Celebration is the conscious decision to live our lives with joy. In the midst of turmoil, pain, and adversity, in bad times and good, joy is the great companion our Heavenly Father intended us to have.
You can't help but feel happy when you read this book! I think the one thing I took away from it was when Edwards talks about how we shouldn't complain about being a wife or a mother in particular, because we willingly signed up for it. When you decide to marry, the good and bad come all wrapped up in one little package. Same with children. So no complaining!! I have really tried to look for the positive aspects of some of the duties I perform that are less than desirable, like folding laundry. I have to say I feel much better doing it when I think of how I chose to do it, instead of being forced to do it. I also liked her analogy of the last 3 percent, and the story of the tulip field. This was a good little book that inspired me to make some improvements. :)
I loved this book. She made me want to be a better wife, mother, and homemaker without making me feel guilty for not being perfect. Some of her ideas are so creative and I want to implement them in my life right away, and other ideas are a bit over the top and I absolutely won't do, but that's okay.
After considering my rating I switched from a 5 to a 4. If there were an option for 4.5 I would give this book that rating. I really enjoyed this book and I know I will read it again. It wasn't perfect though.
I've only read bits and pieces of this book online, but I love it. She shares ideas about finding everyday joys. She also shares a few ideas for simplifying your life to have time to enjoy your family.
Best quote in the book: "The gift of daily celebration is bound up in our ability to see the hand of the Lord, the Creator, in all things..." I loved so many of her ideas, including doing "the last 3%," and "listing simple joys." Thanks Lorraine!
I really liked this book! I did not remember of putting it on hold at the library so when I picked it up it I was not too excited. She talks a lot about finding joy in the little things and looking at life with joyful eyes. I even bought the book so I can read it again and underline it!
The book is pretty cheesy, but it was a good reminder of how attitude plays a big part in our decision to live with joy and celebration. I did find that there were small easy to incorporate ideas in the book that can work to pull you out of a rut.
Written by my dad's cousin, who just recently passed away. She was the mother of 12 children.....I loved this book. I have given several copies as gifts over the years.
