Daniel & Addison: Possessive

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author Willow Winters comes an emotionally gripping, standalone, contemporary romance.

It was never love with Daniel and I never thought it would be.
It was only lust from a distance.
Unrequited love maybe.

He’s a man I could never have, for so many reasons.
That didn’t stop my heart from beating wildly when his eyes pierced through me.
It only slowed back down when he’d look away, making me feel so damn unworthy and reminding me that he would never be mine.

Years have passed and one look at him brings it all back.
But time changes everything.
There’s a heat in his eyes I recognize from so long ago, a tension between us I thought was one-sided.

“Tell me you want it.” His rough voice cuts through the night and I can’t resist.
That’s where my story really begins.

Possessive is an emotional, gripping story. Filled with heartache, guilt and longing! Possessive will take you on a journey of obsession and jealousy...it's emotional, raw and captivating. - Beyond The Covers Blog

Willow started writing after having her little girl, Evie, December 2015. All during her pregnancy with Evie she continued to read and she only wanted to read romance. She was reading a book a day — sometimes two.

In January 2016 Willow was staying up late with Evie and just thinking of all these stories. They came to her constantly so she finally sat down and just started writing. She always wanted to do it so she figured, why not? Today Willow cannot be happier for making that decision!

How would you feel if you came face to face with your soulmate, only to realize they couldn’t be yours? What lengths would you go to to stay close? The theme of this book could be called a beautiful sadness. Denying your soul, trying to do the right thing, is it worth it? Addison carries this deep sadness inside of her but I found that only drew me to her more. Her sadness made her beautiful. Both are lost without the other and yet each is a current going the opposite direction. Fighting against each other but needing desperately to align. I got in a good couple of ugly cries reading this. I felt like screaming at their pushing each other away and swooning over not only Daniel but Tyler as well. Daniel made my heart cry and want to hold him. The intimate scenes are perhaps the hottest, most emotionally charged ones Willow has ever written. This book was a true emotional roller coaster that I couldn’t put down. The characters captured me from the first page and ensnared me in their shared grief. Captivating. Emotional. Beautiful. Intriguing. Sexy. Sorrowful. Hopeful. I’m left feeling drained and in need of an emotional support pet now.

description~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~
First, I want to say I had NO idea this book had I'll take cheating over that any day of the week...sigh. That said, I wasn't bothered by that as much as I usually am. I'm attributing that to this author's amazing storytelling ability. The writing was fantastic. The pace was perfect. The plot was engaging and had me hooked from the first page. It was a fairly quick read clocking in at just two and half hours. It was also dual POV, which I always prefer in my books. We also jump back and forth in time. Something that I am usually not a huge fan of but the author did a good job of giving us glimpses into the past without out distracting from the present portion of the story. Last, it was wrapped up on a decent HAPPY FOR NOW ending. This book looks to be the kickoff for a series featuring the CROSS brothers so I am sure we will see this couple again in future books.

~HERO~
DANIEL...I liked him quite a lot. He had the whole tortured bada$$ thing down to a science. But he was also sweet and vulnerable. Especially when it came to Addison.

~HEROINE~
ADDISON...I liked her character just as much as Daniel's. My heart broke for her many times while reading this one. She was sweet. She was vulnerable. I thought she held her own with Daniel. I was maybe a little iffy on her behavior in the past in regard to Tyler. It was a little hard not to feel like she was a bit of a b!tch for leading him on. But our past often shapes our actions, so I tried to cut her some slack.

description

~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
There were really no secondary characters of mention in this one. We hear from and see a bit of Daniel's brothers both in the present and in the past. The last chapter is from Carter (Daniel's brother) and it sets up his book that is coming up next in May (I believe).

~HEAT LEVEL~
Medium. The sex scenes in this one were suitably hot, and the frequency felt organic to the story.

~ANGST LEVEL~
Medium. This one felt more emotional than angsty to me. There was a lot of sadness, secrets, and shared pain and tragedy between the main couple. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, this did have Surprisingly none of that bothered me AT ALL. There was also no OW or OM drama and basically no mention of past sex lives.

