My Brother's Grumpy Best Friend

Rate this book
This is a kisses only, sweet romance.

My checklist guarantees my brother a flawless wedding. I've missed nothing…except for the one person I never expected to be there.

Male voices grab my attention. My eyes lock on one in particular.

Of course, my idiot brother forgot to tell me who his best man is.

Archer Sullivan. My high school crush.

Ten years have passed since I saw him, and he still leaves me breathless.

Archer’s intense gaze makes me feel transparent. His silence even more so. My easy smile wobbles under his scrutiny.

The more time I spend with him, the more my defenses crumble. He’s penetrating the armor encasing my heart. I can’t resist him. .

I’m falling for my brother’s grumpy best friend…again.

This stand alone is a clean, brother’s best friend, grumpy/sunshine, small town, military, sweet and swoony friend romance. Let yourself get swept up with Rosaline and Archer as they realize that they have always been each other’s true love. Just like with all my other books, I hope you fall in love with the two of them and are left wanting more!

It's a sweet slow burn romance with small town cosy vibes, and follows Rosaline coordinating her brother's wedding, and unexpectedly reconnecting with his best man - her childhood crush.
The dual POV switch between chapters helps you get insight into Rosaline and Archer's thoughts and intentions, and explores how they have been hopelessly and obliviously in love with each other, but reluctant to say anything, or fearful of rejection. I like that it also covered Archer's trauma and fears of being broken, and explored his road of recovery.

5⭐🎧 Audible Narrators - Lexi Balter & Zach Young

I enjoyed listening to this audio book. The dual POV is portrayed so well between the two narrators, they embody Archer and Rosaline so well and portray their feelings with such ease that your drawn into the story.
Rosaline's bubbly personality really shone through, as well as Archer's grumpyness, doubts and vulnerability.
It pulled you into the drama and wedding stresses seemlessly, balanced against the growing tension from the slow burn romance as they spend more time together and embrace their connection.
I enjoyed the side characters voices too, especially as there were lots of groomsmen and bridesmaids to portray alongside the main characters, but it was easy to follow along who was who, and not lose focus.

❤️"She's always found joy in the most mundane things, and has a way of infecting others with that same feeling"

❤️"Rosaline's presence is intoxicating and I wanna put a lid on it before I get addicted"

❤️"She's the only one who shines sunlight into the misery that is my life"

❤️"I actually had a moment imagining her as my bride. Neither my heart or my brain rejected the idea, instead it craved and welcomed it"

❤️"I want to be his peace, his refuge"

I received an ARC of this book with the promise of giving an honest review. This was a quick, light rom-com that I finished in less than a day. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I save 5 star reviews for books that absolutely blow me away. This wasn’t quite there, but it was a solid read.

My Brother’s Grumpy Best Friend by Abby Grayson, follows Rosaline and Archer’s story. This a sweet friend’s to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, romantic comedy, along with PTSD military moments.

The dual audio narration was well done and I liked that each narrator would cover their characters scenes in each others chapters. Also the fact that the chapters are broken up in YouTube makes it easy to continue when I needed to pause and knew which chapter I was up to.

This is a standalone and I’ll definitely be continuing with other books from this author.

Another great read by Abby Greyson!

I really enjoyed this audiobook and found myself loving the hilarious banter between all of the characters.

I love a good brother’s best friend trope, the taboo of it, and the sense of forbidden love makes a great story. Add in small town and I'm hooked.

This one had a bit of a dark edge too, with the MMC'S military background.

You get:
• Sweet Romance
• Small Town
• Brother's Best Friend
• Childhood Friends To Lovers
• Veteran MMC
• Dual POV
• Mental Health Representation

I highly recommend this one and I suggest you pick up one of her books ASAP! Available on Amazon through KU, paperback, and audiobook.

When Rosaline’s brother is to marry his high school sweetheart, she is in her element. She has always loved planning events so is it any wonder she steps in to organise the wedding. She’s crossed t’s dotted i’s but she forgot one guest for her lists… Archer his best man and her crush. He’s an ex military man who carries scars and survivors guilt, suffers from recurring nightmares and is insecure in relationships. Rosaline has crushed on Archer and hasn’t seen him in ten years. How could she forget that it would be him who he chose as best man. When he turns up a few days before the wedding the two connect and while she’s planning and running about doing messages he realises that she is the one he wants but can’t tell her how he truly feels and ends it leaving Rosaline dismayed and confused. Coming to his senses do they both get their second chance at love. Her bestie Elle sure hopes so as well as her husband to be Archer . Great writing style that pulls at the heartstrings and writes empathetically, I was rooting for them with the great descriptions and good structure with solid characters that are relatable.

