Considered ‘one of the best classic novels for young boys and girls of all time’, A Little Princess is the perfect read for book lovers, fans of The Secret Garden, and timeless children’s classics!
Apparently this was one of my wife's favorite movies growing up The story is very familiar, but I don't precisely remember reading or watching it before. I can't tell if it is a cultural consciousness thing, or, more likely, if I watched it as a kid, or had it read to me as a kid, but anyways, it wasn't exactly a surprise.
Sara inspires us to act as a princess (or a prince) in light of being kind to all of humanity, no matter what. To come to a place of loving others as ourselves and loving God is what Jesus calls us to do is acting with kindness, in part. This book was definitely an encouragement in doing that even when I feel like showing my anger in unkind ways. To be kind in any situation shows great character, and Jesus likes it when we're kind to others! The lesson of "A little kindness goes a long way" was the biggest takeaway from this book. This book is also nostalgic to me because my Nana showed me the movie rendition when I was a young girl. She called me her practical princess, so in a way, I felt like a princess just like Sara.
A beautiful, captivating story! A beloved classic! I enjoyed every moment of this wonderful tale. Oh! That we could all be a bit more like Sara! I love the wonder, the romantic fantasies and vivid imaginations, the magic and splendor of it all. May we all resolve to live a to act and to think and to speak - with such great grace, kindness, compassion, empathy and wisdom as Ms. Sara Crewe.
I loved this story as a child and really enjoyed reading it again. If I had been reproducing the book though I would have put updated illustrations in, I found them dull and rather depressing. The story of Sara's fall into poverty and how she learns to adapt is moving and heartwarming, great story for all ages.
A very sweet classic that shows how essential kindness and imagination are to survival 💕 I really loved the story, but it was paced a little slow so it took me longer to read. the ending also felt a little abrupt, and I kept feeling sorry for Becky because she was never treated equal. However, it's still a very sweet story. this edition had lovely illustrations.
A fairytale if there ever was one. Full of whimsy, magic and moral life lessons. This book never fails to bring a tear to my eye and warm my heart. As a little girl it inspired me to be a princess too.
4.5 stars! I absolutely adored this story. I don’t usually read classics however this one has inspired me to read more of them. I will be thinking about this book for a long time.
