Laura falls quickly for her mysterious new boss, Michael Boyle, but their relationship is tested with she discovers a woman chained in his castle's basement. To save the woman and escape her lover's clutches, Laura must stop the true villain-herself.
It was heartwarming to see a Tunisian writer in English! Media often says that Tunisians don’t read, well how about that ! Going back to the book I felt in love with the writing, the detailed description, the back and forth in time. While you are reading it you will feel mixed emotions towards the main character Laura: pity, anger and hate. And the plot twist, oh man what a twist ! I read the last chapters few times cause I was confused of the shift in the characters and how I see them. Congrats to the author 👏
I took a couple of notes on the back of each chapter, the author sort of knew I was going to throw tantrums and needed a spot to vent so they left space for that purpose. Here's a small note I wrote: She did NOT just leave the police station without reporting this motherf*cker -who was chaining a woman to the wall of his basement, starved with her tongue cut off- because she had a thought about his "hot" body
Now, let's say I hate ambiguous books (which is weird for a thriller/mystery lover) and as far as ambiguity goes, this books takes the bloody cake. Nothing made sense, not one single event, everything was so out of order and the characters sucked, I hated them characters (and I mean that if I met them I'd slap them in face). They were so deranged (I love books with unhinged characters).
I made a game out of annotating the book. Gave it two colors; orange for when someone did/said something stupid, and blue for when they did something actually sane. Orange won obviously by a whole margin.
But as far as plot twists go, damn. I was NOT expecting those, I thought I was finished with the book, and all of a sudden it hit me in the face the plot twists. And I LOVED THAT SO MUCH
