Grumpy Little Christmas

Rate this book
My country music career is going downhill fast, and my very public breakup isn't helping. All I want is to hide away at a cozy ski lodge this Christmas, avoid anything festive, and figure out what to do with my life. Is that so much to ask?

Aksel Lund is a modern-day Viking who should be gracing magazine covers with his smoldery frown, not running the Havenkirk Ski Lodge like a tyrant. Unbeknownst to me, this map-dot town in Idaho doesn’t have a spa or know how to be chill about Christmas. Aksel’s eight-year-old daughter drags me to every single Snowmass celebration because I don’t have the heart to tell her no.

Her grinch of a father though? He has no heart. When he’s not criticizing my music, or saving me from hurtling down the slopes, or arguing with me over my excessive luggage—it’s only five suitcases, calm down—he’s dodging my questions about why he’s a single dad and who keeps calling about his debts.

I may be a celebrity— which basically makes me a scrooge in his eyes—but I know a thing or two about hard times. And it looks like Havenkirk will be sold to some rich developer the minute the tinsel comes down. If only Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Brooding would let me help save the lodge.

And if only Aksel didn’t make my heart twist painfully in my chest and leave me panting whenever he turns that glower on me. If only I truly loved the season and could pull a Christmas miracle out of my guitar.

Turns out a miracle is what I need to get Aksel out of my heart, too.

Author’s Grumpy Little Christmas is a steamy small-town romance with low angst, high heat, and one grumpy alpha hero. If you like melt-your-marshmallows banter, gingerbread contests, snow sledding, mistletoe kisses, tender daddy-daughter moments, and lazy hot tub nights leading up to the sweetest holiday love affair between the two most unlikely people, then this is the romance for you! Grumpy Little Christmas is a complete standalone novel.

I am one smitten kitten after reading this story about a grumpalicious Viking and an adorably feisty country singer. Where can I find a grumpy Viking of my own? Asking for ME.

Give me all the grump.
Give me all the scowls and growls.
Give me all the gaudy fringe.
And all the cuteness that is an adorable 8-year old girl. Sweet Imogen was the cherry on top of this heartwarming sundae of a story. She stole my heart immediately.

This story is another well-written RomCom by one of my favorite authors. With Grumpy Little Christmas, Marika Ray made me feel all those glorious feels I need and love. The banter was utterly delightful, I found myself smiling so big and so very often.

The chemistry between Aksel and Morgana was pure fire. He was grumpy AF and she was snarky and sassy and loved to push his buttons. She loved to rile him up just to see what would happen. And boy oh boy, did things happen. *waggling my eyebrows* I loved these two together SO MUCH. To see Aksel swoon so hard over Morgana’s singing made me swoon all the harder. She melted his hard, icy exterior, and I loved seeing him get all ooey and gooey and soft over her.

Not only were Aksel and Morgana amazing and lovable, but all of the other characters in here were too! They were so fun and charming and I felt like I knew them all. The text exchanges were the best!

I couldn’t love this book any more if I tried. It gave me everything I wanted and more and had me satisfied from beginning to end. The humor was highly entertaining, the spice was very, very nice, and the love and heartwarming goodness was pure perfection.

This book was exactly what I needed—a heartfelt small-town romance with a sexy, grumpy single dad who’s the best father a little girl could ask for, and a famous country singer who thought her career was all she needed. It’s captivating, easy to read, and emotionally touching. I found myself shedding both happy and sad tears throughout the story.

The characters’ growth is one of the highlights of the book. Aksel transforms from a man with a guarded heart to someone who is open and willing to do anything for the woman he loves. Morgana evolves from a career-focused country star to a woman who discovers the true meaning of family and learns to balance her career and personal life. And then there’s Imogen—I adored that little girl! In fact, I loved all of Aksel’s family and the close-knit small-town community.

Although this is primarily a romance, it also emphasizes deeper themes, like how family isn’t just about blood ties. It beautifully illustrates that kindness is returned in kind and that true friends and family will be there for you, even when you’re too embarrassed, lost, or hesitant to ask for help.

As for the romance, it’s a reminder that love often finds you when you least expect it, and that you should embrace it when it comes. This book left me smiling and filled with warmth.

Are you looking for an adorable, yet steamy, book to get you in the mood for the holidays? Then look no further than this one by Marika Ray! Things to look for in this book:

Enemies to lovers ✔️
Forced proximity ✔️
Opposites attract (for real!) ✔️
Hilarious banter ✔️
Single dad ✔️
Christmas fun ✔️

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️
Angst level: 💔

Morgana and Aksel are being thrust into the holiday spirit when they don’t want anything to do with it. Neither Morgana nor Aksel are looking for love, but they definitely have instant attraction with each other.