Abby Greyson's novel "My Brother's Grumpy Best Friend" was an experience that both touched me and made me smile. The two main characters in the story, Rosaline and Archer, both spoke to my heart, and the chapters told from their perspectives gave me a real insight into their emotions and development.

Rosaline's character as an event planner fits perfectly into this charming small-town setting. From the beginning of the story, I was captivated by the way she throws herself into planning her brother's wedding and tries to make everything perfect. However, her high school sweetheart, Archer, unexpectedly returns into her life, rekindling old feelings she's been trying to bury for a decade.

Archer's character is perhaps the most complex and fascinating element of the story. His military past, his time in the Special Forces, and his struggle with PTSD add deeper layers to the novel. Abby Greyson masterfully captures the man's inner struggles, while not forgetting to show the emotional wall that Archer has built around himself. The chemistry between him and Rosaline is undeniable from the first minute, but their slow, gradual reconnection is beautifully portrayed.

One of the book's greatest assets is that the author not only portrays the relationship between the two main characters in a genuine way, but also makes the supporting characters memorable. The camaraderie that develops between the groomsmen and bridesmaids, the bonds of friendship laced with humour, all contribute to making the story feel real and heartfelt. Abby Greyson effortlessly alternates between humorous and emotional scenes, while sensitively tackling the themes of PTSD and war trauma.

I would like to highlight the audiobook experience, where the duo of Lexi Balter and Zach Young brought the characters to life. Their performances really added an extra dimension to the story, helping me to experience Rosaline and Archer's emotional journey even more deeply.

Overall, Abby Greyson's "My Brother's Grumpy Best Friend" is a beautifully written, touching and entertaining story that is both light-hearted and deeply affecting. I recommend it to anyone who loves small-town romances, the idea of finding each other again, and who enjoys reading (or listening to) stories that touch on important social issues. Abby Greyson's novel takes us into a world where love, humour, and acceptance go hand in hand.

Everyone Knows But Them

This book revolves around the heroine's brother's marriage. His best friend is the book’s hero. His little sister has had a crush on him since they were teenagers, but she never let him know back in the day. When she sees him again 10 years later for the first time since he left town, the old feelings come rushing back. But something about him has definitely changed.

The story takes place as all the groomsmen and bridesmaids are essentially having a house party over the weekend as they're waiting for the wedding. I liked the way the author portrayed the relationship between the guys, as it showed the easy camaraderie very well. It certainly came across that they've been good friends for a long time. The bridesmaids weren't all known to each other, but they quickly became good friends. It is actually a great idea to have a romance take place during a house party. You rarely see that in contemporary romance; it is almost cliche in historical romance (though a well-loved one!). The forced proximity makes for interesting encounters between all involved and puts the hero and heroine in the hot seat! I like how no female character was made to be a villain, even though two were interested in the hero aside from the heroine. Even the hero’s ex, who is often the villain in a romance of any time period, showed depth of character in her sincere desire for her ex to be happy.

The hero has crippling PTSD after a few dangerous missions in special forces, and he does not believe he is serious relationship material for any woman because of it. He has terrible nightmares and responds instinctively to unexpected touch, lashing out protectively. He has that struggle to get beyond, plus he believes his friend would not approve of him being romantically involved with his little sister. I like how the author showed that pretty much everyone around the couple knew how much they cared about each other—some even knowing a decade ago!—but them!

I received a promo code for this book, but that did not affect my review.

My Brother's Grumpy Best Friend was about 25-year-old Rosaline Morris, an events coordinator, and 29-year-old Archer Sullivan, the CEO of a real estate company who was also retired from the Army/Special Forces unit.
As Rosaline was planning her brother's wedding to her BFF, she was surprised by the revelation that her high school crush was going to be his best man. Archer had always been her brother's BFF, but she hadn't realized they had stayed in touch over the past ten years. She wasn't sure how to handle the situation.
Archer had joined the Army at the age of 19 and had quickly moved up the ranks to a Special Forces unit. Unfortunately during his second mission, his troop met with an ambush, of which he was the sole survivor. At the age of 24, he was given an honorable discharge due to his injuries and the PTSD that followed the mission. He wasn't expecting Rosaline to have grown up so much, even though ten years had passed since he'd last seen her.
These two main characters struggled with their feelings for each other as well as watching the other around members of the opposite sex.
This was a slow-burning, clean story with plenty of angst and drama. However, unlike most books of this genre, the two main characters were both mature enough to communicate with each other when a misunderstanding took place. But then emotions would take over and get in the way from time to time, drawing the story out a tad further than necessary.
The storyline and the plot were well done, with very few unresolved issues. It was nice to see that, although there was other men/women drama, no one was hateful with each other. But then that made for a bit of a boring read because there was hardly any conflict, other than what the two main characters created for themselves. I gave this a four-star rating, even though there weren't any spicy scenes. It was still a very good story.

