Tainted Serenity

Rate this book
Isolated, their inner demons tear them apartTaken from Dankworth Institute and thrust inside the sinister doll house, I’m confronted by the very monster that once plagued my mind–or so I believed.
To survive, I must become a doll, a mere pawn in their cruel games, patiently biding my time. But they keep me isolated from the one person who ever silenced the demons in my head, and I’m left wondering if he even survived. Without him, I’m a chaotic mess, poised to tear myself apart to desperately escape the agony of his absence.
Ensnared in the doll house’s deadly games, I’m lost in a maze of uncertainty, where each twist and turn threatens to consume me. As the past’s malevolence resurfaces, the harsh reality dawns upon nothing is as it seems.
Amid the horrors they inflict upon me, I uncover harrowing secrets, all the while clinging to the hope of reuniting with him.
There’s only one thing left to do. This isn’t a fairytale. It’s time to face the truth and embrace my fate before the time runs out.

Author’s Tainted Serenity is a dark psychological thriller romance. This is book two and ends on a cliffhanger. Must be read in order. Full trigger warning inside the book.

This is book two of the tainted souls trilogy and... Omg! It begins Frederick’s POV and then jumps back into where it left off in book one.

This girl naya seriously went through it 😭 like give her a break oh my good god. the way she went from one prison, to another, and then ANOTHER !?! o could cry just thinking about it. she fights to survive on a daily and she’s so strong. there are times where she feels like she can’t go on anymore and “someone” is right there helping to piece her back together 🖤

Grey … this MAN ! he is being forced to do all of arthur’s dirty work, losing a piece of himself every time. but he does it to keep naya safe. everything he does he thinks of her. this man is so FINE. i wish there was more from his pov but i loved what i got. the things he had to go through … omg i just want to hug him. he is still possessive and filthy 🤭

the growth in their relationship is something i absolutely loved to see. they deserve the whole world 🥹 the way they kept asking about each other when they were separated in the mansion. my heart broke each time i’m not gonna lie. arthur got what he deserved. fuck him and his rules.

also the twists !? literally always shocks me. the “unknown” was exactly who i was hoping for !! and i loved to see the way this person helped them. like the little meet ups in the room so grey and naya can finally see each other 🥹 that was EVERYTHING ! the morgue though 😳 that still shocks me. i wanted to know more about how they got there. maybe even know what they went through while being under the same roof as naya and grey without even knowing. but i can sort of figure that out on my own LOL. and esther … i knew she was a backstabbing, lying cunt.

now i’m omw to beta read book three because i simply can’t wrap my head around it. i’m hoping for their hea and a conclusion. my brain hurts. i love them

“Even the most lonely and tortured people deserve love, forgiveness, and acceptance.”

Naya, my girl has gone through it holy crap. My heart bleeds for both Naya and Grey. This picks straight up from the end of book 1, and had me stressed for majority of this book. It really gives into mental health and the toll on both Naya and Grey and my heart broke for them. We also get a chapter in the POV of the villain which I honestly really enjoyed as it added to the layers of this book. There are twists throughout, a couple I sorta guessed but I was still pleasantly surprised throughout the book. The main characters in this trilogy are flawed, but it just makes them feel so raw and real which is something I really loved with this book. Their hearts and demons are pulled towards each other which was just devastatingly beautiful. As always, the setting is creepy and set in a gothic mansion with twisted intentions - which is always a fantastic setting. The growth in the relationship between Grey and Naya was a highlight of this book, and I am ready to see what book 3 has installed for these characters.

Naya and Grey are in the dollhouse but Arthur won’t let them see each other. She is left by herself and her demons, but needs a way to find Grey and get out of there. There are many secrets that she needs to figure out. Grey is in his own hell and had to take the deal with Arthur. Can they survive, find each other, and escape? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. I absolutely love Naya and Grey and their character development. Great supporting characters. This book has so many twists and turns I couldn’t put it down. Check your trigger warning. This is book two and ends on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for book three.

Tainted Serenity is the second book in Rainelyn's Tainted Souls trilogy. This is NOT a standalone; you must read Ethereally Tainted first.

She survived Grimhill Manor and Frederick Grimhill.
She endured the Dankworth Institute and Emilio Ricci.
Now Naya finds herself under the control of Arthur Grimhill in his very own house of horrors. His vast dollhouse has numerous men and women who aim to survive the daily torture and torment, but she is his favourite plaything. She can bear the pain, but she is desperate to know where Grey is, if he is even still alive.

