Book 2 of a new LitRPG Adventure filled with time magic, three-dimensional characters, a crunchy LitRPG System, tactical combat, and power progression where level-ups are hard-earned and bring with them meaningful change in characters’ abilities.
Good story. Has pacing and constant info dump issues, over all enjoyable.
I'm enjoying the story and the second book was satisfying. The main issue with the author's writing is the constant exposé and information dump about the main characters and supporting cast. The game leveling Dynamics is interesting, however the author keeps interrupting the pace of the story to explain every single nuance. At times you read five pages of game leveling, three pages of plot line movement, followed by another five pages of game leveling information. This happens at any time in the story, all the time. It kills the pacing of the story even during more action sequences like a battle, where the main character will have inner dialogue thoughts on game leveling...it completely ruins the immersion of the story at that moment. I enjoy a complex game leveling dynamic story, but you have to leave room for the story! All said and done I'm still enjoying it, however it makes a fun read a little more tedious unnecessarily. I hope the third book moves the plot line along much further, because I find the main character story interesting.
It was a slow process for me, but I have become engaged with Arlan and his team. At times the author provides more system information than is needed, especially when each spell is detailed in its every use during a battle. I find myself skimming quickly through these sections to get to something happening. But overall the series has me interested in reading onward.
The first book was terrible when it came to emotional communication from the MC. This had him connect to his companions a lot better and that makes the book better.