“My Brother’s Grumpy Best Friend” by Abby Greyson

I received a free copy of this book prior to publication as a member of the author’s ARC team. I am writing my completely voluntary and honest review.
Abby Greyson has an art for bringing the reader completely into the story by involving their deepest emotions within the beginning of the book and never releasing the reader until the very last page. All of her characters are completely believable and draw the reader into hoping for success for them. As with Abby Greyson’s previous books there is a theme about what happens to some of our veterans in her latest book. In “My Brother’s Grumpy Best Friend” we follow Archer who suffers so much from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from the war, that he isn’t sure he can ever have a loving relationship that might lead to a committed future. The author always also points out that the issues that impact our veterans also impact civilian family members and friends that care about them. In this book we see, Rosaline planning and carrying out her brother Luke’s wedding to her high school friend Elle. Archer was also their friend 10 years ago in high school and he reunites with Rosaline when he arrives a few days early to be the best man. Will Archer be able to move past his past enough to create a future or will Rosaline and Archer push their feelings aside the way they did 10 years ago? Do Luke and Elle wind up having the wedding of their dreams? You won’t regret reading Abby Greyson’s latest Masterpiece of the human heart.

My Brother’s Grumpy Best Friend by Abby Grayson is a sweet, swoony small-town romance that delivers exactly what it promises: comfort, chemistry, and soft, clean romance vibes. If you love low-angst stories with familiar tropes and emotional payoff, this one hits the spot.

Rosaline and Archer’s reunion is tender and nostalgic, with that first love, never really forgotten energy woven throughout. The brother’s best friend trope is done well here—especially with the added tension of a wedding setting and years of unspoken feelings. Archer’s quiet, grumpy demeanor paired with Rosaline’s warmth creates a classic grumpy/sunshine dynamic that feels genuine rather than forced.

I really enjoyed how gentle and heartfelt this story was. The pacing is quick (it is a novella), but the emotional beats still land, especially the way trust and vulnerability slowly build between them. While I wished for a bit more depth in places, the sweetness and swoon easily made up for it.

This is a great pick if you’re in the mood for something cozy, romantic, and easy to fall into.

Tropes:
• Brother’s best friend
• Grumpy x sunshine
• Second-chance romance
• Small-town romance
• Wedding setting
• Childhood/high school crush
• Clean / kisses-only romance

Content Warnings:
• Mentions of military service
• Emotional vulnerability
• Mild family tension

Overall, a charming and comforting read that’s perfect for fans of sweet, clean romance with plenty of heart. 💜📖

This book centres around the romance between Rosaline and Archer.

Rosaline is planning her brother’s wedding to her best friend, but I struggled with the fact that a lot of the errands she was doing during the final week are things which should have been completed weeks beforehand (the designer was showing her what the bridesmaids dress looked like (for what seemed to be the very first time), and saying the bridesmaids needed to come in for a fitting in a few days. Instead of just picking up the groom’s suit, he needed to have the final fitting--which he didn’t even end up doing). The person making the wedding cake didn’t seem to have started it.

Archer has PTSD from his military service, and struggles with physical touch.
Both Rosaline and Archer had crushes on one another in high school.
They end up working together on wedding errands, admitting their feelings, until Archer tries to break them up in the third act because he thinks he’s bad for her.

He does a grand gesture, and they get back together, and everyone lives happily ever after.

I should have known when I picked this up and it was written in the first person present tense, I was going to struggle with it, but I kept reading, so I guess that’s on me. If you like pre-wedding romances, this might be a good pick for you.

☆Rosaline and Archer☆
This story was so cute, I adored every minute of it! Rosaline and Archer have known each other since high school, thanks to him being best friends with her brother Luke. For years, they've had a crush on each other but never communicated it. Now it's 10 years later, and they're reuniting for Luke's wedding. Eventually, they get their second shot at love, but it doesn't come easily.
I completely loved the storyline and all of the characters. I felt like almost all of them were the main characters in their own way. Rosaline was such a sweetheart and an amazing sister to Luke! She went above and beyond for his wedding, and not too many people can say that about their siblings. Archer was such a great friend! I loved how he was always worried about Luke and thinking about how he would feel when it came to him being with his sister. It really showed why Archer is his best friend! As far as the narration goes, it was perfect! The narrators put a lot of emotions into the scenes and really made the story come to life. I was able to finish reading it within a couple of hours because I did not want to stop listening! I'll definitely be re-reading this one in the future!

