*I requested an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I honestly requested this because the premise sounded so intriguing and the cover was pretty as well so I was very excited to see how it will go. I also did not know that this was a manga but I actually did not mind it as it increased my level on enjoyment, the art was fine...nothing extra ordinary but still visually pleasing. I liked how it started off with the app and following the whole desire part but I honestly think for such a short volume, that part of the novel took a portion of it's time and the build up towards the ending failed because of that. The main plot took too ling to start and by the time I was hooked in it, the volume had ended.
The characters, I could see myself liking them a lot more if it was LONGER but even with its length, I found myself liking their interactions a lot and the dialogues were actually well done as well. It literally had everything it needed to be a strong manga but it failed with it's length and execution.
The romance was not there or even if it was, I would not call it that....It was all lust through and through. I actually really liked the concept of it and I honestly could have seen it developing and morphing into something so enjoyable but that did not happen and I do not think we would get another volume because the story wrapped itself but the end.
Reading this review might make you think that I did no enjoy this book but I actually did have a good time with it, I just thought that it had so much potential and could have easily been longer, if it was it would have been such a strong book because it had everything that a hooking sexy plot requires.
Maybe, I would have liked this a lot more if I went into this knowing it was a short completed story. If you want a palate cleanser or a short fun and sexy read, I would honestly recommend this to you because it delivers on that!

I honestly really enjoyed the premise of this graphic novel. The whole idea was so entertaining to read about. The style and illustration of this graphic novel were honestly so stunning.

An entertaining erotic graphic novel with a passing interest in making a statement about the adverse effects of technology on interpersonal relationships. However, it’s clear that the author was more interested in the hornier, shock worthy panels than the plot and its thematic concerns. Still enjoyable, loved the art style and the eroticism was fantastic. Truly the art was very evocative and compelling, I would definitely read more from this artist.

I think I’m obsessed with the intense premise of Crave. We have an erotica comic, volumes 1-6, where an app developed at a boarding school tells the students their chances of hooking up with the classmates they’re interested in and tells them different things to do to get that classmate’s attention. Several students want to fight back against the app’s control over the school, and they discover how it was created and how it might be turned off.
The storyline is interesting! Sure, we’ve seen tech or apps taking control before, but I’ve never read a story where the app causes mass hookups and lots of spice that leads to violence.
The artwork is also well done and perfectly fits the story's tone. It didn’t need to be fancy or ‘next-gen,’ and I appreciate that it’s in color. I’m not a fan of black-and-white comics.
I highly recommend Crave for spice and erotica lovers, and since each volume is short, save yourself some frustration and get the omnibus.

I'm obsessed, I asked for the arc quite randomly, I just saw the cover today and thought "why not?" and it turned out to be a very good decision, because I devoured this comic in one sitting. The art was unique and beautiful, the story had great meaning, and some of the illustrations made me blush. It definitely won’t be my last graphic novel by this author.

So I wouldn’t say this is not enjoyable, but you have to squint to find the plot under all the raunchy sex scenes. I’m all for the sexiness and darker parts to it, but some of it took away from the story in my opinion. Crave’s characters are very one note, but I still found myself liking a few of them. Sofia, Albert and Julie are the best of the lot!
This is a quicker read, but even then I felt it lacked the depth it needed and wrapped up so quickly that I needed to go back and make sure I understood it properly. The way this is marketed is on point, yet I still feel a little let down.

i'm constantly on the lookout for black mirror-esqe cautionary technology tales and i've had the long-held believe that apps, even beyond the scope of their intended purpose and reported data-caching, can be used in insidious ways when in the hands of the right (or wrong) people.
crave is a story like that - on campus, an app called crave is gaining in popularity amongst the students. touted as a hook-up app, you assume at first that it's little more than a glorified version of tinder. that's until you realize that something is going off in the walls of this school. maybe getting off is more operative a description - people are hooking up in hallways, clothes are getting unbuttoned, everyone seems like they're fiending for something or someone.
post-breakup, david downloads the app and begins a flirtatious photo exchange with alexandra, a girl from his past. but his ex isn't happy that they broke-up. and maybe crave can help her find her happy ending too, even if it means wanting someone dead.
super compelling, hard to put down. finished it with MUCH haste and can't wait to read more from the series.
the only downfall for me was that there were inevitable consent issues (you could probably expect this with an app like that) but it kinda bugs me that the one instance it was discussed/explored was within a situation with two women. i get it, queer sexual violence exists, but there wasn't enough nuance/thought added to that arc of the story for me and it bothered me that no queer people showed up throughout the rest of the read.