Grey is being kept alive, but barely. Arthur knows how much they want to be together so keeping them apart, hurting them mentally in addition to physically, feeds the deranged man's soul. Grey submits to Arthur with the promise that Naya will be kept free from harm, but can he be trusted?

This book is a dark psychological thriller romance with twists and turns, secrets and lies. Rainelyn will grab you and drag you down into the depths. These morally grey characters are intense. Their lives have been filled with pain, suffering, and betrayal; their will to survive is incomparable. The connection and chemistry between Naya and Grey is potent and powerful. These two broken souls are drawn to each other, and help silence their respective inner demons.

Rainelyn's words are compelling; she paints pictures with her prose that resonate within your heart and soul. Here are some of my favourite snippets:

"She has poisoned me with her words, seduced me with her caresses, and I allowed her to devour me entirely."

"I am at last selling my soul to the devil himself. And I would fucking sell my soul away without complaint for her, my precious little doll."

"There's nothing left within me, making me a deadly weapon for the cause. Those who have nothing left are the most lethal ones, and nothing can stop them from erupting chaos to rain down. Because in the chaos is where they thrive, with nothing left to lose."

"Tainted, stained, fucking tarnished."

"Every second I am not with her is another second where I want to kill everything and everyone in my path until nothing remains but her and I, standing in the ashes of everyone else."

Trust me when I tell you there are many more highlighted passages in my copy of Tainted Serenity.

Please be sure to read the trigger warnings before opening the book as there is a great deal of content which may adversely impact your mental health. Once you know you're clear, buckle yourself in for a beautiful, tragic and heart wrenching love story.

I am eagerly awaiting the conclusion of this trilogy, desperately hoping Rainelyn will take pity on us and give Grey and Naya the HEA they deserve.

“My wings were clipped even before I had spread them out. A bird chained to an unlockable cage. A human made into a doll. A plaything.”

MESMERIZING!

This part of Naya and Grey’s heartbreaking story had me mesmerized. With the poignant and lyrical word weaving the emotional turmoil, anger, passion and pain poured off the pages and had my heart in tatters. The whole way through I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with anxiety and found myself continually holding my breath as I turned the pages. It was incredibly gut-wrenching and heartbreaking at times but with some very beautiful moments woven in between.

The incredibly eerie and creepy imagery and world building brought me right back into this dark and dreary world that Naya and Grey are stuck in. Both are thrown back into the hell they tried to escape but this hell is so much worse. Now they have been torn apart and need to fight for survival in order to get back to one another before they get killed in the process. Their relationship is put to the ultimate test as some serious head games are being played against them both.

“He was like a wild animal out there, his inner demons breaking through the surface in ways they never had before, allowing me to see another glimpse of the true him underneath the surface. He may be a monster, but he is my fucking monster, just as I am his little doll. Together, we are an unbreakable force that thrives on pain and chaos.”

Tragically and beautifully written with such poetic words that sunk themselves deeply into my heart and soul.

"She has poisoned me with her words, seduced me with her caresses, and I allowed her to devour me entirely."

The story was packed with so many little twists and turns that kept my adrenaline pumping and my stomach churning. And with the way it ends we are left wondering what the hell will happen now! I am eagerly anticipating the conclusion of this amazing series.

"There's nothing left within me, making me a deadly weapon for the cause. Those who have nothing left are the most lethal ones, and nothing can stop them from erupting chaos to rain down. Because in the chaos is where they thrive, with nothing left to lose."

𝕬𝕽𝕮 𝕽𝖊𝖛𝖎𝖊𝖜:

∆ Tainted Serenity is book 2 in in the Tainted Souls series. Book 1, aka, Ethereally Tainted ended on such a heartbreaking note that I felt empty and was crying about the ending for a long time. But reading this book made me realise that I needed to read this story in order to get my heart back and heart full of love once again. Highly recommended 🩶 Rainelyn did such an amazing work with this book! So proud of you, Rainelyn 🩵

∆ The emotions in this book were raw and heart-wrenching. The illusions were twisted and distorted. You feel like you are inside the book living the story realistically as if it's happening to you. That's how great of an author @rainelyn is. She writes in a way that makes you feel like you are a character of the book, going through the scenario with your own perspective.

∆ The distance between Naya and Grey seems so distant yet their hearts are closer to one another. The way they keep fighting for each other just shows that they love each other so much. For me, this distance is heartaching and yet so sweet because as they say that absence makes heart grow fonder, that is true in Naya and Grey's case!