Thanks so much to the author and booksprout for the ALC copy!

Fun, good story with drama also -bc of course there is a wedding and drama lol
We have Rosaline who did not know her brother's best friend was coming to his wedding. She is shocked to see him when they go to the airport to pick up all the guys. She has had a crush on him forever. There is some past (background) info that is important... keep reading and you will find it all out. Archer is the groom's best friend and is not prepared to see Rosaline again.
They are both attached to each other and neither of them realizes it. Rosaline thinks he hates her.
Their adventures are fun and this book keeps you def sucked in and you can't wait to see what happens next.
These 2 end up spending a lot of time with each other, doing wedding activities and errands and their feelings get stronger. Having some heart-felt conversations and drama this book is so entertaining.
I loved it.
Can't say much more, bc I don't want to ruin it but I can say that it ends with HEA!!!

I am so glad that I got the opportunity to read this book, thanks to the publisher and Booksprout. THe above is my review/opinion, it is honest and voluntary.

My Brother's Grumpy Best Friend by Abby Greyson is a super sweet story. Rosalie has had a crush most of her life on her brother's best friend Archer. After high school, Archer joined the military and after 2 tours, exited with an intense case of PTSD. Rosalie is an event planner that is in charge of her brother's wedding. Somehow, she didn't realize that Archer was going to be a part of the wedding and she also didn't know that Archer has had a crush on her since high school. It is interesting watching the adult versions of Archer and Rosalie get to know one another again and discover that they each had liked each other back in high school. I really enjoyed the story. It is very sweet and innocent. At times, I had a hard time believing that the characters were in their twenties when their behaviors' and language seemed much younger.

This was another fun, fairly well written read in the clean romance genre. The story itself was okay. I did think the PTSD elements added depth and an extra thing for the main couple to overcome, though it did feel like it was overcome quite easily and I was a bit shocked/concerned for Rosaline with how readily she accepted and wanted to be involved in what Archer was going through, when really, the fact he was pushing her away should have meant more discussions around this for her own well-being and to make sure he is getting appropriate support. That part felt a bit rushed, but it's a romance, so what was I expecting?

The best part of this whole thing is seriously Luke. He is one hilarious character, and his interactions with Rosaline are great. Often, secondary characters aren't given a lot of love in romance novels because of the tight commitment to the central plot, but his character was excellent and hats off to the author for doing a great job, and also using his hilarity to lighten the mood.

A delightful romantic comedy that blends the charm of small-town life with the sweet tension of a friends-to-lovers storyline.

The plot centres on Rosaline, who is organising her brother’s wedding, only to discover that the best man is her high school crush, Archer Sullivan.

Their reunion after ten years sparks an engaging mix of nostalgia and unresolved feelings, making for an entertaining read.

The characters are well-crafted, with Rosaline’s sunny disposition contrasting with Archer’s gruff exterior.

This grumpy/sunshine dynamic adds depth and humour to their interactions, keeping readers invested in their strengthening relationship.

Greyson’s writing is sweet and heartfelt, capturing the complexities of unspoken love and personal growth.

One area for improvement might be the predictability of certain plot points, but this does not detract from the overall enjoyment and audiences expect it in this genre.

Greyson’s talent for crafting relatable characters and heartwarming scenes makes this a must-read for those seeking a heartwarming romance.

Archer and Rosaline have had a crush on each other since Highschool, but no one has ever admitted it. Running into each other at Rosalines Brothers wedding forces them to have to deal with those feelings. Both want to fight what they feel, and can't believe 10 years have passed and they still like each other. But when they finally share their feelings, issues arise that threatened to ruin their future. Much of it is insecurity. Who they were in highschool and who they are now, is much different. If they want a chance at something together they'll need to open up and let eachother in ... or risk the only true love they've ever experienced being lost for good!

I loved this story. My heart went back and forth between breaking over their unspoken feelings and flutters as they finally looked to open up. Such a good story! Can't wait to read another by Abby!