This graphic novel series is set at a university where suddenly an app called “crave” appears on everyone’s cell phones. The app claims to be able to give instructions for each user to fulfill their fantasies. At first, mostly everyone is happy to be hooking up with their crushes. When sinister things begin unfolding, a small group of friends must band together to get to the bottom of this mysterious app and it’s dark motives. I thought the art was great and the story kept me reading. Would recommend those looking for a quick read with mature themes/visuals.

I'm actually surprised that I liked this!
While I'm not a huge fan of the art, and the story took a while to get past the shock value sex scenes, it ended up being an interesting storyline about an app gone rogue at a small university.
I know part of the focus is on the Crave app "letting" people fulfill their wildest sexual fantasies, but I wanted more of the actual how and why surrounding the Crave app's existence, plus more about the people who really knew what was going on.
I did like the main characters and how messy they all were, yet they could set aside their messiness/immaturity and figure out how to fix the situation. The duality of college students lol
This is a quick read and fans of Black Mirror will definitely like this.

Boy was I surprised about this steamy graphic novel!
First of all, I'm a sucker for an original art style and I liked the tone it set. The rough sketch'iness of it all added to the feeling of the story, which felt part mystery, part thriller, part speculative. I think it's actually better going in without knowing too much about the plot and just immersing yourself in this ride.
Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a new age graphic novel about relationships, the impending technology of apps/social media and AI rolled into one.

I could not stop turning the pages with this read. The artwork was phenomenal, and the plot was suspenseful and intriguing throughout. This work of art captured lust, obsession, and craving masterfully. I can’t wait for what she writes next!

A fairly interesting mini-series, Crave flirts with dystopic social criticism in the shape of an overreaching "hook-up" app being tested in a privileged school, while dabbling in some semi erotic artwork and situations. It's an interesting idea, and it's definitely worth a look, but it is all a little too threadbare for my tastes.
The dystopian elements -- abuse of privacy data, mass surveillance, low level AI run amok, the ugliness of human nature, etc. -- are plausible, but the characters who move through Maria Llovet's dystopian school aren't given enough room to breathe and become compelling. At six chapters (or issues, since this was published as a comic book series rather than a graphic novel), Llovet didn't have much space to explore her characters, so Crave begins in media res. The app is up and running and shit is already hitting the fan, and our characters are right in the middle of it all. Thus, it is very difficult to empathize with them, or to really have a grasp of who they are and what they want unless they type their desire into the CRAVE system and wait for instructions.
This also has a significant impact on the erotic portion of the tale. Without being able to connect with the characters, their mildly erotic couplings are equally difficult to care about. Yet the way Llovet delivers these couplings is one of the stand-out elements of Crave. She doesn't shy away from oral sex, bodily fluids or nudity, but none of these elements are delivered in a way that feels unnatural or gratuitous. They are key components of her story, and they are crafted with frankness and realism. Unfortunately, the excellence of these scenes makes my failure to connect with her characters even more disappointing.
Maria Llovet is a talent, there is no denying that. Her visuals are gorgeous, and she has a lot to say. I plan on following her on her journey; I just hope, in the future, she gets the time and space to really let her characters grow and breathe

I actually really liked this! The art has a very Saga comic vibe to it which I liked a lot. I really liked the concept of the plot, with a dating app that takes things a little to far. It's a quick read, it has some spiciness in it, with great characters! Overall really happy I picked this up!

literally screaming and hollering that i got this arc because hello??? this concept?? amazing. thank you! i love love LOVE it.
it’s giving black mirror and that alone is five stars, but the art style has a vintage with a touch of modern vibe (i can’t explain it ok it just looks like a classic comic but made for today. i love it), lgbtq rep, sex positive, chaotic, a lil bit of a nail biter, ugh! yes!

