Rage #1

Rage Unleashed

Rate this book
Damian was getting careless.
He purposefully lingered in Sasha’s apartment, sniffing his underwear, making sure his scent bled into the fabric. He’ll die if he couldn't have him. Have this. His sweet omega.
Professor Sasha Petrovitch wasn’t meant to be coddled; he’s meant to be wrecked.
Eviscerated.
Damian could do that. If only Sasha hadn’t rejected him. If only Sasha behaved like a proper omega and submitted to him fully then this wouldn’t be happening.
There were rules against this type of thing. Treaties. Laws and regulations against alpha’s overstepping their boundaries.
As pack leader of the Barbaric Prowlers, Damian has broken them all.
He couldn't help himself. Words failed him once he invaded Sasha’s space. That scent. Jasmine. It drove him mad. Damian wanted to smash him open. Pull him apart as a wolf does to sheep. He's half-possessed.
Deranged.
This maddening infatuation has destroyed him.
And the worst part was, Damian let it.

Warning: violent thoughts, violence, gore, dubious consent, stalking, werewolf shifter fantasy, HFN & soft cliffhanger ending.

I am a passionate storyteller, with a love for literature that runs deep in my veins. I enjoy weaving elements of the artistic and unconventional into my tales, which I tell both during the day and at night. My ideal Sunday is spent indulging in a steaming cup of coffee and immersing myself in the pages of the book I am currently captivated by. My all-time favorite movie is American Beauty, and I consider it a classic. My fondest memories are of the fort I built in my basement, which unfortunately had to be dismantled at the request of my mother. My favorite food is Cheetos Puffs, and while I understand the appeal of crunchy Cheetos, I prefer the texture of the puffs. I do not subscribe to the belief in a "Happily Ever After" ending, but I am open to the possibility if circumstances permit.

So I’m reading this book and it’s so slow. Circular events, plot not moving forward and then, suddenly, it hits me! T R I L O G Y !

You know that thing where an author has enough plot for one decent length book, maybe two, at best! But they’ve got dollar signs in their eyes. Why write one good, well paced engaging book when I can spread this razor thin plot over three books, maybe more.... Cha-ching! Well that’s what’s happening. If you can bear the crawling pace as the same rinse, repeat events go on for ages this is the book for you. If you actually like well paced books give it a miss.

Also, side note, it needs an edit or something because the blurb , and first two chapters, paint Damian as a barely contained rage machine but then he’s a teddy bear, Michelin chef, popular boy next door and genius marine biologist in waiting (Marty Stu, anyone?). I get the title, rage unleashed except it’s sort of rage unleashed, rage non-existent, then rage unleashed. It’s jarring!

What an outstanding read
I don’t know where to begin with this book because I thought I know what the story line was gonna be let me tell you right now this book kept me guessing throughout. I did not know what was going to come next.
Damian is a complexed character he is the alpha, a Wolf shifter and he knew as soon as he saw Sasha that he was he’s fated mate. But it didn’t seem like Sasha was happy to be his Omega. Sasha would do anything to reject him but Damian had put his claim on him and unless he denied their bond they would always be together.
Sasha hated his life when he was younger his mother tried to kill him putting a curse on him only for his father to find him and save him and then put another curse on him. One he could never speak of. Sacha escaped his life and kept on the run so nothing would come of the curse. That was until he joined a pack and met Damian. He knew he was his mate but he had to do everything in his power to make Damien hate him. But Damian was persistent and didn’t give up and then everything started to go wrong nearly ending up with Damien being killed. Sasha knew he had to leave but once again Damian got involved and demanded that he not leave and Sasha knew he couldn’t disobey alpha.
That’s all I’m gonna tell you because things start to go horribly wrong with different kinds of beings appearing. Putting everybody’s life in danger. But the biggest shock came later when we get some truths about Damian‘s father what a brilliant read! You will not be able to put this book down and I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I really hope we don’t have a long wait you’ll understand when you get to the end of the book.

JK Jones is one of my absolute favorite authors. They write amazing dark stories and Rage Unleashed is one of them. I love the "love" triangle or should I say one of them is a forced relationship, which is one of my favorite tropes. The plot had me guessing. I was riveted by the mystery and the wonderful world building. I can't wait for the next book on Sasha and Damian.