This was a fast paced (thank goodness no slow burn!) and I loved every second of it. When things started to heat up between them, it got intense from there!

I also loved the incorporation of Norwegian traditions! And also Aksel’s adorable and funny daughter!

This was my first book by this author and I’m excited to delve into more of her backlist!

What a fun book about one of the oddest paired couples that just work. The Grumpy Viking and the Country Princess. Throw in his little girl that you just love to love and the family, friends, and town folk. Viking traditions and country songs what a combo.

I really didn’t like this which makes me sad because I love most Christmas books, even the bad ones. But I just didn’t vibe with this. Aksel wasn’t grumpy, he was just a dick. And Morgana wasn’t giving it back to him enough to make it okay or entertaining banter. It was just a guy being mean to a girl for no reason. Like why are you so mad she’s there? She paid a lot of money to close the resort down and you’re angry she brought 5 suitcases and she’s asking you to bring them to her room? THAT’S YOUR JOB SIR.

The time line was also the most insta-lovey thing I’ve ever read. They hated each other, they slept together, two days later they were in love and she was changing her whole life around for him and it still wasn’t enough for him. It was annoying.

The only reason I didn’t give this one star is because the smut was decent and his daughter was adorable. Also, Morgana is a mouthful, what’s wrong with just Morgan.

Grumpy Little Christmas by Marika Ray is the perfect book to read this holiday season!

Aksel Lund is a modern-day Viking that comes across as a major grinch to all that cross his path. When he isn't busy running the Havenkirk Ski Lodge with his family, he's devoting his attention to his eight-year-old daughter, Imogen. Christmas is fast approaching, and Aksel wants to make it memorable for his daughter, especially since the future of the lodge is questionable. The last thing he wants to do is to have to cater to some celebrity country singer that will be staying at the lodge.

Morgana is at a crossroads in her life. Her country music career is in a rut, she's suddenly single again, and she has no clue what to do next. Her ex booked her a birthday trip to a ski lodge in Idaho, so even though they split up, Morgana decides to still take the trip. Hiding out at the cozy lodge might be exactly what she needs to figure out her next steps.

The story that unfolds is perfectly woven together and finished off with a beautiful red bow! The characters drew me into the story immediately...Aksel with his gruff exterior and Morgana with her determination to break down the wall around him. Their chemistry was undeniable, even though they both tried to resist at times. I also loved the banter between them, especially since whatever Aksel dished out, Morgana always had a comeback that riled him up. The true star of this story is adorable little Imogen. She tugs at your heart and stays there throughout the story...all while secretly playing matchmaker for her dad. Speaking of matchmakers...I absolutely loved the text messages exchanged between the townsfolk. It was a great addition to the story...and always made me laugh.

Overall, this is just a well-written and heartwarming story...a perfect read for the holiday season! It has characters you will love, a story that will pull you in and a little girl that will steal your heart!

I would like to thank Marika Ray for allowing me the opportunity to receive an ARC of Grumpy Little Christmas. My views are my own, and are in no way influenced by anyone else.

Grumpy Little Christmas by @authormarikaray
Releases TODAY!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are a fan of hallmark movies with some spice this is the read for you!

Morgana is a country music star that is feeling burnt out. She was just dumped over social media, and needs to take a step back. She has a Christmas vacation booked in a small town to get away from it all, and try to find herself again. What she doesn’t expect to find is the Norwegian grumpy single dad who owns the hotel. From the second she meets Askel, they are at each others throats, seemingly bringing out the worst in each other constantly.
But the forced proximity means Morgana and Askel get to know each other, and maybe all their tension isn’t all negative… maybe they can find a new way to release their anger on each other…
And when Morgana learns the hotel is in trouble, can she find the inspiration she needs to try to save it?

This was my first Christmas read this year and it was a fun one!

These two are the definition of enemies to lovers. They fought every second they were together until their tension snapped. I really enjoyed the meddling family and townspeople.

The found family in this book is so well done. The way Askel’s entire family adopts Morgana and makes her feel seen and loved is so special.

This was such a fun holiday read you need to add to your TBR immediately.

Okay, I admit it. I love this grumpy Viking!

If you haven't read a Christmas themed book yet this year, choose this one!! Right now, go one-click, and come back!! Seriously, you are going to want this one.

Already a fan of this talented rom-com author, I was excited to receive an ARC of this stand-alone read.
Aksel is a grumpy guy who has kept himself focused on his daughter, his family, and his struggling ski lodge. He is uninterested in having a country singer stay at his resort (and is unprepared for his reaction to her).