Crave brings together issues #1-#6 of artist and writer Maria Llovet’s series of the same title, a work of speculative fiction exploring the not-so-distant prospect of AI dating apps.
But Crave, which asks you what you crave and promises to “make it happen”, is more than a dating app. And what does happen when an entire cohort of horny students have access to an app whose entire purpose is to make their darkest desires a reality? Whose AI programming allows it back-end access to their school’s systems? An app without the safety filters and regulation that make the surface Internet usable?
The answers to these questions get pretty dark, so I’d recommend looking up trigger warnings (sexual content & representations of suicide/suicidal ideation being the major ones). However, the collected-issue format means that no unpleasant image ever overstays its welcome. Crave is fast-paced and all the more solid for it, and Llovet’s art is so lush, she renders even the horrifying beautiful. Like a car crash, you’ll find yourself unable to look away.

First of all the covers are absolutely gorgeous for each of the 6 issues in this collection (it’s what made me notice the title initially) and the art for the comic throughout are great as well.
The premise for this book though is what drew me in, a social media app that will give you what you crave. It’s like reading a black mirror episode with hints of Squid Game scattered throughout as well.
I think the social commentary in the book is spot on and I loved how ironic it was with during the social media lecture when the college was becoming obsessed with crave with good foreshadowing.
For a short collection it manages to tackle quite a few issues church I liked but I think it is also a downside as it was so short that none of the characters were really fleshed out. You didn’t really get a chance to connect with them at all and had to take everything at face value.

well this was an interesting read! marketed as a mix of "black mirror" and "eyes wide shut", this was a very kinky graphic novel. it did feel a bit like those, black mirror especially, but i was also getting some "gossip girl" vibes. i knew what i was getting myself into, but DAMN! i think there was more sex than plot at times. i would have loved to see a little more detail and scenes outside of the sex, because the "conclusion" felt rushed and underdeveloped. nevertheless, i had a fun time reading it. it's quite fast-paced and every single character is going through literal nightmare scenarios. i definitely would continue reading if the author plans to publish additional volumes but i do think there should be more content in the already existing volumes.

well this was an interesting read! marketed as a mix of "black mirror" and "eyes wide shut", this was a very kinky graphic novel. it did feel a bit like those, black mirror especially, but i was also getting some "gossip girl" vibes. i knew what i was getting myself into, but DAMN! i think there was more sex than plot at times. i would have loved to see a little more detail and scenes outside of the sex, because the "conclusion" felt rushed and underdeveloped. nevertheless, i had a fun time reading it. it's quite fast-paced and every single character is going through literal nightmare scenarios. i definitely would continue reading if the author plans to publish additional volumes but i do think there should be more content in the already existing volumes.

I requested this graphic novel Crave from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
The story is as follows, an app called Crave is sweeping this singular Elite University which has students creating racier and racier situations in order to have their ultimate wish come true. You'll see heartbreaks, lots of sexual situations and violence of most kinds that can be shocking and alarming, will the student body survive this app or their cravings cause a dangerous end for the student body?
I decided to give this book a chance because the premise sounded like it could be interesting and I thought the art was beautiful. The other draw was the comparison to black mirror and it does not disappoint in that respect. The story revolves around a group of friends who are on the outside of the app until they are thrust into their desires, especially the lead David who gets another swing at his dream girl due to the app's insistence that he try and make things work out with her...but this can only happen after he dumps his longtime girlfriend and has some very sexual and graphic moments with the girl. The book is definitely an erotica but not as erotic as something like sex criminals or Saga which has equal parts male and female sexual organs on display within the pages. I for a minute thought this was in a high school and found myself weirded out by the sexual nature but still fully invested into the story and plot but thankfully they are college students so it's not as weird as before. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it but I will say i kind of want more from this group. The story feels like it resolves itself a bit too early for me and the escalation from harmless cravings to harmful cravings felt less gradual than I would have liked, not on the author though, but because they have a page restriction of course things moved at a much faster pace. I did enjoy the storytelling and the art work was sublime, I think the characters had great moments where they had to understand the severity of the situation my only problem is that things progressed so quickly I wanted to plant my feet and enjoy the story for a bit longer.
All in all its a lovely ride albeit short but very much a lovely experience to have. I think the artwork is gorgeous and hope to see a part 2 happen very soon. I appreciate a good erotica and this felt like it was great at that but also story and look. 4/5 because it felt like the story was rushed.

This was initially a cover draw for me but when I read the blurb my interest peaked even more.
I loved the artwork in this comic first and foremost, each piece helped set the scene perfectly.
The actually storyline was quite good, and should serve as a reminder for folks to read what they’re agreeing to when it comes to their data on apps.
The app that was developed in this comic was wild, it completely wigged me out, especially as a person who is freaked out by advanced technology like artificial intelligence.
I really like the characters, and I hope there is more so we can see more of them.
Overall it was a quick read with captivating artwork, interesting characters, eerie vibes and some heavy topics such as self harm and bodily harm to others.

