whatever information she might be able to provide. But when a mix-up happens, she learns that Richter isn't the account she was originally matched with, but rather a member of the Shadow Zone Brotherhood which is a paramilitary group tasked with protecting their world from monstrous creatures. Despite not being her intended mate, the bond is now in place, and no one can take him away from her. However, the man who should have been her mate is determined to try.

"I want to spend every moment with you. This bond is the most perfect gift you could ever have given me."

When Dalia Davies did the cover reveal for this book, I was frothing at the mouth. I am a sucker for alien romances and I've recently discovered that I really enjoy Dalia Davies as an author so it just felt like the best of both worlds. I immediately jumped at the chance to be an ARC reviewer and the moment it hit my Kindle, I dove right in and it definitely did not disappoint. So first and foremost, thank you Dalia for sending me an advanced e-copy to read and review.

I think one of my favorite things about alien romance is the world-building that can go into it. This particular book isn't necessarily futuristic, just like an alternate timeline of Earth which I thought was great. I also really appreciated that the focus was on the two of them back on his home planet and less time was spent in the build-up of it (like her traveling and all of that, which I feel can sometimes get a bit unnecessarily info-dumpy). Dalia Davies set this one up in a very fun and easy-to-follow way while also painting a really rich description of an alien species I'm very excited to continue reading about! I hope that we get more of a peek into what happened with the monsters and how that whole thing is going to pan out and I think that the ending of this book was a great set up for the next book!

Laurel was a fun character, her interactions with her family throughout this felt really relatable and I thought it was an interesting approach to have her essentially have her whole life plan from the moment they came to Earth be that she wanted to sign up to go over to them! I think she's a wonderful fmc to start the series off with because she's super easy to love and want to root for, flaws and all! And Richter, I said this in a thread and I think probably in Dalia's DMs on Instagram but I would very much so like to sign up to get me one of him because he was such a dreamy alien. I am also just a sucker for any sort of bond/soulmate situation and this one heavily delivered on that front. He is protective without being unbelievably overbearing where it has you rolling your eyes and the way that he just wants to worship her is swoon-worthy.

I cannot wait to see where this series takes us next and to find out how the overarching plot is going to go!

- human fmc / alien mmc
- alien planet setting
- fast burn
- they are obsessed with each other
- lots of spicy scenes
- insta lust (maybe insta love-ish)
- mistaken identity
- pregnancy

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
*ARC review*
So we have an adventure on the other side of the world.
This story follows Laurel - human girl - who decided to sign up for a program promising an alien mate. When she arrived to a new plane she met HIM. Richter is huge and a little bit scary, but mate is a mate, right?
What they will do when it’s obvious that they were not a mates program assigned them to? Can they change anything? What happened with their partners? What’s going on with this planet? And monsters are trying to kill mates of warriors from brotherhood? What superpowers or abilities do our brothers have?

I liked how both of them dive deep into their connection with reckless abandonment. The physical chemistry was so good and entertaining to watch. So many interesting places to explore obsession with your mate and his body.
The seeds of global plot and conflict which were planted in second part of the books are definitely making me wish to wait and read second book (hopefully this year?). I have so many questions and men from brotherhood seem quite intriguing to me. Lore and world were interesting and captivating. Need answers now!

The only drawback for me was quantity of steamy scenes. It’s not an issue usually, but i was so invested in this story so i devoured it in two evenings, so it was quite alot in shot period of time (but for characters events pf this story took place in span of couple of months). But I’m confident that when i will reread this book before reading sequel, i will rate this book higher.

This is my 2nd book by Dalia Davies and I must say her FMCs are really my jam!
Their no-nonsense / straight-to-point kind of way + are comfortable in their body and sexuality + have relatable personalities. I find them very multidimensional, they feel real. 🙌✨

The story's mostly spicy & very sweet with both MCs obsessed with each other. I love a healthy relationship (at least as healthy as it could be all things considered 😂). Love the honesty, vulnerability & care between them. 😌🦋

But it also takes a very interesting turn around the middle and before the end, and I can't wait to discover more of the entire plot with the next book of this series!! 🙌

Dalia Davies is a mastermind of plots. This books, although short, has a great plot line and i'm so excited to learn more about this world and the politics of it. Saying that, those aspects were my favorites and the relationship was also pretty good. However (and I know this is a very personal opinion) the spice lowered this from a 4 star to a 3 star, mostly because i felt like it didn't really add anything to the relationship or the plot most of the time, and even if i'm a sucker for spicy books I was just really overwhelmed, I don't know if it was because I wasn't in the mood for that much smut or if it was because I was really invested on the plot that I just wanted to keep things moving.

I love alien series and hopefully the next books in the series continue to build this amazing world and we get to learn more about the Brotherhood and also follow along the other couples (and see the babies, PLEASE let me see the babies)

Overall, it's a great start for a series. The characters are really good and complex, even if the relationship can be overshadow by the spicy scenes (just because I'm not a fan of professions of love during it)

Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book!

Are you ready for a mail order bride romance but make it alien romance with a touch of mistaken identity, an actual plot, some fantastic spice, and of course - romance!? Richter Scale is so much fun, and so well written, I honestly really loved this entire book.

Laurel and Richter are adorable together and I just wanted and needed them to be happy together. Add in secondary characters that I am needing, craving, begging for their stories and this is just a stellar, fun first outing in what I’m hoping will be a long series.

I can’t blame Laurel for wanting to take part in this mail order bride business with a hot alien for a new husband. I’d sign up to if it included Richter at the end of the journey. I absolutely loved Richter’s character, I dare say I like him a little bit more than Laurel, don’t get me wrong she’s great too, but Richter. . .he’s just adorably perfect book boyfriend material.