~IN THE END~
I pretty much LOVED this one. That surprised me because I think anyone who follows my reviews knows how much I hate that type of story setup. But like I said, this author knows how to weave a tale. And weave an amazing one she did. The writing was great. The characters had depth. The plot was heartbreaking and hopeful. Therefore yours truly is going to give this one two HUGE thumbs up and I will try to wait ever so patiently for the next book in the series.description

I came upon Possessive serendipitously. That is, through a casual conversation between two authors, Willow and I got on the subject of new books, and I asked if I could read whatever it was that she was currently working on. I received an early copy of Possessive a few minutes later, and I didn’t stop the book until I was finished. Just to contextualize that, I’m in the middle of writing 2 books of my own, and I put that business on hold to finish this tremendously engaging read from Willow.

Possessive tells the story of Addison and Daniel, two characters with a past that very much informs their futures. Their backstory is complex, intricate, and full of the type of emotion that glues the rest of the book together. To carefully avoid spoilers and revealing too much of the plot, let me just say that this book is intriguing from cover to cover, and never ceased to keep my attention throughout. It’s a careful and masterful blend of emotions and styles, ranging from extremely sexy, to suspenseful, to highly emotional, all glued together with an intense connection between the two main characters.

As a reader and an author, I give this the highest recommendation that I can, and I’m intrigued to read the next one!

This was just an ok read for me. I had trouble fully connecting to the characters and I can’t put my finger on exactly why? I’m hoping if I give myself time to think about it, it might come to me!

There are brothers of the hero so there will be other books.. the storyline is intriguing enough that I’d be willing to pick up the next instalment; but if I end up having trouble connecting a second time, I would probably give up then.

The positive aspect to this read was the sex! Holy smoly was it intense! I have no complaints in that department! I felt their bedroom moments down to my soul! Lol!

Be prepared, because this is not an easy read. Not because it's a bad book but because you will live it. Willow Winters writes in a way that transports you into her story. You feel every nuance of emotion that each page holds. Daniel and Addison's story is full of love and lust. Tragedy and triumph. Full of wrongs done and wrongs forgiven. But can the past truly be put behind them when it is filled with so much pain.

"Holy fucking shit!! Willow Winters has really done it this time. Possessive is an emotional ride that will leave you begging for more. I'm not kidding folks. I seriously want the next book right damn NOW!" I'm not sure I can do this review justice because I'm stunned speechless.

Ok, not quite. LOL

Here's what you need to know:
There are twists and turns. The story is unique. It's sexy and entertaining! I had no idea what to expect and the anticipation had my heart pounding! I flipped through the pages so fracking fast!

I'll refrain from giving the full breakdown and just say that Addison and Daniel's story is soooooo good! I loved getting to know them and seeing how they came together. It's a fast-paced scorcher that's sure to thrill. Grab this one ASAP and expect to be WOWED!

The characters and story grabbed hold of me and won't let go. I'm in hangover hell! Willow Winters truly stuns in this new series opener and I'm counting down the days until the next book releases.

Highly Recommended!

I really wonder what it would be like to be in love with two men at the same time. Okay, not really, but I do think it's an interesting concept. And for those two men to be brothers is just icing on the drama cake. Throughout this story, I kept asking myself how I would handle loving two men and not being with the one I'm most passionate about.

I found myself quite absorbed by the tragedy that laid the foundation for this story and how it affected Daniel and Addison in such different and yet similar ways. However, I felt like I was missing a chunk of the story. It was similar to seeing things through a fog, where the picture isn't quite clear. So while I enjoyed this story and started to feel deeply for its characters, I couldn't take the plunge because it felt incomplete. I'm not sure how I could receive so many details and yet not enough. Overall, it was intense, dramatic and entertaining. The hero has brothers and it appears that this story will continue in some way, so that's definitely something to look forward to!

And I hate it. I hate Daniel even more for making it all come back. And if I can find that asshole I’m going to tell him exactly how he makes me feel. Not just the way he made me feel the other night, but also the way I felt all those years ago. Part of me wants to run. But I already did that. I can’t keep running forever.

description

“Are you going to run off again?” I ask as he only stares back at me. “Do you want me to?” he asks me in return. “No,” I answer instantly and a little too loud. As if what he’d said was a threat. I’m quieter as I add, “I don’t want you to go.” The desperation in my voice is markedly apparent. “Well what do you want then?” he asks me and I know the answer. I want him. I take in a breath slowly, knowing the truth but also knowing I’d never confess it. “I haven’t been able to sleep since the other night,” I confess and my gaze flickers from the glass to his eyes. My nail taps on the glass again and again and the small tinkling persuades me to continue. “I had a rough time for a while, but I was doing really well until I saw you.” I don’t glance up to see how he reacts; I’m merely grateful the words are finally coming to me. “When you didn’t even bother to look at me, much less talk to me …” I swallow thickly and then throw back more of the beer.