Country star Morgana has had major successes professionally, but is currently struggling with an unexpected breakup. Instead of ditching the ski trip her ex had planned, (even though she doesn't ski well, or really at all), she goes to Idaho herself.

The differences between these two are big, but the attraction is bigger. Their sassy banter, funny situations, and antagonistic behaviors just feed their sizzling chemistry until it spins into a satisfying whirlwind of steamy scenes between them. So, so good!! The HEA (and bonus epiloge) was exactly what I wanted for this couple.

I am always entertained when reading this author's works, and this is just another example of what makes her one of my favorites.
I leave this read oh so happy!!

I recommend this author, this Christmas story, and all of the other books and series in her catalog of work. Obviously I leave my review voluntarily, and hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

🤩 The banter between these two—such comedic relief for my soul.
🤩 I love the grumpy/sunshine and opposites attract vibes while they simultaneously overflow with unwanted physical attraction.
🤩 Beautiful descriptions of scenic settings, festive celebrations, and frisky fondling!!! Marika Ray just does it for me—totally immersed in the setting and captivated by the story.
🤩 Ski lessons, Janna as a side character, and polar plunging—did I mention laugh-out-loud funny?
 Hello hot tub!!
🤩 Mistletoe in my steamy holiday romcom books!
🤩 There are some really tender moments with Askel’s family.
🤩 All the feels and fun but only a few tears! Steamy holiday romcom perfection.
🤩 The intimate and steamy times at the inn, all cozy and decorated with Christmas goodness and cheer!!

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 Nothing except wishing I’d taken better notes instead of binging to my little heart’s desire.

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

This book is everything I love about Christmas Hallmark movies (famous country singer helps save a family run ski lodge and falls in love) except with spice added in, making it such a fun holiday read!

Aksel is a true grump, and it really is a Christmas miracle that Morgana sees past that to the good hearted man inside! I still loved him and his Norwegian family, especially his sweet daughter. Morgana and Aksel are both around 40, so it was nice to read about characters closer to my age. Morgana wasn’t my favorite character, especially in the third act, and I really felt that she should’ve done more groveling, but otherwise I still was rooting for their HEA.

Full of small town goodness with fun holiday competitions, a lot of snow, and even a country music award show, this book was great for getting me in the Christmas spirit!

A Viking and a country singer - who knew..
Such a great all round story that I loved so much.
With loads of grumpiness, banter, sexual tension and steamy moments along the way.
Characters that you just can’t get enough of, even the secondary ones.
The running commentary along the way via text between the town folk added another level of fun to the book.
This Christmas story is so worth the read, it put a smile on my face and made me happy.
With a loving family, a town that comes together to help when needed, two middle aged people finding their Christmas cheer and a gorgeous little 8 year old girl this story was a winner in my eyes.
My advice is - read it, you’ll love it.

These 2 stubborn, strong headed, determined characters are perfect! They are both fiercely independent, which makes the banter between them so much better. Aksel’s family are strong and funny as well, without over[leering the story. The way they support each other is everything. Aksel’s daughter sure is a spitfire, like loved her.
The added texts amongst the towns people really was an added bonus.
This was such a fantastically funny, yet heartwarming story. Perfect for the upcoming holidays!
Y’all are going to LOVE this book!

Country music star Morgana Mavis knew things with her actor boyfriend weren't perfect, but even so, she never expected him to dump her through social media shortly before the holidays. In need of a break from the press surrounding their breakup, she decides to head off alone on the 10-day ski trip to Idaho they'd planned to take together. She's sure that the boutique ski lodge located in the tiny town of Snowhaven will be the perfect place for her to hide until the media storm blows over.

The lodge's owner, single dad Aksel Lund, has problems of his own; he's been hiding the resort's dire financial situation from his family for months, and if he can't come up with the funds to pay their most demanding creditors by the end of the year, they'll be forced to sell. He's determined to give his 8-year-old daughter Imogen a Christmas to remember, however, even if that means putting up with a stuck-up celebrity guest. But it turns out that Morgana's not so stuck up after all, and sparks fly between her and Aksel from the moment they meet. Could meeting Morgana be the Christmas miracle Aksel didn't know he needed?

I adored this funny, sweet, and heartwarming story. Morgana's fiery nature was a perfect match for Aksel's natural grumpiness, and I loved the way they gradually lowered their defenses and began to share their burdens and fears with each other. I particularly loved the story's focus on Morgana redefining her career on her own terms, as well as Aksel learning to accept help. The book's supporting characters were also a lot of fun, especially Aksel's adorable daughter Imogen and Morgana's assistant Janna. The secondary romance involving Janna and Aksel's best friend John was super cute; I hope they ended up together too!