∆ The secrets and the lies and the twists keep on coming and it hits me like a brick that there is so much that not even the characters know but they get to know about as the secrets are revealed bit by bit.

∆ The moment they meet each other is the moment that makes me realise (even though Ia lreafy knew) that no matter what happens they will keep each other alive and they will keep finding each other. This is what fictional lovers do for each other, they get separated but they find each other because their hearts call out to their other half.

∆ I am so happy for the way this book ended and I am so happy that they had a person other than each other that helped them and made sure that they are safe because that person cared for them! I cannot wait for the last book because I know I will be crying when the finale happens. Highly recommended 🩶

The macabre and terrifying tale of Naya and Grey continues in book 2. The unforgivable fear, pain, and mental anguish are relentless as the two lovers defy the psychopath determined to break them.

This installment of the series revolves around the harrowing escape of two lovers, Naya and Grey, from the clutches of a deranged master named Arthur. As they try to flee, Arthur foils their plans and subjects them to unspeakable horrors, slowly eroding their sanity. Naya is reduced to being one of Arthur's dolls, forced to obey his every command, or else she will be punished. Grey is beaten and threatened to make a deal with the devil, agreeing to be Arthur's cold-blooded executioner to save Naya from harm. As their sanity is challenged more than ever, they find an unexpected ally, but can they trust them?

Naya and Grey's defiance of Arthur and his evil minions is incredibly brave. Their determination to find their way back to each other is what kept me wading through the utter misery and sordidness the lovers are put through. It was like watching a train wreck. Who could they trust? They could be killed at any minute with the gruesome hide-and-seek games and not performing in the way Arthur demanded. The author does not shy away from depicting the horrors the characters face, making the story all the more disturbing.

Everything feels hopeless until a plan is hatched with another party. Putting what is left of their lives in that person's hands, escape is near and there is no doubt vengeance will be theirs. Though there is some relief, the ending is a cliffhanger with their future undetermined.

What an amazingly sick and twisted story about survival and love. I was captivated to the very end and finished the book within a few hours of starting it. The character development is incredible and the plot twists and turns are shocking and sinister. I can't wait to read the conclusion of this nightmarish story.

Thank you to Rainelyn for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

"Tainted, stained, fucking tarnished"

Omg!! What a read!! This series has chewed me up and spat me the fuck out! This is book 2 and almost continues where it left us on book 1. I didn't think this series could get anymore soul destroying but I was so wrong, it did! It broke me even more.

“Even the most lonely and tortured people deserve love, forgiveness, and acceptance.”

The shit these characters go through and are being put through is unreal.! Like how can they get through it.? It's another emotional rollercoaster ride that has twists, surprises and more.

"There's no death without me, little doll. I own your body and your heart, and I own your death as you own mine."

The characters in this story are just amazing and I've fell in love with them. I'm definitely cheering for their happy ending. It's packed with survival, secrets, hell, darkness and so much more. This book I just couldn't put it down, I was on the edge of my seats with my heart pounding so fast.

"Every second I am not with her is another second where I want to kill everything and everyone in my path until nothing remains but her and I, standing in the ashes of everyone else."

It's dark, gritty, raw and heartbreaking. That ending man. I just can't. I'm wondering what else can this pair go through. I need to know now! I can't wait for the last book. I'm eagerly waiting. If you haven't read them yet , I highly recommend that you do.

"There's nothing left within me, making me a deadly weapon for the cause. Those who have nothing left are the most lethal ones, and nothing can stop them from erupting chaos to rain down. Because in the chaos is where they thrive, with nothing left to lose."

Tainted Serenity is book 2 in the Tainted Souls trilogy and I highly recommend reading her standalone, His Doll, if you're like me and enjoy a bit of reference.

⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book picked up where Ethereally Tainted left off and I gotta say, I was enchanted with the prose and descriptions this time around.

I feel like Rainelyn has really developed her craft. Not only by her use of descriptive words but also by the development of her characters.

We learn so SO much about the villains in the story and it really propelled the book and peaked my interest at every turn of the page.

As for the main characters, I loved their flawed nature. It made them raw, real and visceral. The chemistry between them was incendiary and their moments together, unforgettable.

I also loved the insertion of elements that left the reader questioning the reality of certain situations. I feel like it gave the storyline an extra layer of depth.

Notable points:

Gothic atmosphere and creepy mansions
Mental illness
Morally grey characters
Dual POV
History steeped in folklore and tragedy

Triggers include:

Here's a few snippets I'd like to share:

"As the crickets sing somewhere in the darkness, their sounds resemble the shrill whispers of forgotten souls ensnared within a timeless purgatory."

