As a budding poet and lyricist, Aine is on her way to an audition one fateful afternoon. Absentmindedly stepping into the street, she barely avoids getting struck by an oncoming vehicle. Not only is the cute teenager lucky to be alive, but her brush with death turns out to be a date with destiny. The driver of the car just happens to be Sakuya, the charismatic and fabulously handsome lead singer for a band called Lucifer. In short order, Sakuya and his crew compose a song using AineÅfs lyrics. The tune proves popular with the bandÅfs fans and Sakuya decides he wants a relationship, both professional and personal, with Aine. ThereÅfs only one small requirement: The lyrics Aine writes must be erotically charged. And guess what? Sakuya fully intends to introduce the young and inexperienced girl into the world of sensual delights. Does Sakuya actually care for Aine, or is she just another sexual conquest for him? Will Aine fulfill her dreams and become a professional lyricist, or has she simply sold her soul to Lucifer?
新條まゆ in Japanese Mayu Shinjo debuted in 1994 in Shogakukan's Shōjo Comic with "Anata no Iro ni Somaritai". She continued writing for Shogakukan until 2007, with her works appearing in both Shōjo Comic and their other magazine Cheese!. She left the company to go freelance citing a dispute over working conditions and abusive treatment by her editor.
I REALLY-REALLY liked Sensual Phrase, I would even give it 4 stars, if only the art in some places wasn't like ridiculous, unpropotional and mixed. Buuuut, what can I say, I LOVED the story, the characters... Especially Sakuya...Sakuya!!!! I literally fell inlove with him. He's a real man, I wish, I would meet someone like him (though, minus his perverted nature :P) Some things he said to Aine, really filled my stomach with buterflies...So cute and romantic!!!! The pictures, where he hugs and kisses Aine were so sweet, it took me a week to finish manga, I just kept staring at some pictures. Mayu Shinjo, really did her jog this time, the costumes fo the Lucifer boys were gorgeous adn hot. And again about Sakuya. He's the best character not only mentally, but also phisicaly I mean drawn. Shinjo-san really knows how to draw emotions in the eyes of her characters, I mean, I could really see in Sakuya's eyes, that he wouls destroy anyone who dared to touch Aine. And when he came to kill that bastard Kaito, he was sooo gorgeos, that Kaito must have kneeled and begged him to be killed by his hand!!! When he cut his wrist I was all over the floor in the flood of my tears!! I want to meet someone like him!!!!
I hadn't realised there was a follow-up to Kaikan Phrase, but when I found out this existed, I decided to read it out of curiosity. The first two stories are sequels to Kaikan Phrase. Both are total fluff with lots of sex. XD I don't really remember much of the plot of Kaikan Phrase after all these years, and I certainly didn't remember any of the other characters (not that they show up much). In fact, I didn't even remember Aine and Sakuya's names, and they're the main couple.. ^_^;; Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone but diehard KP fans.
There were also two unrelated stories. The first was pretty horrible. The plot was excruciatingly stupid, involving a guy who dresses kind of nerdily at school for reasons that are not really clear, despite him "explaining" them. When he and the girl go out on a date, he sexually assaults her. Ooh, romantic. Bleh.
The third story was okay. Mainly it seemed a lot better compared to the crappy one that came before it. A girl is supposed to go on a trip with her two girlfriends and three guys, but the girls cancel at the last minute because they both get boyfriends. So she ends up going on the trip with just these three total strangers and of course falls in love with one of them.
I've recently been looking through my blog and I found that I had yet to review Mayu Shinjo's works. So I thought why not to start in a kind of chronological order; with her longest and most famous works - Sensual Phrase.
I have read this particular work at least 3 times, and nevertheless, I am always intrigued and sucked in the story as if I was reading for the first time. In the beginning, I was thinking of doing several reviews for this one, but then somehow ended up only doing one. And truth be told, I even lost the raw of the review, so right now I am writing whatever I remember from it. I didn't really have time to reread it again and write another review.
The story is fantastic and the characters are amazing. If you are up for a shobiz story, this is from where you should start. Get to know Sakuya and Aine, and get to know the most popular band in history - Lucifer. Are you ready to find out if the showbiz is just fame? or are you ready to dig deaper and find out what it mean to be famous? Lucifer will give you an insight to everything!
So how does everything start? Imagine, being a high-schooler (I'm in university so...) and writing sensual lyrics. And now imagine this, you were nearly run over by a car, and the person who steps out of it is a vocalist of a super popular band. All ends well, but then try to imagine this: your song is sang by that popular band and especially without your concent! And now you are asked to be a song writer. Awesome? yup, but that's not all, you'll have to read the story to get a chance to meet Aine and Sakuya. you will be having fun, but at the same time you will see that the story has many life issues. You won't be able to stop reading once you start!
Enjoy it to your fullest and don't forget to share your thoughts below. Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos. Don't miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!
This was a nice ending to the series and fitting over all. I will warn people that since this was released directly to a manga volume, it's more graphic than the previous chapters and volumes. You don't see the actual acts of penetration, but they're less hidden than in other chapters. Just a warning for people who might have been ok with the stuff in other chapters but might balk at slightly more graphic material. (Like parents who are ok with buying the previous volumes but don't want anything more graphic. I do know people who are like this, so I thought I'd mention it.)
This has actually been a nice trip down memory lane, re-reading these. It's a fast read once you have them all collected, but worth the time to do so.
Ame este extra *-* Lo ame, me alegro bastante el saber como era la vida de sakuya, me dio a entender lo que pasaba por su cabeza antes de que ocurriera lo del primer tomo, gracias esto supe porque fue Aine la elegida XD! This is a far as I get in this series so this rating is 4 the whole series.
If I recall correctly, this does have some hot scenes are not so consensually. Goes through a lot of drama, hot scenes; and at the end they get to reappear at Love Celeb as a long time friend, haha they're both equals. Good story.
I was slightly confused with how all of this came to an end. It was a whirlwind of events, that ended in a conclusion that I felt would have resolved in anyway without said events. It felt overly dramatized. Oh well, at least Aine got to wear a beautiful dress in the end.
This volume was more of a "where are they now?" story, meant to tie up any loose ends. It was short, but cute. My only real complaint about the series was that Santa was never given any real back story, as compared to Asturo or Yuki. We even got to see a bit of how Towa grew up, at one point.
The epic final to Sensual Phrase was definitely epic. Compared to Love Celeb I feel this series is more mature (not just in mature content - that's still the same, but in light of the story between Aine and Sakuya)
I'm always disappointed by the final installment of Aine & Sakuya in this volume. Changing artists this late in a series is NEVER a good idea. However, the short stories at the end of the book are so much fun. I wish there were more of these!
I enjoyed reading this manga. Yes, it has very mature content and not definitely for young ones but the love story was so cute. And imagine yourself meeting a charismatic and fabulously handsome lead singer of a band.