I highly recommend "Grumpy Little Christmas" for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans and look forward to the author's next release.

When A Grumpy Viking meets Nashville Royalty...what can go wrong 😂💕😘

If you are looking for a fun escape this holiday, this is the book you are looking for.

If you love the feel and humor of an enemies at first sight romance between two people who are more alike than they care to admit, then this is the book you are looking for.

And, if you are looking for a contemporary and sexy read between two equally headstrong people who will not let anyone tell them what to do on the outside, but who are silently seeking a connection to their other complimentary half that this is the book for you.

Oh and what if this book also included a sexy man trying to save his family business who is trying to do it all alone while being a single dad to an adorable, precocious, and delightful little girl who steals every scene she is in, than stop scrolling because you have the book you are looking for.

I read this book in two sittings and then went back and reread my highlighted quotes because not only does this book have a story that will draw you in, characters that you will care about, but it also has all the off the chart banter and snark that I love between Askel and Morgana from the moment they first meet, to their first kiss under the mistletoe, to the suprise ending. You will cheer and smile so hard your cheeks with hurt! What more can you ask for with a Christmas story?

😤 He’s grumpy, and she’s, well, kind of grumpy too!

I really enjoyed this book! Who knew a modern-day Viking and a well-established country singer could have the chemistry Aksel and Morgana did! They were both kind of grumpy (ok, he was a lot grumpy) and didn’t want anything to do with celebrating Christmas. He was under tremendous pressure to save his family’s ski lodge, and she was so stressed out from decades of work. What was supposed to be a vacation to a quaint ski lodge for Morgana and her boyfriend turned unto a trip for her and her assistant sans boyfriend, who broke up with her over social media. Morgana wanted to relax and write some songs, but her vacation was anything but relaxing because of a certain, extremely good-looking Viking of a man. Aksel had preconceived notions about famous people, so he thought Morgana was going to be stuck up and entitled. They got off on the wrong foot right away and could not stop sparing at every turn. She showed him that she wasn’t like the celebrities he thought he knew and the two of them started canoodling and enjoying each other’s company. Neither of them was looking for a relationship and thought a holiday fling would take the edge off. Wrong! Morgana started to take her own feelings into consideration and thought maybe the slow life was calling her name. She never knew real happiness until she went to Idaho and met Mr. Grumpy Viking, his adorable daughter, and all the amazing townspeople who welcomed her with open arms. I loved all the banter between Aksel and Morgana! And I loved the meddling townspeople! And of course, Imogen, Aksel’s 8-year-old daughter. Overall, great read!

Morgana is a country singer whose love life is going downhill and whose career is at a standstill despite working harder than ever. She decides to go on the vacation her cheating ex booked them with her friend/assistant instead of him and finds herself smack in the middle of a Norwegian family Christmas. Aksel is the grumpy viking owner of the lodge where he lives with his daughter, his parents, and his aunt. They are a close knit family and he is very protective over them! After having his heart broken once by a women who chose fame over family he is very apprehensive about anyone in his family getting close to Morgana. Sparks fly everytime these two are in the same area!

This was a cute read but it did take a bit to really draw me in. I enjoyed the banter between Morgana and Aksel but some things felt forced. Overall a good holiday read!

Morgana is going through a difficult time both personally and professional so she decides to spend the holiday season at ski resort where hopefully she will be able to avoid the media frenzy that she finds herself involved in. When she meets Aksel he infuriates her as much as his daughter enchants her.

Aksel is already dealing with a lot in his life so the last thing he needs is to entertain a celebrity who brings more chaos to his life than he already has. As they spend time together the sparks of antagonism turn into sparks of a different kind, and they need to decide if their very different lifestyles can merge into a happy ever after.

Aksel and Morgana may not get off to the best start, but his daughter is determined to show them that together they can overcome anything.

New to me Author and I have to say I loved this read. Loved Aksel, Imogen and the Country Princess Morgana.

The chemistry between those two was off the charts and when it got to be too much and they couldn't hold back they exploded. I loved it. But I have to say Aksel was like a total grump even when he was happy GAH. Even his own daughter had to ignore him sometimes.

This read had a lot of heartfelt moments and some will choke you up. Like I said I loved this read. I don't want to go into detail because I don't want to spoil for other readers. Now onto the next read by this author Sugar Nookie, the title alone makes you giggle.

Oh yeah don't forget to download the bonus epilogue

Oh my god, I loved it!! I loved Morgana and Aksel, and Imogen was so feisty and sweet.