description

To summarize the book… Addison used to date Tyler, Daniels little brother but always had feelings for Daniel.
Daniel also had feelings for his brother’s girlfriend but didn’t do anything about it because she was only 17 and he was 20 or 21.. so he just proceeded to make her feel “unworthy” (Addisons words). So here is the thing, the entire world knew how Addison and Daniel felt for each other except for both of them and Tyler. . And that’s about it.

This review is hard to write because it's almost like I've read a different story than everybody else.

It felt a lot like watching an episode of a TV show without knowing what's actually going on. There were a few times when I wanted to give up reading, foremost in the first half of the book, but I was stubborn enough to pull through.

It got only slightly better in the second half of the book but I did like the chapters of the past because they gave me at least some kind of story, emotions and just something to understand. The rest felt like a dream where I couldn't see anything else than thick fog. The pace was really slow, like only a few couple of really long and drawn out days.

And just when it started to get interesting did I notice that it was only leading up to the next book that's coming soon in this series. Maybe it will be better in the next because we now already know something from this book.

The Story:
Addison accidentally stumbles over Daniel years later after what had happened and both were surprised to see each other. She just wants to feel at home somewhere and after visiting so many places, she’s finally looking into settling down. But then she unexpectedly sees him again and is taken aback by his unfriendly reaction. It took her so long to get better and he ruined it. Now she can’t stop thinking about him and about what happened. She has to tell him how she feels or she won’t be able to keep her dark thoughts at bay.
He’s bad for her and both know it, but desire is not something that’s easily dismissed and it doesn’t take long for the passion to break through.

Thoughts:
It took me forever to get into the story because I was not much a fan of the characters and the rather slow process of the story. I came to like Tyler though later on in the chapters of the past.

The obsession of Addison and Daniel was a mystery to me because yeah maybe he wanted to get her naked and she wanted him already years ago, but their behavior was still really strange. I couldn’t warm up to them and struggled to get through the story because I just couldn't get a picture of what was going on. The characters felt off and I couldn't stop wondering if Daniel had a split personality.
The first half of the book was especially hard to get through but then, finally, about in the middle of the story, feelings run high and it got a little bit better but I still did not understand why the characters acted so strange. She was obsessed with him despite his animosity and he was a total stalker and creeper. I was missing depth, more details and background information in this story.

The blurb didn't give much away or else I probably wouldn't have read this book. I've read two books so far by this author and both were completely different from each other as were my ratings. So anyway, I wanted to give it another go with this book but I can only say that I wish I saw and felt what other readers did in this book but sadly it turned out to be just not it for me.

First I want to say I LOVE the cover of this book! Wasn't as dark as I expected after reading the blurb, but I think it is a great story. Lust, forbidden love, wanting what isn't yours. Possessive has all the feels! Willow kept me guessing which direction things were going. Addison reminded me a lot of my younger self, I felt like she was easy to connect with. Daniel was quiet and guarded, just my type of guy! I wanted to know their story, I couldn't put it down. I was hopeful throughout the book that Addison and Daniel would get their happy ending.

Anyone who knows me knows that the enemies to lovers trope is my jam. I absolutely love the tension, the fiery banter and the explosive AF chemistry. Possessive had all of these things and more but with a dash of the taboo. Daniel and Addison were sexy, damaged, unpredictable and so hot. There was alot of pain between them but when they got together - it was pure Fireworks! I could not get enough!

Without giving away and spoilers, this story was legit crazysexy. Yes, THAT adjective fits it to a tee. Their relationship was filled to the brim with secrets and turmoil over a years-old unwanted longing between them. But what happens when Daniel lets his long-suppresed desires out and takes the girl he's always wanted?