"Such a beautiful little dolly, perfect for my collection."

"Tainted, stained, f*ing tarnished."

"Grey Madden is a dangerous poison to me - lethal even. He makes something visceral come to life within my soul, enchanting me into a warped and maniacal state of mind."

It has been 5 days since I finished Tainted Serenity, Book 2 in this series. I am still so hungover from Naya and Grey's story and I honestly am not sure what is going on in the book at this point. (I believe that is Rainelyn's goal and all will be revealed in the conclusion of the series.) I originally started this story, loving the world and characters the author created in her debut book, His Doll and needing more.

Though this story begins in Etherally Tainted, as an alternative POV from the same scene in His Doll, nothing about the plot of this book was remotely the same. It threw me off at first, because I was expecting a similar storyline as the FMCs appeared to be in a similar situation in the opening chapters of the books. It was difficult for me to get through book 1 because of the setting, but these amazing characters and the plot twists got me through it. The setting of Book 2 was NO better. The vivid imagery and descriptions were beautiful and magnificent but also creepy and eerie. I could not breathe but I also could not put this book down. I was terrified but I also had to know what was going to happen.

Though this book truly lives up to all of its expectations: romance, horror, and suspense, I believe it stands out the most because of the writing. Occasionally, I would just find myself getting lost in the author's enchantingly poetic wording. This definitely lends to the Gothic vibe of the series and I am on pins and needles waiting for the conclusion over here!

Whoa! Okay, so much here. Where should I start? This is book 2 in the Tainted Souls trilogy. Dark romance. Comparing it to the first book, this one is less physiologically intense, but with much more v!ölencë and dark elements. The cliffhanger wasn’t as brütâl (but still leaves the reader clinging to the edge). The spice was roughly the same amount (which means plenty of it!) and felt different (because of the character arcs and storyline… definitely not different in a bad way). We have more depth to the relationship between Naya and Grey.
Without comparing this one to the first book in the series, we have bl00d play, brë@th play, gr@phïc spicy scenes, intentional/forced un@l!ving, physical/physiological @büsě/tr@üma, etc. Definitely fits into the dark romance category. Twists and turns that are both expected and unexpected. It kept me on the edge of my seat!
Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book! I was expecting it to be more similar to the first book in terms of psychological intensity, but loved the different direction and feel to this one that was completely cohesive with the first book. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This is one to definitely check those TW if you need to. It’s pretty intense!

Book two picks up where book one ended.

Naya and Grey are back in the dollhouse. They’ve been separated from each other and Naya is left by herself, her demons playing havoc with her mind, but she is not going to let that control her, because she needs to find Grey and get out, however Grey is facing his own hell and has been forced to make a decision that may affect them both.

The only three things Naya and Grey are focusing on are surviving, finding each other, and getting out. The one thing that is keeping them going is their connection and their chemistry, one that is potent and powerful. Let’s hope it is enough to see them through.

Rainelyn builds the storyline that allows for character development and growth, rounding it out with supporting characters to bring it all together.

This book will grip you as you navigate the twists and turns, lies and secrets, because if dark psychological thriller romance, one that will drag you into the depths alongside morally grey characters so intense, there lives filled with the unimaginable you won’t want to put it down, because if that cliffhanger is anything to go by, we’ll have book three in our hands before we know it.

Highly recommend both the author and the book.

I received an ARC. Therefore, I am voluntarily submitting a review.

This story takes place right where book 1 has ended so please do not read as a standalone. This author is able to write and portray psychopaths and down-right evil individuals in the most poetic way🥀 This story continues with Naya and Grey’s adventure to freedom; although they are brutally separated and must rely on the others in the mansion for information of their past, present and future. This book will have you second guessing who to trust while living through the physical and emotional pain and trauma of these characters. This original dualogy has been extended to a three book series so be ready for the next installment 😈

“The villain dressed in shining armor that swept me off my feet and ripped my heart out of my chest to keep as his, only to never give it back again.”

“She looks like a true fallen angel, draped in blood and sins.”

Please read if you love: Dark Romance🖤, Psychological Thrillers, Mystery🔪, Dual POV, Secrets and Plot Twists.

I cannot get enough of this series.

Tainted Serenity is the next installment in the story of Naya, Grey, and the Dollhouse. This is a dark story with lots of unaliving, twists and turns and morally gray characters. I love how this author creates a world of horror and romance. The writing is top notch, and you are glued to the book. I read this book in one sitting. It is beyond addictive.