It was a bit weird reading Norwegian words mixed in with all the english, but it was also kinda cool. I’m Norwegian myself, so it was fun to see a but of that in this book. It’s not common to read about people from Norway in books. So that was cool.

Aksel made me not like him a bit at the start, as I feel he juged Morgana a bit harsh with not knowing anything about her. But I liked that she gave it right back to him and put him in his place a few times. But throughout the book I feel like the way he acted in the beginning was more of a defence mechanism than anything else. In the end it was so good to see that they all found what they were looking for in eachother.

A really, really good christmas story with heart, heath and holiday cheer!

“What was the point of the holidays unless you let loose and ate your weight in frosting?”

A very important question for sure! 😆

Small town grumpy single Dad Aksel meets his match in country superstar Morgana Mavis.

Morgana after a very public break up just wants to take a break and what better way to spend Christmas but in small town Ski
Lodge. The Owner of said ski lodge is Aksel, an Olympic Skier with a very adorable daughter Imogen.

Sparks fly between the two, though they tried to ignore it. They both have lots of baggage, way more than the five Morgana brought for her short trip! 😆 But as they spend cozy time together, (thank you to meddling family and townspeople ) getting ready for Christmas, they realize that Christmas Miracles do happen!

A fun small town Christmas romance that has swoon, spice and love!

Loved this book!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I really love this book❣️❣️❣️ Morgana was such a sweet woman who had been alone her whole life. She wanted love so badly, wanted someone to share her life with. Aksel and Imogen we're also fantastic characters. Aksel, The Viking, she called him was really something else. Always grumpy but a heck of a guy and built like a brick shithouse. Imogen, was the sweet girl who loved your daddy beyond all means and came to love Morgana too. The whole story was just great, and I loved The ending! Thank you for this great holiday book ❗❣️❣️❣️

Grumpy Little Christmas was quite enjoyable. A country singer and a Viking ski instructor and lodge owner with a little girl from Idaho with a Norwegian family. Who knew the attraction would happen. The back and forth bickering was hilarious at times and the characters in the story added to the whole picture. There were enough hot sexy scenes but what I loved most was the story. It seems some authors give you a lot of sex and little story. Morgana and Askel's story was real and little Imogen really added to the picture. I will look forward to reading more from this author.

This has pretty much all of my favorites. It's during Christmas. It has a single dad. It has a country singer. It also takes place in a small community. Checks most of my boxes. Usually grumpy men aren't my thing, but I loved that Morgana was sunshiny and that all it took to get the grump was some mistletoe, some sass, and some undercover work from the community. I loved that Imogen worked her childlike magic on Morgana and that there was some Norwegian flair in there as well. The heat was fun between the Viking and the country princess once they got their polar plunge in. Loved it!

That’s some serious Grinchyness!

I quite loved Marika Ray’s take on the grump genre! I believe this is my first book by this author and I’ll be reading more!

I loved Aksel, who is Norwegian, and a serious Grinch about pretty much everything, but his datter. It was fun learning a few words in Norwegian. This single dad to Imogen meets burnt out country sunshine in the form of Morgana and sparks and words and music fly at a nearly bankrupt ski resort.

A charming book with plenty of heat and lots of fun!

Finished the book but didn't really like it that much.
Famous country female singer, 38, from Tennessee, arrives at a small ski resort in a small town in Idaho and meets an ex Olympic medallist Norwegian, 40, single father that looks like a viking.
Haters to f*cking friends to lovers. In two weeks!!
Suuuuuuper predictable.
Him calling her 'woman' and giving orders, being more than grumpy all day long was a no no from me.

A Viking Christmas

Axsel is a grumpy, sexy Viking. He instantly irritates the crap out of Morgana, a country music princess on vacation after a big break-up. They both get more happiness from their verbal sparring than they'd like to admit. It makes for a big explosion when they finally connect.

Loved this book!! It's like a spicy Hallmark movie.

The plot of this book feels like it could be the plot of one of those cheesy Christmas movies, and I am so here for it. I think this one has to be one of my favorite Christmas reads so far this year. It is a bit over the top plot-wise, but I feel like holiday books can get away with it, and this book definitely delivered on Christmas cheer and festivities. This book is about a country singer, Morgana, who ends up staying at a family owned ski lodge by herself after a very public breakup with her boyfriend. Aksel is a single father who owns the ski lodge, which isn't doing too well financially, and Aksel could potentially lose the ski lodge if he doesn't come up with funds soon. It definitely has a super cheesy plot and a bit predictable at points, but I loved the grumpy/sunshine dynamic between Morgana and Aksel. It was such a fun read and definitely one of my top holiday reads this year.
