I've been trying to read more poetry for a long time now. A small percentage of it is great, I get it right away, some of it is even pretty funny or moving. A lot of it is just.. washing over me, not leaving any impression at all, like this one. I partly blame this on my education, where we read very few poems, a lot of them alienating like The Waste Land. Partly it was my choice, though. I didn't take any optional courses on poetry.

Anyway, after another fairly frustrating experience of reading a book of poems and getting very little out of them, even when I slow down and only read a few pages at a time, I've decided the next time a poetry book comes up on the old TBR I'll also follow a course on how to actually read the damn things.