Great story, good pace, kept my interest, and I liked the characters. Classic younger sister (Rosaline) and older brother's best friend (Archer) are together ten years later when Rosaline is wedding planner for her brother's wedding, and Archer is best man. They were attracted to each other in younger years; they admit it now, have some heart-to-heart time and get to know each other again amidst wedding errands and activities...and then, of course, he pushes her away, ends it. I felt the emotional hit for Rosaline. And while Archer changes his mind and wants to make it right, and everything works out in the end, I wish he'd have done it differently. Still, he was going through his own stuff and was glad to see in the epilogue that he was dealing with it.

This is a standalone, sweet romance read / listen. Well written and narrated this book was a quick listen that flowed smoothly. Focusing on our main characters as Rosaline, an events planner and sister of the groom and Archer, best man and best friend, CEO and retired armed forces find themselves reunited after a decade during a house party prior to the wedding of said brother and best friend. Rosaline had crushed on Archer years ago but now, he's a completely different person and well, they're not kids anymore. A slow burn, clean romance read / listen with plenty of angst and drama but a heartwarming conclusion. A great romance listen and I'm excited for more!

**Audiobook Review**

Overall - 5/5*
Performance - 4/5*
Story - 5/5*

Rosaline and Archer are THAT couple, who crushed on each other in high school, and just about everyone else saw it, except them. And now that Archer is in town for Rosaline's brother's wedding, they realise that those feelings never left.

But considering their history, and especially Archer's, can they make things work?

I loved Rosaline's sunshine. I loved how she went out of her way to make her brother's wedding super special. And I loved how she helps to calm Archer's crazy.

I enjoyed the Dual Narration, and loved what Lexi Balter and Zach Young brought to the story.

I didn’t like anything about this. It felt so out of touch & unrealistic. Like this just simply didn’t seem like the way people act or speak to each other.

The couple has been together for 12 years (since their senior year of high school & they’re 29 now) yet none of their friends have met?? The FMC is good friends with her brother and his fiancé yet she doesn’t know who her brother’s best friend is? It’s bizarre.

The lines “it sounds cringe” and ‘flash mobs are a new trend at weddings now” (in 2023?!) really just confirmed this as a 1 star for me. It was a quick read, at least.

I would not personally recommend this but I hope if you pick this up, it works better for you than it did for me.

Short Summary:

Rosaline is an event coordinator so she has decided to help plan her brother’s wedding. Rosie didn’t know Archer would be there. He is her brother’s best friend that she has a crush on growing up.

Archer went into the Army after high school. He was honorably discharged and has PTSD. He now runs a very successful real estate company. Archer is returning home to be the best man in his best friend’s wedding. He didn’t expect Rosie to be so grown up. It makes it hard to pretend he doesn’t have feelings for her.

My thoughts:

I enjoyed Rosie and Archer’s characters.

Archer’s PTSD scares him because he is worried one day he could really hurt Rosie. It concerns her but she is willing to stand by him to help him through it. I think Greyson handled this topic very well.

The banter between everyone was done really well. This was an enjoyable, quick read.

Thank you to Abby Greyson for the complimentary copy.

The author was kind to give me this arc free for a voluntary review. This was a quick short sweet romance with a happy ever after. The grooms sister is in charge of coordinating the wedding but then finds out his best friend from high s hook who she had a crush on was the best man snd wasn’t told .
Archer had always liked her but he did not think he should try because of his severe ptsd from his life in the military .
I liked the set of characters and the way the fmc was willing to help him with his issues. Sweet book . Kisses only .

I loved Rosie and Archer's story! Rosie had a lot of responsibility as her brother's wedding planner, and she hadn't considered that her former crush would be around for the craziness the week before. There is a lot of baggage between Rosie and her brother's best man, but the feelings are definitely still there.

This book is a fun read, navigating old feelings and seeing what the future might hold. The scene when they go to get her brother's wedding gift was so sweet!!! My first read by this author but certainly not the last!

Rosaline and Archer’s Story . . .

Rosaline is the wedding planner for her brother’s wedding. But he forgot to mention something very important! His best man would be the man she had a huge crush on, Archer Sullivan. And she can feel that the feelings she had for him are still strong. She hadn’t seen him in 10 years, but it made no difference in how she reacts. And apparently there is no stopping this. Is she heading for a broken heart? Or has she just been unaware that he has loved her from the beginning? Will they find their HEA this time?

about time
This book is so much more than a romantic comedy, it reminds us what is really important in life and Rosaline and Archer´s story really touched my heart. Nobody is perfect, we all have packages to carry and issues to solve so when you have been in love for ages don´t let the chance at a supportive partner, true love and happiness pass you by. Everybody deserves love, nobody is too broken to deserve support, a second chance and a happy life surrounded by people who will stand by you no matter what.
