Always on the lookout for books for our youth group and I was excited to read this, as I specifically liked the title of the book!
There are seven short chapters each beginning with R: relevant, real, reflection, rescuer revolutionary, relationship and reset.
Each one uses teen friendly language and up to date examples. There are also quotes from some more famous people who describe themselves as Christians. I did wonder if having such current examples may date the book in the future, but I think for now it is good to have those people listed. Each chapter ends with some questions to reflect on, and a QR code to go and watch a video overview.
It appears that the videos were produced a few years ago and the book is a kind of overview of that video series.
This makes it very attractive for youth leaders who are looking for a short series to run in their group - the videos are just five minutes each and include the questions that are listed at the end of each chapter.
It's my plan to use the videos for a short series in our youth group and then give them the book at the end of the series. This means they'll have access back to the videos whenever they want to revisit them!
Used this book as a basis of our talks for a youth group made up of mostly unchurched 11-14 year olds. We didn’t end up using the videos or discussion questions but the chapters were a good framework for talks. Some of the content unfortunately already feels dated (e.g. our youth didn’t really know who Bear Grylls was) but I think that is the nature of youth work where trends come and go quickly!
It was a very thought provoking book, aimed more at non-christians or new christians so some of it was of less use to me but overall it was very good. I would recommend it for anyone curious about faith or to give to any of your non christian friends if they have questions.
Excellent read gave great insight onto Jesus and who he was would definitely recommend to someone who’s curious and he definitely helped me in my understanding