I was very enticed by the description of this book but unfortunately it never managed to click with me. I did think the story was interesting and offered some very surprising twists. As for the characters it was kind of a split decision. I liked Damian, wasn't really enthused with Sasha and there were a few others that I just hated. I enjoyed the intensity and darkness but wasn't a fan one of the big twists. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Would I read it again? No.
Would I read the sequel? Yes, god help me.

Huh. Well, this is a hard book to rate. Quite honestly, it’s a hot mess, but… On the one hand, the story made me feel like I was concussed or on something most of the time (it was that all over the place). On the other hand it had some cool ideas.

This book is a dark romance modern omegaverse retelling of Snow White. That makes it confusing for me that the part where Snow White is believed dead

Sasha is a white cis 30 year old omega who is a graduate professor of marine biology. He’s a strict, inflexible, not very good professor. He’s described as very slender with bony hands and a bubble butt, with very pale skin, black hair and dark eyes, and red lips (like Snow White). He’s somehow 30, allosexual, and has never kissed or had sex with anyone. That can be perfectly normal, but it seems odd with his character.

Damian is a white cis 25 year old alpha in a marine biology graduate program. He saw Sasha the first time and became obsessed. He had a lot of thoughts about kidnapping, having sex with, breaking, raping, and taking care of Sasha. He has some darker fantasies and some nicer ones.

The Good:
—The story itself can be a bit dark/intense and engaging. This offsets the writing, which is not great.
—Turning the idea of the “chosen one” on its head
—Fun idea with the wolf pack and Sasha’s background.
—Somehow I had fun with a not-quite love triangle …or love square? Basically Damian, Antonio, and Luciano all were in love with Sasha (Luciano even proposed to him before Damien did).
—The sex and sexual tension were hot.
—Both MCs are nuts. This is good because I wouldn’t want either of them inflicted on a nice person (like Sasha and Luciano, the latter who is sweet and the former who is a jerk).
—queernormative world (Luciano, Sasha, Antonio, Damian, and Damian’s sister are all openly queer, and his sister Estella has a preference for human girls rather than supernatural ones).
—I liked that the sex they had without Damien’s penis going in Sasha’s ass was actually considered sex. So often that’s not the case, which is incorrect.

The Not So Good:
—MANY typos.
—The wrong words were used often (steal instead of steel, wearily instead of warily, bar instead of barn, blood-stained instead the adjective instead of blood stained the verb, etc.).
—Profound lack of consistency on many plot points.
—Very unclear scenes and dialogues, to the point I’m not sure about almost anything.
—The author contradicted herself from one paragraph (or even sentence) to the next pretty frequently.
—Information bombs dropped indiscriminately all over the book. And they weren’t clear.
—The timeline explanations were baffling and didn’t line up half the time. Or if they did it was explained in a very unclear manner.
—Quite a lot of hyperbole.
—It also has two or more unrelated main ideas per paragraph sometimes, and I got whiplash when that happened.
—A lot of common phrases were repeatedly used wrong or written wrong.
—The “twist” at the very end was supposed to be dramatic but I LOLed. WTF kind of ending scene is that?
MAJOR SPOILER

The ?????? (Some of it, anyway):

—Lol, the warnings in this book include “large age gap,” but Sasha is 30 and Damian is 25!
“Sasha was nothing. Old and dirty. He was five years Damian’s senior. It’s sick. Wrong.”
WTF? Five years isn’t really an “age gap” between 25 and 30. It also keeps talking about a 6 foot guy dwarfing everyone and how everyone else is tall but 6 feet dwarfs them. What?
—“her crescent moon eyes” What the heck kind of eye shape is that?
—“Meaty hooks” was used three times in the first 70 pages. What?
—“White heat” was used literally 7 times, often to describe Sasha’s anus.
—“Luciano’s face looked like it was drained of color. ” What do you mean “looked like?” As in it might not have been? Does he not know what his BFF looks like?
—“Sasha cried desperately for help, but he was lifted, his legs swept from under him, and stuffed inside a van. Sasha’s lungs filled with water as he struggled, but the rope cinched tighter and tighter, making it impossible to break.”
Filled with water? From where? They’re on dry land in a dry van?