The crave app promises that it can help students satisfy any of their cravings, from sexual desires, to violent ones. However, this leads to chaos as people feel emboldened to do stupid reckless things just because an app told them to.
I do think this has some interesting commentary about how people are often eager to follow orders without thinking for themselves even if they know it could be dangerous.
With that being said, I couldn’t find any references as to whether this takes place in high school or college. I’m choosing to believe it’s college because some of the students live in dorms (though I know some private high schools have dorms as well); however, with the amount of sexual content in this book I would have preferred more explicit confirmation that the characters are adults.

This is REMARKABLE! Just putting that out there immediately.
A new app is taking the kids by storm. I say kids but they are college age. What does the app do you may ask? Well, it tells you how to get the person or thing you crave the most. Want old Rebecca in science lab? Tell the app and BAM! “Random” happenstances to them will lead you to your reward. But, watch out, not everyone/thing is compatible. Jealousy can rear its ugly head before you know it and set off a different chain of events.
I was so impressed by this! The authors/illustrators through you into the mix without a bunch of background and you learn as they do (which I absolutely adore). Bonus: there are some steamy ass sex scenes depicted. Spiiiiicy. And a lot of them.
You can read them individually now or wait for the whole series to come out in October. This is one of the best graphic novels I have ever read.

Crave is a graphic novel/comic collection about a phone app appearing on college students phones and helps them get what they want. Whether it be hook up with someone they have a crush on or break up two people, this app makes the seemingly impossible possible.
The plot is interesting, the graphics are good but if this collection were doubled in size the character development could have been stronger. Overall, it is solid work.

I absolutely love the concept of this graphic novel, I feel like it opens up such an important discourse especially with how digitized our world is. This comic also lends itself to a bit more contemplation with dating and how instant society is and the dangers within that. This book starts out with this new app that can make anything that you want happen. Which honestly doesn’t seem that far off because it interlinks with all of your socials and then basses its calculations off of its learner data and then either tells you it can’t make it happen or gives you some insight on how to get your dreams. I feel like this comic would be fantastic as a movie or screen adaptation especially with how stunning the visuals are. I don’t know if this comic is shortened but we don’t really get invested into the characters and their storylines feel extremely rushed and flat, if we cared a little more about the characters I could see myself loving this comic even more. The graphic nature of this comic is also interesting, like I didn’t mind it but I feel like graphic content in this context should be beneficial to they story progression and ultimately move things forward but for this comic it just seemed like a grab factor like “look at this they’re all hot and doing kinky things.” And it didn’t help the story in my opinion. Overall this comic is a solid 2.5 maybe 3 if the dialog was a bit more interesting and we were able to invest more into our characters, the explicit scenes were more meaningful and we got to see more character development. But overall and extremely fun and quick read and I will tune in to see whatever happens with this comic series for sure

Not as dystopian as I hoped it would be. Needed the story behind the creation of the app to be a bit crazier I think. Enjoyed the illustration style, gave me ideas for how I could illustrate a graphic novel someday :))

I really was not a fan of this book. I would say that the story didn't have much of a plot, and the characters were all deeply unlikable. I never learned why people were listening to this app or why they didn't just stop. It was a confusing plot that made little to no sense. I DNF'd around 40% of the way through after trying to finish it, but I just couldn't put up with it anymore.

Absolutely loved the premise of Crave, a smartphone app that could - physically - get you who you wanted. The art style added to the adult nature of the story, as did the BDSM-positive scenes. I felt the narrative was original - would have absolutely loved a longer, more fleshed out version of this to read, as naturally there was some character backstory missing (with it being a graphic novel/comic).

Crave is an erotica thriller graphic novel about an app called Crave that randomly ends up on university students' cell phones one day. You tell the app your desires, and it "helps" you get them. People really like it at first, but then things go south in a hurry. It's up to our main characters to find out who is behind it and how to stop the app before too much chaos ensues.
Ok, so this is a super quick read. The plot is very straightforward. I found the characters to be very one-dimensional. The art was good, but not great. If you're looking for something quick and spicy that you can knock out in an hour or less, this may be for you. If you're LGBTQIA+, be aware that a side character is outed.
