The feared witch Thalia Nox was fully aware that her marriage to Duke Hugo Penfield was nothing more than a pretty cage. Still, she much preferred an arranged marriage to the underground prison where she spent a millenia under strict control. The exchange was simple, all she would have to do is play the dutiful wife, behave and have more freedom than she ever did in lifetimes.
Her husband, the newly appointed Duke Hugo Penfield from the province of Galacia's Horn, wants to prove his ability as a leader after his father's sudden passing. The pair form an unlikely bond of mutual Hugo gains a powerful witch as an ally, while Thalia gains an unexpected peace.
Except, they were not supposed to like each other. In fact, it destroys the plot the nobility schemed in the first to use Thalia's power for their own gain.
This steamy novel features a cool-headed take charge heroine, a cinnamon roll hero, political machinations, and a dash of magic.
This book is....hm. Not what I expected. Perhaps "female led romance" has connotations I did not expect!
Ultimately this book wasn't for me. I enjoyed the romance, the setting, and the characters, but not the specific flavour of romance. At the risk of being overly blunt . If you're into that, you may find this book right up your alleyway! If not, then uh...not. And unfortunately(?) for me, I'm not.
Setting: Not bad. Fairly generic fantasy-ish, some monsters. An interesting like mixup with the gates? Ultimately this isn't a book that sells itself on the setting; it's just background. And it was a servicable background.
Characters: I liked them! I wouldn't say they were great; in many ways I liked the concept of the characters more than the actual reality the author delivered. The author clearly identified the right characters needed for a good story. Could they have been sold a bit better? ...yes.
Plot: Again, better in concept than execution, especially near the end where the author did the metaphorical equivalent of throwing their hands up and announcing "rocks fall, good guys win, everyone lives happily ever after".
Writing/editing: Average at best, but good enough. Let's go with "servicable".
Overall: If you're into a romance with Femdom BDSM vibes, decent characters, a cliche plot, and a setting that is just background, this may be the book for you!
Would I read more by Miko Sage? ...eh maybe, depends on the book. I'd want to see some hints it was more to my taste than this book.

Review: This book was decent. I enjoyed it, but it's not a particularly deep book. The plot makes very little sense, it feels almost like a fanfiction that got published.
It's a really good light read. It keeps you interested even if it's not deep thought provoking. It's good for when you just want a book to read and enjoy, not a book that you will become obsessed with and will question the world.
I really enjoyed the relationship dynamic, just because it's so rare in books, the smut was also very well written, which cannot be said about the rest of the book.
There were a lot of typos, but they were small and didn't typically affect the reader's understanding of the story. The plot was very made up on the spot. There were some things mentioned that were never mentioned again, this really confuses the reader.
I would recommend this book; even with its shortcomings, it was enjoyable.
Thoroughly loved the book and the relationship between the two characters - while "Female Led" might be underselling exactly how dominant the woman in the relationship becomes, it does not go to any real extremes or anything that would make most people uncomfortable (if you're here from Miko Sage's previous book, The Flower of Hades, it definitely does not reach the points of "female led" that book does)
That being said, I do think the book ends VERY a unsatisfying note - and by that I mean, it doesn't feel like it really ends as much as it simply...stops. I don't know if a continuation is planned or not, but it definitely feels like we stopped in the middle of a story that the author didn't know how to wrap up.
This is a good book. You shouldy read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. The book is a good read. i enjoyed it alot.. Download or buy it today. why not?
Bdsm should be done with respect.. don't get me wrong. I have a taste for older woman, young man trope.. but here she was so disrespectful to him. She didn't even try to find out if he was into this.. straight up started ordering him. Basically his mom but worse with a cunt.. I mean she inwardly thinks him as a pet. For some reason he is happy to oblige.. I will give an example " his secret illuminations" . There the FMC respected mmc so much .. she gave him space to come to terms with his tests. Not just bind him and fucks . Overall, it was so obviously above all she loved the guy . Here, it is evil.. I don't know it she will come to love and respect him.. but it doesn't look like it..