Content Warnings:
—Professor engaged to and has sex with a current graduate student.
—Dubcon
—Noncon
—Violent fantasies
—Behavior that would be considered abusive
—Sexual fantasies including harming a partner, or being harmed by a partner.
—Extreme sexual fantasies and dialogue, along the lines of “I’ll fuck you open until you’re gaping. My cocksleeve.” Some of this is wanted, and some is unwanted.
—Parental abuse.
—Lots of possessiveness, lots of the “mine, claim” stuff, lots of jealousy especially on Damian’s part.
—Some non-official D/S elements (Sasha likes fighting and losing and being pinned down, Damian likes topping him in all ways possible, etc.)
—Kidnapping
—Moments of graphic violence

Tropes
—Virgin MC (Sasha), and sexually experienced MC (Damian)
—Jealousy/possessiveness
—Many suitors (Damian, Antonio, and Luciano all want Sasha; it’s mentioned Luciano even proposed to him and was turned down)
—Size difference (Sasha is very skinny, Damian is very muscular)
—Fated mates
—Werewolves, witches, vampires, fae
—Fuck or die / mate or die
—Mpreg implied but does not occur in the book
—Omegaverse (slick, heats, ruts, knotting)
—Family drama (surprise parentage, evil half siblings, sibling rivalry, cursed/evil parents)
—Explicit sexual scenes (anal sex, intercrural sex, oral sex, fingering, frottage)
—Mating bonds
—Forced mating bonds (not between MCs)

Other:
—Strict sexual roles (Sasha bottoms and is more submissive; Damian tops and is more dominant).
—Ages: Sasha is 30 and Damian is 25.
—No cheating, but Sasha is forcibly kissed and groped by another man, and possibly was raped by him (the book says he was, and also says he was not… it’s unclear).
—Dual 3rd person POV.
—No 3rd act breakup.
—Ends on a cliffhanger.
—Two person romance (no poly)

Damian is alpha of the Barbaric Prowlers a wolf shifter clan. Sasha is a professor and member of the Night Crawlers clan. Damian is crazy about Sasha, but Sasha act indifferent towards Damian. This is kind of funny considering Damian try’s so hard to win Sasha over. Deep down Sasha really likes Damian. This in based in a supernatural/human world where everyone usually gets along. Suddenly most of their Allie’s start attacking them for the key to the Flame Throne which is in Fae territory. This book is full of drama, adventure, lies and riddles that need to be sorted out. A total page turner until the end. Can’t wait for the next book in series.

Adorable!
Damian and Sasha are so cute together! Their banter about the date and the will/won’t ending with Damian getting bonked with a binder. They’re quite cute when they let themselves relax a little more, but they’re also kind of ignoring the larger situation happening around them. I loved that. SO refreshing. This is by far the most interesting shifter book I’ve ever read. Equal parts dark and mushy. Very loving. I’m anxious for the next book!

This was a truly remarkable piece of writing.
Despite the fact that I assumed I knew the storyline going in, this book kept me guessing right up until the very end. I had no idea what would happen next.
Damian is a multifaceted character; he is the pack's alpha, a Wolf shifter, and he recognized Sasha as his destined mate the moment they laid eyes on each other. In spite of this, Sasha didn't appear to be pleased to be his Omega. If Sasha didn't accept Damian's claim on her, they'd always be together. Sasha would do anything to get away from him.
His mother tried to kill him when he was young, placing a curse on him; his father found him and saved him and then placed a second curse on his head. Sasha had no love for his life. Inseparable from him. To avoid the curse, Sacha escaped from his life and kept running. As it turned out, Damian saved his life when he joined a pack and met him. When Damien found out he was his partner in crime, Damien was determined to make him hate him. Damian, on the other hand, was tenacious and refused to give up, and as a result, things went horribly wrong and he was almost killed. Sasha was certain he had to leave, but Damian intervened and insisted he stay, and Sasha was well aware that he could not disobey the alpha.
That's all I can tell you, because things start to go terribly wrong with the appearance of different kinds of beings. A risk to everyone's life. Even more shocking was the revelation that Damian's father was not who he seemed to be at first. That being said, I am eagerly anticipating the release of the next installment in the series. I'm crossing my fingers that the wait won't be too long, and that you'll understand this when you reach the conclusion of the book.

