I suppose if you have a passion for film (both historical and contemporary) this would be a great read. It's very in depth and helped me a lot in those first year film seminars where I hadn't actually watched the film.. Even so, it is quite interesting, but it is a text book which centres on specific films as opposed to the subject as a whole. However, those specific films are basically the key motion pictures which contributed to what we see in the cinema today, so it is quite informative in that respect and offers insight. 4* as it got me through my seminars.