This story was fantastic. It was intense and borderline destructive but when the opportunity strikes, Daniel decides to finally make Addison his. I thought their chemistry was fiery and explosive and while the numerous flashback scenes were a nerve wracking (as I was never sure what secret would come to light next) this was a consuming and addicting read. Daniel was hot, sexy and aggressive AF and I could not stop reading. And his and Addison's feelings combined with their painful and chaotic history -holy cauldron of turmoil Batman!! All in all this was great and I look forward to Depraved and Carter's book! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

MY THOUGHTS:
I am a HUGE fan of Willow Winters so it really pains me to say I didn’t enjoy this book. It didn’t have enough substance for me. Both main characters weren’t intriguing enough and I found myself skipping through pages bored with the story. Too predictable and too pretentious to keep my attention. This would have been more emotional for me if I had connected more personally with the characters, which is unusual for Willow’s books so I left with the conclusion “You win some. You lose some.”

The story constantly switches from past to present which was crucial element in fully understanding the backstories of the characters and was well written so the story still flowed smoothly throughout the shifts. The hot sex scenes are what bumped my rating from a 2-3 but I wanted more chemistry, more emotion… just more!

MY RATINGS:
(All ratings are out of 5)
BLUSH RATING: 3
ROMANCE RATING: 2
PLOT RATING: 2
OVERALL: 3

description

Narrated by: Colin O’Connor & CJ Bloom
Length: 5h 30mins

This is a quick listen only running just over 5 hours. Both narrators are new for me so I was interested to hear their performance. Colin and CJ were both well matched to their characters and their impressions were on par with the content.

CJ’s female narration was easy to listen, reading a just the right speed. Her male portrayal however was too scratchy.

Colin has that low sexy dominate alpha male base tone that makes your knees shake when he raises his voice. I really enjoyed his narration.

Female narrator matched to character: 4/5

I just don't care what happens.

This did not interest me AT ALL. Don't even care what happened before, don't care what happens next.

I don't know whether it was the writing.. or the plot.. or how the story is being told.. or the pace of it.. or just whatever.

I just didn't connect with this book.

Possessive by Willow Winters is the story of Daniel Cross and Addison Fawn.

Addison lived through the foster care system but while attending a high school she meet Tyler Cross. Addison never felt wanted but Tyler made her feel that way and then when she met his father and brothers they seem to like her too....except Daniel. Daniel just watched her all the time. Addison did feel an attraction for Daniel..more so than Tyler. But she was 17 and dating Tyler but then after several months she did break it off with Tyler only to have him get killed in an accident. Addison up and left town only to return to the area years later and run right into Daniel again.

They both were shook up by seeing each other but they each had stuff they needed to get off their chest...which lead them to start having a physical relationship.

But can they get past the death of Tyler?

I did enjoy this book and would be interested in reading more from Ms. Winters.

ℙ𝕠𝕤𝕤𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕧𝕖 by Willow Winters is a fast paced, mysterious, and suspenseful read. Once you start this story, it pulls you in. I believe this is actually my first book from Willow Winters and I will definitely be reading more. The writing style was engaging and left me unable to put down without knowing how it would end.

I went into this not knowing what to expect. The story is told from both Daniel and Addison’s perspective. Addison doesn’t know what she’s walking into when she walks into a small-town bar. The man she used to know and long for suddenly appears. The way the first meeting went down left me begging for more. Once I read that scene there was no way I was going to be able to not continue. This story is steamy but also tragic and forbidden.

Being my first read, I wasn’t familiar with the backstory of the characters and did feel that if I knew the history, I would have understood more. Still, I loved the book. it kept me hooked and at times I was so frustrated with Addison, but I enjoyed this, nonetheless.

I’m so interested in this Merciless world and want to keep going. As for Possessive, it’s a fast paced and enjoyable read with twists throughout. I loved how cocky Daniel was, especially in the bedroom. That scene! The steamy scenes alone make this read worth it. I am so curious to see what else WW can do in that department.

Damnnnnn was this good. This is also part of a whole universe with different series that I will be reading asap.

Addison was such a lovable heroine. I don’t know exactly what it was about her, but I liked her from the beginning. Daniel was fucking mysterious in a very asshole way. In the beginning he was so arrogant and rude, but towards the end we see his true self and he’s a softie. There’s no denying the fucking tension between the two of them from the first scene. I actually really liked the flashbacks with her and Tyler because it was nice to see the root of their relationship forming, along with the cute as hell one she already had.

