Collects Radiant Black #28 A and B, #29 A and B, and #30 A and B.
I'm honestly glad the war is over. Because fuck man, this was becoming a drag to read.
This big war, could be awesome on paper, but multiple realities, too many characters, and disregarding the grounded and more emotional beats we got in early volumes really hurt this overall. It's not to say it's the worst thing I ever read, but such a annoying arc, that went way too long. If you look at my ratings, the first few volumes of this series are great. But this whole big war has been a mistake IMO. But luckily it looks like we're getting back to normal style storytelling next arc. Thank god.
Radiant Black is awesome. Literally couldn’t stop reading with these last three volumes. I love the experimental storytelling and paneling and everything just feels so fresh. Also the artstyle is great and works perfectly with the aforementioned experiments. The different Radiants all have unique abilities which makes for fun fights. I also like the wider cast of heroes in the massive verse and am excited to read some of their books. Especially Rogue Sun.
I really loved the part where there were two RB and how they fought together and everything. Also the decision leading to two different timelines and ending up in one again was executed perfectly.
I am really excited were this will go in the future. The first Arc was really great.
Continues to innovate and make structural and creative decisions that keep me on my toes. Heartfelt and smart. Higgins is on another level with Radiant Black that the rest of the Massive-Verse can't quite keep pace with. Probably the best ongoing comic right now, especially when looking at how consistent it's been for this long.
Somehow, I read this whole Radiant Black series without ever really understanding what the heck was going on. As far as I can tell, I missed all the secondary series and event issues and (perhaps?) that's where the connective tissues are. Still, the main series kept the pace fast, the characters engaging, and the plot justtt intriguing enough to pull me through.
And this final volume is a pretty decent conclusion, even as it's a head-scratcher. The previous volume saw the Radiant Black split between timelines, one in which Nathan was the wielder and one with Marshall. Infinite Earths brings that story to a close as the dark timeline gets realll dark and the less-dark timeline merges everything into a happy ending. All those secondary heroes who I'm unfamiliar with have a fun team-up issue. In the end, the Earth is saved (from what or who? I don't really know) and I guess the Radiants are still around to be used for further adventures (that I probably won't be taking part in).
What an incredible ending to this storyline! The interplay of multiple timelines featuring Marshall and Nathan was executed brilliantly, adding a fresh dynamic while seamlessly integrating other Massive-Verse characters into this high-stakes, world-ending event.
The writing is top-tier, pulling you deep into the narrative with its compelling twists and emotional depth. The artwork is equally spectacular, especially in the way it transitions between the "digital" world and the reality of our main characters—visually stunning and narratively impactful.
With the events of Catalyst opening so many possible directions for the story, I'm eager to see where it goes next. Personally, I would have loved to see the alternate timelines continue playing a larger role, particularly in exploring how both Nathan and an evil Marshall would react to the unfolding chaos.
Overall, this was an outstanding read that delivers on every front. Highly recommended!
Previously, I reviewed the first half of the Catalyst War and was like, yeah, this is fine. Having now read the whole thing in its entirety, I am much, much more impressed.
At first the dueling narratives between the main book and the .5 issues seemed entirely incidental. What was the point, I wondered, in having two sides of the same war? Surely only one of them would prove to be 'right' going forward. And yes, that's true - but it turns out that the .5 issues are a very clever narrative device that writer Kyle Higgins uses to bring the war to an unexpected close, and along the way explores the differences between Marshall and Nathan, their approaches to being Radiant Black, and how quickly things can go wrong for them both.
It's very clever, very ambitious, and could have easily gone wrong, but instead proved to be a home run for me.
Radiant Black Volume 6!! The end of the first big Radiant Black Era!! A delightful end!
I started reading Radiant Black 2 years ago, and I’m thrilled to have followed along the journey that all the books have been building up towards. It’s been thrilling and this series has been such an incredible inspiration for me!
Overall, I’m glad to say it sticks the landing! Volume 6, like all volumes, is not without flaws, but it makes up for it!! As has become standard, the art is gorgeous, and the story is gripping! In my opinion, world-ending stakes always dampen the emotional character stakes of the story, and I think while this book does suffer slightly for it, i believe it still pulls through in a way other stories that attempt this fail. There’s still an emotional character-driven backbone to the story, which kept it going strong.
In my review for Volume 5, I mentioned hoping that while the double timeline narrative was confusing at times, that I hoped it would have an interesting outcome/reason to exist in the first place. I believe that was the case! Again, specially in the second half of the volume, I started to get really confused with the timelines, BUT it surprisingly did amount to an interesting plot device and the way they mixed and picked the timeline to follow through with was great imo!
I also want to take a moment to talk about Supermassive 2024, which is packaged inside this volume. I LOVED IT! For sure my favorite Supermassive so far!! It felt the most cinematic and exciting, like and Avengers movie! The art was absolutely phenomenal, I loved the way it tied into the plot of Radiant Black and the Catalyst War, and we had the most interesting team dynamics and banter! Absolutely loved this Supermassive!
Overall, while it sometimes does get confusing and lost with the huge scope and world-ending threat, The Catalyst War and Radiant Black Volume 6 live up to the hype that has been building for years throughout all their books. Huge shoutout to the team that make these books, yall are my idols!!
I’m so excited to see what the new era of the massive verse entails, and what new massive storyline it all builds up to next. I’m so happy i picked this book up!

I pr'lly need to go back and adjust my rating for book 5, since it all came together so nicely in book 6. But maybe I won't, since it was still kinda choppy. That said, book 6 was great, a true team effort from everyone involved and really, just how you do a TEAM-UP. Definitely hoping that the other members of the team, Pink, Red, Dead Lucky, etc, get some more tales, because they deserve them. Yes, I know this is ultimately Nathan and Marshall's tale, and they do a great job of capping it off and leading a to... Wherever it is that Radiant Black is going next. I'll be there for it.
I definitely enjoyed this one a lot more than the last. I think I understand more about catalyst and existence also the fights themselves were much better. I might reread the whole catalyst war together again and i might enjoy it even more. Wendell definitely did something more timey wimey foreshadowing that i might understand more on a second read.
The giant war *does* outstay it's welcome, but I do like the thesis statement of this volume: Nobody ever really changes, not when they isolate themselves. But allowing others into your life and showing vulnerability and can everyone grow into the best version of themselves.
Avengers-level threat? Avengers-level TEAM-UP? Giant robots fighting? Big dramatic sacrifices? Alien armies? Ridiculous power-ups? I mean..... THIS is what nerd stuff is for isn't it?
It's rare for a conclusion to stick the landing and this actually managed it. It manages to tie the split timelines back into a single narative and ends with a classic giant showdown for the fate of the world. The way the timelines concluded made sense with how the characters would act, it's quite clear that while Marshal is the more classically heroic of the two options, he's also much more emotionally volatile than Nathan, for example.
If I was to offer critisisms: the exact scope of a particular development wasn't really shown, there was a fight that took place off panel that I would have been interested to see and I found the shift in art style in the middle to be a bit jarring. But these are minor issues and don't detract from the story, whcih is the main thing I'm scoring here.
Overall, a satisfying ending to a fun story, even if the final volume's release was delayed so much I lost track. But now that it's all out, I'd recommend giving it a look.