Naya and Grey are separated at the beginning of the story and fight their way back to each other by any means necessary. Their darkness matches perfectly, and they make each other whole. If you love dark, twisted stories, with excellent writing and a side of steam, this series is for you.

I highly recommend being aware of your triggers. This is also not a standalone. You must read Book 1 to full enjoy this installment.

Tainted Serenity picks up Grey and Nayas twisted story. Again, this is a dark read so checkout the trigger warnings BEFORE you start. This is definitely not for the faint of heart. Grey and Naya continue to live in utter h*^* and this author continues to carry her readers right down to the depths of h*^* with them. This is another incredible, intense, gritty, twisted, heartbreaking story that just keeps pulling its readers in page after page.
It seems the further into their journey we get the more heartbreaking it is and I wonder every single second just how much more they can take.

Naya and Grey are captured in the dollhouse and can’t see each other. They have to suffer a lot of torture especially Grey he’s living in his own hell. Naya however is Arthur’s (the dollhouse owner) favourite plaything but the only thing worse than his torment is not seeing grey and not knowing how he’s doing.
She need to find a way to get her and Grey out of the dollhouse. Throughout the whole book there are a lot of twists and turns. It actually starts off slowly but once you get to through the first third it gets wild. Prepare for your head to be f’d with.
This book was full of raw emotions and action. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for the third book and hopefully Naya and Grey will finally find some peace.

This is book two in the Tainted Souls trilogy. Book 1 ended on a heartbreaking note.

Naya and Grey have my whole heart, the struggles and torment they both went through while just trying to survive and be with one another was heartbreaking.

The villians in this book are more ruthless and unforgiving which made things very interesting.

There were a few twists and revelations that had me on edge. I did however suspect one in particular throughout the story and was glad to know I was right.

Can't wait to see what happens in the next book 🖤💋

Tainted Serenity by Rainelyn is book 2 in the Tainted Souls trilogy. This is the continuing saga of Grey and Naya. They thought there could be nothing worse than Grimhill. They. Were. Wrong. Now, there’s the dollhouse. Run by Arthur and Irene. They revel in pain, despair, torture, and horrific games with their ‘dolls’….and Naya has become his favorite! But, she slowly wishes for everything to end…while hoping and praying that Grey still lives….devastating, debilitating, degrading…and sooooo addictive!

I just finished this, the story the 2nd book took was not one I was expecting. Naya and Grey's story definitely takes a turn. The development of the story in general and the development of the characters was truly amazing though. This book gives me all of the dark gothic romance vibes and i am freaking here for it. I don't know what to do with myself waiting on book 3 but I know i will gobble it up. This is a must read series....and add the standalone His Doll in because they all tie with the same-ish storyline. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this series and this author. Thank you Rainelyn!

This is the second book in the series. Naya and Grey's story was a tragedy from day one. Both come from an abusive home life. The story starts in book one at the institution where the couple meets. From there, their love grows. They are then brought to the dollhouse in book 2, where they finally escape. Can't wait to read the conclusion. This book touches a lot on mental health, so please read triggers. This book is dark but good. The author does a great job with writing and showing how mental health can affect someone's life. This is a dark gothic romance.

There's a lot of things happening here, lies, secrets, & lots of twists & turns. Please keep in mind, this is a Dark book! Recommend this series & author!

Check TW before diving into this book there are a few.

It does touch on a lot of mental health and shows the affects mental health can have on people, the good, the bad, the ugly.

Naya and Grey struggle to survive while trying to be with each other all while dealing with villains that are extremely ruthless.

I read this book so quick because I needed to know what happens with Naya and Grey!

OMG THE WAY THIS BOOK GOT MY MIND RUNNING!! This book had my mind going from the time I started til the time I finished. Loved that we spent the entire time figuring out more of the mystery with Naya and her past. So much was uncovered and I’m obsessed!

What an incredibly fast paced read! If it wasn't for work and life I would have devoured this entire book in one sitting. This book brings us along the crazy ride that consumes Naya and Grey. Both seemingly normal people at a glance, but both have darker traumas that consume their nights. And the pain you feel while reading it's the one where you feel so deeply for a character and the circumstances they're in that you literally feel your heart shatter into a million pieces. All that is left is this empty void.

Rainelyn has once again created such an addictively read that I didn't want to turn away from! This author doesn't shy away from the tough, her words pour realness, and I can't get enough of her one of a kind stories. I can't wait to read what this author brings our way next.