Possessive by Willow Winters is the story of Daniel Cross and Addison Fawn. Addison lived through the foster care system but while attending a high school she met Tyler Cross. Addison never felt wanted but Tyler made sure to make her feel wanted and then when she met his father and brothers they seem to like her too.... except Daniel. Daniel and Addison have a heart breaking back story that will bring tears to your eyes so make sure to keep tissues handy. What would you do if you knew your soulmate was right in front of you but you couldn’t be with them, couldn’t have them in your life? What lengths would you go to to stay close? Trust me, this story will make sure you feel everything-- love and lust. tragedy and triumph. wrongs done and wrongs forgiven. Daniel and Addison's story is full of emotions that each page holds. I don’t want to give spoilers away so I will just say this is a story that you need to read , really read and just absorb Daniel and Addison’s love story. It is so powerful, so emotional, so epic that even after it is over, you will be left fighting the feelings the story leaves you with. Ms. Winters writes a truly epic love story , one that has stayed with me long after I read it. What a romantic and suspenseful read, one that is hard to put down.

I feel like every time I read her next new book it gets better every time. And this book pulled me right in.

I loved all the emotions that this book provoked in me, like my heart was in my mouth. And I loved the way it's written, it changes between past and present and has various POVs. The angst, mystery, forbidden love, emotions, bad boy, strong woman and all tied with a good plot. And it's sexy as hell!

The only thing that stopped me from rating it with five stars is the ending, where I feel like they got a bit lost in the whole story. It feels unfinished. It ends with Carter's POV that continues in the next book Merciless. And I wanted just a bit more of Addison and Daniel.

Spoiler-ish!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with this book per se however did the blurb imply that the heroine was with the Hero's brother? Noooooooooo of course bloody not.

Even though the Hero's brother died to some tragic incident this book was drenched in guilt, self-blame and suffering I cannot pick out one happy moment or thing is this book.

But Ms. Winters is good at portraying emotions but there is no balance to the emotions of these two.

I stopped reading at page 187 of 286.

Willow Winters is an author who seems to grab me with every book she releases, each one begging to be read. They promise the dark romances I favour, the gritty storylines that keep you hooked. Despite having quite a few Willow Winters reads on my Kindle, it was only recently that I popped my Willow Winters cherry through reading She Asked For It. I adored it, and was left wanting more.

Fortunately, upon finishing She Asked For It, we’re made aware of a connected story – Possessive. In She Asked For It, we are introduced to Daniel and I was so excited for his story. Despite his appearance in She Asked For It, I had no idea what to expect from this one. Daniel was a fun character but there was such an aura of mystery around his character that I was clueless as to what I would be receiving with Possessive.

For those of you who have not read She Asked For It, do not feel as though you need to go and read it to enjoy this one. There are a couple of comments made to the events and characters, but it is not a case of needing to read one to understand the other. That being said, I would certainly recommend giving She Asked For It a read – it’s such a powerful book, one that is more than worth grabbing.

With Possessive, we’re thrown straight into Daniel’s story. We finally get the details of his life, his past, and all the darkness that surrounds him. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as I enjoyed She Asked For It, but it was a fun read. I think the reason I preferred She Asked For It is because Possessive was a slower read – it took a while before we’re completely sucked into the darker elements of this story, before we get all of the details, and while I loved the build-up I feel as though it did not hit as hard as the truth bombs that hit us in She Asked For It. I shouldn’t compare the two books, though, as they’re both wonderful within their own right.

Although it is a bit slow at first, the book does keep you turning pages. The story is gripping, slowly feeding you the information. There was a lot more build throughout this book than I’d expected, more elements were introduced than I’d originally anticipated, and I enjoyed the way so much was introduced in the later part of the book. Add in great characters and wonderful chemistry, and you know the romance side has you hooked as well.

My main issue, however, was with the ending of this one. Not that I disliked the ending – I loved it – it’s more so the fact I wasn’t forewarned of what was to come. You see, Possessive was advertised as a standalone novel. The romance does have a start and an end to the story, yet there are plenty of things left open. There are plenty of details that still need to be explained – and this is because it is connected to the upcoming story we are to receive for Carter. I love that we’re to get a story for Carter, I was hoping for more of his character, but I wish I’d been informed in advance that some details would be left open and would not be answered until the next book. I just wish it had come with a warning is all, as I was hoping everything would be cleared up in this one.

Despite this fact, however, I am super excited to dive into Carter’s story. Not only am I interested in getting the details to fill in the blanks relating to events in this one, but I’m also really excited to see how Carter’s story plays out. There’s such promise for how Carter’s tale will unfold, and I’m so eager to dive in.
