John Wycliffe was someone who wanted everyone to have access to the Bible, not just the rich, powerful and well–educated. He was a Catholic priest who wasn’t happy with the way things were being done in the Church, and is considered an important forerunner of the English Reformation. David Luckman brings this giant of church history to life in this gripping addition to the Trail Blazer series.
John Wycliffe: According to the Word by David Luckman was a great look into church history and the man that paved the way for the Reformation. He loved God's Word and was intent about only preaching the Scriptures. He wanted to get God's Word into everyone's hands and have it in English and was disgusted by the Roman Catholic churches abuses. He was a dissident within the Catholic priesthood and He bravely stood for truth. This was a man I was farmiliar with in name only. I knew vaguely what he was all about, but this book really informed me of a lot and made me realize how little I really knew of him. I got a little lost with some of the history at times and unfamiliar names, but I loved reading about his staunch stance against Rome and his unwavering from the truth of the Bible. These books are great for learning church history on your own or with your kids! It would make a great read aloud for ages 8-9 or so and I love the discussion questions at the end of the book to discuss with your children. I look forward to reading these with my children when they are older!