This book.... It seems like this book wasn't edited properly because a lot of things were repeated. The plot was slow paced and a bit clunky. There are good points in it, like why Sasha can't just say what's going on. Overall I'm going to finish the series because I'm interested to see how it turns out, but it's a journey already marked with frustration.

Wow. Killer read.
I’m obsessed. Totally and completely with this couple. I think the author detailed out Damian’s thoughts and feelings very well, though. I think he came off pretty clear as a character as for motivations and desires. As the story progressed, though, and we get past the halfway point, it’s clear that these sorts of violent urges come from Damian’s true nature that had been hidden from him this whole time. I thought that was an interesting way to tie that in and foreshadow what was to come! With Sasha, I thought his character was wonderfully complex. The whole story, with the worldbuilding of the curse, tied together nicely. It was interesting to see Sasha push Damian away in fear of what would happen, but then ultimately, they can’t ignore the bond between them. I’m such a sucker for that sort of “fated” love story, so I really enjoyed this. I think both of their character arcs were clear and easy to follow but also felt very unique. I really can’t wait for the next one!

Okay, so this is the second author whose book I have listened to as an audiobook, and I have to say that even with all the voice changes, I definitely enjoyed this one a bit more. Like between my daily commute and listening while doing chores, I finished this book way faster than the other ones I listened to (multi-book series by the same author).

Anyways, Sasha and Damian gave me such frustration with their we like each other, but let's throw in some angsty razzle dazzle. Some of it was justified, while the rest of it was more like, "We could have done without that. Totally did not add to the story, but okay."

There is a plot. There is world-building. There is spice. And, of course, there are plot twists galore. Like telenovela types of plot twists.

Needless to say, I will be listening to (or reading) Book 2 because this book definitely ended on a cliffhanger and a hilarious one at that.

Favorite Scene:

The "chair" scene. And that's all I am going to say about it.

“He would have Sasha.
Willing or unwilling.
No matter the cost.”

What the what just happened? This book is fast-paced, unpredictable—my head is still spinning—and my kind of dark. Parts of it confused me and I’m still not sure I fully understand all the things with Damian and Sasha but it grabbed me and had me reading to the end. If you’re looking for mysterious and paranormal machinations, dark fantasies, and tons of heat, this is the book for you. But heed the blurb and be prepared as the ending will have you howling for more.

This is a very intense story that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. At first, its not clear what the reason is for Sasha's attitude towards Damian but you eventually do get to see that everything isn't as it seems. And I do mean everything. By the end of this book, things are brought to light but still not settled. Be aware that this book does end in a cliffhanger but I can't wait for the next book to continue the story.

I really enjoyed this book. The approach to the shifter world storyline I though was quite unique. I do prefer the build up like you get in this story but I didn’t find it too slow. It was also refreshing having the grump as the omega rather than the alpha. I quite enjoyed their push pull at the beginning, but there is reason behind that.

Sasha and Damian have great chemistry. I love the word of shifters and fae and all the demonic world beyond that. A great storyline, really engaging and that cliffhanger has me wanting more. Loved it.

Amazing.
Quite honestly, the author’s plot flowed very, very nicely! I don’t remember a time when I wanted to put the book down. It didn’t feel like there were too many explicit scenes back-to-back but it also didn’t feel like they were too far between for the sake of the plotline. There were a few chapter breaks that felt a smidge choppy to me, but nothing that would ultimately want me to put the book down. Overall, the pacing seemed spot-on to me!

Wow people apparently hated this, but I thought it was pretty good. Messed up and has a random weeb-esque cover, but pretty good. Also, omegaverse? Whatever.

Look, I'm always going to love a hero who responds to a (probably villain) info dump with, "excuse me, but that sounds like some b.s."

Oh crap a cliffhanger

This book is so good I’m surprise it doesn’t have more reviews. You go on a journey with Sasha and Damien. Just when you think you have it all figured out something else happens that blows you away. I need more.

Poor unfortunate soul.
Ah, Damian. The unfortunate wolf that keeps stumbling into his destiny. He’s not exactly sweet, but he is caring most of the time, and he doesn’t have any grand schemes for power, whether they would have good or negative effects. He just wants his mate to bake and care for his family. Even when he goes all rage-y, there’s something sad about it, about how he’s going to be treated for doing what is arguably the right thing and for what he literally can’t help. Loved this story. I really can’t wait for the next installment.