If you’re into alien romance, then you’re going to want to grab this one!

Okay so this book is almost non stop high quality smut with just enough plot to keep things interesting and flowing well. The characters were so lovely and endearing, and I never found myself being frustrated or annoyed with their choices.

I loved this take on the alien mail order bride and mars needs women tropes, mostly because it wasn't filled with the usual relationship angst. While there is some tension/drama, it's handled in a satisfying and emotionally mature way with no infuriating miscommunication.

While it doesn't necessarily end in a cliffhanger, it definitely left me with a lot of unanswered questions that make me excited to read the next 2 books.

Welllllllll, I read this because Ruby Dixon shared it on her Insta story.
The premise is interesting. I always love new worlds.
First thing that annoyed me is the guy's name. Why would an alien 2 wormholes away wow have a German family name as his first name? Ugh. And assuming how English speakers pronounce that name makes it even more awful.
Second thing, there was such potential for the background story, but all we get is s*x. In every chapter, many chapters only about that one thing.
Third thing that threw me off was the swinger club. Seriously wtf!? Double ugh.
That spy agenda is also totally stupid. I gotta say, I'll pass on the other books. A bummer, but I'd rather read stories with more substance.

I'm a lover of alien romance and Dalia did not disappoint! Not only was there insta-love/attraction and adorable romance, but the world building and plot was exciting. The spice wasn't too crazy but there's ALOT of it. Like every chapter I think. Sometimes I felt like it was too much, but their relationship was so sweet I didn't really mind.

I hope we get to see more of the Brotherhood! I loved the scenes with them all together.

Great first book to the series!

This was a fun read. It’s got romance, intrigue, spice, and all the feels. The romance was fun I really enjoyed watching Laurel take what she wanted even if it wasn’t the accountant she was expecting and Richter being ready to go along for the ride. These two fun to watch as the story progressed. Outside of the romance the rest of the plot and the world building really pulled me in. It has me excited to see what the rest of this series brings. With the twists, reveals and meeting the rest of the brotherhood, in this book I am sure it’s gonna be a great time.

Did not expect to love this as much as I did and I’m absolutely delighted by that development. It’s “mars needs women” trope but Davies makes it her own with emotionally mature MCs quickly captivated by one another coupled with tender, emotionally intimate moments in a sex positive culture.

There’s a lot of spice but it’s beautifully balanced with the relationship development and never feels like it’s added to excess; they’re simply two people who have that rare immediate connection and can’t get enough one another. The world building is fun and unique and the pacing was great for the story being told. Extremely eager for book 2.

4.5 stars rounded up!

This was such a fun (& super spicy) read. And it was freaking hilarious.

Richter Scale was steamy (I mean there’s an alien BDSM club and some of the stuff in there is wild 🥵) but I found it still delivered on plot.

And now I need some more 👽 in my life 💕

Laurel (human) and Richter (alien) end up getting matched (or so they think- there was a mix up) and Laurel leaves earth for a permanent life with her alien man. She was supposed to be matched with a boring accountant so she could help spy on the aliens but instead she ends up bonding with Richter and helps him keep their planet safe while doing it pretty much constantly 🙃

Awesome!!

Dalia is slowly becoming one of my “if they write it I’ll read it authors”. This book was absolutely amazing! The mix up, the bonding, the Brotherhood. I loved Richter and his easy going demeanor. The way he worships Laurel? Jealous.

I was also glad that Laurel didn’t roll over. She decided she wanted something, did everything she could to get it and then found a way to fix her problem. Love that for her.

Also I want drone deliveries! A wall panel you can order from, and a medical facility in the darn basement? Yes please.

I can’t wait to see more relationships form amongst the Brotherhood.

TBH went into this thinking this was gonna be another mid sci fi smut and be overly corny. But i really like the beginning plot and how the characters are just so happy with each other, and the bonding mate thing is interesting.

It combines what I do like about Ice Planet Barabarians but not making it Unga Bunga times and more advanced society.

It is kinda similar to that one Space Bubble Girls (the ones with I wanted sushi and I got kidnapped by aliens or whatever) and I also enjoyed that series although this one ranks higher in my opinion because it's giving a dash of reality to each FMC and in this case it was a real page turner in terms of ACTUAL plot and not just smut lol

I think I was a little too horny on main when selecting this book to read. A chick essentially leaves her human life to be a baby maker/mate for a hot alien man on a planet that had all the females of their species decimated because of the planet's predators. I overlooked how fangirly the FMC was over these alien men in general and the fact that she even had a replica toy of their genitals to essentially train herself with.

I'm not trying to kink shame anyone, but there's a fine line between being eager and being downright bad for some green men.

The side conflicts were eh? I don't know. Just not feeling it.

richter and laurel are so stinking cute!!!! i loved how deeply they love each other. it was so great getting to see the process of them realizing the “mistake” the agency made but deciding they don’t care about that and there’s no way they’re going to be separated. i bumped it down to four stars because i ended up being confused or just didn’t pick up on things until they were explicitly said later on. i don’t know if this is just a me thing and i just simply didn’t get it or if it’s something that would be a problem for anyone else.

Let me tell you why, I was so bored. The biggest problem I had was the lack of descriptions. The only reason I know what the main characters look like is because of the cover (which isn't great). It was so insta love that it didn't feel like they had a genuine connection. Again, my biggest problem was that I couldn't really picture what everyone looked like or what the world around them really looked like. It also didn't feel like the first book in the series, I kept thinking that I was missing context to things.
